CCC MPs defy Chamisa. They're fighting like wild cats not for democracy but to keep their gravy train seats. W Mukori

In November last year Zanu PF announced that MPs and senators would get US$40 000 housing loan. Everyone knew this was not budgeted for, the recipients never asked for the loan and no one was expected to pay a single dollar back - in short, this was a bribe. The deputy ministers and ministers received US230 000 and US$ 500 000 respectively. The regime was going on an unbudgeted spending spree in preparation to the upcoming elections and was buying the silence of the country’s legislators to clear the way.

Nelson Chamisa admitted the US$40 000 housing loan to MPs and senators was a bribe and he asked his party’s legislators to refuse the bribe. They told him no. They reminded him that he and his MDC colleagues had received their bribes during the GNU and hence the reason thy failed to implement even one democratic reform in five years.

Indeed, ever since the 2008 to 2013 GNU debacle, MDC/CCC leaders have shamelessly participated in flawed elections knowing Zanu PF would rig and win the election and their participation would give SADC the excuse to grant Zanu PF legitimacy. They did not mind that as long as they got the few gravy train seats Zanu PF offered to entice the opposition to participate.

It is therefore not surprising that Nelson Chamisa was once again trying to get his elected party officials to withdraw from parliament over these Sengezo Tshabangu recalls which have cause havoc and pandemonium in the party and the officials are determined to hang on to their gravy train seats. They participated out of greed and it is for that reason that they will stay.

MDC was launched in 1999 on the promise the party would deliver the democratic changes, including the changes to stop Zanu PF rigging elections,  the nation was dying for. After 23 years, including 5 in the GNU, the party has not only failed to implement even one token change, reform, but worst of all since the GNU they have participated in flawed elections to give vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy and perpetuate the dictatorship.

Nelson Chamisa and his MDC/CCC friends lost their political moral compass during the GNU, if they had it at all, when Mugabe bribed them with the trapping of high office and they, in return throw the reforms out of the window. It is laughable how Chamisa has now and again tried to reclaim the mantra of change champion.

“Change Champion in Chief”, he calls himself in the CCC constitution he produced in the High Court. Yeah right! Change champion in chief who cannot name even one change he and the party has brought in 23 years, including 5 in the GNU!

"Chamisa had ordered a withdrawal but was told in no uncertain terms that he can't withdraw MPs who campaigned using their resources, especially after he, Chamisa, took all the donated money meant for MPs' campaigns and put it to his personal use. He was cornered; he could do anything but bow to pressure," mocked Jealousy Mawarire, the Spokesperson of the National Patriotic Front, according to a report in Bulawayo 24.

“Despite the internal turmoil and the public disclosure of the party's internal challenges, CCC spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi defended the decision of the MPs to remain in parliament in a post on X. ‘It is our considered view as the Citizens Coalition for Change that we will be more impactful speaking against and calling out the regime in parliament while also guarding our zones of autonomy rather than pulling out,’ Mkwananzi explained.

Mkwananzi reiterated the party's commitment to defending the people's vote and challenged President Mnangagwa to take the initiative if the government does not want CCC legislators in Parliament. ‘If Mr. Mnangagwa does not want our legislators in Parliament, let him expel them rather than us doing the job for him. That way, the world will know who the real enemy of democracy is. We will never give in to the regime’s machinations,’ he stated.

The internal turmoil in CCC is the result of Chamisa’s refusal to have a democratic party constitution, structure and elected officials. He wanted to return total control and power for himself. He called the policy “strategic ambiguity” although there was nothing strategic or ambiguous - this was a one-man band plain and simple.

What Sengezo Tshabangu has done was claim to be the party’s SG. He has argued that the same mucky and undemocratic process that Chamisa says elected him President of the party elected him, Sengezo, SG. There was no evidence produced in a Court of Law to prove that he was lying. Chamisa’s own strategic ambiguity has backfired on him!

Sengezo Tshabangu has used his position as SG to recall these CCC officials he and his faction do not like. He has recalled two butches already, 24 legislators and 60 local authority councillors. He has threaten to recall more.

The whole world knows that CCC leaders have been participating in these  flawed elections to give vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy out of greed. The whole world also knows that CCC officials who were recalled is an internal matter, Zanu PF has nothing to do with it, and that CCC leaders are in a life and death fight to keep their gravy train seats and the benefits that entails; it is a lie that they are fighting for democracy.

How can CCC leaders still be fighting for democracy when they traded that in for the gravy train seats a long time ago! MDC/CCC leaders have failed to implement even one token democratic reform in 23 years precisely because they have sold out on democracy, reforms and free elections. If the people of Zimbabwe want an end to this curse of rigged elections and bad governance then they must wake up to this political reality - CCC leaders are fighting for gravy train seats and not democracy!

  1. President Mnangagwa on Friday afternoon has left for Madagascar where he will attend the inauguration of President-elect, Andry Rajoelina.

Mnangagwa has taken over from where Mugabe left off in terms of travel; he is always jetting off going somewhere. Some times he makes two or three trip in one week! The country is beset by all manner of economic challenges cholera, power cuts, etc. and yet is spending billions of dollars every year of travel and Mnangagwa is probably the most travelled head of state in the whole world for the 6 th year running!

“My point ndeyekuti seyi uchingoona Chamisa chete for the past 43 years achipinda muma flawed elections ko vana professor Madhuku havasi vanhu here vari kupindamo.”

So I should not hold Chamisa to account for dragging the nation into yet another meaningless elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy out of greed. He even lied about plugging the vote rigging loop holes to entice the people to participate. “Because I have not held Madhuku to account for participating in the flawed elections,” according to you.

Is it ok for Chamisa to do because Madhuku is doing or are you saying it is bad but Chamisa must be let off the hook until all the others are held to account? Pleading that you are not the only criminal is no defence; that should be common sense!

“Truth be told ua not calling for reforms but blaming CCC for failing to carry out reforms during the gnu n participating in rigged elections. There is a difference between calling for reforms and blaming Nero for participating in elections as if he is e only one participating n forcing others to also participate.”

Do not be carried away with syntax and semantics, focus on the facts.

MDC/CCC have failed to implement even one token democratic reform in 23 years including 5 in the GNU. And they have been participating in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy out of greed.

I am pointing out these as historic facts and asking MDC/CCC to dispute them if they dare by naming the reforms. I call this holding CCC leaders to democratic account.

You call it blaming them, which is rather foolish because it implies I am falsely accusing for failing to implement the reforms when they did. You have failed to name even one reform they implemented and/or a rational explanation why they failed.

Experience has taught me that there are some people who have no respect for facts and who believe Chamisa is infallible, a demigod, and will defend him no matter what. I have no time to waste with such shallow minded morons - no rational human being who consider a mere mortal a demigod and infallible especially some one with a well documented track record of being corrupt and incompetent like Chamisa.

  4. MDC/CCC have failed to bring about even one token reform in 23 years including 5 in the GNU. We all saw the CCC MPs fighting like wild cats, refusing to be removed from parliament. We are being told that they are fighting for democracy and change. The truth is they are fighting for their gravy train seats. They stopped fighting for democracy a long time ago!

  5. CCC MPs are fighting like wild cats to keep their gravy train seats it is naive, to say the least, to think they are fighting for democracy and good governance.

Zanu PF rigged the 2023 elections there is no legitimate government in Zimbabwe so are CCC MPs fighting to remain part of an illegitimate regime. And we are to believe that is fighting for democracy!

  6. Holding those are selling out on their promise to implement the reforms and are selling out by participating in flawed elections to account. And I am also also silencing the ignorant and naive Chamisa supporters who think he is a demigod who must not be held to account. It is shocking that that anyone can be that stupid to be defending Chamisa's lies like "I plugged all the vote rigging holes"!

  7. Further intensifying the feud, Nyandoro threatened to take her revelations to social media, a move that she said would unfortunately and unwittingly expose not only Chibaya but also other CCC members.

She expressed regret that in her bid to expose Chibaya's alleged duplicity, other party members might be inadvertently implicated.

These internal conflicts come at a time when the CCC is already grappling with factional fights, following the recent recalls of legislators and councillors initiated by Tshabangu.

This latest episode of infighting underscores the deepening divisions within that party, posing a significant challenge to its unity and effectiveness in the political landscape.

CCC leaders and supporters have pushed the “self destruct” button many, many times in the past; notably in 2005 when then SG Professor Welshman Ncube broke away and 2013 SG Tendai Biti broke away too. This time they have not only pushed the button but sat on it!

    ReplyDelete
  8. This comes after Professor Ncube on Wednesday pushed back against pressure from CCC activists demanding that he speak up on the turmoil in the party, insisting that he had no platform to do so.

Writing on X (formerly Twitter), Advocate Chamisa said, "THANK YOU FELLOW CITIZENS for your full and incredible support against all odds. I salute you. They will manufacture lies to confuse and discourage you. They will write articles to discredit, vilify and malign. Will ignore their diatribe and vitriol. All said and done, and after all this, will have the last laugh. You will never regret. God has given us a season and irrevocable manifold grace. #Godisinit”

Chamisa believes that he does not need to back up anything he says or does with evidence and facts as long as evokes the name of the Lord. This is just foolish and it must be stopped.

He said CCC was going to win big the August elections. When people pointed out to him that with no reform in place, Zanu PF was once again going to rig and win these elections. “I have plugged all the vote rigging loop holes! God is in it! he insisted.

Zanu PF blatantly rigged the elections. All the election observers including AU, SADC and even Zimbabwe’s own ZHRC have all condemned the August elections as a farce. And so Chamisa dragged the nation into yet another meaningless elections so flawed and illegal the nation does not have a legitimate government today!

Chamisa had boasted of plugging all the vote rigging loop hole and yet he failed to do something as basic as deploy the election agents at all the polling stations even thought he had received the funds for this. He had lied about plugging the vote rigging loop holes to hide the real reason behind his hell bent to participate bin the flawed elections was greed.

God is in it! In what the deceit and the treasonous betrayal!

MDC/CCC have failed to implement even one democratic reform in 23 years including 5 in the GNU, the people of Zimbabwe must now wake to the reality that CCC will never deliver the democratic changes the nation has been dying for. God helps those who help themselves by doing the right thing and doing the foolish things and then evoke the name of God will not cut it!

“Chester Crocker (the former US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs) had this to say during US Senate hearings on Zimbabwe Democracy and Economic Recovery Act before it was put into law in 2002: "To separate the Zimbabwean people from ZANU PF, we are going to have to make their economy scream, and I hope you, senators, have the stomach for what you have to do. So if we were to decide to try and work for change in power in Zimbabwe, I would hope that we would have the wisdom to be discrete, to be low-key and to avoid giving those in power there the excuse that foreigners are out to get them." (Chester Crocker, 106th Congress House Hearings - Zimbabwe: Democracy on the Line - Tuesday, June 13, 2000).”

Well Chester Crocker was wrong because the Zimbabwe economy was screaming already by 2000. Zimbabwe had already gone through the two five-year (1990 to 1995 and 1995 to 2000) Economic Structural Adjustment Programmes (ESAP) to revive the economy but to no avail. The WB, IMF, Paris Club and West based international financial institution stopped giving Zimbabwe any financial assistance in 1999 because the country was up to its eyeballs in debt and was failing to service them.

Zanu PF has blamed ZDERA and the sanctions imposed by the West for the country’s economic meltdown this is purely for propaganda purposes. The primary cause of the meltdown is the gross mismanagement and the rampant corruption which were there before the sanction were imposed and have become worse and worse over the years!

  10. @ Team Pachedu

“Team Pachedu coordinator Tafadzwa 'Chambii' Sambiri has accused Chamisa of creating chaos in CCC through personalization of the party. Chambii also said CCC was formed by MDC-A's National Council but the founders of CCC were later sidelined by the ambiguous creation of the CNA.”

You are on the money Tafadzwa! This has been self evident all along, it is a great pity that many of the CCC wildebeest herd have refused to open their eyes and minds to the political reality that CCC was just a one-man band blundering from pillar to post. The herd was so foolish they believed the lie Chamisa had plugged all the vote rigging holes even when you and your Team Pachedu warned of the folly of participating in the elections without first cleaning up the shambolic voters’ roll!

Zimbabwe is in deep, deep trouble thanks to Chamisa who dragged the nation into these flawed and illegal elections. We do not have a legitimate government and the future is grime. We should not have participated in these flawed 2023 elections and now we must figure out how to get out of the mess.

    “Chamisa chete chete! Handicheuke!

No wonder the CCC herd believed such blatant lies as "I plugged all the vote rigging loop holes!" Even now with the benefit of hindsight it has still no occurred to the herd that Chamisa lied and dragged the nation into a flawed and illegal election only to give Zanu PF legitimacy.

Mankind is supposed to be a creature of reason able to think for himself/herself; in Zimbabwe we are far, far away from that! No wonder we are a failed state, we have more than our fair share of brain-dead citizens , brain washed by Change Radio idiotic slogans!

After 43 years of rigged elections, 23 years of MDC/CCC failing to bring about even one token reform, how many more years are we going to allow this insanity to continue! “Handicheuke!” So what is wrong with looking back and learning from the past?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Who was supposed to implement the reforms to stop zanu PF rigging the elections these last 23 years? Who lied that he had plugged the vote rigging holes and yet did not even deploy election agents to stop Zanu PF rigging the 2023 elections?

  13. You still have the Zanu PF mentality of if you don't like what we are doing thn take up the gun and fight. All those in public office must be accountable to the people and it is nonsense to argue that Chamisa is not accountable for lying he had plugged the vote rigging loop holes!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Zanu PF has been saying the same thing so are we to say it is ok for them to continue looting because they fought in the liberation war. Which part of all those in public office must be accountable to the people are you failing to understand?

He did get donor money to pay for election agents. Even if he did why did he lie that he had plugged all the vote rigging loop holes when he knew he had not done so?

Why are you defending him? Is it because you think he is infallible and a demigod who should not be held to account?

So we are fighting to end the Zanu PF dictatorship and busy building a new dictatorship. Even when there is overwhelming evidence that MDC/CCC is dragging the nation ever deeper into this hell-on-earth, some people are too dumb and stupid to admit it. So you think you did the nation a great favour donating money to CCC and they cannot even account for it! What a nightmare!

“NC plugged holes to win 100+ seats - no mean feat that. Would have got no seats at all had he not applied some winning strategies - one of which is the mobilisation of voters - he performed well - appealing slogans helped mobilise too. It’s a whole package of tactics

On Reforms - we have gone through this several times - pointing out that the new 2013 GNU constitution is awash with reforms - and have asked for any outstanding reforms missed or whose need has come to light after the 2013 - nothing has been brought up

Flawed election is known worldwide wide - boycott would have been an own goal and May not have produced the Zanu pf illegitimacy we have.
Zanu pf has not been given legitimacy - thanks to strategies that exposed Zanu fraudulent theatrics.”

Even if CCC had not won even a single seat, you would be singing their praise for participating. You have failed to understand that MDC failed to implement even one reform during the GNU because of greed and have been participating in flawed election to give Zanu PF legitimacy for the same reason - greed!

As I said before some people have made up their mins that MDC/CCC leaders are infallible demigods who have done nothing wrong and will sing their praises to kingdom come!

What is the use boasting of the new constitution when it has clearly failed to deliver free and fair elections.

Mnangagwa is already in his third presidential term and is set to get a fourth term!

Chamisa insisted in participating in the 2018 elections claiming that MDC A had “stringent measures to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections.”

We also know that MDC leaders failed to implement even one token reform in five years of the GNU! What is the excuse then?

So You think MDC/CCC is fighting to end the Zanu PF dictatorship by failing to implement even one reform in 5 years of the GNU and by participating in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy? Even after 23 years including 5 in GNU with nothing to show for it and still the herd believes CCC will deliver change!

No wonder we are a failed state and with such a naive and gullible electorate we are doomed! Mind you, Chasi, I am not blaming you and the rest of the herd; you are what you are!

If you want that of Chamisa, then go ahead stopping criticism. Otherwise, he is the leader not me or you, so we criticise the leader. The bucks stops with the leader.”

It is shocking that all these owls believe in democracy and democratic accountable and yet believe Chamisa is infallible and must not be held to democratic account. How anyone with a track record like Chamisa can be considered infallible beggars belief!

  24. Who is responsible for Zimbabwe's economic meltdown; Zanu PF who are the ruling party or CCC, the opposition?

A little learning is indeed a very dangerous thing because only one drunk from the sip from Pierian Spring would still hold such a naive, idiotic and nauseatingly simplistic view of Zimbabwe's problem.

Zanu PF is still the ruling party because it rigs elections. The right question is why is Zanu PF still able to rig elections after 23 years, 5 of which in the GNU, of electing MDC/CCC whose primary task was to stop Zanu PF rigging elections.

Zanu PF would have lost the elections to a troop of monkeys as far back as 2000 if the elections were free, fair and credible. No wonder we are a failed state, we cannot even ask the right question!!!!

  25. One of the good things that has served SA well is freedom of expression.

Can you imagine any one in Zanu PF saying such things to Robert Mugabe or the buffoon who took over from him, Mnangagwa!!!! In Zimbabwe one is not only afraid of speaking the truth about Zanu PF but the opposition too has its thugs who will stop at nothing to silence you. At present Chamisa's thugs will attack you on social media, they will no doubt throw the critics in jail just as Zanu PF is doing if they ever got into power.

Zanu PF labels its critics western puppets and the opposition labels them Zanu PF projects. In a country where the truth, evidence and facts count for nothing the line between a free citizen and enemy is invisible, it is where those in power say it is.
