Mngangagwa pledges to end corruption by 2023 - cobra never bites another. You're illegitimate, step down P Guramatunhu

“Many measures have been put in place to fight corruption and the people are now free to talk about it. Officials are being arrested and before that was taboo. Now we’re talking about it, it means it’s being solved,” said Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Dr Sibusiso Moyo.

Minister Moyo please do not insult our intelligence! Mugabe admitted the country was being “swindled out of US$15 billion in diamonds alone!” He never arrested one diamond swindler or/and recover one dollar of the swindled fortune. Mnangagwa has been in power for nearly three years, he too has not arrest one swindler and/or recover one dollar.

We all know that the Army, the Police, CIO, Mugabe, Mnangagwa and a few other institutions and individuals have/had diamond mining concessions. We all know of “Churu chaMujuru” (Mujuru’s anthill!)  and the US$ 32 million loot amass by former Police Commissioner, Augustine Chihuri was from the Police’s diamond mining activities.

You, Minister Moyo and VP Chiwenga, as senior Army Officers you received your share of the Army’s diamond mining activities which you have used to build your mansions and to buy other properties and business interests. Mugabe and Mnangagwa too have amassed their fortunes from the wholesale looting still taking place to this day.

Yes, Mnangagwa has arrested a few individuals for corruption but these are the small fish mostly. The real big fish responsible for the looting of the big fortunes will never be arrested. You Minister Moyo, VP Chiwenga and Mnangagwa himself are the godfathers of corruption.

No godfather of corruption will dare arrest another godfather. No matter how angry a cobra gets, it will never ever bite another cobra because it knows before the other’s dying wish will be to die with its fangs buried in opponent!

The people know to stamp out the gross mismanagement, the rampant corruption and the lawlessness which earned Zimbabwe the pariah state status, destroyed the economy and driven the investors and donors away; we must end the curse of rigged elections and bad governance. And to do that we must first implement the democratic reforms necessary to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections.

“This is President Mnangagwa’s election pledge card, he pledged to fulfil the fight against corruption by 2023. He asked to be measured with regards to fighting corruption by the people ahead of 2023 elections, it’s his pledge card and he is serious about fighting this scourge that is eroding the economic fibre,” continued Dr Moyo.

Mnangagwa rigged the July 2018 elections; ZEC failed to produce something as basic as a verified voters’ roll. Unless we implement the democratic reforms to stop Zanu PF rigging, the party will rig the 2023 elections, guaranteed.

Since we cannot trust Zanu PF to implement the reforms we must exert all pressure to force Zanu PF to step down so we can appoint an interim administration to implement the reforms.

This Zanu PF regime have no democratic mandate to govern. It is illegitimate and is holding the nation hostage! Enough is bloody enough!

First of all, I would like to thank you for this insightful contribution, “Is Khupe an MDC or Zanu-PF creation?” in Bulawayo 24.

“A pattern that continues to repeat itself, each time Zimbabweans are in desperate need of opposition leadership, an internal implosion occurs at the top, which throws the party into a state of confusion, compromising its ability to deliver change to its supporters and Zimbabweans at large,” you said.

Given the fact MDC leaders have failed to implement even one token reform in 20 years; implementing reforms remains the number task for all the opposition parties in Zimbabwe to this day; proves that confusion has reigned supreme in the MDC none stop for the last 2 decades and counting.

Former US Ambassador to Zimbabwe 2004 – 2007, Chris Dell, said Tsvangirai was “a flawed and indecisive character who would be an albatross to the nation, should he get into power”! He could have said the same of the entire MDC leadership and still history would have proven him right!

Lo and behold! MDC did get into power or be it in the Government of National Unity (GNU) in 2008 to 2013. Tsvangirai and company had the golden chance to implement the democratic reforms the nation has been dying for. Not even the constant nagging by SADC leaders to “follow the Global Political Agreement (GPA) roadmap!” would force Tsvangirai and company to implement even one reform in five years.

Since the GNU, Zanu PF has allowed the opposition to win a few gravy-train seats, bait to entice they participate in the elections regardless of the glaring irregularities and illegalities. By participating the opposition have given the flawed electoral process credibility and the result legitimacy.

So, the golden opportunity presented by the GNU to end the curse of rigged elections was wasted. The nation remained stuck with the corrupt, incompetent and murderous Zanu PF dictatorship that rigged elections to remain in power. And, just to rub hot chilli in our sore eyes; by failing to implement the reforms and then participating in flawed elections; MDC leaders gave the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy!

In our effort to get rid of the corrupt, tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship, the first albatross round our necks; we risked life and limb to elect MDC leaders to implement the reforms. MDC leaders not only failed to implement the reforms but are now helping Zanu PF stay in power and thus have become the second dead-weight albatross accelerating our sinking into the abyss.

“Horrible contradictions exist, baffling for instance is that in just two years the same (MDC) leaders who endorsed the coup against the late former President Robert Mugabe, were soon in bed with him and are now working with his close allies,” you observed.

Zimbabwe politics is a madhouse! Whilst one lot of MDC leaders is having quality time with Mugabe and G40 faction, the second lot is having quality time too. The cries of innocent people shot dead for protesting rigged elections or soaring cost of living provided the romantic ambience to Mnangagwa’s “small-house” POLAD marriage!

When MDC leaders failed to implement even one reform in five years of the GNU they proved they had gone beyond the point of no return. There was nothing under the sun they would not do for selfish gain. As for implement the reforms, they had thrown them out of the window during the GNU there was no retrieving them, much less implement them.

The real tragic is, there are still a number of Zimbabweans who acknowledge MDC leaders have indeed failed to implemented even one reform in 20 years and yet they refuse to believe their own eyes even now with all the benefit of hindsight. It is these naïve and gullible voters who continue to follow MDC sell-outs blindly like sheep to the slaughter. Their blind loyalty give discredited MDC leaders credibility just as the MDC leaders themselves are giving vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy!

A naïve and gullible electorate are a curse to democracy. And as long as a significant number of Zimbabweans remain naïve and gullible there is no hope for us ever getting out of the hell-on-earth we now find ourselves stuck in. None!

"Zanu PF is debris, embrace @nelsonchamisa" Professor Moyo is advising - celebrated MDC GNU blunders P Guramatunhu

When Mai Mujuru was booted out of Zanu PF in 2014 within months she was criticizing Zanu PF and her former mentor, Robert Mugabe, for mismanagement, corruption, vote rigging, murderous oppression, etc., etc. She had played her part in establishing and retain the Zanu PF dictatorship, she had her lion’s share of the spoils of power and for 34 years she had defended the dictatorship unreservedly and with no shame.

It was only after she was booted out of the party that she saw the evil of the dictatorship; her Dotito “puppy eyes opened”, as Mai Mujuru said herself.

It is interesting to hear what Professor Jonathan Moyo has to say about Zanu PF and his former colleagues now that he, like Mai Mujuru has been booted out of the party.

“While some may see ZanuPF as a political party, it has never been one. I did not have this view before 2000, but since then I have come to understand that ZanuPF is a system or culture steeped in the military; with a tainted history, a troubled present, with no future! The fact that ZanuPF is not, and I would say has never been, a political party, in the traditional sense of the term, has far reaching implications on why it must go,” said the Professor from his fox-hole in exile.

“When I reexamined the subtitle, “why ZanuPF must go”, on the back of the view of ZanuPF as a system & culture, it became clear that it should be: “why ZanuPF has gone”. The ZanuPF system or culture has disintegrated physically & hegemonically. What remains is its caricature!

“The crisis in Zimbabwe today is from the fact that, while ZanuPF has physically & hegemonically collapsed, the military which was embedded in ZanuPF since the 1975 Mgagao Declaration, staged a coup in 2017 to seize ZanuPF; thinking it was a going concern when it was debris!”

Zimbabwe’s economic mess and political paralysis started soon after independence when it became clear that Mugabe and his Zanu PF cronies were determined to impose a one-party state and they did not care two hoots about riding roughshod over the people’s freedom and rights including the promised “One man! One vote!” and even the right to life!

Robert Mugabe definitely viewed Zimbabwe as his trophy to do with as he pleased. And throughout his 37 years in power, that is exactly what he did.

"So, Blair, keep your England and let me keep my Zimbabwe." Mugabe told his audience at the Earth Summit in Johannesburg in September 2002. And judging from how he had rob the nation blind, building his palatial Blue Roof mansion, amass farms and living a lavish lifestyle whilst millions of ordinary Zimbabweans lived in abject poverty, he clearly meant it literally as well as metaphorically!

The fact that Zanu PF had no guiding principles, values and coherent ideology, other than to seize and retain absolute power at all cost and loot, does not disqualify the entity calling themselves a political party.

Professor Moyo’s claim that the November 2017 military has, somehow, made Zanu PF worse must be dismissed with the contempt it rightly deserves. The replacement of Mugabe, Moyo and a few other G40 leaders by Mnangagwa and his Lactose supporters was no more than a black mamba shedding its old skin – it is still a deadly snake.

It is also important to note that it was none other than Professor Jonathan Moyo who sat next to Patrick Chinamasa as he announced Zanu PF had never ever blocked any reform proposals. The fact that not even one reform had been implemented in the five years of the 2008 to 2013 GNU was not Zanu PF’s fault. Of course, Chinamasa, said that with great pride for it was one of Robert Mugabe and Zanu PF’s finest hour!  

The two and half years in exile have not transformed Professor Moyo from the ruthless Zanu PF’s chief propagandist and strategist who had kept Zanu PF in power from 2000 to 2017 into a human being who now sympathised with the tragic suffering ordinary people and wanted Zanu PF to go. Not at all! Like our Dotito puppy, Moyo wants Zanu PF to go so he can returned to Zimbabwe and resume his political shenanigans and intrigue from where he left off.

“ZanuPF is no longer viable to exZanla commanders; is not an option for exZipra now in charge of ZDF & was rejected by voters in the 2018 polls! What is to be done? The people & the military must find each other. The people embraced the military in Nov 2017. Now the military should make amends & embrace the people by respecting their 2018 vote for @nelsonchamisa. It’s the people who must govern, not the military!” argued Professor Moyo.

For the record, Professor Jonathan Moyo backed, morally and financially, Nelson Chamisa in the July 2018 elections. Of course, Moyo KNEW with no reforms Zanu PF will rig the July 2018 elections guaranteed and still he DID NOT advise Chamisa not to participate.

One can only assume that Professor Moyo must have believed Chamisa could still win rigged elections. If Chamisa had indeed won the rigged elections he would have wanted a cunning and ruthless advisor to show him how to take full advantage of Zimbabwe’s oppressive and dysfunctional political system. And guess who would fill that bill perfectly – Professor Jonathan Moyo.

No doubt Professor Moyo is aware that Mnangagwa and his regime and under ever increasing pressure to step down as the country’s economic meltdown gets worse. The corona virus has economic and humanitarian havoc the world over; the Zimbabwe economy was already in the gutter before the pandemic it is now sinking in the sewage without a strangle.

As long as Zimbabwe remains a pariah state ruled by corrupt, incompetent, vote rigging and murderous thugs; no one is going to help us. The pressure on Zanu PF to step down will increase as the country sinks deeper and deeper into economic abyss. Professor Moyo will fight hard to make sure “@nelsonchamisa” is the frontrunner to takeover should Zanu PF step down.

I believe Zanu PF will, in the end step down because the economic meltdown is politically and socially unsustainable. If MDC and/or Zanu PF play any part in the interim administration then it is almost certain that the democratic reforms to ensure free, fair and credible elections will not be implemented. The two parties failed to get any reforms implement during the 2008 to 2013 GNU it is naïve to think they will do any better especially with the likes of Professor Jonathan Moyo as the chief advisor!  

"Join protest demanding legitimate state" called Chamisa - he gave legitimacy away, wandering Jew N Garikai

In Christian legend the wandering Jew is a character doomed to live until the end of the world because he taunted Jesus on the way to the Crucifixion. He is doomed to wander, looking for something he is doomed never to find because he does not know what it is he is looking for.

Nelson Chamisa is the “wandering Jew” of Zimbabwe politics.

“Going forward, as we alluded to in our independence speech, 40 is a sacred number – life begins at 40, the children of Israel took 40 years to cross into Canaan and Jesus Christ spent 40 days and 40 nights in the wilderness. Zimbabwe turned 40 this year! Hope is our portion!” said Chamisa in his latest epistle.

“Let us prepare for the new independence as we claim back all that was stolen and demand a people’s government through citizens’ peaceful protests per section 59 of the constitution. People of Zimbabwe deserve a legitimate capable state. The change we demand! None but ourselves!”

This is just nonsense! MDC has had many golden opportunities to implement the democratic reforms necessary to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections. The party has failed to implement even one reform. Not one! To make matters worse, MDC has continued to participate in these flawed and illegal elections, ignoring the repeated advice not to, and giving Zanu PF legitimacy.

Is Chamisa suggesting MDC did not implementing reforms, etc. to end the Zanu PF dictatorship deliberately because the nation was waiting to reach this magic number – 40 years. Now the nation has reached the magic age we can finally enter our Promised Land – a healthy and functioning democratic Zimbabwe!

Except that Zimbabwe is still a pariah state, a Banana Republic, ruled by corrupt, incompetent, vote rigging and murderous thugs and not a democratic country. Chamisa, who envisages himself as the Biblical Joshua, has failed to lead the nation across the imaginary River Jordan! Indeed, the people of Zimbabwe will be very foolish to continue to follow this wandering Jew!

Chamisa and his MDC friends are corrupt, incompetent and sell-outs. The people of Zimbabwe have risked life and limb to elect these MDC leaders to implement the democratic reforms designed to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections. Instead of implementing the reforms the MDC leaders have sold-out big time and are now Zanu PF acolytes. They are running with the hare and hunting with the hounds.

The only way out of this economic and political mess is for Zimbabwe to find someone who will implement the democratic reforms since MDC have failed to do it.

As long as MDC continues to give Zanu PF political legitimacy by participating in flawed elections; Zanu PF thugs use this ill-gotten legitimacy to resist pressure for the regime to step down. The solution is to expose MDC leaders for what they are – corrupt, incompetent and sell-outs with no political credibility.

By failing to implement any reform in 20 years, participating in flawed elections and now by denying Chamisa’s unconstitutional succession was anything but MDC leaders have but stripped themselves of all political credibility. Zanu PF will now find the party cannot derive political legitimacy from a discredited opposition party. Zanu PF will be compelled to step down.

Nelson Chamisa and his corrupt, incompetent and sell-out MDC friends have no clue what the democratic reforms needed to dismantle the Zanu PF dictatorship are much less how they are to be implemented. It is therefore no surprise that they have failed to implement even one reform in 20 years. All these Zimbabweans out there who continue to follow and support MDC, no questions asked, must know in Chamisa they have the wandering Jew personified.

"Now is the time to liberate ourselves" - Why NOW? New Dotito puppy tale of the unexpected N Garikai

Zimbabwe’s corrupt and incompetent politicians, right across the political divide, take the Zimbabwean electorate for fools!

It was only after Joice Mujuru was booted out; “baby dumped”, as Grace Mugabe gleefully boasted; of Zanu PF in 2014 that she finally discovered she had a voice to against corrupt and oppression. And yet just a few months before she had address a Zanu PF Women’s League meeting in Chinhoyi in which she had categorically denied there was corruption in the country. Thanks to modern technology, someone had recorded her speech and it went viral.

“Mwana wembwa haasvinuri zura raazvarwa!” (A puppy does not open its eyes the day it is born!) Mujuru explain when asked why she had never criticized Zanu PF corruption and tyranny whilst she was still in power.

We are to believe that Dotito (Mujuru’s home area) puppies take 34 years just to open their eyes!

The High Court ruling, confirmed by the Supreme Court on 30 March, that Nelson Chamisa’s seizure of power following Tsvangirai’s death had indeed violated the MDC constitution; has thrown the cat among the pigeons. The Court ruling nullify the succession and the leadership of the power was handed to Thokozani Khupe, the cat, in a silver platter.

Since the 2018 palace coup Chamisa and his supporters had given Khupe and her lot a torrid time made worse by the humiliating performance of her faction in the July 2018 elections. The Court gave have the sword with which to administer her revenge and, by Jove, she has been slashing merciless; right, centre and left.

It is a bloodbath in the MDC cage. 13 MDC legislators have been recalled and Madam Khupe is not done yet!

"The enemies of the struggle claim to have recalled me. l was sponsored by MDC Alliance and voted by the people of Mkoba. My Parliament is in Mkoba. We remain focused to free the people of Zimbabwe from the jaws of poverty emanating from the legitimacy crisis and massive corruption from Zanu-PF,” said Amos Chibaya, one of the recalled MPs.

“To the MDC Alliance family and all Zimbabweans who want to see change lets remain strong and focused. We cannot be silenced, the time is now to liberate ourselves."

The people of Zimbabwe have risked life and limb to elected MDC leaders into power on the understanding the party will implement the democratic changes the nation has been dying for all these last 40 years. MDC has been on the political stage for 20 years, 5 of which in the GNU, and has failed to implement even one democratic reform. Not one!

If MDC leaders had indeed remained “focused to free the people of Zimbabwe” then the party would have implemented all the democratic reforms especially during the 2008 to 2013 GNU when they had their best chance!

“The time is now to liberate ourselves!” So, MDC did not implement even one token reform all these last 20 years because the party was waiting for the right time – NOW!

Why now, one might well ask? That is easy to answer, Amos Chibaya and his MDC colleagues recalled have lost their gravy-train seat in parliament or senate together with all the generous salary and allowance that goes with it. To win back their gravy-train seats they must win the confidence of the electorate by pretending, if elected, they will this time implement the reforms to secure freedom, free elections, economic recovery, etc.

So, MDC did not implement even one democratic reform these last 20 years because it was the wrong time to do so. This is a typical Zimbabwe political tale from the unexpected to add to the Dotito puppy that took 34 years to open her sexy eyes and many, many more such tales!  

"The vultures of progress will never win!" declared Mnangagwa - "You are that vulture!" W Mukori

"We shall not allow a situation where our people live in chronic insecurity, lack and deprivation. It has become apparent that in our midst, there are wolves in sheep clothing, vultures. The end is coming," Mnangagwa eulogized at Heroes Acre yesterday.


"Let us never be complacent, the war of today is neither guns nor bombs. The war against our economic prosperity is on-going.



"Rest assured that the enemies of progress and economic growth of our country will never win as long as we remain united. The challenges we face are not insurmountable. I exhort all of us not to surrender, it is not over.

"Despite the setbacks we may face, Zimbabwe needs people who choose peace over disharmony, tranquillity over violence, love and peace over hatred, morality, integrity and hard honest work over immorality, laziness and corruption. We must choose justice and truth over lies and falsehoods."

The real wolf in sheep’s clothing, the vulture, pedalling lies and falsehoods is none other than Mnangagwa himself. How can the war to achieve economic prosperity even be won when for the last 40 years gross mismanagement and rampant corruption, the cancers in our economy, have been allowed to grow and spread to every sector of the economy.

Mnangagwa promised “zero tolerance to corruption” when he took over from the late Mugabe in November 2017. He has failed to stamp out corruption.

In 2016 Mugabe admitted the country was being “swindled out of US$15 billion” in looted diamonds alone. Mugabe has never arrested one diamond swindler and/or recover one swindled dollar. It is now two and half years since the November 2017 coup and Mnangagwa has yet to arrest one diamond swindler and/or recover one dollar.

“Corruption is deep-rooted!” Mnangagwa has since admitted.

Of course, corruption is deep-rooted! Most of Mnangagwa cabinet members, to brass in the security services, CEO in civil service and private sector, etc. including Mnangagwa himself are the chief beneficiaries of the gross mismanagement and rampant corruption, the godfathers of all the wholesale looting.

As long as Zanu PF remains in power the corruption will never end. Zanu PF will never ever reform itself out of office no more than a cobra will never ever defang itself! Never ever!

After the November 2017 coup, Mnangagwa also promised to hold free, fair and credible elections. After 37 years of rigged elections the people of Zimbabwe welcomed the opportunity to have a meaningful say in the governance of the country. Sadly, they were to be disappointed as Mnangagwa went on to blatantly rig the elections.

“The elections were free, fair and credible!” Mnangagwa has insisted time and time again.

A blatant lie! Of course, the elections were rigged. ZEC even failed to produce something as basic as a verified voters’ roll.

Zimbabwe is a pariah state, a Banana Republic, ruled by corrupt, incompetent, vote rigging and murderous thugs. 40 years of corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship have left the country in economic ruins and political paralysis. The oppressive political system has stifled debate and democratic competition allowing scum to rise to the top in both the ruling party and the opposition.

“I swear by the living LORD that the man who did this ought to die! For having done such a cruel thing, he must pay back four times as much as he took,” said King David after the Prophet Nathan told him of the story of the rich man who had killed the poor man’s only ewe-lamb to feed his guests.

“You are that man,” said the Prophet Nathan.

King David was filled with remorse and repented. We are not so lucky!

“Rest assured that the enemies of progress and economic growth of our country will never win as long as we remain united!” Mnangagwa, you are the enemy of progress! After 40 years of misrule, you still refuse to accept you have failed and, worst of all, ruthless deny the people a meaningful say in the governance of the country!

The only way out of this hell-on-earth Zimbabwe finds itself in is for the vote rigging Zanu PF regime to step-down, it has no mandate to govern. This will allow the political space for the appointment of an independent body tasked to implement the democratic reforms to end the curse of rigged elections.  

MDC bulls have locked horns, they are fighting to the death - no glory for either or nation. "Shaisano!" W Mukori

Now that the MDC bulls have locked horns, there is no stopping the fight! There is death for both bulls, no glory! “Shaisano!” as one would say in Shona.  

Ever since the Supreme Court judgement on 30 March 2020 handing over the leadership of the MDC-T to Madam Thokozani Khupe, she has wielded the axe mercilessly to stamp her authority. She has recalled 13 legislators who have not switched their allegiance from Chamisa and she is not done yet.

“Deputy spokesman (MDC Khupe) Khaliphani Phugeni told reporters that 30 plus legislators had attended the parliamentary caucus, but refused to name them. However, sources within the opposition party said under 20, out of 103, attended,” reported Newsday.

But MDC Alliance presidential secretary Jameson Timba said the MPs snubbed Khupe.



"The legislators of the MDC Alliance have remained loyal to their conscience," Timba said.



"They are deployees of the party and struggle, they realised the issues that are facing Zimbabwe will require true representatives and, therefore, will not follow an appendage of Zanu-PF."

This is just mid-summer madness! MDC leaders and supporters have become so polarized even the presence of a fly is enough to push them over the edge. The MDC Alliance leaders had nailed their colours firmed with Chamisa, not the party, it is very hard for them to switch now. The fact that Mai Khupe had burn her ship by joining POLAD, just to remain relevant, has made her damaged goods. And all those who join her now, know that they too will be damaged goods by association.

"The legislators of the MDC Alliance have remained loyal to their conscience!" What a truck load of bull! 

MDC leaders across the faction divide sold-out when the failed to implement even one reform, in participating in flawed and illegal elections, etc. Where was their conscience then?????

The tragedy is MDC leaders have decided to indulge in this hara-kiri at a time when the country is facing its greatest existential threat in the form of corona virus. The MDC has played its part in keeping Zanu PF in power against the democratic wishes of the people and now the regime’s blundering incompetence is making the pandemic worse. There is no one to hold the corrupt and blundering Zanu PF thugs to account because MDC legislatures are busy fighting over a fly!

It pays in the end to get the best in the beginning! In electing Mugabe and his Zanu PF thugs into power, we have had many golden opportunities to remove them from office, we elected crap!

We should have learned our lesson and be more diligent in electing Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends to champion the cause of implemented the democratic reforms to end Zanu PF dictatorship. Sadly, we had learned nothing as MDC leaders have turned out to be sell-outs and crap too!

Yeah! It pays in the end to get the best in the beginning! Now that the MDC leaders have lost all political credibility, let us clean the political deck and start all over again. And this time we must be very, very diligent on who we elect as leaders!

“We take the firm view that the state institutions, including parliament are being abused to reverse the will of the people and replace it with an unholy alliance between Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa and Ms Thokozani Khupe,” Mahere said in a statement.

The recall of MPs are a consequence of the High Court judgement on Chamisa’s unconstitutional seizure of power following the death of Tsvangirai to portray it as anything else is to refuse to face the reality and thus bury one’s head in the sand.

While a handful of party MPs have jumped ship and were now in the Khupe camp, Mahere insisted the rest have chosen to remain true to their conscience and will not fall for material benefits availed by one siding with the enemy.

Well, well! It is rich for Ms Mahere to be talking of “remaining true to one’s conscience and will not fall for material benefits”. Where was her conscience when she participated in the July 2018 elections in pursuit of gravy train material benefits ignoring all the warning against contesting without reforms?

Mnangagwa knows the likes of Biti, Mahere, Coltart and Chamisa will contest the 2023 elections even if not one reform is implemented and too will Khupe, Mwonzora and the rest from her faction. It is little wonder Zanu PF has no intention of implementing any democratic reforms; why should they and risk losing the elections when they know the opposition will participate no matter what and give the flawed process credibility. What is more, the opposition know this too as David Coltart readily admitted.

In his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe, David Coltart, former MDC – Ncube Senator and Minister of Education in the 2008 GNU, gave details of how Zanu PF was flouting the electoral rules in the upcoming 2013 elections. It was clear the elections would not be free, fair and credible.



“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the elections,” wrote Senator Coltart.


“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”

So the MDC MPs and Senators sold-out by participating in the flawed and illegal July 2018 elections for gravy train material benefits and now, to keep those benefit, they must swear alligance to Madam Thokozani Khupe whose political credibility is tarnished beyond the pale.

Yes, all MDC leaders in the 2008 to 2013 GNU lost 90% of their political credibility by failing to implement even one democratic reform during the GNU. Of course, the sold-out big time!

By participating in the flawed elections for the sake of the few gravy-train seats Zanu PF gave away as bait MDC leaders lost 9% of the 10% political capital they still had left. Madam Khupe’s poor showing in the 2018 elections left her in no doubt that she was washed-out and so gambled her remaining 1% to be Mnangagwa’s poodle in his POLAD talk-shop group.

Mnangagwa demanded that to join POLAD one had to endorse the July 2018 elections as having been free, fair and credible and Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF cronies as the legitimate government. Endorse that position and you rule out any need for implementing reforms. If the July 2018 elections were free, fair and credible then, of course, you do not need any reforms. And so by endorsing the rigged July 2018 as free and fair Madam Khupe and company proved themselves a Zanu PF project in all but name.

There is no denying that the High Court ruling restoring her as the leader of the MDC including the all MPs, Senators and Councillors the Chamisa led faction had won has given Madam Khupe a political leg-up! Nonetheless she is still damaged goods, nothing can repair the political damage done by joining POLAD. Nothing!

So, the former MDC Alliance elected leaders, like Homer’s Odysseus, are caught between Scylla and Charybdis, rock and a hard place. Madam Khupe wields the power to recall all those who do not swear allegiance to her and they will lose all their gravy-train material benefits. By switching their allegiance, they will be spared the chop but, just like Madam Khupe herself, they will lose the little political credibility they had left.

Some of the MDC Alliance MPs and Senators had come out with guns blazing in support of Chamisa they have found it near impossible switch loyalty back to Khupe. So far a total of 13 MPs and Senators have been recalled, some have switched and the rest are still sitting on the fence – a mighty uncomfortable position as any monkey would know!

Chamisa and his entourage’s refusal to accept that he had indeed behaved like a Zanu PF thug when seized power in 2018 has left them looking foolish. Only someone with no common sense would defend the indefensible! And so the Chamisa star is fading fast, chance of him or any of his followers staging a political comeback are slim.


The real tragedy here is, in the corona virus pandemic, Zimbabwe is facing the greatest trial of our generation and no one, even a mediocre opposition is better than nothing, is keeping an eye on the corrupt, incompetent and murderous Zanu PF regime blundering from pillar to post, as usual! No one because MDC are busy fighting among themselves over trivial matters. The nation is going to pay dearly for this in sweat, blood, lost treasure, heart-breaking suffering, anguish and many lost lives!

9 more MDC MPs recalled, hit self-destruct button - age of foolishness without even hour of wisdom P Guramatunhu

The Speaker of National Assembly, Advocate Jacob Mudenda has just announce the recall of nine more MDC legislators at the behest of MDC-T leader, Douglas Mwonzora.

Ever since the Supreme Court judgement confirming the High Court’s ruling that Nelson Chamisa’s succession as leader of the MDC had violated the party’s own constitution, it was clear this was a matter that would divide the MDC. Still, few would have imagined there would be this much chaos, confusion and blood bath!

Tsvangirai’s appointment of Chamisa and Mudziri as VPs of the party was messy and so too was Chamisa’s takeover of the party following Tsvangirai’s death. The failure by the party to sort this mess is what one would expect given the party’s history as corrupt and incompetent. Sadly, this mess is proving to be so divisive the party is subdividing in such way, mutual annihilation, that the emerging factions are so weak and feeble they are utterly useless.  

The real tragedy here is MDC is engaged in this self-destruction at the very time the nation is facing its greatest ever existential threat from the corona virus pandemic. It is bad enough the pandemic is happening at a time when the country is facing economic meltdown and political paralysis after 40 years of corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF rule. It is a nightmare that the nation should still be in the hands of the corrupt and incompetent Zanu PF thugs during this pandemic with no oversight even from the corrupt and incompetent MDC!

The last 40 years have been hell for Zimbabwe but compared to what now lays ahead, it was heaven. The last 40 years has been a time of foolishness with very little wisdom, the years of winter with a few days here and there of spring. There is nothing before us by years foolishness, despair and evil and none of the good and wise! None!

“Several Zimbabweans have been treated like junk in their own country. The Chinese have been left to do as they please in our mother land,” wrote Dr Masimba Mavaza, in a recent article.

“While China is our all-weather friend it must not be allowed to give us its bigots pretending to be investors. Chinese largely do not respect black people and our government must stand for its people and not for the bigoted Chinese pausing as our friends.  How much blood has to be shed in Zimbabwe before the Chinese are called to order. We must never be Afraid to arrest and prosecute our Chinese friends if they behave in an unfriendly manner.

“Without a government to provide the safety of law and order, protecting citizens from each other and from foreign foes the nation will be in a free for all fall. The horrors of little or no government to provide that function are on global display in the world's many fragile states and essentially ungoverned regions.  Zimbabwe must not fall into that category.”

Every Zimbabwean, indeed anyone, with half a brain would join you in condemning the ill treatment of another human being especially by those in the position of power and authority. There have been too many stories of thuggery and lawlessness be it by these maShurugwi or Chinese employers which the Police have failed to investigate and hold those responsible to account, for whatever reasons.

However, what every thinking Zimbabwean out there would find repugnant about you, Dr Masimba Mavaza, is your hypocrisy. You are quick to condemn the lawlessness of the Chinese employers but say nothing about the more sinister and deadly institutionalised state lawlessness and murderous oppression.

For the last 40 years and counting this Zanu PF regime was ridden roughshod over the people denying them their freedoms and rights including the right to a free and fair election and even the right to life itself! Mnangagwa; the man you worship and praise, whose likeness is on the shirt and trade-mark scarf you wear; blatantly rigged the July 2018 elections and shot dead 7 for daring to protest the rigged elections.

“Without a government to provide the safety of law and order, protecting citizens from each other and from foreign foes the nation will be in a free for all fall. Zimbabwe must not fall into that category,” you said. 

Zimbabwe’s state institutions have been corrupted and compromised so much so they are not only failing to protect the people from each other but worse still from the overbearing and oppressive ruling elite. Zimbabwe is a pariah state, a Banana Republic, ruled by corrupt, incompetent, vote rigging and murderous thugs and it is sickening that people like you bury their heads in the sand and refuse to this political reality.

Dr Mavaza, you only pretend to care about the wellbeing of ordinary Zimbabweans by condemning the Chinese employers’ abuse of Zimbabweans and yet have continue condone the Zanu PF dictatorship that has crashed the whole nation’s hopes, dreams and human dignity.

Zimbabwe is in a real economic and political mess. 34% of our people live in abject poverty, according to World Bank report late last year; i.e. they cannot afford one decent meal a day let alone other basic necessities such as education, medicine, etc.

The corona virus pandemic is causing economic and humanitarian havoc the world over but those nations, like Zimbabwe, who economy and health care services were already in a mess, will be hit very hard. Hundreds of thousands of Zimbabweans are set to lose their lives to corona virus and hundreds of thousands more will die of hunger and other poverty related problems. Zimbabwe’s economic recovery will harder and take a lot longer than that of the developed nations!

The real threat to the wellbeing and, indeed, to the very survival of the ordinary Zimbabweans comes not from the oddball individual, the lawlessness of the Chinese employer, but from the corrupt, tyrannical and dysfunctional Zanu PF dictatorship. It is nonsensical to make a big song and dance about the excess of the individual thug and yet say nothing about the state thuggery especially when the later not only affects millions of people but is the instigator of the lawlessness and worse!

Government has confirmed that schools will reopen on Tuesday July 28. In May government announced that schools will reopen 29 June but was forced to postpone to allow the relevant authorities “to mobilise resources”! What resources, they did not say. Now we know!

"Though we were saying school heads are ready to work for as long as we receive material support in terms of resources such as masks and sanitisers, currently schools rely on fees and coffers are empty," said one school head told Sunday Mail.

So, over and above their demand for a living wage, the schools are asking government to supply them with sanitisers to disinfect the schools regularly, thermometers to check the temperature of teachers and students and face mask and other PPE.

The schools were closed 30 March at the start of the nationwide lockdown to stop the spread of corona virus on the understanding that school will reopen as soon as it was safe to do so. In May when government’s own covid-19 case reports showed the virus was not spreading as fiercely as feared, as of 26 May 2020 the country had 65 confirmed cases, and so schools were to reopen 29^th June. The authorities had a month to mobilize and get ready to reopen schools.

Now it emerges that the one month to mobilise after the May decision was not enough. Government has given itself two months to mobilise but even that is not enough!

It is no secret that Zimbabwe has failed to supply PPE, sanitisers, clean running water and all the other basic requirements to its frontline workers and institutions dealing with suspected and confirmed covid-19 cases 24/7. Yes, teachers, students and schools must be adequately protected from corona virus infection but surely the priority is to supply nurses with PPE before considering the teachers’ needs.

Last week government announce that it will increase the health care workers’ wages by 50% (a very sick joke given inflation is already 800%) and pay US$ 75.00 covid-19 allowance. The rest of the civil servants including teachers were to get a similar wage increase plus allowance. Given the country’s economy has been shrinking, this will only fuel the run-away inflation.

As for the clean running water, sanitisers, PPE, etc. for schools; just forget it!

Since 26^th May Zimbabwe’s confirmed official covid-19 cases have shot up from 63 to 486 and, there in doubt, the number will double by the time school reopen on 29 July. The real figure is 50 times! Zimbabwe’s corona virus problem is matching that of SA with 83 890 confirmed cases therefore Zimbabwe, with ¼ the population of SA, with have 21 945 cases not 486!

Still, it makes no sense that Zimbabwe closed school with 10 (official) confirmed covid-19 case and will be reopening school at a time the confirmed cases 1 000 and soaring fast! Worse still the schools will have no resources to maintain the bear minimum hygienic condition to contain corona virus and the country will have no rigorous testing regime to quickly identify corona virus outbreaks.

There is no doubt that schools will be one of the many covid-19 hotspots just as quarantine centres housing returnees have become!

1.6 million or 10% of the population in Zimbabwe, at least, will be infected by the corona virus and hundreds of thousands will die. Officially, the country will have a few thousand conformed cases and a few hundred dead. 1 000 lost lives will be counted as 1 death, if you are lucky!

Zimbabwe's buffoons plotting yet another coup to avoid ICC prosecution - after 40 years, enough is enough N Garikai

“The country’s military leaders have reportedly agreed in private, to invite former Zanu PF political commissar and ex-local government minister, Saviour Kasukuwere, to return back home from South Africa, with the view of laying the ground for his eventual takeover as Zimbabwe president,” reported Spotlight Zimbabwe.

“The disclosures come at a time when, President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s regime, is jittery and perturbed about rumours of an imminent coup d’état, as the Zanu PF leader all but shut down three major cities in panic this week without notice, to curb potential civil unrest.

“Defence sources said, “some very senior” commanders are concerned about the possibility of the ICC hauling them to The Hague, to answer charges of crimes against humanity and army killings of civilians, in the last two decades through war-like operations such as Operation Hakudzokwi, and the recent August 2018 and January 2019 army killings and shooting of civilians, for protests against presidential poll theft and fuel hikes respectively.”

This story only shows that it is not only Mnangagwa who is jittery and confused, his political opponents too are just as jittery and confused. The same military buffoons were behind the November 2017 military coup and solidly behind Mnangagwa whom they had no doubt would revive the Zimbabwe economy and everyone would live happily ever after.

Well the happily ever after has turned into a nightmare as the economy has sunk even deeper into the abyss and Mnangagwa has turned out to be just another clueless tyrant blundering from pillar to post.  

“Zimbabwe is home,” Kasukuwere told Spotlight Zimbabwe. “I will be going back home once the Covid-19 situation has stabilized and security issues addressed. We are all duty bound to work and uplift our country, which is going through unprecedented pain at this moment.”

The military buffoons are now turning to Kasukuwere; just another Zanu PF ruthless tyrant with no more brain than a village idiot!

No one of any substance is going to tolerate another military coup in Zimbabwe. The world is turning the screw on this Zanu PF regime and if there is another coup, the screws will be turned so tight the regime will be crashed to death in a matter of weeks!

The only thing to save Zimbabwe from sinking even deeper into the abyss is for the country to implement the democratic reforms and hold free, fair and credible elections. Like it or not it is time that the Zanu PF buffoon accept that the dictatorship has been a total failure and change, long overdue, must now happen and will happen.

Zanu PF has held this nation to ransom for the last 40 years with tragic, tragic, economic, political and humanitarian consequences. Enough is enough!  

"Zanu PF corruption is killing us!" one half, the other "MDC greed is Zanu PF's keeper!" P Guramatunhu

“MDC National Spokesperson Fadzai Mahere has condemned the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission for alleging failing to investigate the Coronavirus tender scam that has sucked in Minister of Health Obadiah Moyo,” reported Bulawayo24.

“The fiery spokesperson also took aim at the government for using state apparatus to block people from getting into CBD to attend parliamentary hearings on the constitutional amendment.”

“The real issue before us is that corruption is killing us!” proclaimed Mahere.

No one would disagree with that; corruption is indeed killing Zimbabwe and that it is Zanu PF thugs who are behind the looting. We have known this for decades! The key point is what can we do to end corruption?

It has been as clear as day that as long as Zanu PF was able to rig the elections and stay in power the looting will only get worse. So the challenge was to implement the democratic reforms designed to stop Zanu PF rigging elections.

The people of Zimbabwe have risked life and limb to elect Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC colleagues into power on the understanding that they will implemented the democratic reforms. They had their best opportunity ever to implement the reforms during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. They failed to get even one reform implemented because Mugabe bribed them with ministerial limos, very generous salaries and allowances, a US$4 million mansion for Tsvangirai, etc., etc. With their snouts in the feeding trough MDC leaders to the man and woman forgot about the reforms for five years!

Of course, MDC leaders sold-out on reforms and have been doing so ever since the GNU.

SADC leaders begged, literally, Tsvangirai and his MDC friends not to participate in the 2013 elections without first implementing the reforms. “If you go into elections next month, you are going to lose; the elections are done!” SADC leaders told Tsvangirai and company during the SADC Summit in Maputo, according to Dr Ibbo Mandaza, the director of SAPES, who was there.

Needless to say Tsvangirai and company ignored SADC leaders’ warning and participated in the 2013 elections with no reforms. Needless to add, that Zanu PF blatantly rigged those elections.

Not only did MDC leaders know that with no reforms Zanu PF will rig the elections but worse still they knew by participating they will be giving credibility to the process and thus legitimacy to the Zanu PF government. They still went ahead regardless out of greed, as David Coltart admitted in this book.

If anyone thought MDC leaders and the rest in the opposition camp had finally learned the lesson on the critical importance of implementing the democratic reforms to ensure free, fair and credible elections; he/she was wrong. The MDC leaders’ greed has blinded their eyes and made their minds impermeable to reason.

Chamisa and the whole Zimbabwe opposition entourage were falling over each other to participate in the 2018 elections although it was as clear as bell that Zanu PF was rigging the elections.

“MDC has devised stringent measures to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections!” Chamisa countered those arguing the opposition must not take part in the elections without reforms.

Once again Zanu PF blatantly rigged the 2018 elections. Of course, MDC was totally helpless to stop the rigging. Indeed, Chamisa et al did not even insist on the production of a verified voters’ roll – a legal and common sense requirement!

“Zanu PF corruption is killing us!” True, but that is only half the story. The other half is “MDC greed is keeping Zanu PF in power!” For as long as MDC participation in rigged elections helps Zanu PF claim some modicum of legitimacy Mnangagwa and company will remain in office and the wholesale looting will continue.

Mnangagwa knows that as long as Zanu PF continues to offer a few gravy-train seats to the opposition Chamisa et al will participate in the elections regardless how flawed and illegal the process gets!

If Zimbabweans want the democratic reforms implemented so the country can finally have free, fair and credible elections and good governance; they must wake-up to the reality that MDC leaders are now interested in sharing with Zanu PF the spoils of power and have long abandoned the hope of implementing the reforms. MDC leaders are now running with hare, whilst they are seeking povo’s vote, but once in power they will hunt with the Zanu PF hounds!

"We maintain strongly that ZANU cannot unilaterally alter a constitution that was approved by 93% of Zimbabweans in a referendum. Moreso when some of the proposed amendments seek to alter the basic structure of the constitution. The constitution is sacrosanct & should be protected," said Tendai Biti.

He is commenting in the wake of ongoing public hearings on the Constitutional Amendment Bill 2.

One does not have to be a lawyer to dismiss Biti’s comment as yet another example of the MDC silverback gorilla grandstanding and posturing. Of course, there is no such thing a sacrosanct constitution that cannot be amended!

Even the American Constitution, one of the best constitutions in the world and has served the American people well and has stood the test of time was amended.

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” Reads the first amendment to the USA Constitution.

The amendment was passed in 1791, three years after constitution was officially adopted in June 1788 after New Hampshire, the critical ninth state, ratified the Constitution.

There is no doubt that the first USA Constitution and many they have followed has largely enhanced the people’s freedoms and rights and democracy and good governance - that country’s greatest blessing. Sadly the same cannot be said of proposed second amendment to Zimbabwe’s constitution.

“The first amendment (passed September 2017) to the 2013 Zimbabwean Constitution, empowering the President to appoint the Chief Justice, has undermined the compromise central to the consultative drafting process. Considering the Zimbabwean post-colonial tradition of legislative claw back of progressive constitutional provisions and judicial pronouncements, this raises questions on whether the drafters should have recognized unamendable provisions or at least entrenched the judicial appointment process.” Wrote David T Hofisi in Constitution Net.

It should be pointed out that the 2013 Zimbabwe Constitution itself is weak in that it gave the State President excessive powers with none of the usual democratic checks and balances. The first amendment only served to consolidate the excessive Presidential power to the judiciary.

One of the things the second amendment to the Zimbabwe constitution will do is scrap the requirement for an elected Vice President giving the State President the power to appoint and fire the VP just as he/she has power to appoint/fire cabinet members!

Tendai Biti’s objection to the ongoing exercise to pass the second amendment is foolish political grandstanding for two reasons:

1)    Tendai Biti and his fellow MDC colleagues were involved in the drafting of the feeble 2013 Constitution give the State President excessive powers and the campaigned for its approval in the March 2013 referendum. It is therefore rich for Biti to now be posturing defending a feeble constitution.

2)    This Zanu PF government blatantly rigged the July 2018 elections, it has no mandate to govern the country much less amending the constitution. And yet there is no denying that the participation of MDC and the whole coterie of opposition parties and candidate have given some credibility to the otherwise flawed and illegal election process and hence some modicum of legitimacy to this illegitimate regime. Again, it is very rich of our MDC Godzilla all teeth but no bite monster to be questioning the legality of the amendment process when he and his troop are the ones who gave the Zanu PF regime legitimacy!       

In short there is nothing wrong with amending a Constitution per se. A strong Constitution is the foundation on which amendments can be added to enhance and strengthen the freedoms, rights and good governance. Weak and feeble Constitutions, such as the Zimbabwe 2013 Constitution, are nothing but a dictator’s creed and the tyrant will only seek to strengthen his/her dictatorial powers with each constitutional amendment!  

Tendai Biti and company let the horse bolt free and he is now making a big song and dance about closing the stable door! Shut up Godzilla! “Chienda undovhiya mbudzi!” as one would say in Shona.
