"Zanu PF corruption is killing us!" one half, the other "MDC greed is Zanu PF's keeper!" P Guramatunhu

“MDC National Spokesperson Fadzai Mahere has condemned the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission for alleging failing to investigate the Coronavirus tender scam that has sucked in Minister of Health Obadiah Moyo,” reported Bulawayo24.

“The fiery spokesperson also took aim at the government for using state apparatus to block people from getting into CBD to attend parliamentary hearings on the constitutional amendment.”

“The real issue before us is that corruption is killing us!” proclaimed Mahere.

No one would disagree with that; corruption is indeed killing Zimbabwe and that it is Zanu PF thugs who are behind the looting. We have known this for decades! The key point is what can we do to end corruption?

It has been as clear as day that as long as Zanu PF was able to rig the elections and stay in power the looting will only get worse. So the challenge was to implement the democratic reforms designed to stop Zanu PF rigging elections.

The people of Zimbabwe have risked life and limb to elect Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC colleagues into power on the understanding that they will implemented the democratic reforms. They had their best opportunity ever to implement the reforms during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. They failed to get even one reform implemented because Mugabe bribed them with ministerial limos, very generous salaries and allowances, a US$4 million mansion for Tsvangirai, etc., etc. With their snouts in the feeding trough MDC leaders to the man and woman forgot about the reforms for five years!

Of course, MDC leaders sold-out on reforms and have been doing so ever since the GNU.

SADC leaders begged, literally, Tsvangirai and his MDC friends not to participate in the 2013 elections without first implementing the reforms. “If you go into elections next month, you are going to lose; the elections are done!” SADC leaders told Tsvangirai and company during the SADC Summit in Maputo, according to Dr Ibbo Mandaza, the director of SAPES, who was there.

Needless to say Tsvangirai and company ignored SADC leaders’ warning and participated in the 2013 elections with no reforms. Needless to add, that Zanu PF blatantly rigged those elections.

Not only did MDC leaders know that with no reforms Zanu PF will rig the elections but worse still they knew by participating they will be giving credibility to the process and thus legitimacy to the Zanu PF government. They still went ahead regardless out of greed, as David Coltart admitted in this book.

In his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe, David Coltart, former MDC – Ncube Senator and Minister of Education in the 2008 GNU, gave details of how Zanu PF was flouting the electoral rules in the upcoming 2013 elections. It was clear the elections would not be free, fair and credible.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the elections,” wrote Senator Coltart.

“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”

If anyone thought MDC leaders and the rest in the opposition camp had finally learned the lesson on the critical importance of implementing the democratic reforms to ensure free, fair and credible elections; he/she was wrong. The MDC leaders’ greed has blinded their eyes and made their minds impermeable to reason.

Chamisa and the whole Zimbabwe opposition entourage were falling over each other to participate in the 2018 elections although it was as clear as bell that Zanu PF was rigging the elections.

“MDC has devised stringent measures to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections!” Chamisa countered those arguing the opposition must not take part in the elections without reforms.

Once again Zanu PF blatantly rigged the 2018 elections. Of course, MDC was totally helpless to stop the rigging. Indeed, Chamisa et al did not even insist on the production of a verified voters’ roll – a legal and common sense requirement!

“Zanu PF corruption is killing us!” True, but that is only half the story. The other half is “MDC greed is keeping Zanu PF in power!” For as long as MDC participation in rigged elections helps Zanu PF claim some modicum of legitimacy Mnangagwa and company will remain in office and the wholesale looting will continue.

Mnangagwa knows that as long as Zanu PF continues to offer a few gravy-train seats to the opposition Chamisa et al will participate in the elections regardless how flawed and illegal the process gets!

If Zimbabweans want the democratic reforms implemented so the country can finally have free, fair and credible elections and good governance; they must wake-up to the reality that MDC leaders are now interested in sharing with Zanu PF the spoils of power and have long abandoned the hope of implementing the reforms. MDC leaders are now running with hare, whilst they are seeking povo’s vote, but once in power they will hunt with the Zanu PF hounds!

  1. It is very true that Zanu PF corruption is killing us but is it not MDC greed that is keeping Zanu PF in power?

MDC had the opportunity to implement the reforms to end Zanu PF rule during the GNU and the party failed to implement even one reform in five years. Not one!

By participating in the July 2018 elections the MDC and the rest of the opposition gave credibility to the flawed and illegal elections. Mahere was warned not to take part in the elections without the reforms but she would not listen. She was the one running around ferrying people to voter registration centres and did not even have the common sense to ask for a verified voters' roll!

She will be participating in the 2023 elections even if not even one reform is implemented, Zanu PF knows that and hence the reason the party will never bother implementing even one token reform!

Yes madam, Zanu PF corruption is killing us and we cannot remove Zanu PF from office because MDC's greed is giving the regime legitimacy!

  2. So from a total 828 tests 62 were positive or 7.5%, this clearly shows there are a hell lot of covid-19 cases out there which are being missed out because the country is not doing enough tests. The number of covid-19 cases have gone up from 63 on 26th May to 263 today 18th June 2020 and yet the regime is still doing 800 or so tests per day. This is wilfully inadequate!

The cost of a covid-19 test is US$6 to US$20. The cost to the individual and the nation of failing to detect one covid-19 cases who then goes on to infect others will very quickly run into tens of thousands of dollars! Why Zimbabwe has done so few tests, 61 413 as of today, is a complete mystery.

Of the 62 new cases 20 are local, 9 got the virus from known covid-19 cases with the remaining 11 unknown. One hopes this will force the regime to start taking the threat of increased local infections more seriously!

  3. Health Workers (nurses, doctors, pharmacy technicians, midwives, etc) have withdrawn their services with effect from today due to low wages. A letter to their employer said they were incapacitated and cited their reasons.

40 years of gross mismanagement and rampant corruption have taken a heavy toll on the nation. When these health workers talk of being "incapacitated" they meaning it financially, physically, morally and in every other way!

The chickens are finally coming home to roost and in their millions! This strike could not have happened at a worse time for the nation, the corona virus cases are going up as widely expected with the approach of the cold weeks ahead.

We have done very little to end the 40 years of Zanu PF misrule and now the nation is going to pay dearly for this folly. Worse still, the nation is going to be dragged into even deeper trouble if it does not act and end this Zanu PF dictatorship - the regime's blundering incompetence and corrupt tendency is making the bad situation even worse!

  4. Seeing Zanu PF corruption is the easy bit but asking some people to see MDC greed is near impossible; they have a binary mentality. They perceive the world in monochrome, black or white, right or wrong. They have judge Zanu PF the bad guys and MDC the good guys and having pigeon-hole MDC the guy goods, they cannot comprehend MDC leaders as capable of doing anything wrong regardless of the mountain of evidence put before them.

You are 100% correct; it is MDC greed that is keeping Zanu PF in power. MDC leaders had have many opportunities, the best being during the 2008 GNU, to implement the democratic reforms to stop Zanu PF rigging elections. MDC leaders have failed to implement even one democratic reform because they are breathtakingly corrupt and incompetent. Of course, MDC leaders have sold-out big time!

Take away the carte blanche dictatorial power to rig elections and Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF cronies will be as harmless as defanged black mamba!

“Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves; therefore be shrewd as serpents and innocent as doves,” said Jesus.

Being as shrewd as serpents means keeping one eyes and ears open and, most important of all, you mind open. Some people see but do not perceive, they hear but never understand because once they have pigeon-holed their world their binary mentality will not allow them to see anything else.

It has taken many years for many Zimbabweans to acknowledge that the country’s economy was robust and steaming ahead under white colonial rule. To acknowledge that was the most unpatriotic thing one could do. Having condemned the whites as the colonial oppressors the binary mentality does not allow one to admit the white could do anything right.

It took many Zimbabweans 20 years to acknowledge Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF cronies were corrupt, incompetent and murderous thugs. These were the country’s liberation war heroes and heroines; they were incapable of doing anything wrong much less something so malicious and repugnant!

Not only have MDC leaders wasted their golden opportunities to implement the reforms and defang the Zanu PF black mambas, they have given up on that. They have now settled for letting Zanu PF rig the elections and get as many of the gravy-train seats Zanu PF gives away as bait to entice the opposition to participate in the rigged elections.

I totally agree MDC are now running with the hare but hunting with the Zanu PF hounds. It could take several decades yet for the many binary minded people to comprehend that political reality!

Sad, to see only white and black and never once comprehend the breath-taking beauty of the world in full rainbow technicolour! For anyone who has seen the full rainbow technicolour will ever want to go back to the monochrome world, to binary mentality!

“Patrick I partially get your point, but the withdrawal of MDC from participating in those 'flaud elections' would not have done Zanu pf to rethink. Withdrawal of MDC would have been like giving Zanu pf a blank cheque. It is suicidal to do things banking on Sadc that they would intervene.
“Sadc as we all know has never said anything against Zanu pf. So for MDC I think it was a case where you are damned if you do and you are damned if you don't. It's better to die fighting than to die with your hands folded waiting a miracle to happen.”
Ndlovu, if I have heard what you are saying here millions of times and only those who have failed to understand what the 2008 to 2013 GNU was about keep saying this nonsense. SADC leaders made many mistakes in setting up the 2008 GNU but credit where credit is due, they are the ones who kept reminding MDC leaders to implement the democratic reforms designed to defang the Zanu PF black mamba!
As Patrick has rightly pointed out above, SADC leaders who warned MDC leaders on the folly of participating in the elections without reforms. As we know MDC leaders again ignored the warning.
David Coltart admitted in his book that it was foolish to participate in the 2013 elections without reforms but MDC did it out of greed.
“Withdrawal of MDC would have been like giving Zanu pf a blank cheque,” you say. So please tell us what did MDC accomplish by participating?
I have told you before Ndlovu and I will tell you again; you are just one of those MDC supporters who have spent decades with their heads buried in the sand their brains have atrophied into a useless lump of fatty tissue impermeable to reason and logic. MDC leaders had many golden opportunities to implement the democratic reforms, especially during the 2008 GNU, they failed to implement even one reform because they are corrupt and incompetent. That is historic fact! Your refusal to accept facts is holding back the nation, that too is a historic fact!

“MDC is offering solutions not barking like what you are doing. It is people like you and Khupe who are keeping ZANU PF in power by opposition what people stands for.”
On the contrary, it is people like Patrick who are offering solutions and it is MDC and its fanatical supporters with their binary mentality who are barking up the wrong tree!
MDC has been on the political stage for 20 years and 5 of which they were in government or be it a GNU. And in all these years they have failed to implement even one democratic reform. Not one!
So, what are you wittering about “MDC is offering solutions!” Name one solution they have offered in 20 years? Name just one?
We need to stop Zanu PF rigging elections and one sure way to achieve that was to implement the reforms which MDC had the chance to do during the 2008 GNU. Failure to do so left the opposition camp with no other option other than boycotting the elections.
It is insane to participate in an election without something as basic as a verified voters’ roll. In this case MDC’s greed has fogged their minds so much so they are now insane!
What Patrick is offering the nation is a way back to forcing Zanu PF to step down so that we can finally implement the reforms. That way involves seeing MDC leaders for the sell-outs they are, running with the hare and hunting with the Zanu PF hounds.
If the Zimbabwe people opened the eyes and ears and, most important of all, opened their minds they will see MDC leaders as sell-outs and stop following them. If the MDC have no public support their participation in flawed and illegal elections will be of no consequence as everyone can see they have no political credibility.
Thokozani Khupe has lost political credibility but Nelson Chamisa is not far behind. Just because Patrick was critical of Chamisa you immediate conclude he supports Khupe; with such infantile binary mentality it is little wonder the nation is stuck in the rut!

  7. It took 20 years plus for many people to accept that Robert Mugabe was a corrupt, incompetent, vote rigging and murderous tyrant; they had accepted him as a liberation war hero par excellence and they would not believe he could any wrong. They refused to believe what they saw with their own eyes!

The same people have since switched their blind loyalty from Zanu PF to MDC. It is a historic fact that MDC leaders have failed to implement even one reform in five years during the GNU, when they had the golden opportunity to do so. Many of these people refuse to accept that even now with all the benefit of hindsight!

What good is hindsight if you are physically and mentally blind!

  8. @ Mukwirivindi

The smart thing Nelson Chamisa should have done after the High Court judgement was to admit he had made a big mistake in seizing power the way he did. "I had behaved just like a Zanu PF thug!" He should have said and that would have taken the sting out of the whole story and saved his political career!

All his supporters like Tendai Biti, Mahere, Job Sikhala, etc. who have all come with guns blazing to defend Chamisa have made complete fools of themselves. Only a fool defends the indefensible!

So whatever little political credibility Chamisa and company had left (the lost a lot by failing to implement even one democratic reform during the 2008 GNU and then participating in flawed elections); they have now lost the lot with this debacle!

Thokozani Khupe lost whatever little political credibility she had left (she too lost tonnes of it by failing to implement even one reform during the 2008 GNU and participating in flawed elections); she lost the lot by joining Mnangagwa's POLAD!

It is no exaggeration that MDC is finished because neither the Chamisa faction nor Khupe faction has any political credibility worth a spit!

“Enlightenment is man’s emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one’s own understanding without another’s guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one’s own mind without another’s guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) “Have the courage to use your own understanding,” is therefore the motto of the enlightenment.”- Emmanuel Kant, Answering The Question: What Is Enlightenment?, 1784.”
Very interesting. But you were young once yourself and I am sure you will admit refusing to be told what to do. You were a minor, a nonage, but were so cocksure of what you were doing you would not accept guidance from anyone!
It is a nonsense to believe that on the day one turns 18 years of age or whatever he/she because the fountain of wisdom and therefore needs no guidance from anyone.
Indeed, the same can be said about dare to know (sapere aude)! The world is full of people who pretend to know but actually do not know whatever it is they say they know.
I would say enlightenment has to include the insatiable search for knowledge, the willingness to express one’s vision on the public arena and the open mindedness to fine tune one’s ideas or even throw them away if need be.

  11. As law abiding citizens we demand a legal and constitutional solution to Zimbabwe's challenges and that is the impeachment of a President who has failed. We can no longer continue on this trajectory of pain and suffering, we will not wait for 2023, we demand a constitutional process of impeachment. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa is not bigger than the Constitution, we demand that he be subjected to a constitutional proceed of impeachment.

This is just childish. Where is the constitution does it say one can impeach a president for being incompetent! If you voted for him then next time "voter beware!"

  12. “Why should we have our soldiers and police being abused, and be involved in MDC party political issues that have to do with the control of Harvest House?
“It’s just that I don’t want to go to Harvest House. If I want to, do you think there is anyone who can stop me from entering the building? I can walk into the building during daylight.
“However, because I am not a violent person and MDC Alliance is not a violent party, we are respecting the rule of law, so we are waiting for the court process, but we will not accept to be chased away from our base by visitors.”
This is typical of Nelson Chamisa; he is telling us he respects the Courts and is awaiting the Court to decide who has legal authority to use Harvest House. And yet this whole matter has arisen because he refused to accept the March 30 Supreme Court judgement that went against him.
Chamisa participated in the July 2018 elections boasting “MDC has stringent measures to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections!” He has been complaining ever since that Mnangagwa rigged the vote!
The day the people of Zimbabwe accept Chamisa and his MDC friends are a waste of space will mark the first day of the nation long road to recovery!

  13. "What is needed is for them to come together and find a common solution to our problems.

"This will solve the social and economic crises we are facing because everything is linked to political actions," University of Zimbabwe political science lecturer, Eldred Masunungure, told the Daily News.

"Having a GNU is not something new. It has been tried and tested before. We did this in 2009 and it worked.

"Prices stabilised then and the inflation rate dropped significantly. So, let us adopt this same solution and put to an end our diplomatic, social and economic woes," he added.

The single most important point is that the 2008 GNU failed to implement even one political reform and thus was a complete failure and for anyone to suggest the same Zanu PF and MDC GNU only goes to show he/she has no clue what they are talking about. We need a GNU but one in which both Zanu PF and MDC must have no part.

BREAKING: Minister Obadiah Moyo finally arrested...detained at Rhodesville Police station
    by Mandla Ndlovu
    33 mins ago | 646 Views

Confirmed reports form Harare indicate that the Health Minister Obadiah Moyo has been arrested and currently locked up at Rhodesville Police station where he will spend the night in cells.

Although the charges have not been officially confirmed, sources at the Ministers office who spoke to this reporter said he is being charged with criminal abuse of office.

The Minister has been under investigation over his sanctioning of a controversial coronavirus tender that saw about US$1 million being channeled to Drax International a company linked to President Emmerson Mnangagwa's son and fronted by one Delish Nguwaya who is currently in cells over the same case

Minister Moyo has a lot to answer for and top on my list is the cooked up covid-19 figures, the failure to provide basic hygienic conditions in the quarantine centres and the failure to carry out meaningful numbers of test, track and trace, especially among the local communities.

Hundreds of thousands of Zimbabweans are going to be infected with corona virus and many will die and all because Minister Moyo and the Zanu PF regime let them down!

  15. There is no denying it, Zimbabweans have not taken their responsibility of electing a competent government and holding their public leaders to account with the seriousness and urgency the matter demands. If they had done so then they would have realized by now that MDC leaders have sold-out.

The people have risked life and limb to elect MDC leaders on the promise that once in power they would deliver the democratic changes the nation has been dying for as the party name implies. It is clear that most of the MDC leaders themselves have no clue what these democratic changes were much less how they were to be delivered. The people themselves were even worse and so it was a case of the blind leading the blind.

When Mugabe offered Tsvangirai and his cronies the gravy-train bribes in return for the MDC leaders to forget about the reforms it was a bargain Tsvangirai and company could not refuse. They took the bribes and ditched the reforms.

"Mazivanhu eMDC adzidza kudya anyerere!" (MDC leaders have learned to enjoy the gravy-train trappings. They will never rock the boat!) Zanu PF thugs used to boast when asked why MDC leaders were not implementing the democratic reforms.

Of course, MDC leaders sold-out big time on reforms. Worse still, the MDC leaders know they have lost all political credibility they will never ever get any meaningful reforms implemented now. MDC will never boycott elections to force reforms because everyone knows it is their fault no reforms were implemented. MDC leaders have settled to winning as many of the gravy-train seats they know Zanu PF has to give away to maintain the facade of free, fair and credible elections!

MDC leaders have to convince the Zimbabwe public the country does not need to implement the democratic reforms any more; the party can win rigged elections. "MDC has stringent measures to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections!" said Chamisa before the 2018 elections.

Winning rigged elections is proving to be a tough sell given MDC has lost all the elections and blamed it on Zanu PF rigging the elections! Even the naive and gullible electorate are beginning to see they are being taken for fools!

  16. Obadiah Moyo Released Soon After Arrival At Police Station!

Catch and release! This is a very common story in Zimbabwe. Given the number of big Zanu PF leaders implicated in this scandal, it is an great achievement that the minister was even brought to the Police Station even for a few minutes, to confirm his name and date of birth and then released with a profound apology by the Commanding Officer!

Policing in Zimbabwe has become a very dangerous profession. When elephants fight; it is the ants that suffer. The Police Officers are being asked to arrest these big Zanu PF chefs knowing the chef will be released immediately to rick vengeance of them. Only a fool will dare approach an enraged bull armed with a toothpick to keep the bull away!

  17. President Cyril Ramaphosa has been told to act fast and take a stance on events currently unfolding in Zimbabwe. Our neighbours to the north are reporting that a fresh campaign of brutality is being conducted by government forces, after three prominent members of the opposition were allegedly abducted and abused.

The heavy-handed treatment of the political representatives has sparked huge concerns, and even the UN have expressed their disapproval of Mnangagwa’s tactics in dealing with dissent. However, it is the perceived silence of South Africa’s head of state that is causing upheaval on our own shores.

The most shameful thing President Ramaphosa has ever done regarding Zimbabwe was for him to endorse Zimbabwe's 2018 rigged elections. "They went well!" he said. And yet the Zanu PF regime failed to produce even something as basic as a verified voters' roll!

How tragic given the country is being "swindled 15 billion dollars in diamond revenue" as former Zimbabwe dictator Robert Mugabe confessed in 2016. He never arrested one swindler or recover one dollar. Mnangagwa has yet to arrest one swindler and/or recover one dollar. The wholesale looting has continued to this day, the mining in Marange and Chiadzwa has continued 24/7 to this day!
