"EU welcomes invitation to observe 2023 elections." Yeah, for purpose of yet another academic report! W Mukori

“The EU warmly welcomes the invitation from the Government of Zimbabwe to observe the harmonised elections of 2023 in Zimbabwe.

“This invitation clearly demonstrates the trust, cooperation, and partnership between Zimbabwe and the EU,” said EU ambassador to Zimbabwe, Jobst von Kirchmann, on twitter.

Yeah but send the Observer Team for what purpose and end? The EU send a high powered 246 strong team for the 2018 elections and their report was completely ignored.

“The right to an effective legal remedy was not adequately provided for, there is no equal suffrage and shortcomings in the registration of voters somewhat compromised universal and equal suffrage. Notably, major shortcomings in the pre-election environment impacted on the free expression of the will of electors, state resources were misused in favour of the incumbent and coverage by state media was heavily biased in favour of the ruling party,” stated the 2018 EU Observer Mission final report.

“Further, the electoral commission lacked full independence and appeared to not always act in an impartial manner. The final results as announced by the Electoral Commission contained numerous errors and lacked adequate traceability, transparency and verifiability.

“Finally, the restrictions on political freedoms, the excessive use of force by security forces and abuses of human rights in the post-election period undermined the corresponding positive aspects during the pre-election campaign. As such, many aspects of the 2018 elections in Zimbabwe failed to meet international standards.”

The report made 23 reform recommendations and not even one of the reforms has been implemented. Both Zanu PF and the country’s corrupt, incompetent and utterly useless opposition camp, led by MDC/CCC, have completely ignored the report and its recommendations.

The opposition candidates were tripping over each other to submit their nomination papers last Wednesday 21st June 2023, knowing fully well that ZEC had not produced a verified voters’ roll, something as basic as that. No doubt the EU observers will hear of endless stories of people will be denied the vote because their names have disappeared from the voters’ roll, of multiple voting, etc. They will never verify any of these because the is no verified voters’ roll!

The land of the land says there should be a verified voters’ roll at least one calendar month before nomination day. Zimbabwe has never ever produced a verified voters’ roll. Everyone including the ruling party and opposition leaders and the sanctimonious judge presiding over the nomination process knows there is no verified voters’ roll.

It is not that the opposition leaders do not know that without implementing the reforms so that basic things like having a verified voters’ roll Zimbabwe’s elections are just a circus. They have know all that and they don’t care the elections are not to international standard!

“The (2013) electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility,” confessed Coltart in his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe.

There it is from the horse’s own mouth; Zimbabwe will not implement reforms and thus hold free, fair and credible elections until the issue of opposition greed is addressed. The opposition will never ever do “the only logical” thing and stop participating in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy because of greed.

Of course, it is naive to expect Zanu PF to implement any democratic reforms know fully well that the party will never ever win free, fair and credible elections - not with its disastrous economic and political track record of the last 43 years. Zanu PF will never reform itself out of office.

And ever since the 2008 to 2013 GNU the party has learned that it can continue to rig elections and get away with it as long as the party allows the opposition to win a few gravy train seats to entice them and thus keep the multi-party facade. Mnangagwa has created POLAD to reward losing presidential candidate and thus ensure the opposition will participate in droves regardless how flawed and illegal the electoral process got!

“If Zimbabwe’s election process is flawed and illegal, then why are all our opposition parties participating in droves!” Mnangagwa has often argued.

Of course he has a point, if Zimbabweans themselves do not mind that elections are going ahead without even something as basic as a verified voters’ roll. What business is it of outsiders to object and judge the elections “are not to international standards”? Is Zimbabwe not entitle to set her own standards?

Zimbabwe has become the byword for corruption and criminal waste of human and material resources. As a failed state the country is failing to provide even the most basic needs of its people such as education, health care, clean running water, etc., etc. The ruling elite, including the opposition leaders who will secure their gravy train seats, are clearly happy with the situation but not so the masses at the coal face of what it means to live in a failed state.

The 49% and counting of Zimbabweans now living in abject poverty will not accept that Zimbabwe should set its own standard for social and economic justice and be condemned to poverty and hopelessness and despair. They will be equally foolish to accept that Zanu PF should be allowed to rig elections, with the connivance of CCC, and continue to deny them a meaning say in the governance of the country. Deny them the only hope of ending the curse of rigged elections and bad governance the root cause Zimbabwe IS a failed state.

With not even one token reforms implemented since the rigged 2018 elections, it is as clear as day that Zanu PF is once again rigging these 2023 elections. What the ordinary Zimbabwean wants to see from the EU and all the election observers, regional as well as those from distant lands, it a concerted effort to end Zimbabwe’s curse of rigged elections. We want two things from election observers:

  1. judging these elections to the same international accepted election standards, the same three-foot yard stick and not some one-foot yard stick.

  1. the observer reports must address the root causes why Zimbabwe has failed to hold free, fair and credible elections including the refusal by Zanu PF, with the active connivance of the MDC/CCC to implement even the most basic requirements for free, fair and credible elections. There will be no meaningful political change as long as the opposition continue to sell out running with the povo hare and hunting with the Zanu PF hounds.

To Ambassador Jobst von Kirchmann, we do not want another EU Election Observer Mission to tell us what we already know - that Zanu PF is rigging these 2023 elections. Please stop dealing with the opposition with kid gloves because their participation in these flawed elections is what is keeping Zanu PF in power. That is not too much to ask!

“Tell your family to stop voting Zanu PF u will see change and come back home.”

And meanwhile, you wiser than King Solomon, has participated in these flawed elections even when SADC, EU, etc. said it was folly for 43 years. What has that accomplished? Why is Zimbabwe the very personification of a failed state?

Zanu PF is rigging these elections and one does not have to wait until 24 August to see this! You claim to be wise and yet cannot see the sheer stupidity of participating in these flawed election to perpetuate the Zanu PF dictatorship.

Zimbabwe’s worst curse is having too many village idiots like you and to crown it, they have the vote!

Who or what has “invalidated” the reality of Zanu PF rigging these elections? Chamisa’s claims of winning big because CCC has devised Winning In Rigged Elections Strategies (WIRES)? Even a village idiot believes these WIRES nonsense much less some one as talented as you, Munya! Yes I may have called you stupid but you are not THAT stupid.

I don’t have to wait for 24 August to say Zanu PF is rigging and winning these elections. I am saying it now!

“Now u even blame ccc for Zanu pf rigging, u never stop to amaze us.”

I blame MDC/CCC for failing to implement reforms even when they had the golden opportunity to do so and blame they for participating in flawed elections out of greed. They have conned their naive and gullible followers into believing in these foolish nonsense of Winning In Rigged Elections Strategies.

I accept Zimbabweans are a naive and gullible lot, some are brain dead, still that is no excuse for Chamisa and company to take advantage of the stupid for their own selfish gain!

“It’s only those with one screw loose in the head that can be discouraged from voting by your cheap propaganda.”

If the majority of Zimbabweans were as clever as you say, then why is Zimbabwe a failed state sinking deeper and deeper into the abyss? If Zimbabweans were clever then why is the country led by buffoons like Mnangagwa?

He is rigging these elections and by participating the people are giving him legitimacy and thus extending their own suffering. Only a village idiot would argue that is not a foolish move.

  5. Mr Mbalula Fikile lacks the knowledge on why Zimbabwe's รจconomy had been on and off for the past twenty -three years.

We had our own share of challenges since 1998 emanating from the time the late former President  Robert Mugabe gave war veterans $50 000 compensation money which most of the people called it the Black Friday. That was the genesis of our challenges and the falling of the once mighty Zimbabwean dollar.

This fueled the black market and corruption followed unabated. Poor governance and economic policies were the order of the day. Life became hard for ordinary Zimbabweans where other people started crossing the borders trying to seek greener pastures.

I totally agree with you, if Zanu PF remains in power after 23 August vote, many people will be looking at leaving the country out of hopelessness and despair. The ANC government in Pretoria knows this and are willing to accept it, even though they know most of those Zimbabweans leaving will be heading for SA.

The alternative is Zanu PF losing power and the country’s economy improving. This would give South Africans the courage to seek regime change too. And this is the political reality ANC leaders, especially Secretary General Fikile Mbalula, is finding too bite a pill to swallow. He knows that he will never be President of SA, a position he must feel was his.

Mbalula is going to pull every trick in the book to make sure there is no regime change in Zimbabwe even if that means dragging SA into deeper economic trouble. SA is well on its way to becoming just another failed state, if it has not done so already. Mbalula is so desperate to keep ANC in office he would willingly accept the consequence of SA become a failed state if that is a price to be paid for stopping regime change in Zimbabwe.

The participation of Zimbabwe’s opposition parties with not even a token reform in place should make it ease for Zanu PF to rig the elections. ANC will do its bit by making sure SADC endorse the elections process as free and fair and grant Zanu PF legitimacy. Job done!

  6. Businessman Ewan Macmillan, one of the alleged gold smuggling and money laundering kingpins interviewed in the Qatar-based television news network Al Jazeera’s Gold Mafia documentary series, has apologised saying he made the remarks under the influence of alcohol.

This comes months after the 52-year-old merchant and several others, including Zimbabwe’s ambassador-at-large Uebert Angel were exposed in the news network’s sting operation claiming they could launder millions of US dollars on behalf of President Emmerson Mnangagwa and government as a sanctions-busting measure.

In a brief statement yesterday, Macmillan said: “I would like to apologise to my family, friends, fellow Zimbabweans and to all those people… offended (by) my behaviour and comments as shown in the recent Al Jazeera Gold Mafia series.

“I made many statements under the influence of alcohol that were boastful, untrue, derogatory and malicious that have caused harm to those around me, in business with me… industry that I had worked in… Zimbabwe banking and financial sectors, and those in important positions of authority..,” he said, adding he was “thoroughly embarrassed about the whole incident.”

The documentary was not just based on what Macmillan said but hard supporting evidence of individuals filmed transporting gold and cash, bank statements, statements of many others beside himself, etc. Drank or sober, what he said is factual. He should be apologising to the millions of ordinary Zimbabweans who are the real victims of the Gold Mafia looting and not to his fellow Mafia friends for letting the cat out of the bag.

If there should ever be meaningful political change in Zimbabwe, people like Macmillan must be hunted down and as much of the looted wealth recovered. That will not happen this August, his Gold Mafia friends are rigging these elections and are certain to get away with it thanks to the corrupt incompetent and utterly useless CCC!

“Why are you now saying these statements now? Your timing, undiluted zeal and untiring efforts harping on the same thing is questionable.”

Zanu PF is rigging these elections and CCC are participating to give Zanu PF legitimacy and thus perpetuating the dictatorship. What we can do at this the 11th hour is denounce the flawed process, denounce CCC for selling yet again and make sure that SADC does not grant vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy.

Instead of getting on with the important task on hand we have some village idiots determined to participate and thus give credibility to the flawed process and legitimacy to Zanu PF. They do not deny the elections are being rigged, even they, stupid as they are, are not that stupid to dare deny Zanu PF is rigging these elections.

“Why are you now saying these statements now?” What a stupid, stupid question! If Zanu PF is rigging these elections, which they are, what matters is to make sure the regime does not get legitimacy. When the house is on fire, you do not ask who saw the fire first, does he/she have a cat, was it vaccinated, etc., etc.?

No wonder the country is a failed state and has become the byword for failure, chaos and corruption. Zimbabwe has more than her fair share of mentally challenged citizens and this is reflected all the way to the thugs and buffoons ruling the country.

So you think saying Zanu PF is rigging the elections is proof “my untiring efforts harping on the same thing is questionable”. What is it you think I am after?

We should be fighting to get Zimbabwe out of this hell-hole the country is stuck in but some idiots think this is about their hero Chamisa, who must never be questioned much less held to account regardless he is holding public office and aspiring to be president.

Zanu PF is rigging these elections and CCC’s winning big claim is just hot air. I am saying this now because there is a mountain of evidence to prove it. I am not going to wait for 24 August when it will be too late to say it because the damage will be done.

“How many political parties are contesting this particular election?”

The more the merrier! Mnangagwa has added the US$ 40 000 housing loan bribe for MPs and Senators knowing that will galvanise the opposition to participate no matter what. The opposition candidate where tripping over each other to get their nomination papers in last Wednesday. They all knew ZEC had not produced a verified voters’ roll which, alone gives Zanu PF 1001 ways to rig these elections. They did not care, their beady eyes are on the few gravy train seats Zanu PF gives away to the opposition.

Indeed, if it was not for the stiff nomination fees there will be a hell lot more candidates for local government right up to the presidential candidates.

“How many political parties are contesting this particular election?” How many did you want? The number of stupid questions keep coming! You just cannot reason with a moron!

  10. To all those coming to observe Zimbabwe's 2023 elections we have two demands:

    1) Judge the elections to accepted democratic standard, 3-foot yard stick and not some 1-foot yard stick.

    2) Not even one token reform of the 23 EU reform recommendation was implemented so instead of yet another report restating the same flaws and reform recommendations lets address why no reforms were implemented. Why the opposition are participating even without something as basic as a verified voters' roll.

  11. “The ERC notes that the fairness of the nomination process was possibly impacted as a number of candidates were disqualified due to “illegal” nominators.

“This issue could have been avoided had the Electoral Commission availed a copy of the voters’ roll to political parties ahead of the nomination court day for candidates to be able to verify their nominators registration status,” read the report.

Zanu PF candidates’ nomination paper are spot on. If the name of the nominating person is spelt incorrectly in the voters’ roll it will be spelt incorrectly in the nomination papers which would suggest Zanu PF candidate had a copy of the voters’ roll.

Indeed, it was reported in the past that Zanu PF candidate had the mobile numbers of prospective voters and so were able to text them asking for votes.

The issue of failure to produce a verified voters’ roll is a big one, Zanu PF will have 1001 ways to rig these elections and get away with it. Why the opposition are participating in these flawed elections elections no matter what goes to show why it is naive to expect such totally discredited opposition to deliver reforms and free elections.

MDC/CCC are running with the povo hare and hunting with the Zanu PF hounds. The important question is how long are we going to allow this continue given Zimbabwe is now a failed state already?

  12. China on Wednesday donated over 2 000 tonnes of rice and wheat flour to Zimbabwe, as relations between the two countries continue to grow.

Receiving the donation at Grain Marketing Board (GMB)’s Aspindale depot, Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Professor Paul Mavima said the donation would go a long way in alleviating food shortages in care homes across the country.

“This is in line with the provisions of the NDS1 (National Development Strategy 1) on the social protection pillar, which speaks to food security and sufficiency to all households, in the spirit of leaving no one and no place food insufficient.”

Well, well! The nation is told it has produced surplus grain thanks to command agriculture one day. The next day the country is importing grain! We are all too familiar with such claims as Zimbabwe will be generating enough electrical power for the country’s need and will be exporting surplus. And yet the scourge of load shedding has remained.

The nation’s biggest scourge is having a governing party that is not democratically accountable to the people. Zanu PF is rigging these 2023 elections and so the regime will continue to lie, loot and trample roughshod over the people’s freedoms, rights and dreams.

  13. ZANU PF splashed big at its 2023 election campaign launch in Chipinge, Manicaland province on Saturday with sources saying the ruling party may have spent nearly US$2 million at the event at a time when the majority are wallowing in poverty.

Zanu PF hosted a colourful election manifesto launch at Mutema Secondary School in Musikavanhu constituency.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa was accompanied by his Zanu PF deputies Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi and party national chairperson Oppah Muchinguri.

Zanu PF hired over 500 buses and lorries to transport its supporters from across the country to the venue.

When it comes to funding, Zanu PF’s spending power is humongous compared to that of the opposition. Some of the aspiring candidates dropped out on nomination day because the could not raise the US$ 1 000 and US$ 20 000 nomination fees for the parliamentary and presidential candidate respectively.

Zanu PF nor only paid the nomination fees for all its party candidates buy bought US$ 60 000 twin cab trucks for each of the 300 MP and senatorial candidate, US$ 18 m.

A few weeks ago all the country’s 100 or so judges received a US$400 000 housing loan - which they are not expected to repay. Another US$ 40m.

It is believed Zanu PF will for spend US$ 4 b plus in this elections cycle. There are over 20 other political parties participating in these elections and between them they would have done really well if they spend US$ 4 m 1% of Zanu PF’s budget.

Zanu PF’s source of funds is state resources, all state’s resource are at the party’s disposal especially during elections, and the biggest source is all the wholesale looting of the nation’s resources.

How anyone can pretend this is a fair contest beggars belief! The opposition know this is not a fair contest and yet soldier on because they know Zanu PF has to let the opposition win some seats just to maintain the country’s image as a multiparty democracy. A price Zanu PF has to pay for legitimacy.

  14. Exiled Presidential candidate Saviour Kasukuwere has given the ruling party sleepless nights especially in ZANU PF strongest area Mashonaland Central province.

Party leadership in Mashonaland Central province has failed to denounce Kasukuwere as they usually do to other opposition leaders.

In Mount Darwin which is the strongest district of ZANU PF, Kasukuwere is dominating with his candidates reportedly dishing money to the struggling electorate.

ZANU PF top officials in Mash Central where Kasukuwere also hails from has given up on Mount Darwin.

"We know he is strong in Mount Darwin but we will see what comes from it because so far no one dares to denounce him in his rural home," the official said.

ZANU PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa described Kasukuwere as a thug.

"He should stop his ambitions because he is just a thug," Mutsvangwa said.

MeanwhileKasukuwere successfully filed his nomination papers in absentia last Wednesday through his chief election agent Jacqueline Sande.

Chris Mutsvangwa called Kasukuwere a thug! A case of the pot calling the kettle black! Each time a thug meets another thug, they circle each other like bulls, each knows they could lose an eye or worse.

  15. THE Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has lost seven potential council seats in Rushinga district, Mashonaland West, after their party politicians were disqualified for filing in the wrong constituencies.

David Coltart, CCC treasurer, blamed the issue on what he perceived as the opaque delimitation of boundaries by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).

Coltart expressed his disappointment on Twitter regarding the party’s failure to field candidates in the affected wards.

He stated that CCC candidates only discovered on the day of nomination that their names had been moved to different wards, which was a result of the delimitation program implemented by ZEC.

Additionally, he criticized ZEC for refusing to provide the voters’ roll, a crucial document for the electoral process.

Many people will discover on voting day that they cannot vote because their name is not in the voters’ roll they expected it to be! If these problems are arising with prospective candidate it is bound to be repeated with ordinary voters!

The only reason why CCC is participating in these flawed elections, so flawed and illegal that the only rational option is to withdraw, is greed.

Zimbabwe is a failed state and the nation is desperate for meaningful change. How long is the nation going to allow CCC to play this game of running with the povo hare and hunting with the Zanu PF hounds?

Whichever way this time Chamisa unopinda mu Government, iam not interested about the position he is going to take, iam only interested kuti apinde mu Government.

This is the kind of nonsensical assurance of electoral victory that Zanu PF cronies spoon fed MDC leaders during the GNU and no wonder the later failed to implement even one token reform in five years. The evidence that Zanu PF is rigging these 2023 elections is a mountain high and yet some village idiots are telling us CCC is winning big. The tragedy is there are many foolish enough to ignore what they can see with their own eyes and believe the hen's teeth stories.

Zimbabwe is a failed state, the state is failing to provide even the most basic needs such as a stable economic environment for economic activity, education, health care, etc. The country's education service is so poor a Ministry of Education Official told a parliamentary committee that many students in Form 3 cannot read or write after 10 years of formal school - stuff a child is expected to do after 2 years!

Zimbabwe cannot afford another five more years of this Zanu PF failed state and yet that is exactly what is happening. People are being conned to participate in the flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy, to perpetuate the dictatorship. How people can be so easily conned even after 43 years of Zanu PF Mafiosi rigging elections beggars belief!

“True that it becomes boring everyday the same thing again and again.
“The problem is, he is addressing it to the wrong people. Why don't he join politicians platforms and tell them.”

To the millions of ordinary Zimbabweans who are suffering the consequences of Zimbabwe being a failed state the prospect of another five more years of this chaotic and tyrannical misrule are a real nightmare. They would rather hear the warning that Zanu PF is rigging the elections every hour on the hour, even 70x7 per hour, if there is a chance this would deny Zanu PF legitimacy and end this madness.

Still, I would be the first one to publicly acknowledge that many Zimbabweans know Zimbabwe is a failed state but only a tiny minority realise that the root cause of this sorry state of affairs is the failure to hold free and fair elections.

Zanu PF has outwitted MDC/CCC leaders and their brain dead followers into believing they CAN win rigged elections, they do not need reforms and free and fair elections. Many of the liberation war dead must be spinning in the graves at how cheaply the sacred right to free, fair and credible elections has been traded in the oxymoronic nonsense of Winning In Rigged Elections Strategies (WIRES). Even now after 43 years of Zanu PF Mafiosi rigging elections!

“The problem is, he is addressing it to the wrong people. Why don't he join politicians platforms and tell them.”

Chamisa, Biti, Coltart and the rest of the MDC/CCC leaders are participating in these elections knowing fully well Zanu PF is rigging and that participating will only give Zanu PF legitimacy. They still participate regardless out of greed.

Chamisa and company are hell bent on participating in these flawed elections, they submitted their nomination papers knowing fully well ZEC had not produced even something as basic as a verified voters’ roll. MDC/CCC are the ones conniving to keep Zanu PF in power and the country a failed state out of greed!

“It looks like Mukori is yet to get his bundle allocation for this week from Zanu PF HQ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Once he gets the bundles tinochibata pano kunyaudzwa chaiko๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Ž”

Since when has Zanu PF wanted free, fair and credible elections? Of course, Zanu PF wants CCC to participate in these flawed elections to give the regime legitimacy.

Labelling me a Zanu PF project is a lead balloon that only the mentally retarded will believe. To them any one who criticise Chamisa, regardless of whether the criticism is valid or not, must be a Zanu PF project regardless of what he has said about Zanu PF. This is to be expected, as I said they are mentally challenged.

There are others, of sound mind, who are desperate to keep their false Zanu PF narrative the elections are free and fair or CCC narrative that Chamisa’s winning in rigged elections strategies are working wonders. They know my criticism had done serious damage to them both and are calling a Zanu PF, Mwonzora or CCC project; pick you pick.

My message remains: Zanu PF is rigging these elections and CCC is participating to give Zanu PF legitimacy out of greed! This time, no even a village idiot cannot say they did not this.
