2023 elections are free "Musoro wambuya vako!" said Mnangagwa in pre-emptive strike. He is rigging and knows it. W Mukori

"We are one of the most peaceful countries on the continent,” Mnangagwa told Miners4ED members in Gweru.

"We are a peaceful country, we are united and we are democratic. Not even a single (foreign) country can teach us about democracy because we know it and we fought for it."

He said Zimbabwe was a sovereign country and foreigners should not interfere with its internal affairs. “Musoro yambuya vako!” (Your grand mother’s big head!) he could not resist adding the gratuitous insult.

The truth is Zimbabwe is no more democratic than the Democratic Republic of North Korea.

Zanu PF nationalist leaders said they were fighting to end white colonial oppression and exploitation, for freedom, liberty, one man one vote, etc., etc. The black majority in the country agreed and they played their part. But by the time the nation held the 1980 elections to usher in independence it was clear Zanu PF had been fighting to remove the white oppressors but only to take their place.

Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF cronies made it clear that if the party did not win the 1980 elections, the bush war would continue. Of course, the people voted to end the war and thus kissed goodbye to “one man one vote!”

Three years after the country’s independence Mugabe launched the Gukurahundi Massacre whose primary purpose was to force the now late Dr Joshua Nkomo and his PF Zapu to sign the Unity Accord with Zanu PF paving the way for the imposition of the de facto one-party dictatorship that has ruled the country to this day.

Zanu PF is rigging these 2023 elections just as it rigged the 2018 and the rest going all the way back 1980. The EU send a high powered 246 strong 2018 Election Observer Mission team. And the reported what the witnessed on the ground, unlike the SADC team, for example, who chose to falsify the situation to appease Zanu PF.

“The right to an effective legal remedy was not adequately provided for, there is no equal suffrage and shortcomings in the registration of voters somewhat compromised universal and equal suffrage. Notably, major shortcomings in the pre-election environment impacted on the free expression of the will of electors, state resources were misused in favour of the incumbent and coverage by state media was heavily biased in favour of the ruling party,” stated the 2018 EU Observer Mission final report.

“Further, the electoral commission lacked full independence and appeared to not always act in an impartial manner. The final results as announced by the Electoral Commission contained numerous errors and lacked adequate traceability, transparency and verifiability.

“Finally, the restrictions on political freedoms, the excessive use of force by security forces and abuses of human rights in the post-election period undermined the corresponding positive aspects during the pre-election campaign. As such, many aspects of the 2018 elections in Zimbabwe failed to meet international standards.”

The EU Observer Mission final report made 23 reform recommendation to bring Zimbabwe elections to accepted international standards. Not even one token reform was implemented. Not a sausage!

The EU has accepted the invitation to send an Election Observer team for these 2023 elections. With not even one reform recommendation in place, it is certain the team will condemn these elections as farce too. Mnangagwa knows that and hence his irrational irritation “Musoro yambuya vako!” He knows what is coming and has to throw his pre-emptive punch!

What Mnangagwa is saying is he accepts all the rules and standards governing the holding of free, fair and credible elections as long as Zanu PF, as the political party that spearheaded the liberation war, is allowed to do whatever the party considers necessary to retain power. In other words Zimbabweans are allowed to exercise their freedoms and rights including the right to a free and democratic vote as long as none of it threatens Zanu PF’s hold on power.

According to Mnangagwa Zimbabweans can exercise their right to free, fair and credible elections as long as that does not result in regime change. Of course, this is nonsense; “ a meaningful say in the governance of one’s country”, according to the UN Universal Human Rights Declaration, included regime change.

After 43 years of being short changed it is high time the people of Zimbabwe stood firm in their demand for full implementation of the democratic reforms, to guarantee free, fair and credible elections. We cannot stop these flawed 2023 elections going ahead, both Zanu PF and CCC are hell bent on participating for their own selfish reasons.

What we can do is denounce the election process for being flawed and illegal. SADC will use our silence as an excuse to endorse the process as “substantially free and fair” and grant Zanu PF political legitimacy. Zimbabwe is a failed state precisely because the nation has been stuck with this corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship for 43 years. We could not have regime change because Zanu PF rigged elections.

We desperately need to cure ourselves of this curse of rigged elections and bad governance. Making sure that Zanu PF does not get legitimacy after 23 August 2023 elections is the first step to curing ourselves of rigged elections and failed state.

  1. At least 20 aspiring Members of Parliament (MPs) in Bulawayo failed to submit their nomination papers last week, as they could not raise the required US$ 1000 fees.

Zimbabwe is holding harmonised elections in August this year.

"…Some of them failed to file as they could not raise the nomination fees and those were more than 20.Some failed because they did not have nominators and they went and never came back," Innocent Ncube

Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) Bulawayo provincial elections told journalists this week.

"Some also failed because their papers were not signed by their designated party members as required by the law. Those who had incomplete nomination papers were about 18."

Candidates vying for the presidential post were paying US$20 000 nomination fee and submitted their papers at the High Court in Harare.

These elections are not free, fair and credible. How can they be when there is not even a verified voters’ roll. The opposition candidates know this but are participating regardless out of greed.

“The (2013) electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility,” confessed Coltart in his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe.

Ever since the GNU debacle MDC/CCC have been running with the povo hare but hunting with the Zanu PF hounds. The people of Zimbabwe have been slow to wake up to this political reality and until they do there will be no meaningful change. Zimbabwe is already a failed state and will continue to sink into the abyss.

Of course, you are aware that Zanu PF is rigging these elections, ZEC has failed to produce something as basic as a verified voters’ roll, but you lot are participating regardless. You were going to participate no matter what!

Zimbabwe is a failed state because of greed. Neither Zanu PF nor MDC/CCC leaders have even the common sense much less principles to do the right and logical thing - implement reforms and save the nation yet another meaningless election to perpetuate the suffering of the people.

“ZanuPF will buy state of the art vehicles for its candidates. CCC government will make sure there are state of the art ambulances for everyone who is sick.!!!!!!”

Zanu PF is rigging these elections and you are participating to give the regime legitimacy for the sake of the few gravy train seats. Now that you are on the list of CCC senators for Masvingo you are so fired up you are stone deaf to everything except “CCC is winning big!” And no doubt, you are already shopping around for the model of vehicle you will buy with the US$ 80 000 car allowance.

What the people of Zimbabwe must know is the nation is stuck with this Zanu PF dictatorship because MDC/CCC failed to implement reforms even when they had the chance to do so. And now Chamisa and company are giving Zanu PF legitimacy and thus perpetuating the people’s suffering of they will never do the logical thing and demand reforms before elections.

“Kasukuwere has bought 70 top of the range twin cab trucks for his election campaign.”

If he was elected into office, Kasukuwere will not stamp out corruption but rather take up from where he left when he was booted out of office in the 2017 military coup. (Since the passing of the patriotic bill it is a crime to call the 2017 military coup, a coup. You are supposed to “love you country” and calling it a military assisted transition proves you love your country!)

43 years of rampant corruption has created a filthy rich ruling elite and they will be using their ill-gotten wealth to ensure the country’s political system serves their interests above all else. Elections in Zimbabwe have become an extremely expensive affair in which only the super rich can afford or must be backed by one and he who pays the piper calls the tune.

There cannot be any meaningful democratic change without implementing the democratic reforms which, in part, must address the problem of recovering the looted wealth. The filthy rich will not allow a competent government to implement the reform to emerge. We have the chicken and the egg situation; which comes first!

The 2008 to 2013 GNU was the golden opportunity to implement the democratic reforms and MDC leaders wasted it. And the nation has paid dearly for that! Making sure that Zanu PF does not get legitimacy this August will create an opportunity for a new GNU. That is proving to be a bridge too far, CCC’s participation out of greed is giving Zanu PF legitimacy.

“The GNU period was 5 years. Only 1 Term. So what significant changes were you expecting. After laying down the ground work the term was ending without extension. Even if they want to reform the process was going to be overtaken by events. So why are you accusing MDC or CCC. Also let's face facts, how much time have you been hauling on this platform but nothing has changed. You have even failed to bring an any Ideological change. Now u are talking of failing when you have failed yourself. Wise up and smell coffee. This time.the odd one is going happen.”

The democratic reforms could have been implemented in 18 months, given the political will, and the Global Political Agreement had allowed for 18 months. The GNU lasted five years, 60 months, and still not even one token reform was implemented.

“The GNU period was 5 years. Only 1 Term. So what significant changes were you expecting. After laying down the ground work the term was ending without extension.” This only shows you have no clue what you are wittering about, even now with the benefit of hindsight!

Not even one reform was implemented because Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends were and still are corrupt and breathtakingly incompetent. Wanted the GNU extended! Will that have cured MDC leaders’ greed and incompetence?

Indeed CCC are participating in these flawed elections knowing fully well that doing so will give Zanu PF legitimacy for the same reasons - greed and incompetence! Here is David Coltart saying the same thing!

“The (2013) electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. They cannot just deny citizens right to elect a government as stipulated in our constitution.”

If you think the 2018 elections were free, fair and credible, even now with the benefit of hindsight, then you are beyond the pale. There is a mountain of evidence to prove the elections were rigged but none of that evidence mean anything to you, it might as well be in Chinese of Greek.

There is no point in explaining to you why CCC or the public should boycott the elections. If you have failed to understand what constitutes free and fair elections you will NOT understand the need to boycott elections. If you have failed understand simple arithmetic it is naive to expect you to comprehend the complexities of geometry, algebra and calculus.

Just remember that just because you have no clue what constitutes free, fair and credible elections does not mean Zimbabwean elections are free and fair. Zanu PF is rigging these elections in many ways that you will never ever understand. Never ever!

After 43 years of Zanu PF Mafiosi rigging elections, it is as clear as day that Zanu PF is rigging these elections and, most significantly, that you participate only to give legitimacy to Zanu PF. If all you are doing by participating in give Zanu PF legitimacy, it is irrational to then argue that “boycotting won’t work”!

Won’t work for Zanu PF, yes, because it needs political legitimacy. It won’t work for CCC leaders because they are after the few gravy train seats on offer.

“The (2013) electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. The ordinary Zimbabweans get nothing out of participating other than perpetuating the dictatorship and their own suffering. “I read full report from observers. I will take their word. Doubt the rigging word was mentioned but ways of improving our system.”

I am sure you read the 2018 EU Observer Mission final report but clearly did not understand a thing!

"The right to an effective legal remedy was not adequately provided for, there is no equal suffrage and shortcomings in the registration of voters somewhat compromised universal and equal suffrage. Notably, major shortcomings in the pre-election environment impacted on the free expression of the will of electors, state resources were misused in favour of the incumbent and coverage by state media was heavily biased in favour of the ruling party," stated the 2018 EU Observer Mission final report.

"Further, the electoral commission lacked full independence and appeared to not always act in an impartial manner. The final results as announced by the Electoral Commission contained numerous errors and lacked adequate traceability, transparency and verifiability.

If the “final results as announced by the Electoral Commission contained numerous errors and lacked adequate traceability, transparency and verifiability”, for example; would you say the result was a free, fair and credible?

If the process “failed to meet international standards” for free, fair and credible elections; you will still say they were free, fair and credible because the report did not use the word “rigged”.

No wonder Zimbabwe is a failed state, we really have some naive and gullible people! You choose to close your eyes and mind to the truth and there is nothing the election observers and the international community can do for you!

Zimbabweans have participated in flawed elections for 43 years now only to give Zanu PF legitimacy and sink the nation deeper and deeper into the abyss. The smartest thing Mugabe did during the GNU was to con MDC leaders into believing the MDC could win the next elections with not even one token reform in place.

MDC/CCC leaders have participated in flawed elections since the GNU debacle to give Zanu PF legitimacy out of greed. They would not admit this to their naive and gullible followers and so came up with the claim the party has winning in rigged elections strategies (wires). All hot air of course but try telling that to the brain dead Zimbabwe public.

When MDC failed to implement even one meaningful reform during the GNU the part’s international supporters deserted them in droves including the financial backers. Ever since, MDC/CCC has relied on the diaspora and, I have no doubt, clandestine Zanu PF funding. Zanu PF needs the opposition for its political legitimacy and it has the financial clout to bankroll such a scheme just as it bribes and controls everything in the country!

Zanu PF will not want the opposition to boycott elections and so the opposition will never boycott the elections. Never!

Is there a time when the election process is so flawed and so illegal that boycotting is the only logical option? Is there is such a time, what will have happened?

Zimbabwe has reached that thrust hold and yet continues to participate out of greed as Coltart readily admitted.

  22. Zimbabwe's main opposition CCC leader Nelson Chamisa says his party will cover all the 12 000 polling stations across the length and breath of the country in a bid to prevent rigging of the 23 August elections by Zanu PF, which is notorious for stealing results.

Chamisa is a seasoned pathological liar. In the 2018 elections when he was pressured to explain why MDC A was insisting on participating in the elections without even one token reform in place. It was clear that Zanu PF was rigging the elections.

“MDC A has stringent measures to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections,” Chamisa insisted.

Now Chamisa admits that the party did not have election agents in 544 polling station out of 11 600 or 4.7%. So Zanu PF was left to do as it damn well pleased with the votes counts in 544 stations.

When ZEC announced the election results:

    Chamisa: 2,147,437 – 44.3%
    Mnangagwa: 2,460,463 – 50.8%

“MDC A had stringent measures to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections!” Yeah right! The party did not even have the money to ensure Zanu PF did not submit fictitious vote counts.

Ever since the 2008 to 2013 GNU debacle MDC lost all its international backers, when the party failed to implement even one reform. The financial backers particularly deserted the party in droves. CCC is now relying on the generosity of Zimbabweans in diaspora, the same people the party let down by doing nothing to implement the necessary reforms to secure the diaspora vote.

The bottom line: CCC knows that Zanu PF is rigging these elections and the party does not have even enough money to ensure there are election agents at all the 12 000 Polling Stations! These elections will be a repeat of the 2018 and CCC is participating out of greed to give legitimacy to Zanu PF. We are just going round and round in circles; Chamisa is lying about CCC winning big and we are stuck!

  23. The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has finally responded to a letter from the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) over the issue of double candidates.

CCC says forty-one (41) individuals fraudulently filed nomination papers as members of the party.

20 of the “fraudsters” filed nomination papers for National Assembly seats while the other 21 individuals filed for local authority seats.

Chamisa said CCC was not going to make public who its winning candidates in the elections would be for fear Zanu PF would intimidate them. Why the party did not notify the winning individuals themselves two days or less before nomination day, it is not clear.

So the problem of double candidates or worse, some people failed to submit their nomination papers because they did not have the time to do so, was Chamisa’s strategic ambiguity back firing!

Zanu PF is rigging these elections and CCC's claim of winning big is just a lie. By participating CCC is giving Zanu PF legitimacy and thus perpetuating the dictatorship. This is just a nightmare!

  24. Government has blatantly told the European Union to “observe” and not “monitor” the August 23 general elections as the two signed an agreement that will pave the way for the latter to deploy more than 150 observers under strict conditions.

“I want to say the government of Zimbabwe is inviting all entities to come and observe the harmonised elections. The teams are however reminded that their purpose is solely to observe, not to monitor the election process,” said Murwira.

The 2018 EU Observer team was under the same condition of observers and not monitors. The team’s final report was very clear, the process was a farce.

“Further, the electoral commission lacked full independence and appeared to not always act in an impartial manner. The final results as announced by the Electoral Commission contained numerous errors and lacked adequate traceability, transparency and verifiability,” stated the final report.

“Finally, the restrictions on political freedoms, the excessive use of force by security forces and abuses of human rights in the post-election period undermined the corresponding positive aspects during the pre-election campaign. As such, many aspects of the 2018 elections in Zimbabwe failed to meet international standards.”

The report made 23 reform recommendations to bring the election process to accepted international standards. Not even one reform has seen the light of day. Some of the blatant vote rigging is already taking place. ZEC has failed to produce a verified voters’ roll, for example. EU is bound to condemn these 2023 election as a farce too because nothing has change from 2018!

“Nonsense of a video , win what Zanu Pf , if it doesn’t rig it wins fokolo. The good thing is the people of Zimbabwe now know the cause of the wide spread suffering in Zimbabwe. Aside of the people directly benefiting from Zanu Pf nobody sane will vote for Zanu PF.”

The point is Zanu PF IS RIGGING these elections and you lot know this and have known it all along!

MDC/CCC have failed to implement even one democratic reform in 23 years, 5 of which in the GNU, and now they are participating in these flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy for the sake of 30 pieces of silver. All this claim that CCC is winning 2023 elections big is just hot air! Zimbabwe cannot afford to let this insanity to continue!

Zanu PF is rigging these elections and CCC are participating in these elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy for the sake of 30 pieces of silver - this is the single most important message you need to know!
