MDC bulls have locked horns, they are fighting to the death - no glory for either or nation. "Shaisano!" W Mukori

Now that the MDC bulls have locked horns, there is no stopping the fight! There is death for both bulls, no glory! “Shaisano!” as one would say in Shona.

Ever since the Supreme Court judgement on 30 March 2020 handing over the leadership of the MDC-T to Madam Thokozani Khupe, she has wielded the axe mercilessly to stamp her authority. She has recalled 13 legislators who have not switched their allegiance from Chamisa and she is not done yet.

“Deputy spokesman (MDC Khupe) Khaliphani Phugeni told reporters that 30 plus legislators had attended the parliamentary caucus, but refused to name them. However, sources within the opposition party said under 20, out of 103, attended,” reported Newsday.

But MDC Alliance presidential secretary Jameson Timba said the MPs snubbed Khupe.

"The legislators of the MDC Alliance have remained loyal to their conscience," Timba said.

"They are deployees of the party and struggle, they realised the issues that are facing Zimbabwe will require true representatives and, therefore, will not follow an appendage of Zanu-PF."

This is just mid-summer madness! MDC leaders and supporters have become so polarized even the presence of a fly is enough to push them over the edge. The MDC Alliance leaders had nailed their colours firmed with Chamisa, not the party, it is very hard for them to switch now. The fact that Mai Khupe had burn her ship by joining POLAD, just to remain relevant, has made her damaged goods. And all those who join her now, know that they too will be damaged goods by association.

"The legislators of the MDC Alliance have remained loyal to their conscience!" What a truck load of bull!

MDC leaders across the faction divide sold-out when the failed to implement even one reform, in participating in flawed and illegal elections, etc. Where was their conscience then?????

The tragedy is MDC leaders have decided to indulge in this hara-kiri at a time when the country is facing its greatest existential threat in the form of corona virus. The MDC has played its part in keeping Zanu PF in power against the democratic wishes of the people and now the regime’s blundering incompetence is making the pandemic worse. There is no one to hold the corrupt and blundering Zanu PF thugs to account because MDC legislatures are busy fighting over a fly!

It pays in the end to get the best in the beginning! In electing Mugabe and his Zanu PF thugs into power, we have had many golden opportunities to remove them from office, we elected crap!

We should have learned our lesson and be more diligent in electing Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends to champion the cause of implemented the democratic reforms to end Zanu PF dictatorship. Sadly, we had learned nothing as MDC leaders have turned out to be sell-outs and crap too!

Yeah! It pays in the end to get the best in the beginning! Now that the MDC leaders have lost all political credibility, let us clean the political deck and start all over again. And this time we must be very, very diligent on who we elect as leaders!

  1. The MDC bulls have locked horns and they are going to fight to the death, their mutual hatred of each other is stronger than their hatred of Zanu PF. Each would rather see Zanu PF remain in power than have their former MDC colleague get into power. The hara-kiri is to the death. "Shaisano!" as one wiould say in Shona.

  2. While at face value, the victory against the Mutharika dynasty in Malawi is attributed to Lazarus Chakwera and his Malawi Congress Party, the reality is that MCP provided the Presidential candidate for Tonse Alliance which brought together 7 different political parties in a rather complex fashion.

When the people of Malawi finally boot Kamuzu Banda from office they should have taken time-out to implement the democratic reforms necessary to ensure the Banda dictatorship was completely uprooted and dismantled. Sadly, they did not do so and hence the dictatorial powers have remained and each successive government has exploited these powers undermining democracy and good governance.

Malawi is stuck with a political system guaranteed to produce a mediocre government, at best, and the threat of the dictatorship emerging is never far away! The government that has emerge this time is such a mixed bag, they will never agree on anything and so will accomplish nothing of value!

  3. The Bulawayo based Wholesale Centre Liquor Hub owned Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce Rajeshkumar Indukant Modi is reportedly refusing to accept bond notes and local currency as a medium of exchange.

    What a hypocrite!

  4. @ Vince Musewe

"There is no doubt that without a fundamental structural transformation of our economy from a dualistic enclave economy, whose economic activity is mainly driven by the production of primary products, to an industrialised economic base, we will remain unable to meet the growing needs of our population and to create sustainable higher incomes.

"Although Zimbabwe has had a number of industrialisation policies, the lack of political traction, access to long term capital and strong aggressive leadership from the private sector has resulted in de facto deindustrialisation and the proliferation of cheap imports while thousands of jobs and incomes have been lost. This is evidenced by empty factories and a bourgeoning informal sector which now accounts for an estimated 80% of economic activity and employment.

"Radical Economic Structural Transformation (REST) is now necessary to reinvent and modernise our industrial base. In doing so we have to take account of both our history and the future. Our new industrial policy must learn from the past while embracing the 4th industrial revolution so that we may leap frog and utilise technological advancement to recreate our economy."

As long as Zanu PF is able to rig elections and stay in power REST or any other economic programme, regardless how sound, will ever see the light of day. The challenge is how to get Zanu PF to step down so we can implement the democratic reforms to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections.

Why you still wittering on and on about the economy reform when it will never happen until there is political reform beggars belief. You have 10 chapters lined up!

You have set you foolish mind on the economic reform and reality, reason, logic, nothing is ever going to stop you. With people like you around Mnangagwa knows that Zanu PF’s rule is secure for generation to come!

“Charovedzera, charovedzera gudo rakakwira mawere kwasviba!” You are a creature of habit not reason or logic!

  5. But in an interview yesterday, Ncube said those rejecting the $2 and $5 notes were committing a serious crime, insisting that the government had done everything in the book to try to tame inflation, but their efforts were being frustrated by saboteurs.

"The $2 and $5 bond notes are legal tenders, so they should be accepted, it is illegal to refuse those notes and, therefore, there is need for enforcement," he told NewsDay.

We are back to the bad 2008 days when one could not send a 15 year old to go and buy one loaf of bread – he is not strong enough to carry the volume and weight of paper money to pay for it! The Z$2 and Z$5 notes have lost so much value already that one would bother pick up one if they dropped any.

It is very foolish for Professor Mthuli Ncube to be joining Mnangagwa and other Zanu PF thugs blaming the public for his and the regime’s own failures. The people are not the ones responsible for the runaway inflation now at 800% and climbing!

  6. When the elephants fight, it is the grass and the ants that suffer. Yes the two MDC factions are now in a fight to the death and it is the ordinary people who are suffering the most. The people have risked life and limb to elect MDC leaders on the understanding that once in power they would implement the democratic changes the nation was dying for. After 20 years of MDC on the centre stage, the party has failed to implement even one meaningful reform. Not one!

I agree that MDC leaders are busy fighting each other whilst Zanu PF drags the nation deeper and deeper into this corona virus hell. Frankly, MDC leaders have been utterly useless the hara-kiri taking place now in which both MDC factions will destroy each other is just what the doctor ordered.

The international community condemned Zimbabwe's July 2018 elections as a farce and their condemnation would have put Zanu PF under great pressure to step down was it not for the MDC and the rest of our opposition politicians. By participating in the flawed and illegal elections MDC and the rest of the opposition gave Zanu PF legitimacy. It Zimbabweans themselves are happy to participate in elections so flawed and illegal ZEC failed to produce something as basic as verified voters' roll; then it is not for outsiders to condemn the elections.

The dog-eat-dog fighting taking place within MDC ranks is showing the world just how corrupt and incompetent MDC leaders are. Neither Nelson Chamisa and his supporters nor Thokozani Khupe and her supporters are going to come out of this with any political credibility.

Even some of the most naive and gullible MDC supporters are at a total lose at the sheer madness taking place before their eyes. If there was still any lingering doubts that MDC leaders are corrupt and incompetent these doubts are being removed!

The bottom line is MDC dogfight has helped clear the deck for the voices of reason to be heard and set the national agenda out of this mess.

  7. @ Charlie

“ZANUPF is laughing at the monkey-like antics of these clowns who constitute the MDC leadership. From Tsvangirai, Ncube, Biti, Khuphe, Chamisa I see now that there is none among these that are still relevant to the ideals of the democratic project. What we have here is a group of self-serving individuals who have hijacked the MDC and converted it into a personal money-spinning fiefdom; there is definite agenda only squabbling on who is who. We have an illegitimate leader (according to the ZANUPF Court) who commands 99% support of the party and the legitimate leader (according to the ZANUPF Court) who has no support. What is not to laugh?”

After MDC leaders failed to implement even one meaningful reform during the 2008 to 2013 GNU the party lost political credibility with SADC leaders and the international community but not with the naïve and gullible run-of-the-mill MDC supporter. This dog-eat-dog fight among the MDC leadership is forcing even the gullible MDC wildebeest to question what is going on. Without their sheepish supporters then MDC leaders will lose all political credibility clearing the deck for an alternative voice, a voice of reason.

Make no mistake about is, if there were fresh elections tomorrow both Chamisa and company and Khupe and her lot would participate even though not even a token reform was implemented. The difference is both Chamisa and Khupe are now considered sell-outs with no credibility and so the election will be ignored just as the world ignored Ian Smith and Abel Muzorewa’s 1979 internal settlement!

  8. MDC Alliance Happymore Chidziba who was recalled by the Thokozani Khupe led MDC-T from parliament has said he is happy that he was recalled from the house of assembly for standing with the people rather than choosing selfish interest like some sell-outs in the party.
You participating in the 2018 election knowing fully well that with no reforms in place Zanu PF will rig the elections. You also knew that Zanu PF will give away a few gravy-train seats, especially in the urban areas, as bait to entice the opposition to contest the elections. You fought hard to win the Hightfield West constituency.
You did not care that Zanu PF blatantly rigged the July 2018 elections. To help Zanu PF rig the elections, ZEC failed to produce even something as basic as a verified voters’ roll. You did not care about any of that as long as you managed to win one of the few give away seats. If that is not selling out then what is!!!
You have been a Chamisa supporter because you believed he help you climb the greasy pole and to switch your allegiance to Khupe now was going to be very difficult if not impossible. So, the decision to stay with Chamisa was forced on you and had nothing to do with principles. You are a sell-out who now finds his reading of the direction the political wind was blowing was all wrong!
Before the recall you had the gravy train seat and you were happymore. Now you have been recalled you are happy(no)more!

  9. Professor Jonathan Moyo has said it is everyone’s responsibility to fight for freedom from Zanu PF oppression.
Moyo added Zimbabweans should not expect MDC Alliance leader, Advocate Nelson Chamisa “to fight a lone battle.”

    Below is Moyo’s argument:
It’s therefore very wrong for Zimbabweans to expect @nelsonchamisa
and MDC-A to fight alone against the system, which has usurped the constitutional authority of the people. Zimbabweans must fight together as one, just like Malawians. If Malawi did it, Zimbabwe can also did it!

Malawi, just like Zimbabwe, got off on the wrong foot after independence when it found itself with a thug like the late Kamuzu Banda as president. We had the late Robert Mugabe, the man Professor Moyo considered a hero.

One of the mistakes Malawi made after they finally managed to remove Banda from office was failing to implement the democratic reforms to dismantle the Banda dictatorship. And so all the successive regime since Kamuzu Banda have taken advantage of the dictatorial powers created by Banda making it impossible for the country to have a healthy and functioning democracy.

Professor Jonathan Moyo is not interested in freedom, human rights, democracy, etc., etc. What he is after is removing the Mnangagwa regime and replace it with the G40 Zanu PF faction or be it by using MDC as the front. Moyo is using some of his looted wealth and political cunning to help Chamisa win power but if anyone thinks Moyo will want a democratic Zimbabwe then he/she is naïve!

Professor Jonathan Moyo is not interested in fighting for freedom or a better Zimbabwe - his Zanu PF track records speaks volumes of him as a corrupt and ruthless thug who helped establish and retain the Zanu PF dictatorship. What Moyo wants is to remove the Mnangagwa regime and replace it with a G40 dictatorship . He is just using Chamisa and the MDC as the front.

If we are serious about dismantling the Zanu PF dictatorship then we must be smart enough to know people like Moyo have their own hidden agenda and working with them is the most foolish thing we can ever do because they will see to it that there is no democratic change!
