Msipa stop flaunting "liberation struggle" credentials, they do not proof you alone know best never did! By P Guramatunhu

“President Robert Mugabe has flushed his rich political legacy down the cesspit by aligning himself with "a cabal of selfish self-centred crooks" hell-bent on elbowing out Zanu-PF's founding members and presenting themselves as bona fide party members, former politburo member Cephas Msipa has lamented,” reported Newsday.

I think it is Cephas Msipa who is flushing his political legacy down the cesspit by talking of President Mugabe’s “rich political legacy”!

President Mugabe will go down in history as an incompetent, corrupt and murderous tyrant whose misrule destroyed the country’s once promising economy and terrorized the nation denying people their basic freedoms and human rights including the right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country and even the right to life. Over 30 000 innocent Zimbabweans have been murdered for selfish political gain for Pete’s sake! Where is the “rich political legacy” in that?

There is a lot the G40 faction members whose activities deserve the “cabal of selfish self-centred crooks” label. The way Grace Mugabe has accused former VP Joice Mujuru of plotting to assassinate her husband and then failed to produce a single shred of evidence to substantiate the treason charges, for example, epitomizes everything that is wrong with Zimbabwe’s gangster political culture. It is little wonder then that so many of our politicians are thugs and crooks!

However if Comrade Msipa is interested in an honest and useful political discourse; God knows we need one desperately if we are ever going to chart our way out of this political and economic hell we this Zanu PF regime has landed us in; then there must be some basic historic facts and truths that we must all acknowledged and accept up front. There have been serious shortcomings in the country’s political culture and by our political leaders themselves are some of the historic facts that must be acknowledged. And so for Comrade Msipa to talk of "people with no history of the armed struggle" as if those with such history alone have the monopoly of insightful knowledge to all the nation’s problems is an outrage.

Indeed it is the arrogant of I-alone-know-best of Comrade Msipa’s generation of leaders that has landed the nation in this pickle. Yes your generation has the history of the armed struggle but it does not have the monopoly of knowledge much less being infallible.

The G40 faction leaders are displaying the same I-alone-know-best arrogance; no prizes for guessing from whom they learnt it.

If we are ever going to get out of this hell; then we need dismantle the corrupt and tyrannical dictatorship Zanu PF imposed on the nation replace it with a free, just and democratic system of government. We want a Zimbabwe in which every Zimbabwean’s freedoms and basic rights including the right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country and the right to life are respected and guaranteed. We want a Zimbabwe where every citizen’s contribution to the national discourse in judged on the merits of its contents alone regardless of whether the speaker’s liberation war history record or not, race, gender, tribe, etc.

It is disappointing, to say the least, that after 36 years of Zanu PF misrule that has brought so much misery, suffering and deaths to this nation there would still be unrepentant old geezers like you, Comrade Msipa, who still refuse to see President Mugabe for the incompetent, corrupt and murderous tyrant he is. The liberation war was about liberating the people from oppression and exploitation and not removing one oppressor only to replace him with another.

For one claiming to have “history of the liberation struggle” all you have ever done with this record is flaunt it as justification why you and your fellow Zanu PF leaders deserve to be the next oppressors for such is your true legacy of the last 36 years!

  1. "It is true that the party will be launched in February, but we must first of all confess that we killed innocent people when we were in Zanu-PF," Horwe is quoted in the Zimbabwe People First minutes saying.

"This includes the atrocities we committed during Gukurahundi at the instigation of our superiors. We cannot go forward without owning up to our sins because God will not bless our efforts," he added.

That would be a good starting point but better still tell the nation the details of how Zanu PF rigged the last elections because that is the only sure way of stopping the regime doing it again!

Msipa may have a point against what G40 members are doing but he must make his point and not coach it in this nonsense of A has liberation war history so he/she is right and B has no liber-ation struggle history and so they are wrong. This nation has been ruled by those with impecca-ble liberation war records and look at the mess they have made!

After 36 years of tragic failed leadership for Msipa to still be blubbering about “we liberation war heroes know best” is unforgivable! He and his Zanu PF friends owe this nation a big apology and what he is offering is an insult!

  3. EU has extended its sanctions against Mugabe and his wife for another year.

Great news! The EU should have brought back the sanctions it removed and even extended them to include the regime's family and cronies. It is no secret that Zanu PF rigged the 2013 elections and will do so again unless the SADC democratic reforms agreed in the 2008 GPA are implemented.

Yes it was MDC's fault that not even one reform was implemented during the five years of the GNU, still we cannot punish the whole nation because of Tsvangirai and company's breath-taking incompetence.

We need the GPA reforms to be implemented and all political, social and economic pressure that can be applied on this Zanu PF dictatorship must now be applied. The regime is dragging the nation into even deeper dangerous waters and must be stopped before it is too late.

  4. So has Msipa just only now noticed that Zanu PF has lost direction? The country is in a mess because of 36 years of incompetency, corruption, vote rigging and tyrannical murderous rule. Was Msipa fast asleep all those years and has only just woken up to object to the in fighting in Zanu PF or is it that he has never cared about the ordinary people but care about those with liberation war history?

There is a lot going on in the country right now and one thing is clear there is a crying need for radi-cal political change. If Msipa's contribution to this discourse is to defend the status quo so the country continues to be ruled by those with liberation war credentials then he should just shut up or he will be told to do so in no uncertain terms!

The right of every citizen to a meaningful say in the governance of this country, which is the heart of this debate, is sacrosanct but has been callously brushed aside to accommodate the status quo with its no-regime-change mantra. If, after 36 years, anyone cannot see the absurdity of the present system then not a moment should be lost in telling the individual that their views are unacceptable and the nation is losing patience with their stupidity.

Having liberation war credentials does not make one an infallible leader, we know this now to be a historic fact and anyone still claiming such infallibility is a nut case! It will be irresponsible of any thinking Zimbabwean to waste time listening to such claims even if it is to massage the misplaced ego! The nation is in a serious mess, the coming months are going to be the toughest this nation has ever faced and yet Zanu PF continues to drag us ever deeper into this hell. We need a concerted effort to end this madness.

  5. The reality is G40 has been more about appearance with no substance. Grace fooled some people with her attack on Mujuru but by the time Mujuru and her supporters were purged out of the party it was clear, this was about power. Her attach of Mnangagwa has not fooled anyone.

Many people dislike Mnangagwa with a passion, they know he has been heavily involved with all the Zanu PF vote rigging and other dirty and yet if they were asked to pick him or Grace many would pick him. Grace has said nothing of substance ever since she stormed on the political stage. No nation in its right mind would ever want an empty head whose greed and ambition know no bounds!

  6. MDC's failure to implement even one democratic reform in five years will go down in history as the worst thing those opposition leaders have ever done! It is sad that a learned man like Professor Ncube has completely failed to grasp the seriousness of his failure; even now, with the benefit of hindsight, he still to own up.

Ever since the rigged July 2013 elections MDC leaders, if they had an common sense, should have apologized to the nation for betraying them and, even more importantly, started working hard to have the GPA reforms implemented. The village idiots did not apologized and, to rub hot chilli in the nation's eyes, have been calling for the implementation of useless electoral law reforms.

I challenge Ncube, Biti, Tsvangirai, Coltart or any of the other MDC leaders to deny that the electoral law reforms will NEVER delivery free, fair and credible elections. They are demanding these just to give the people the impression they are doing something constructive just as they wasted the GNU years drafting a constitution which they supported all the way although they knew would never deliver free and fair elections.
You are right history will judge us all and it will judge you Professor Ncube and your fellow MDC leaders as breathtakingly incompetent and corrupt!

The way forward is to learn from the past and then plan the way forward accordingly. The lesson from the past is that MDC leaders are incompetent and corrupt and it is folly to trust them ever again. The way forward is to demand the implementation of the GPA reforms, we are not going to get out of this hell until we have democratic change!

You are the real tragedy here, even with the benefit of hindsight you have still failed to appreciate the critical importance of the GPA reforms. It is clear you will never do that, this is one door that will never be opened to you because you shut your mind to reason.
The GPA reforms are a lot more than a song; they are the key that will open the door to freedom, liberty and economic recovery. If this nation is ever to get out of this hell, then it must implement all the GPA reforms.

  9. @Marshalls 777
I agree the GPA has expired and I also agree it would be naive to expect Zanu PF to implement the GPA reforms alone.

The important point here is to accept that the failure by MDC to get even one GPA reform imple-mented does not mean we do not need the reforms implemented. We still do!

The second point is that we will be naive to think Zanu PF can ever be trusted to implement any meaningful reforms; but this is exactly what MDC are now expecting us to do. MDC are pushing for electoral law reforms and want us to believe they will get Zanu PF "kicking and screaming" according to Mwonzora to implement any meaningful reforms.

The way forward is to get everyone to agree that the GPA reforms are the only way forward; sadly that has not happened because MDC leaders are telling the nation the lies about electoral law re-forms. Only when we have a united voice demanding GPA reforms can we go to step two.

Step two is demand the appointment of an independent body to implement the GPA reforms.

Sorry to hear about your parents being short changed. There millions of similar stories of those in positions of power and authority abusing their positions for selfish political gain and the rot has started right at the top and runs all the way down to the bottom. Mugabe is racking in a cool $2 billion a year for the wholesale looting that is taking place in Marange and Chiadzwa.

You are supporting Professor Moyo because he exposed the corruption of people like Cuthbert Dube. He did that, true enough but you should dig deeper when you dealing with these Zanu PF thugs. The Professor, by his own admission, has played a major role in the elections victories of Mugabe; we both know Mugabe rigs elections and so exact details of the role the Professor played is not known, at least not yet, still we know it was not an honourable one.

People should not feel pressured to support either the G40 or Mnangagwa, either tweedle dee or tweedle dum. The real choice before us is one between the tyrannical dictatorship which is what G40, Mnangagwa faction, Mujuru and her Zimbabwe People First and even Tsvangirai and his MDC friends are offering or a healthy and functional democratic system of government.

To get the latter we must implement all the democratic reforms agreed in the 2008 GPA and fail-ure to do so is per se electing to keep the dictatorship. What Mujuru and Tsvangirai are offering is to reform the dictator Mugabe but only to replace him with another with the same dictatorial powers.

Zimbabwe wasted a golden opportunity to have meaningful democratic change during the GNU by failing to get even one reform implemented. The in fighting in Zanu PF has divided and weakened Zanu PF and the worsening economic situation has saved to pile on even more pressure on the regime. The regime knows it has no choice but to accept political reform to get out of this mess.

It is up to us the people to decide what political reforms Zanu PF implements. By limiting our political choice to either G40 or Mnangagwa faction then we will get the same incompetent, corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF with some of the old faces removed and news one added in; on one end. The other end is to demand the full implementation of the GPA reforms and thus finally get a democratic system of government we have been dying for.

  11. There are many Zanu PF operatives on site like this one who are trying the usual tried and tested Zanu PF dirty trick of divide and rule. They are out to brainwash us all into believing that Zimbabweans in the country are distrustful of Zimbabweans in the diaspora. All criticism against the regime and calls for democratic change are all coming from those in the diaspora, who are all to the man. woman and child puppets controlled by the whites.

The blacks in Zimbabwe love Mugabe with all their body and soul and he has the 61% electoral victory in the last elections to prove it! As for the worsening economic situation the people at home understand it is not the regime's fault, this is a problem caused by the sanctions imposed by West.

The regime has been at a loss as to why it has failed to deliver any of the 2.2 million new jobs. It could not blame it on the sanctions since it promised the jobs knowing fully well it has the sanc-tions to deal with.

The people themselves are no allowed to hold any public demonstration to express their true feelings as WOZA members would readily testify.

In fact this Zanu PF is using the same dirty tricks used by Ian Smith; the whites insisted "our blacks are very happy, it is those under communism influence who are inciting discontent!" History is repeating itself.

Of course the Zimbabweans in the are the one demanding change because they are the ones who have no jobs, no clean running water, have 18 out of 24 hours power cuts, who were denied the vote in the blatantly rigged elections, etc. They are the ones on the coal face and not those in the diaspora and to argue that they do not mind the suffering and an unnecessary death is all nonsense.

As the country sinks deeper and deeper into this political and economic hell Mugabe has dragged us into the regime will have to deal with more and more Zimbabwe inside the country demanding meaningful democratic change. So far the regime has been in denial of the economic meltdown and of those inside Zimbabwe crying for the regime to address the economic problems causing the meltdown.

The present economic situation is not socially and politically sustainable the regime will be forced to admit that the economic meltdown is real and the voices of those demanding change is not coming from London or New York but from Harare, Bulawayo, and all the other cities, towns, growth points and village right across the length and breadth of Zimbabwe!
