Chamisa expecting to win big 2023, #Godisinit, but refuse to implement even one token reform just like Achebe's Unoka W Mukori

How do you expect political change in these 2023 elections when nothing, absolutely nothing, has changed since the 2018 rigged elections? It really beggars belief that the whole nation is being dragged into this utterly meaningless charade at the very time when we are in deep economic trouble, we are a failed state for Pete’s sake, and desperate to end this nightmare.

I have often wondered how frustrated the young boy Okonkwo must have felt when his father would not take the advice “to work like man” and thus condemning the family to hunger and poverty.

“Many years ago when Okonkwo was still a boy his father Unoka, had gone to consult Agbala. The priestess in those days was a woman called Chika. She was full of power of her god, and she was greatly feared. Unoka stood before her and began his story,” wrote Chinua Achebe, in his book Things Fall Apart.

“’Every year,’ he said sadly, ‘before I put any crop in the earth, I sacrifice a cock to Ani, the owner of all land. It is the law of our fathers. I also kill a cock at the shrine of Ifejioku, the god of yams. I clear the bush and set fire to it when it is dry. I sow the yams when the first rains has fallen, and stake them when the young tendrils appear. I weed –‘

‘Hold your peace!’ screamed the priestess, her voice terrible as it echoed through the dark void. ‘You have offended neither the gods nor your fathers. And when a man is at peace with his gods and his ancestors, his harvest will be good or bad according to the strength of his arm.

‘You Unoka, are known in all the clan for the weakness of your machete and your hoe. When your neighbours go out with their axe to cut down virgin forests, you sow your yams on exhausted farms that take no labour to clear. They cross seven rivers to make their farms, you stay home and offer sacrifice to a reluctant soil.

‘Go home and work like a man!’”

Zimbabwe is a failed state, a pariah, ruled by corrupt, incompetent and murderous Zanu PF thugs who believe they, as the men and women who spearheaded the fight to end white colonial oppression, have the right to rule the country. They have rigged elections ever since the country’s independence in 1980 to secure their claim. Their claim to power is such they would rather see the whole country burnt to ashes than see some one else rule.

After 43 years of gross mismanagement, rampant corruption and brazen lawlessness, Zimbabwe is in economic ruins, a pariah state and already 49% of our people are living in abject poverty. Zanu PF’s wish to burn down the country to ashes has started in earnest.

The nation has had many opportunities to end the Zanu PF dictatorship with the best chance coming during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. The task of implementing the democratic reforms were entrusted to opposition MDC/CCC  party (Unoka) led by Morgan Tsvangirai then and Nelson Chamisa now. MDC failed to implement even one token reform in five years. Not even one!

When the SADC leaders, who were the guarantor of the agreement that gave birth to the GNU, realised that no meaningful reforms had been implemented they wanted the 2013 elections postponed until reforms were in place. “If you go into the elections next month, you will lose. The elections are done!” they warned Tsvangirai and his errant MDC fiends to their faces.

Just like Unoka, MDC paid no heed to the sound advice and Zanu PF went on to blatantly rig the 2013 elections, as SADC leaders had predicted. MDC went on to participate in the 2018 elections with no reforms and, once again, Zanu PF rig the elections to retain its iron grip on power. The gross mismanagement, rampant corruption and brazen lawlessness continued dragging the nation deeper and deeper into economic poverty and despair.

The EU send a 246 member strong Election Observer Team and they condemned the 2018 Zimbabwe elections as a farce.

“The right to an effective legal remedy was not adequately provided for, there is no equal suffrage and shortcomings in the registration of voters somewhat compromised universal and equal suffrage. Notably, major shortcomings in the pre-election environment impacted on the free expression of the will of electors, state resources were misused in favour of the incumbent and coverage by state media was heavily biased in favour of the ruling party,” states the EU Observer Mission final report.

“Further, the electoral commission lacked full independence and appeared to not always act in an impartial manner. The final results as announced by the Electoral Commission contained numerous errors and lacked adequate traceability, transparency and verifiability. Finally, the restrictions on political freedoms, the excessive use of force by security forces and abuses of human rights in the post-election period undermined the corresponding positive aspects during the pre-election campaign. As such, many aspects of the 2018 elections in Zimbabwe failed to meet international standards.”

The EU Election Observer final report made 23 reform recommendations which, implemented, would bring Zimbabwe’s elections to acceptable international standards. It was for the erratic MDC/CCC to push for the implementation of the reform. They were not even paying attention.

Nelson Chamisa and his now rebranded CCC team have given up on implementing democratic reforms to ensure free and fair elections in favour of an endless string of Winning In Rigged Elections Strategies (WIRES). Yesterday, 21 June 2023, CCC and the rest in the opposition camp submitted their nomination paper to signify their official entry into the 2023 elections although ZEC has failed to produce something as basic as the verified voters’ roll.

Yes Unoka (CCC) has sacrificed a cock to Ani (#Godisinit) and plant the yams on exhausted farms that take no labour to clear (entered the 2023 elections without even a token democratic reform implemented). And he is expecting bumper harvest (to win big)! I know exactly how Okonkwo felt!

Zimbabweans are expecting CCC to win big on 23 August although the nation has done nothing to stop Zanu PF rigging elections. After 43 years of Zanu PF Mafiosi blatantly rigging elections and it is rigging these elections! Of course, this is insane.

Of course, nothing will change and the nation will continue to suffer and rightly so too. If we want good governance then we must implement the democratic reforms just as Unoka had to ‘Go home and work like a man!’

  1. A SURVEY by a civil society organisation, the Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development (Zimcodd), has revealed the continued dilapidation of the country's health facilities, with most district hospitals in a state of disrepair.

Zimbabwe's healthcare, riddled by dilapidating infrastructure, has largely been on a freefall, prompting patients to seek medical attention outside the country.

In a public resource management situation for April 2023 released this month, Zimcodd revealed that a paltry 4% of 57 districts surveyed have good healthcare facilities, with the majority (85%) reporting poor medical facilities.

Zanu PF thugs believe they have the absolute right to govern Zimbabwe by virtue of the party spearheaded the country’s fight to end white colonial oppression. They claim to power is absolute and hence the reason the party has ridden roughshod over the people denying their freedoms and rights including the right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country.

Zanu PF thugs would rather burn down the country than see anyone else rule and after 43 years to corrupt and tyrannical misrule the country is in economic ruins and political paralysis. 49% of the population now live in abject poverty. Zimbabwe is a failed state and Zanu PF is getting its wish to burn down the country.

  2. CONFUSION and chaos characterised opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party's nomination process at the Harare Magistrate Court.

The party's nomination finalization was still on going after lunch time despite the court's 1600hrs closing time.

Confusion rocked the candidates selection process with some candidates confirming to have filed nomination papers with the court despite claims by the party's spokesperson, Fadzayi Mahere, that there were some challenges pertaining to signatories required in the procedure.

These elections should not be going ahead without even a token reform implemented. The 2018 elections were rigged and without reforms so will these 2023 elections.

The number one reason Zimbabwe is a failed state and our people are living in abject poverty is because we have failed to hold free, fair and credible elections. It is an outrage that after 43 years we are still failing to hold free and fair elections!

MDC/CCC have failed to implement even one democratic reform in the last 23 years, 5 of which in the GNU. They are participating in these flawed elections to perpetuate the Zanu PF dictatorship in return for a share of the spoils of power.

MDC/CCC are running with the povo hare and hunting with the Zanu PF hounds. We need to wake up to this reality!

  3. PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa's chief election officer and Justice minister Ziyambi Ziyambi has said aspiring presidential candidates complaining about the US$20 000 nomination fees are unfit to lead Zimbabwe and will steal once in office.

This follows an outcry over the exorbitant candidates nomination fees which parties like ZAPU and EFF Zimbabwe failed to raise, bowing out of the race.

Ziyambi was addressing the media soon after filing Mnangagwa's nomination papers at the High Court, Wednesday.

The cabinet minister added that the presidency required a financially stable person and struggling to raise the ‘small' amount showed one will steal if voted into power.

"If you want to be trusted with the affairs of a country and then cry over US$20 000  it shows you are not serious.

"Rights and responsibilities go hand in hand. If you need this big job you really have to be financially stable.

Mnangagwa is able to pay his own US$20 000 presidential nomination fee, US$210 000 for all Zanu PF parliamentary candidate nomination fees, buy @ candidate a US$60 000 twin cab, etc., etc. from one month of his share of the Gold Mafia activities alone!

Now that corruption has taken root in Zimbabwe uprooting it is going to be a big challenge because those behind the wholesale looting will have the vast resources to buy political influence one way or the other even f the exorbitant nomination fees were abolished. Even after Grace Mugabe and her fellow G40 members were booted out of office after the 2017 coup, their political influence has continued to be felt through they economic muscle!

The exorbitant nomination fees must be abolished. In a country where a teach earns US$100 pm it is ridiculous that anyone should be asked to pay US$ 1 000 nomination fee to be a parliamentary candidate. Public life should not be the exclusive domain of the filthy rich alone!

  4. Zanu PF thugs' claim to power is uncompromising and insatiable they would rather burn down the country than let anyone else rule. The country is in ruins and millions are living in abject poverty and still their hunger for power is as fierce as ever!

  5. Meanwhile, the list of wards that were missed includes:
    Chirumanzu constituency wards 3, 4, 10, 11, 12, 16, 18, 19, 22, 23
    Marondera ward 9
    Chegutu East ward 17
    Gwanda urban ward 1 & 2
    Mhondoro ward 9 & 13
Mberengwa RDC only ward one out of 37 had no candidate
Bulilima 2 wards out of 22 had no candidate
Zibagwe 7 wards had no candidates

For the record CCC or any other opposition parties should not be participating in these elections without first implementing the democratic reforms designed to stop Zanu PF rigging elections. Zanu PF rigged the 2018 elections and with no reforms in place, the party will likewise rig these 2023 elections. It real is insane to be repeating the same foolish mistake over and over again!

  6. Kasukuwere is just a ruthless thug that any one would even consider him for president goes to show just how desperate the people are. Desperate people do desperate things! In 2017 the nation thought Mnangagwa a hero because they were desperate to see the back of Mugabe and now they are so desperate they would consider Kasukuwere, who wants to continue Mugabe’s legacy of corruption and tyranny, a hero.

What the people of Zimbabwe need to do is accept the present political system will never produce a competent and accountable government. And the thing to do right now is to stop participating in these flawed and illegal elections whose outcome is to give legitimacy Zanu PF and perpetuate the dictatorship. They must denounce the flawed process and make sure Zanu PF does not get legitimacy.

Deny Zanu PF legitimacy and the country will be forced to have a new GNU. This time the nation must make sure the democratic reforms are implemented and the nation will be back on a democratic footing. This is the solution and there is no other way out of this mess! We must stop recycling thugs!

"So they fear that they can lose the elections? Which means the opposition is giving them heart attacks, it’s not just a walk over for ZANU poo 💩, the battle will be fought on the ballot paper."

Don't worry you are one of those who have failed to understand that there is a difference between free and fair elections and rigged elections; to you there are one and the same. Even after 43 years of rigged elections you are still failing to see there is something wrong here. No doubt, you will admit the elections were rigged on 24 August before falling back on your default position for the purpose of the next elections!

  8. @ Chris

Those who will not learn from the past are doom to repeat the same foolish mistakes over and over again. We had the chance to end the Zanu PF dictatorship during the GNU MDC failed to implement even one reform. We should have learned that MDC leaders are incompetent. We did not. And now the same individuals are leading us into meaningless elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy so buffoons like Mnangagwa can remain in power!

The nation has risked all to elect MDC/CCC to remove Zanu PF. If we are serious about removing Zanu PF we must first acknowledge the people we elected to do this have failed and find others who would. If you have the wrong tool change the tool and try again and not to be wasting time trying the wrong tool!

  9. The bottom line is Zanu PF is rigging these election. Zanu PF rigged the 2018 elections and with not even one token reform implemented since then, the party is certain to repeat the rigging. CCC claims to have Winning In Rigged Elections Strategies (WIRES), all hot air.

It really is shocking that after 43 years after independence, in this day and age, we are still failing to hold free, fair and credible elections. MDC/CCC have failed to implement even one democratic reform in 23 years, 5 of which in the GNU. First we were stuck with Zanu PF rigging elections and now we are stuck with CCC who are not giving Zanu PF legitimacy and thus perpetuating the dictatorship.

  10. @ Ibbo

“An audit of the country’s pre-election environment through a series of election policy discussions on every aspect of the electoral process came to unanimously negative conclusions. It pointed out that many recommendations from international observers from the 2018 elections had been ignored, as had most of the recommendations by the Election Resource Centre and the Zimbabwe Election Support Network. But it cannot be business as usual.”

It is a great tragedy here is that although many Zimbabweans out there have known all along that the country was not going anywhere without implementing the reforms. Sadly, they have said nothing because both Zanu PF and the many opposition parties wanted the elections to go ahead.

Zanu PF rigged the 2018 elections and with not even a token reform in place the party is rigging these 2023 elections. This is insane!

  11. The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) maintains it did not field double candidates at the nomination court on Wednesday ahead of August 23's elections, instead the party says over a dozen National Assembly candidates purporting to be standing on its ticket forged signatures.

CCC leader Nelson Chamisa has vowed legal action to have the unofficial candidates removed from the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission's final candidate list.

Chamisa said the double candidate controversy was "a huge scam" designed to confuse voters.

"Our teams have just been to ZEC to inspect the submitted nominations. It's clear that the so-called ‘double candidates' forged signatures and the CCC logo. Our CCC logo is embossed and not a photocopy as is the case with the ‘double candidates.' In addition, those nominations were not countersigned for by the designated officials of CCC," he tweeted on Thursday.

"It's clearly a sting operation! We will explore the remedies available at law which enjoin ZEC to resolve this matter. We are pursuing this remedy with immediacy and urgency necessary.”

There is no doubt that there would nothing Zanu PF thugs would love more than to sow chaos and confusion in CCC ranks but how much of this chaos and confusion is home made? How much of Chamisa’s so called policy of strategic ambiguity is so ambiguous that even Chamisa himself does not know what it means, he is totally confused!

So instead of CCC standing for Citizen Coalition for Change it now stands for Chamisa (since this is really all about him) Chaos and Confusion.

When Chamisa and company failed to implement even one token reform during the 2008 to 2013 GNU the nation should have realised there and then that these MDC/CCC are corrupt and hopelessly incompetent. The nation should have dumped the lot there and then. We did not and now these failed leaders are the mile stone round the nation’s neck dragging us deeper and deeper into the abyss.

  12. There will be 11 presidential candidates in the Zimbabwe presidential rat race. It is a rat race because the process is so flawed the rational thing would be not to participate until reforms are implemented. All opposition candidate know Zanu PF is rigging and they also know by participating they will give Zanu PF legitimacy. Zanu PF is offering the cut of the Political Party Finance Act for any who win 5% plus of the votes and/or the POLAD freebies for rest of the losing candidates. It is these bribes the opposition candidates are after.

The opposition have given up on the national agenda of reforms and free elections for 30 pieces of silver. This is the reality the people with their binary mentality must grapple with if we are ever to return to the reform agenda.

  14. Tyson Saviour Kasukuwere knows that Mnangagwa is rigging these elections and is giving away the few gravy train seats plus the POLAD freebies to the opposition to entice them to participate to give the process credibility and him legitimacy. Kasukuwere has thrown his hat in this rat race and will give Mnangagwa the political legitimacy by publicly endorsing the election was free, fair and credible but is not interested in what Mnangagwa is offering the other contestants. He is naming his own price!

Kasukuwere wants Mnangagwa to promise him that he will not be arrested or harassed in any way now and in the future and all his looted wealth such as mansions, farms, business interests and cash returned to him. He wants SADC leaders will witness and be the guarantor of this.

Salome, King Herod’s step daughter, named her price; the head of John The Baptist in a silver platter!

“What would you want with a head of a man?” asked King Herod.

“To look at it!” answered Salome.

Tyson in an official candidate in the presidential rat race, that is now confirmed, and the seasoned Zanu PF thug is naming his price for being in the rat race. It is too late to stop him joining the race and so all eyes are on Mnangagwa to grant Kasukuwere all his demands! He will grant all the demands!
