Mahere resign as CCC MP, jumped before she was pushed. Madam, spare us the sauce. W Mukori

If anyone thought there was peace and quiet in the country’s main opposition party after Nelson Chamisa abandoned MDC A to form the new political party CCC, they were wrong. The period from the launch of CCC in January, 2022 to September 2023, marking the end of the 23 and 24 August 2023 harmonised national elections, was the calm before the storm. The storm has broken and all hell has broken loose.

One Sengezo Tshabangu fired the first volley to mark the start of the factional war by recalling a number of newly elected CCC officials, on the grounds they were no longer members of the party He had pushed the party’s self-destruct button and once the fighting has started there is no stopping it!

Nelson Chamisa has fought back claiming Tshabangu was an imposter recalling elected members on the grounds he was CCC’s Secretary General. Chamisa could not prove in a court of law that Tshabangu was an imposter no more than he could prove he was President of the party since CCC had no constitution, party structures nor democratically elected party officials.

Bolstered with his court and by-election victories on 9 December 2023, Tshabangu recalled more CCC elected officials.  As I said, once the self-destruct button has been pushed, there is no reset the fighting will go on until there is no one left standing.

On Thursday, Nelson Chamisa, thrown in the towel. He announced that he was no longer president of CCC. This is going to be a messy divorce!

All the CCC elected officials who had been spared the first and second wave of recalls and had hoped they can sit on the fence and let the whole messy business blow over. But now that Chamisa has resigned, everyone must pick one side or the other, there is no fence to sit on.

MP Fadzayi Mahere was one of the first to declare!

“Advocate Fadzayi Mahere, the Member of Parliament for Mount Pleasant, has resigned from parliament with immediate effect. She cited the assault on the will of the people and the bastardisation of the democratic process in Zimbabwe by Mr. Tshabangu and his associates, whom President Nelson Chamisa exposed in an exclusive interview with UK-based solicitor Brighton Mutebuka, as the reasons for her resignation,” proclaimed a posting on social media.

When faced with the grime choice of either to jump or be pushed, she chose to jump. What I find objectionable is the phoney pretence she jumped out of principle.

Advocate Fadzayi Mahere participated in the 2018 and 2023 elections, like everyone else who have contested in these elections, knowing fully weIl that whole election process was flawed and that participating would only give vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy. She ignored all this because she also knew that Zanu PF gives away a few gravy train seats to entice the opposition to participate. She could not resist the bribe!

“The (2013) electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility,” confessed David Coltart in his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe.

David Coltart is CCC Treasurer General and elected Mayor of Bulawayo. He is himself a veteran of participating in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy out of greed. Advocate Mahere is certainly not the only Zimbabwean politician for whom greed had the better of her.

“One of my first promises to you was to always be honest, transparent and accountable in my decisions,” wrote Advocate Mahere in her resignation.

“When the CCC was launched in January of 2022, it was with the shared understanding that this new movement would be underpinned by the core value of being citizen-centred. It would put the welfare and aspirations of constituents like you at the heart of all decision-making. Our goal was to build a new Zimbabwe based on a blueprint of dignity, prosperity and opportunity for everyone.”

Madam! Please get off your high horse and stop pontificating! There is nothing more insulting than a hypocrite wittering nonsense to hide their blatant betrayal and greed.

You took up your gravy train seat in parliament even after SADC, AU and even our own ZHRC had condemned the August 2023 elections a farce out of greed. You are now giving up the said seat because the factional war within CCC have left you with no choice.

Of course, it is nonsense to pretend you are resigning because you care about the people and good governance. You and your fellow politicians, on both sides of the political divide it must be said, do not care about freedom, justice, free elections, good governance and about the people. Do not care now and never did! So please spare us the sauce!!

Just because you are obsessed with your hatred of the Shona you think everyone else must be obsessed about something or other. Your hatred of the Shona is a cancer eating you alive!

  2. This is just nonsense being recycled to give it traction. SADC accepted the damning SEOM report but the regional body has clearly decided to do nothing about it. All this talk about SADC forcing Zimbabwe to hold fresh elections in June is just wishful thinking. Giving the chaos in CCC with all these recalls, etc. what would SADC expect to accomplish with fresh elections?

Accept the reality on the ground is the first step in solving our problem especially in a country where so many prefer to bury their heads in the sand rather than face the truth!

  4. If you think forming a political party is the solution, go ahead. Why are you insisting that I listen to you and form a party!

  5. He decided to exit the coalition party he formed only two years ago to “draw a line in the sand” after it was hijacked by the ruling ZANU-PF party.
“A break with the past is also a signal to the commencement of the future. We are saying enough is enough,” he said.
“What we are is a new approach, a new way, a fresh start,” he said without revealing a new party name.
“We are building a big church.”
Mnangagwa, 81, won a second term in office, beating Chamisa, 45, in an election for which international observers said the vote fell short of democratic standards and political tensions.

Nelson Chamisa and his MDC friends had the golden opportunity to implement the democratic reforms to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections once and once for all during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. They failed to implement even one token reform in five years. Ever since the GNU, MDC/CCC have participated in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy out of greed.

There is no denying that Zanu PF rigged the 2023. The important question is why did Chamisa and his CCC friends insist on participating in the flawed elections? Even after SADC, AU and Zimbabwe’s own ZHRC had condemned the election process as a farce, all the winning CCC candidates took up their gravy train seats, confirming they did not care the elections were rigged as long as they won the few gravy train on offer as bait.

Nelson Chamisa and company have proven beyond doubt that they are corrupt and breathtakingly incompetent; they failed to implement even one token reform in 23 years and have participated in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy out of greed. The formation of a new political party will not stop the rot given most of top leadership will be likely to be recycled deadwood.

“Yes, becoz you are always saying Zimbabwe is a failed state, how can a country fail, say Munangagwa and his cahoots /Buffoons including you you have failed. The reason for me and others to support Chamisa is that lets try to vote for him and see whether he is going to fail and if he fails we will do the same. Don’t ever blame someone who is trying to workout those making Zimbabwe a failed state as you wish. Work up Mukori and lets support those trying to remove these carcass from leading Zimbabwe for they have failed and failed us.Maybe tomorrow it will be you for with GOD you never. Ipapa uchanzwa woti 5yrs in the GNU and they did nothing iwe ungaita baba baba varipo here. Tarisa uone kwauri you are the worst failed man running away from his own country yet others were running away to go and fight to liberate their country.Ko iwe uri kuitei kushora vari kuda kusunungura nyika kubva kune vatadza ava. Work up.”

You clearly have something against all Zimbabweans who have left the country and you blame them for running away and causing all the country’s problems. You remained behind and so did millions of others. If you failed to stop the rot what exactly do you think those who left the country would have done differently.

There are Zimbabweans who have remained behind and have done nothing to stop the country going to the dogs, some who have done a lot, other who are indifferent and yet others who have contributed to the rot. Similarly there are Zimbabweans who have left the country and have played all the four roles. You should therefore judge everyone’s contribution on their track record and not whether he/she is in the country. But I know simple truths like that are hard to swallow especially for a simpleton desperate to make a mountain out of a molehill!

You want the whole nation to praise you because you never left Zimbabwe, this to you has become the mother of all virtues, regardless of the fact you have done fcuk all as far as I know!

Here is another simple reality you cannot get into your thick head! Chamisa and his MDC/CCC friends were elected into office for the primary purpose of implementing the necessary democratic reforms to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections. After 23 years including 5 in the GNU they have failed to implement even one token reform. Worse still, since the GNU they have participated in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy out of greed.

“Don’t ever blame someone who is trying to workout those making Zimbabwe a failed state as you wish,” you argue. You don’t know what the reforms are much less how they are implemented, even now with the benefit of hindsight you still have no clue. If you did know the reforms, etc. then you would KNOW too that they failed to implement the reforms because Mugabe bribed them and they are incompetent. After 23 years with nothing to show for it only a fool would still believe “they are trying!

Zimbabwe is a failed state because simpletons like you have the vote and in your foolishness you are the ones keeping the buffoons in power. Universal suffrage in a country with so many braindead voters is a curse and we are paying dearly for it.

Democracy works when the electorate is informed and diligent and with a naive and gullible one. So naive they believe someone who has failed to implement even one token reform in 23 years is still “trying” even with all the evidence they sold out!

  7. We, Zimbabweans are an ignorant, naive and gullible lot, so ignorant and naive we believe anything no questions asked? No wonder we are a failed nation and, unless we open our eyes and minds, we are doomed to remain a failed nation.

Nelson Chamisa and his CCC friends dragged the nation into the 2023 elections knowing fully well the process was falwed and participating would give Zanu PF legitimacy. They knew all this and participated regardless out of greed. Now with nation stuck with this illegitimate Zanu PF regime they are walking away without even a word of apology. Indeed they even have the cheek to pretend they did us a great favour participating and now walking away!

"Change is coming!" You bet! Chamisa and company MUST account for selling out!

We all know where you coming from; you have your Boxer the horse in Animal Farm mentality of “Napoleon (Chamisa) is always right!” and any one who dares to question Chamisa is a fool. And since you have failed to silence me by answering my challenge to name one democratic reform MDC/CCC have implemented in 23 years, including 5 in the GNU. You have had to resort to your howling monkey tactic.

Zimbabwe is a failed state and one of the reasons why this is so is because MDC/CCC have failed to implement the necessary reforms to stop Zanu PF rigging elections. This is a serious problem which the nation cannot afford to sweep under the carpet. It is a great pity that instead of the nation focusing on this important task we are again and again being focus off track by village idiots who think Chamisa and company are demigods who must never be questioned.

And so instead of focusing on getting the reforms implemented we are talking about whether Chamisa is indeed an infallible demigod. Even know with all the track record of corruption and incompetence some one still believe Chamisa is a demigod!

There are some things we should not even talk about, calling a mere mortal a demigod is one of them. Yet here we are, we even have troops of howler monkeys adamant Chamisa is a demigod. No wonder we are a failed state, we have more than our fair share of nincompoops.

  9. An interim running Zimbabwe’s opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has asked its former leader Nelson Chamisa to hand over $US 6 Million as well as the party’s books, accounts and assets including the US 120K bullet proof car after he quit on Thursday, accusing the party of being hijacked by the ruling Zanu PF.

Mbuso Siso, the treasurer general, told this publication, that he would call Chamisa to confirm his resignation and ask him to provide the records of the party’s finances and donations. According to Mbuso, this includes the $US 6 Million recently donated by the US Embassy and the European Union for the February 3 by elections.

CCC have pushed the self-destruct button and once fired up there is no stopping the juggernaut.

In 2019 the MDC A self-destruct button was push with the High Court ruling that Chamisa’s ascendence into the presidency following Tsvangirai’s death in 2018 was illegal. The dog eat dog infighting raged on and one rending the opposition utterly useless for the rest of that parliament. History is repeating itself!

Zanu PF blatantly rigged the 2023 elections because MDC/CCC leader have failed to implement even one token reform to stop the rigging these 23 years; this is the history that is repeating itself. Zanu PF is set to rig the 2028 elections because Chamisa and company have wasted these coming five years fighting amongst themselves!

It is incumbent on us, Zimbabweans to replace Chamisa and company with competent men and women who will implement the reforms and stop Zanu PF rigging the 2028 elections. It is foolish to trust Chamisa and company to implement the reforms given their history of corruption and breath-taking incompetence.

  10. Now they have push the self destruct button Chamisa and company are now going to be fighting each other for the next five years. Zanu PF will do as it damn well please and come 2028 will rig these elections and so the dictatorship is perpetuated.

This is the nightmare the nation is facing and must deal with - how to stop Zanu PF rigging the 2028 elections! We should be worried about Zanu PF rigging the 2028 elections now and not in 2027, when it will be too late.

“Chamisa has resigned sir this is now a perfect opportunity for you to push for your so called reforms!” What are you wittering about?

Did Chamisa resign because he failed to implement any democratic reforms? Did you participate in the flawed elections all these last 23 years because you believed Chamisa and company would implement any reforms?

You have no clue what the reforms are much less how they are implemented. You have never understood what the GNU was about and even now, with the benefit of hindsight, you still have no clue what the reforms, GNU, etc. are about.

Chamisa will start a new political party and you will follow him blindly as before, no questions asked because it is in your nature to follow blindly. You believe Chamisa is an infallible demigod who must never ever be questioned. Of course, this is nonsense!

Chamisa is not only a mere mortal but a corrupt and breathtakingly incompetent one at that. You are angry with me for daring to say it. It is tragic that we still have amongst us many who are so shallow, thick and slow they think a mere mortal a demigod. But there it is!

Stop pretending that you know something about reforms much less that this “is now the perfect opportunity to push for reforms!” Zimbabwe will never implement any reforms as long as we have an electorate so ignorant and naive they are conned into participating in flawed elections believing the opposition can win rigged elections!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Man is supposed to be a creature of reason and not treat a mere mortal as a demigod to be followed blindly. But then not all humans are equal, some humans are more human than others!

Yes all humans are born with the mental capacity to think and reason but many lose that ability for various reasons including lack of mental exercise. The brain, like other tissue, has the propensity to ossify turning into fat, if not exercised.

Of course, you will follow Chamisa no matter what because you think he is an infallible demigod who is always right knows best. The truth is he is not only a fallible mortal but one with a well documented track record asw corrupt and breathtakingly incompetent. How anyone can still be so shallow thick and slow to think him a demigod beggars belief! But there it is!

I understand that Zanu PF accepted the US$3 million or so from the EU donated to each party to pay for the deployment of election agents in the August 2023 election. Zanu PF made a big song and dance about refusing the funds but in reality accepted it! The usual Zanu PF double Dutch!

The problem here is not the politicians but the people, they are so ignorant and gullible they believe anything. They believed Zanu PF when it promised one man one vote only to declare the bush war would continue if the people did not vote for the party. They believed MDC leaders would deliver democratic change only for Tsvangirai and company to sell out on reforms when the MDC leaders were bribed by Mugabe.

It is shocking that 43 years after independence we are still failing to hold free, fair and credible elections. There are many who still think we can let Zanu PF continue rigging the elections and still be a prosperous nation! Others have been conned into believing they can win rigged elections. Of course, we deserve to suffer until we learn.

  20. Mahere submitted her resignation letter to the Parliament Speaker Jacob Mudenda today (Monday).

Parliament will now have to declare the seat vacant, leading to a by-election.

The remaining CCC MPs are meeting at a caucus on Tuesday to decide on their future in Parliament, and a statement will be released then, according to spokesman Promise Mkwananzi.

    This is a circus!

  21. Bulawayo mayor David Coltart said Monday that a decision on his political future is imminent, but stressed that it will be influenced by "those I am directly responsible to."

Coltart, like other Citizens Coalition for Change MPs and councillors, is under pressure to quit in solidarity with Nelson Chamisa, who resigned as leader last week after declaring that the party has been "contaminated, bastardised and hijacked."

Fadzayi Mahere resigned as MP for Mt Pleasant on Monday and said she had ceased to be a CCC member, but party insiders say there is no stampede to leave just yet.

Coltart said: "I am still consulting a broad cross range of those who elected me, the residents of the great city of Bulawayo, trusted advisors, the elders of my church and of course my family.

"I will issue a clear statement regarding my intentions before next week. In essence, my focus is on those I am directly responsible to."

Coltart has won plaudits with his development-oriented manifesto for the city after being elected mayor in September last year. Many Bulawayo residents have taken to social media to urge him to stay as they warn that him leaving City Hall could open the door to the ruling Zanu-PF party to either impose a commission to run the city's affairs, or a Zanu-PF councillor might take over.

David Coltart has been participating in these flawed elections out of greed and confessed this himself.

Nothing has changed except that he cannot have his cake and eat it too. There is a factional war going on in CCC and it cannot be business as usual but it has nothing to do with the democratic will of the people.

Interestingly, the former MDC Alliance vice president, Professor Welshman Ncube, chaired the meeting. In previous interviews, Professor Ncube denied any affiliation with CCC Tshabangu.

According to the press statement issued by the CCC party's Communication Department, which includes Mr. Ngobizitha Mlilo, Caston Matewu, a member of parliament for Marondera Central, and Discent Bajila, a member of parliament for Bulawayo: "The National Standing Committee regrets and accepts the resignation of Advocate Nelson Chamisa as President of the party."

CCC have push the self-destruct button and once set in motion there is no stopping the juggernaut. MDC A pushed the same self-destruct button in 2019 and, as we know, the dog-eat-dog fighting raged on for the next four years. This CCC infighting will last just as long.

If we want to stop Zanu PF rigging the 2028 elections then we must do something about it because CCC members will no nothing; they are too busy fighting each other! The idea of Zanu PF rigging the 2028 elections is unthinkable and, unless we elect a competent opposition, real.

  24. CCC was weak because it had no strong democratic foundation; no constitution, structure, democratically elected officials and subject to the whim of an erratic whimsical. Chamisa has already proven that he is corrupt and breathtakingly incompetent.

The trouble with Zimbabweans is we love burying our heads in the sand in the hope that all unpleasant realities will disappear and we can then live happily ever after.

Those who will not learn from the past are destined to repeat the same foolish mistakes over and over again. We have a corrupt and incompetent opposition and so we have blundered from pillar to post. That CCC has pushed the self-destruct button and it tearing itself to pieces, just as Zanu PF has been doing, should not come as a surprise to anyone!

  26. ACTING President Kembo Mohadi has slammed the fractured CCC for bleeding national resources through its leadership chaos, which has caused unnecessary by-elections that have become a strain to the national fiscus.

Elections are generally costly to any nation and authorities have raised concerns that budgeting for a series of by-elections is an unnecessary expenditure for Treasury.

The country emerged from the harmonised elections in August 2023, but four months later, by-elections were held to replace National Assembly and local authority members who were recalled by disputed CCC interim secretary-general, Mr Sengezo Tshabangu.

After the December by-election Mr Tshabangu instigated a second wave of by-elections to be held this Saturday and is on record saying the recalls are not yet over.

The Government has budgeted US$11 million for the December 2023 and February 2024 by-elections with US$5 million being spent in the December by-election while another US$6 million will be used in the polls set for Saturday.

This is one true thing Zanu PF has said in a long time; these by-elections are a criminal waste of money!

  28. THE battle to control the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) continued yesterday with rival factions announcing separate plans on the way forward following the resignation of party leader Nelson Chamisa last week.

A faction linked to Chamisa resolved during their citizens national assembly (CNA) to engage Chamisa while also announcing a committee to lead the party in the interim.

A rival faction aligned to interim secretary-general, Sengezo Tshabangu, resolved to revert to the 2019 structures during an extraordinary standing committee meeting chaired by Welshman Ncube.

Chamisa aligned CCC spokesperson, Promise Mkwananzi also known as Promise Pfunye in some circles, said they would never surrender the party to Tshabangu.

"In that regard, the CNA resolved never to surrender the struggle to Zanu-PF and its cronies and will do everything possible to defend the people's struggle and citizens' interests, including court cases, illegal recalls and impostors, political arrests, the position of our deployees in councils and Parliament, shrinking democratic space, economic challenges, illegitimacy and many others," Mkwananzi said.

Now that the lines between the two waring factions have been defined and draw the dog-eat-dog fighting has kicked off and each side will give no quarter and expect none from the other side. This is going to be a long drawn war of attrition and whilst it lasts, there will be no opposition in Zimbabwe and so Zanu PF will do as it damn well please. Zimbabwe’s opposition has always been weak but now it might just as well be none existent.

Zanu PF blatantly rigged the 2023 elections and and this CCC factional war will do nothing to stop Zanu PF rigging the 2028 elections too! If the people of Zimbabwe want to stop Zanu PF rigging the 2028 elections then we must accept CCC will never implement any reforms and elect opposition leader who will finally get this job done!

  31. Following the yesterday private meeting between advocate Biti and advocate Sikhala, they conducted separate press interviews at different locations.

The main theme that emerged from their interviews is their distancing from President Chamisa.

An anonymous attendee of the meeting shared, "Indeed, Honorable Biti and Honorable Sikhala had a secret meeting at Honorable Sikhala's house while the rest of us waited outside. They briefly informed us that we are no longer aligned with Advocate Chamisa and that something significant is on the horizon."

During his interview, Advocate Biti explicitly stated that he is now the Vice President of Tshabangu's CCC. It is worth noting that in a previous interview, Advocate Biti claimed to have no affiliation with CCC under President Chamisa.

Advocate Sikhala, on the other hand, expressed his dissatisfaction with CCC President Chamisa and the party members, stating that they did nothing for him while he was in prison. As a result, he distanced himself from them, citing their abandonment during his imprisonment.

However, in a departure from his previous stance, Advocate Sikhala now asserts that he became the CCC Vice President following President Chamisa's departure. He argues that his position as the MDC Alliance Vice President in 2019 justifies his new role.

Now that the CCC factional war has been declared with Chamisa’s dramatic departure the fighting is gathering momentum and is unstoppable.

The people of Zimbabwe have risked all to elect MDC/CCC leaders to implement the democratic changes to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections. They have failed to implement even one token reform in 23 years, including the 5 in the GNU. And now with this factional war, they will be preoccupied to even pay the lip-service to reforms.

Zanu PF rigged the 2023 elections and unless the people wake, the regime will rig the 2028 elections too. We should not expect CCC leader to do anything to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections.

“What if Coltart truly believes that he has value to add to the City of Bulawayo. Should everything be black and white? No grey areas?

I think as Zimbabweans we must get a life. We analyze too much that we can't even get anything done. Toxicity yacho, it's too much.”

MDC/CCC leaders have failed to implement even one reform in 23 years and hence the reason we are still stuck with the corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship. How anyone can pretend this is not the number one problem beggars belief! So what did Coltart accomplish by participating these flawed election to perpetuate the Zanu PF dictatorship?
