"Zanu PF is debris, embrace @nelsonchamisa" Professor Moyo is advising - celebrated MDC GNU blunders P Guramatunhu

When Mai Mujuru was booted out of Zanu PF in 2014 within months she was criticizing Zanu PF and her former mentor, Robert Mugabe, for mismanagement, corruption, vote rigging, murderous oppression, etc., etc. She had played her part in establishing and retain the Zanu PF dictatorship, she had her lion’s share of the spoils of power and for 34 years she had defended the dictatorship unreservedly and with no shame.

It was only after she was booted out of the party that she saw the evil of the dictatorship; her Dotito “puppy eyes opened”, as Mai Mujuru said herself.

It is interesting to hear what Professor Jonathan Moyo has to say about Zanu PF and his former colleagues now that he, like Mai Mujuru has been booted out of the party.

“While some may see ZanuPF as a political party, it has never been one. I did not have this view before 2000, but since then I have come to understand that ZanuPF is a system or culture steeped in the military; with a tainted history, a troubled present, with no future! The fact that ZanuPF is not, and I would say has never been, a political party, in the traditional sense of the term, has far reaching implications on why it must go,” said the Professor from his fox-hole in exile.

“When I reexamined the subtitle, “why ZanuPF must go”, on the back of the view of ZanuPF as a system & culture, it became clear that it should be: “why ZanuPF has gone”. The ZanuPF system or culture has disintegrated physically & hegemonically. What remains is its caricature!

“The crisis in Zimbabwe today is from the fact that, while ZanuPF has physically & hegemonically collapsed, the military which was embedded in ZanuPF since the 1975 Mgagao Declaration, staged a coup in 2017 to seize ZanuPF; thinking it was a going concern when it was debris!”

Zimbabwe’s economic mess and political paralysis started soon after independence when it became clear that Mugabe and his Zanu PF cronies were determined to impose a one-party state and they did not care two hoots about riding roughshod over the people’s freedom and rights including the promised “One man! One vote!” and even the right to life!

Robert Mugabe definitely viewed Zimbabwe as his trophy to do with as he pleased. And throughout his 37 years in power, that is exactly what he did.

"So, Blair, keep your England and let me keep my Zimbabwe." Mugabe told his audience at the Earth Summit in Johannesburg in September 2002. And judging from how he had rob the nation blind, building his palatial Blue Roof mansion, amass farms and living a lavish lifestyle whilst millions of ordinary Zimbabweans lived in abject poverty, he clearly meant it literally as well as metaphorically!

The fact that Zanu PF had no guiding principles, values and coherent ideology, other than to seize and retain absolute power at all cost and loot, does not disqualify the entity calling themselves a political party.

Professor Moyo’s claim that the November 2017 military has, somehow, made Zanu PF worse must be dismissed with the contempt it rightly deserves. The replacement of Mugabe, Moyo and a few other G40 leaders by Mnangagwa and his Lactose supporters was no more than a black mamba shedding its old skin – it is still a deadly snake.

It is also important to note that it was none other than Professor Jonathan Moyo who sat next to Patrick Chinamasa as he announced Zanu PF had never ever blocked any reform proposals. The fact that not even one reform had been implemented in the five years of the 2008 to 2013 GNU was not Zanu PF’s fault. Of course, Chinamasa, said that with great pride for it was one of Robert Mugabe and Zanu PF’s finest hour!

The two and half years in exile have not transformed Professor Moyo from the ruthless Zanu PF’s chief propagandist and strategist who had kept Zanu PF in power from 2000 to 2017 into a human being who now sympathised with the tragic suffering ordinary people and wanted Zanu PF to go. Not at all! Like our Dotito puppy, Moyo wants Zanu PF to go so he can returned to Zimbabwe and resume his political shenanigans and intrigue from where he left off.

“ZanuPF is no longer viable to exZanla commanders; is not an option for exZipra now in charge of ZDF & was rejected by voters in the 2018 polls! What is to be done? The people & the military must find each other. The people embraced the military in Nov 2017. Now the military should make amends & embrace the people by respecting their 2018 vote for @nelsonchamisa. It’s the people who must govern, not the military!” argued Professor Moyo.

For the record, Professor Jonathan Moyo backed, morally and financially, Nelson Chamisa in the July 2018 elections. Of course, Moyo KNEW with no reforms Zanu PF will rig the July 2018 elections guaranteed and still he DID NOT advise Chamisa not to participate.

One can only assume that Professor Moyo must have believed Chamisa could still win rigged elections. If Chamisa had indeed won the rigged elections he would have wanted a cunning and ruthless advisor to show him how to take full advantage of Zimbabwe’s oppressive and dysfunctional political system. And guess who would fill that bill perfectly – Professor Jonathan Moyo.

No doubt Professor Moyo is aware that Mnangagwa and his regime and under ever increasing pressure to step down as the country’s economic meltdown gets worse. The corona virus has economic and humanitarian havoc the world over; the Zimbabwe economy was already in the gutter before the pandemic it is now sinking in the sewage without a strangle.

As long as Zimbabwe remains a pariah state ruled by corrupt, incompetent, vote rigging and murderous thugs; no one is going to help us. The pressure on Zanu PF to step down will increase as the country sinks deeper and deeper into economic abyss. Professor Moyo will fight hard to make sure “@nelsonchamisa” is the frontrunner to takeover should Zanu PF step down.

I believe Zanu PF will, in the end step down because the economic meltdown is politically and socially unsustainable. If MDC and/or Zanu PF play any part in the interim administration then it is almost certain that the democratic reforms to ensure free, fair and credible elections will not be implemented. The two parties failed to get any reforms implement during the 2008 to 2013 GNU it is naïve to think they will do any better especially with the likes of Professor Jonathan Moyo as the chief advisor!

  1. The last general to remain loyal to the late former president Robert Mugabe, Augustine Chihuri, has spoken for the first time about betrayal by one of his deputies ahead of the November 2017 coup.
He also claims he has a long-standing personal feud with President Emmerson Mnangagwa over a woman.
The revelations were made in court papers filed at the high court where Chihuri — the former commissioner general of the Zimbabwe Republic Police — is fighting the state’s intention to seize his “unexplainable wealth”, mostly held in six of his companies.
    His estimated wealth is US$32m.
“Aivamadziva avamazambuko!” (Yesterday’s feared deep pools are now shallow crossing!) as one would say in Shona.
During his reign of terror Chihuru boasted of how he used the Police to terrorised the opposition whom he called regime change agents. What he was ruthlessly defending is the status quo that allowed him and other members of the ruling elite to rob the nation blind!
What has happened in the last fifteen years, when Mugabe has given away the last former white-owned farms, is the Zanu PF thugs have started fighting for the scraps. It is, like all fights involving thugs, a no holds-barred ruthless dog-eat-dog fight.
Chihuri sneaked off to Malawi soon after the November 2017 coup, like many other Mugabe loyalists because they all knew Mnangagwa would to take away all their loot and/or kill them. This is not over until it is over!

  2. Lawyers believe these interviews formed part of an agreement between the British and Zimbabwean governments for the UK to “repatriate” 2,500 Zimbabwean nationals in return for aid money. The Home Office did not deny the allegations.

    This is cause for concern!

  3. Commenting on the issue the firebrand politician and lawyer said:
It does not make economic sense. The reason why we have a black market in the economy is not because of Ecocash or the stock exchange, it’s because we are simply not producing.
You cannot have a government that specialises in creating difficulties for its citizens. Think of the millions of people who cannot access money in banks who rely on mobile transfers.

The banning of ecocash trading does not make any sense, indeed many of this Zanu PF regime's policies do not make any sense. The regime has no clue what it is doing; this just crisis management, blundering from pillar to post. Kiya kiya.

Still, I blame Tendai Biti and his MDC friends for selling-out on reforms during the GNU. We would not be in this mess still if they had implemented the democratic reforms.

History will see Tendai Biti for what he is - a corrupt and incompetent politician who sold-out with tragic consequences to the nations. Firebrand, my foot!

  4. @ Hakata

Following MDC's failure to implement even one token reform during the 2008 to 2013 GNU many people, notably the international community and SADC deserted MDC in droves in disgust. Sadly many Zimbabweans failed to see what had happened and continued to follow MDC leaders blindly like sheep to the slaughter. It is heartening that a few Zimbabweans are finally opening their eyes and acknowledging that MDC leaders are indeed corrupt, incompetent and therefore cannot be trusted to implement the reforms to get us out of this mess!

  5. Chihuri said his problems started when he got married the "Zanu way" in Chimoio in Mozambique before the then political commissar, mayor Urimbo (late), around 1976 and the following year, his wife became pregnant.

"The current president of Zimbabwe, Mr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, was aware of this union and pregnancy. Using his position, my then-wife was transferred to Shai Shai in Mozambique where Mr Mnangagwa had a forced affair with her as she alleged," he wrote in the affidavit.

"I tried to terminate the marriage, but the political commissar threatened me not to dare to do it, citing that Mr Mnangagwa [as he then was] is a dangerous man and would behead me as he was not hesitant to kill."

Chihuri said Urimbo told him: "Do not gamble with your life, dear comrade."

Zanu PF is a party of ruthless thugs, they have been utterly ruthless in their dealings with the ordinary people and now that they are fighting each other they are showing they are just as ruthless.
What is of primary concern for the ordinary Zimbabweans is that Augustine Chihuru has said nothing to explain where he got the money to buy the amassed wealth. Knowing Mnangagwa and the Zanu PF culture of ruthlessness it is entirely possible that Mnangagwa and Matanga have done everything Chihuru is alleging here.
However after narrating all these sordid stories Chihuru has not once said Mnangagwa, Matanga or anyone else forged his signature or some such act to create the impression he was the own of the amassed wealth. He does not say the arson fire that burnt his Greystoke House destroyed the document proving how he had legally amassed his wealth. In short Chihuru’s affidavit proves Mnangagwa, Matanga and many others in Zanu PF are ruthless thugs.
We already know that Chihuru was a ruthless thug from the partisan way he conducted his duties as Police Commissioner and from the looting. His affidavit is silent of the main issue – did he loot his amassed wealth. Silence in this case is admission of guilty as charged!
Zanu PF ruling elite rob the nation blind! Look at the sorry state of our schools and hospitals they were all starved of funds, money creamed off to build the palatial mansions like Blue Roof. It is right and proper that all looted wealth must be recovered and used to rebuild the ruins created by Zanu PF!

  6. @ Our reality

Every Zimbabwean should unite and fight the illegal murderous dictatorship for restoration of rule of law, democracy and human rights. Every person has the right to change their position relative to any issue at any point in their lives. At this point in time, it is clear to all that Zimbabwe needs a legitimate government, liberation of the army, police, judiciary, parliament and other institutions from state capture. Everyone has a role to play. This is a fight for all to free their motherland

By everybody I hope you do not mean people like Nelson Chamisa and his MDC friends and Professor Jonathan Moyo here?

Nelson Chamisa and his MDC friends had the golden opportunity to implement the reforms and they have failed to implement even one reform in 20 years. They are paying lip service to reforms and we should be smart enough to see that and make sure they do not take the nation down yet another cul-de-sac.

Of all people, Jonathan Moyo knows that by failing to implement even one reform during the 2008 GNU Nelson Chamisa and his MDC friends proved beyond all doubt that they are breathtakingly corrupt and incompetent . So why is Moyo garnering for Chamisa to be Zimbabwe's next president?

The last thing Zimbabwe wants to do surely is remove a dictator only to replace him with a corrupt and incompetent sell-out, especially one we already know to be a sell-out! We want real change and not to be running round and round like a headless chicken!

  7. “The unprecedented move by Khupe and cabal to recall us from Parliament will not deter our commitment to the people’s struggle,” Chibaya said.

“This cowardly act defies logic and defeats the democratic will of the people who clearly voted for their preferred representatives in Parliament in the 2018 elections.

“We, however, remain resolute and committed to the people’s struggle and shall not sell our souls for a few pieces of silver. The liberation of the Zimbabwean masses remains our guiding compass in the democratic struggle until we deliver a people’s government under President Advocate Nelson Chamisa.”

Chibaya, together with 12 others, were recalled by Khupe from Parliament after they insisted on laying their allegiance on Chamisa and refused to follow the Supreme Court ruling that adjudged Khupe the new interim leader of MDC-T.

This just nonsense! Zanu PF has repeatedly, blatantly denying the people of Zimbabwe the basic right to a free, fair and credible elections. Chibaya and the rest knew Zanu PF was going to rig the July 2018 elections, ZEC failed to produce something as basic as a verified voters’ roll. MDC leaders participated in the elections regardless because they knew Zanu PF would be giving away a few gravy train seats to entice the opposition.

Chibaya and the rest knew that by participating they would give the process credibility as David Coltart admitted in his book following the 2013 elections.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the elections,” wrote Senator Coltart.

“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”
So for you to now be claiming virtues that you do not have, “we shall not sell our souls for a few pieces of silver,” you say when that is exactly what you did by participating in the July 2018 elections is insulting. It is bad enough you are a sell-out but, I for one, draw a line to being insulted by a sell-out!

  8. So Mnangagwa welcomes a free, fair and credible electoral process in Malawi but does not want the same for Zimbabwe. When he had his back against the wall following the November 2017 military coup, he promised free, fair and credible elections to buy himself some breathing space. He knew only village idiot bought his “this is not a coup but a military assisted transition!” Not even Justice George Cheweshe’s equally idiotic “the coup was legal, justified and constitutional” judgement cut much ice with anybody.

But when push came to shove, he blatantly rigged the July 2018 elections. His regime failed to produce even something as basic as a verified voters’ roll!

Mnangagwa rigged the 2018 election, you have no mandate to govern Zimbabwe. You are illegitimate and are holding the nation to ransom. By frustrating peaceful democratic change you have left the nation no other way but to remove you from office using violent means be it street protests or another military coup.

You hypocrite! Preaching democratic elections by day but blatantly rigging elections by night. You alone will be held responsible for all the deaths and destruction the violence you have courted will bring!

  9. "I believe Zanu PF will, in the end step down because the economic meltdown is politically and socially unsustainable," you said.

Yes Zimbabwe's economic situation is politically and socially unsustainable but getting Zanu PF to step down will not be a walk in the park. Whilst Ian Smith accept the political situation was not sustaining long before the lives of millions were on the line, the same is not true of likes of Mugabe and Mnangagwa. Zimbabwe is already is serious economic and social trouble with unemployment a shocking 90% and 34% of the population living in abject poverty, hospitals and schools all but collapsed, etc. And yet Mnangagwa has not even noticed the tragic human suffering across the land.

Mugabe boasted that Zimbabwe is "mine!" He meant it literally. Everything in the country was his including the people; to do with as he pleased and he did. He has ridden rough shod over the people denying them their freedoms and rights. Tyrants like Mugabe and Mnangagwa do not give a damn about the ordinary man, woman and child out there. They will never step down because the people are suffering and dying. Never!

Mnangagwa will have to be forced to step just like Mugabe before him!

  10. Pastor Shingi Munyeza who is a member of the Presidential Advisory Council (PAC) initiated to advise president Mnangagwa has said mocked the president’s “Zimbabwe is Open for Business” mantra.

He said instead of opening the country’s doors to the international and local investors, Zimbabwe has registered an increase in the number of human rights abuses and bad governance practices.

Did Pastor Munyeza and his fellow PAC members know that Zanu PF had rigged the July 2018 elections and that by joining the regime they were helping to prop it up? If our wise Alec pastor was as smart as he pretends to be then he should known these things and refused to be involved. Whatever good Shingi thinks he is doing by criticizing the regime now it is nothing compare to the harm his initial joining has done.

  11. “We are proud that under the leadership of the President, we are uniting all progressive forces towards achieving total economic and political empowerment and emancipation of our people together as one.

“In President ED Mnangagwa who is also the party First Secretary, the party is in safe hands and united as one.”

Chinamasa encouraged “other progressive stalwarts of the party scattered all over to come back to their home, Zanu PF and redouble our efforts towards realising the goals of the liberation struggle as encompassed in vision 2030”.

Zanu PF’s economic prosperity is a mirage ever since the country’s independence the regime has always assured the people prosperity, “Gutsa ruzhinji!” as Mugabe called it and never tire. The truth is the country’s economic fortunes have been in stead decline ever since Zanu PF got into power.
2030 is just the latest of the Zanu PF mirages to chase whilst the country sink deeper and deeper into the abyss.
The only sure way for Zimbabwe to get out of this nightmare is to demand a meaningful say in the governance of the country. Zanu PF has remained in power these last 40 years not because we the people believed in the party’s mirage but because Zanu PF rigged the elections.
Mnangagwa rigged the 2018 elections, he has no mandate to govern the country and now he is imposing this foolish new vision 2030, a new mirage. The task for the people of Zimbabwe is to demand free, fair and credible elections and put an end to this madness of chasing mirages.
