Flea with no legs cannot hear, is a fallacy. So too is Chamisa did us a favour participating in 2023 elections. W Mukori

To claim that Nelson Chamisa and his CCC friends have done the people of Zimbabwe a great favour by participating in the flawed 2023 elections is a fallacy.

“If CCC had boycotted the elections, the remaining small parties like Mwonzora’s MDC and Madhuku’s NCA would not have been a serious political threat to force Zanu PF to rig the elections. And so SADC and AU would have found no flaws and illegalities to condemn!” the proponents of the fallacy argue.

By definition: a contradictory premises fallacy occurs when someone presents a conclusion that cannot be accurate based on the premises set forth.

There was a morbid scientist who trained a flea to jump at his command. He then proceeded to remove the poor creature’s limbs one by one. With the loss of each limb the insect moved at the command or be it not as far as with all its legs. After the last leg, the insect did not budge!

“A flea without legs cannot hear!” concluded our morbid scientist!

Of course, the claim that CCC did the nation a great service by participating in the flawed and illegal 23 August 2023 elections is a contradictory premises fallacy. For one thing, if the party did us a great favour this year then it must have also done us a great favour during the 2008 to 2013 GNU when Morgan Tsvangirai and company had the golden opportunity to implement the democratic reforms and thus ended Zanu PF’s carte blanche powers to rig elections.

With all the democratic reforms implemented Zimbabwe would have held its first ever free, fair and credible elections in 2013 and from henceforth have been a healthy and functioning democratic nation. Think of the economic and political benefits the last ten years would have brought.

These 23 August 2023 elections would have been free, fair and credible consolidating Zimbabwe’s position as a bastion of peace, freedom and liberty; free at last from the clutches of corrupt and tyrannical vote rigging thugs!

“Yeah! But the nation would be very disappointed that SADC and AU election reports would have found no flaws and illegalities to report about!” our morbid CCC leader would argue!

The truth is CCC leaders participated in this 2023 elections knowing fully well that Zanu PF was rigging the elections and that participating would give Zanu PF legitimacy. They still participated regardless because they also knew that Zanu PF was offering a few gravy train seats to entice the opposition to participate no matter how flawed and illegal the process got.

Zanu PF knew the party could never win free, fair and credible elections even against the small parties like MDC and NCA, at least the party would be foolish to make such a gabble. Zanu PF knew the party would get away with blatantly rigged elections as long as the opposition participated in the flawed elections on mass.

After 2018 elections, Mnangagwa created the POLAD grouping to reward the losers of the presidential rat race. Lovemore Madhuku was one of the beneficiaries of the POLAD freebies and, no doubt, he and many others had their beady eyes on POLAD freebies this time too.

In the 2013 and 2018 Zanu PF rigged the elections and MDC/CCC participated with the usual enthusiasm and SADC and AU election observers played along and turned a blind eye to the rigging. Of course both Zanu PF and CCC were surprise that SADC and AU observers had departed from the usual script and condemned the 2023 Zimbabwe elections!

For CCC leaders to now claim that party had deliberately failed to implement the reforms so that SADC and AU would have the flaws and illegalities to report about is nonsense!

“The (2013) electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility,” confessed David Coltart in his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe.

They should have implemented the reforms, then boycotting would have been irrelevant. However, when they had failed to implement the reforms, boycotting was the more rational option since the alternative was giving Zanu PF legitimacy out of greed.

CCC leaders’ greed was so strong that they ignored SADC and AU reports denounce the election as a sham to take up their gravy train seats. No doubt, Madhuku and others cannot wait for the dust to settle so they too can claim their POLAD freebies.

For Chamisa and company to claim the fortuitous SADC and AU damning report of the 23 August 2023 as their doing; is an outrage that must be dismissed with the contempt it rightly deserves.

Indeed, the nation is hoping that SADC leaders will do the honourable thing and uphold the SADC damning report and thus deny this Zanu PF regime complete with its surrogate CCC opposition political legitimacy. The country will then be compelled to devise a National Transition Authority (NTA) who primary task will be bio implement the democratic reforms and end the curse of rigged elections and bad governance.

Both Zanu PF and CCC cannot be in the NTA. The former will never reform itself out of office and the latter, will no doubt, not want to implement the reforms to give future SADC and AU election observers have some flaws and illegalities to report on! Zimbabwe is a failed state and cannot afford to waste the chance this NTA has created to end the curse of rigged elections and bad governance!

  1. Zimbabwe's present political system has stifled debate and democratic discourse it is not surprising that there are no quality leaders in both Zanu PF and CCC. The present system is like a sewage pond and everyone knows you will never catch quality fish in a sewage pond. We need to implement the democratic reforms and drain the sewage pond and fill it with clean water! This is why nothing can be accomplished until we implement the reforms first!

  2. This is the price one pays for attacking the messenger and ignoring the message. In our politics where substance, facts and reality count for nothing, where leaders are demigods who must never ever be questioned and where those not with us and against us; it is easy to see why attacking the messenger is now an obsession.

It is a great pity that people like Hopewell Chin'ono and many others have buckled to the mindless herd and the whole nation is paying dearly for it! Zimbabwe is a failed state because we have stifled debate and democratic discourse with this idiotic shoot the messenger mentality.

  3. CCC is nothing but the Wapusa wapusa

This would go a long way to explain why MDC/CCC have failed to implement even one democratyic reform in 23 years, 5 of which in the GNU. Only village idiots would want these sell outs to play a party in the NTA!

  4. Sengezo Tshabangu, who asserts his role as the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Secretary General, has challenged the party's accusations that he is an imposter working to advance the agenda of the ruling party. He openly dares the opposition to take him to court and test the validity of his claims.

Tshabangu's challenge comes after he wrote to the Speaker of Parliament and the Local Governance Minister, recalling 15 MPs and 17 councillors, asserting that they are no longer members of the CCC.

In an interview with NewZimbabwe.com, Tshabangu contended that those who were recalled had been imposed on the opposition party by specific individuals and were, therefore, "illegitimate." He characterized this as an internal matter within the CCC, citing that the reasons for the recalls would be revealed in due course. He stressed that their objective was to rectify a situation they perceived as improperly handled.

Last week, Professor Ibbo Mandaza said CCC did not have quality leaders to govern Zimbabwe and the wildebeest mob was up in arms in defence of Chamisa Chete Chete without even looking at the merits of the case. The illegal parliament has just opened and already CCC members are fighting among themselves!

In the 2018 to 2023 parliament MDC A legislators were on French leave because the fight over leadership of the party resulted ion many being recalled and in divided royalties! History is repeating itself.

It would be very foolish indeed if the people of Zimbabwe and going to allow these corrupt and incompetent CCC sell outs into the NTA and waste another chance to implement the reforms and get out of this mess we are in.

  5. CCC participated in the 2023 elections knowing the process is flawed and that participating would give Zanu PF legitimacy. They soldiered on regardless out of selfish greed! To suggest they did the nation a great favour in doing so is a fallacy!

It would be criminal to allow CCC into the NTA on the basis of a falsehood!

“If participation would give ZANU PF legitimacy, did it attain the legitimacy?”

It did in 2013 and 2018, this time it may not do so but only because SADC and AU rejected the process regardless of the opposition participating!

  7. If you do not have the intellect to discern right from wrong you will always fall victim of others. Zanu PF thugs have destroyed the nation’s economy and yet have successful blamed everything on the sanctions imposed by the West and their naive and gullible followers have swallowed the bait, hook, line and sinker!

The people of Zimbabwe have risk all to elect MDC/CCC leaders into power on the promise they would implement the democratic changes the nation has been dying for. They have failed to implement even one token reform in 23 years, 5 of which in the GNU. They have got away with it thanks to the povo’s ignorance and naivety! They have even managed to con povo into believing those questioning Chamisa and company’s blatant betrayal are the enemies of change!

“Never let your enemies choose your enemies for you!” If you are a fool, you don’t know who is your enemy and who is your friend!

  8. In a shocking turn of events, Binga North Member of Parliament (MP) Prince Dubeko Sibanda, representing the Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC), has reacted to the recall by the party's 'Interim Secretary General' Sengenzo Tshabangu through rallying his supporters, urging them to locate Tshabangu in public places and confront him, promising to provide Tshabangu's house number.

The situation took a dangerous turn when Sibanda posted a provocative message on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating, "Sengezo Tshabangu, the tortoise on the lamp post to destroy the CCC. He lives in Bulawayo. Make him popular in all public places. His address is coming. He needs a visit.”

This come as no surprise remembering MDC/CCC has failed to implement even one token reform in 23 years; the leaders are corrupt and breathtakingly incompetent! The people of Zimbabwe should wake up to the reality CCC will never implement the democratic reforms and deliver free and fair elections.

“Some people munoita kunge munotumwa ne Zanu pf, but to my surprise you are in the diaspora. How ironic that you are a victim of Zanu pf's negligence, lack of accountability, corruption to a point of leaving the country but you still support such a regime. Instead of sympathising with the tripple C for endeavouring to manoeuvre under the ruthlessness of Zanu pf you attack CCC. The way you attack CCC, even Mnangagwa's sons won't do that.”

You have no clue why Zimbabwe is a failed state, why SADC condemned the 23 August 2023 elections a farce, what must be done to get the country out of this mess, etc., etc. You are just like Boxer, the horse in Animal Farm, he too had no clue what was going on and so adopted the motto “Napoleon is always right!” And so defended whatever Napoleon did or said. You are the same; you will defend Chamisa Chete Chete no matter what!

You dispute the historic fact that MDC/CCC have failed to implement even one democratic reform in 23 years , 5 of which in the GNU. You don’t know what the reforms are much less how the reforms were supposed to be implemented. Because if you did you would know they did not implement any reforms because Mugabe bribed them with the trappings of high office.

“Mazivanhu eMDC adzidza kudya anyerere!” boasted Zanu PF cronies when asked why MDC leaders were not implementing reforms.

We should all sympathise with the triple C for “endeavouring to manoeuvre under the ruthlessness of Zanu PF”! How anyone can still say such foolish things with all the benefit of hindsight that Nelson Chamisa and company are not demigods but mere mortals, corrupt and incompetent at that.

No wonder Zimbabwe is a failed state, we really have some ignorant and naive people in our midst. Even with the country up to the eye-balls in s****t because of failed leadership they still refuse to accept that political leaders are fallible mortals!

The people of Zimbabwe have risked life and limb to elect MDC/CCC leaders into power for the express purpose they would implement the democratic reforms and end the Zanu PF dictatorship. The question that must be asked is why have they failed to implement even one reform in 23 years, 5 of which in the GNU?

Are you saying they failed to implement even one reform and thus end the Zanu PF dictatorship back in 2013, at the latest, because they wanted the world to see “aizowona huipi we Zanu PF”? How anyone can buy that nonsense beggars belief!

“Read the last paragraph and u will understand why we say Nyika Inovakwa neVene Vayo.”

Yeah right! Zanu PF has spent the last 43 years destroying the country's economy and infrastructures. Indeed the destruction is continuing to this very day with all the wholesale looting that is taking place.

For every step forward in Zanu PF's so-called rebuilding is accompanied by three or more steps backwards. Zanu PF is making a big song and dance about the one step forward but says nothing about the three steps back.

    1 - 3 = - 2 Q.E.D.

Simple arithmetic proves that Zimbabwe is not making progress but rather regressing!

If elections were free, fair and credible Zanu PF would lost to a troop of monkeys if apes were the only alternative. Zimbabweans are so desperate to get rid of these corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical Zanu PF thugs, they will vote for monkeys just be rid of the thugs!

  15. This damning SADC and AU election reports have created a second chance for Zimbabwe to implement the democratic reforms designed to end the dysfunctional autocratic system Zanu PF imposed on the nation. The 2008 to 2013 GNU was supposed to implement the reforms but failed to implement even one token reform.

It would be unforgivable if the nation was to waste this second chance to implement the reforms by appointing Zanu PF and CCC leaders to carry out the task. They failed to do so last time out of greed and incompetence, of course, it would be insane to expect them to do any better - greed and incompetence are deep rooted and cannot be cast off like a snake's coat!

Zanu PF and CCC must not be in the NTA, period!

  17. Tshabangu insisted the chaotic process held on June 18 this year to choose CCC candidates to participate in harmonised elections was fundamentally flawed and money exchanged hands to overturn results produced from an engagement led by the Candidates Independent Selection Panel (CISP).

"Ostallos and his self-appointed friends put aside the list of democratically elected party candidates as announced by CISP.

"They replaced these popular and legitimate candidates with their girlfriends, family members, and virtually anybody who bid highest price for inclusion to this closely knit group of corrupt and now filthy rich individuals.

"Ostallos and his now filthy rich group of friends should be warned, that we are coming for them. We are determined to restore democracy in the party, with the same vigour we seek to bring about democracy in Zimbabwe and indeed in Africa."

What sparked the latest furore was Tshabangu's letter to Parliament dated October 3, 2023, purporting to recall CCC MPs alleging they had ceased to be party cadres.

The nation, more so CCC, should be piling the pressure on SADC leaders to make sure they do not sweep the damning SADC election report under the carpet and grant Zanu PF legitimacy. Those SADC leaders who want the report swept under the carpet must be gleefully rubbing their hands to see the chaos in CCC.

First CCC members were falling over each other to take the oath of office and their gravy train seats even after SADC and AU had condemned the election process. And now they are back to fighting amongst themselves, a very common occurrence in MDC opposition’s 23 year history.

Those SADC leaders who want the report swept under the carpet would once again argue, “It is all very well to deny Zanu PF legitimacy, but who are we going to work with to get the democratic reforms implemented? Surely not Chamisa and company!”

Like it or not CCC are undermining the nation’s fight for SADC not deny Zanu PF legitimacy and create the NTA. CCC is once again proving a curse and not a blessing to our cause for real democratic change just as the MDC was a curse during the 2008 to 2013 GNU.

    ReplyDelete
  18. @ Zayne

The question you should have asked is: would the nation have been spared to curse of rigged elections and bad governance if MDC leaders had implemented the democratic reforms during the 2008 to 2013 GNU? The answer to which is a resounding YES!

And therefore to have forfeited the chance to end the dictatorship all these last 10 years for the sake of SADC and AU having the flaws and illegalities to report about is therefore a very foolish move, to say the least.

Indeed, if failing to implement reforms during the last GNU was a clever move, as you are now suggesting, does that mean CCC should not implement any reforms should SADC afford us another GNU/NTA by denying Zanu PF legitimacy. After all we would want future SADC and AU election observer reports too to have same glaring flaws and illegalities!

As for Zimbabwe remaining a failed state and all the tragic human suffering that entails - that is a small price to pay for damning SADC elections reports. No wonder the country is a mess, we really have some mentally challenged people in our midst!

We have just had yet another rigged elections, we are not going to cure ourselves of this curse of rigged elections and bad governance without implementing the reforms. This is why reforms must remain on the national agenda until they are implemented.

“We cannot out source out fight for democratic change!”

This is rich coming from the man whom Zimbabweans have risked life and limb to elect into power on the understanding he and his MDC/CCC friends will implement the democratic reforms to end the Zanu PF dictatorship. After 23 years they have not only sold out on reforms but have been participating in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy out of greed. Tendai Biti knows all about the sheer futility of participating in these flawed elections.

“Look, you can't keep on participating in flawed electoral processes that serve to give big benefits to dictators such as Robert Mugabe. Mugabe has perfected the art of winning elections. So it will be very foolish for the opposition to continue legitimizing these sham elections which don't deliver. This country will go through a serious economic crisis in 2020 caused by Zanu PF. And yet, this is the only country where a government doesn't perform, it is encouraged by a super majority in parliament,” said Tendai Biti in a 2015 interview with Isaac Mugabi.

“So you can't continue subjecting Zimbabweans to processes where their hopes just get crushed.”

Democratic change should have happened in 2013, at the latest, if MDC leaders had not sold out. The truth is CCC will never implement any reforms because they are participating in flawed elections for a share of the spoils of power. It is for the people of Zimbabwe to wake up to the political reality that CCC are now hunting with the Zanu PF hounds and paying lip service to running with the povo hare!

  26. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has officially launched a new border force to enhance border security and address issues related to undocumented foreign nationals. The launch took place in Musina, near the Beitbridge border post with Zimbabwe.

Ramaphosa emphasized that the increasing number of undocumented foreign nationals has exacerbated social and economic challenges in South Africa. Immigration is a prominent political issue in the country, and managing its borders has become disorganized.

Until now, border control was divided among four different government departments and subject to numerous legislative acts. The establishment of the Border Management Authority aims to streamline border policing under a single command and control structure.

This new agency will work alongside the defense force and be responsible for monitoring South Africa's various ports of entry, including seaports, land borders, and international airports.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Zimbabwe's President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who held talks with Ramaphosa to foster neighborly relations.

Ramaphosa stressed that the Border Management Authority is crucial for harnessing the benefits of the African Continental Free Trade Area, combating illegal migration, and addressing human trafficking concerns.

What is outrageous here is Ramaphosa is the one behind ignoring the damning SADC election report for the sore purpose of imposing Zanu PF on the people of Zimbabwe. And meanwhile he is taking all the steps to seal the border with Zimbabwe to make sure Zimbabweans cannot run away to SA no matter how tough things get.How cynical is that!

“You’re always blaming the opposition politicians who are the victims of Zanu Pf misrule and exonerating Zanu Pf leadership. You’re slimy!”

    How naive and tediously idiotic!

By the late 1990s the people of Zimbabwe came to the conclusion that Zanu PF was a party corrupt, incompetent and murderous thugs who did not care about the freedoms and rights of the ordinary people and were dragging the nation deeper and deeper into this hell-on-earth. Most significantly the nation came to the consensus that as long as Zanu PF retained the carte blanche dictatorial powers to rig elections, the nation will be stuck with the regime. The nation needed to implement democratic changes to take away Zanu PF’s dictatorial powers.

Morgan Tsvangirai and his friends launched the MDC on the promise they would implement the democratic changes the nation was dying for as the party’s name implied - Movement for Democratic Change. The people have risked life and limb to elect MDC into power.

After 23 years, 5 of which in the GNU, MDC/CCC leaders have not only failed to implement even one reform but worse still they are now participating in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy out of greed.

Mugabe bribed the MDC leaders with the trappings of high office, the ministerial limos, the generous salaries and allowances, the US$4 million mansion for Save, etc., etc. In return, MDC leaders forget about the reforms. MDC/CCC have been participating in flawed elections for the same reason - greed.

Of course, it is right and proper that MDC/CCC must be held to democratic account for selling out on reforms. There is a mountain of evidence of MDC/CCC leaders sold out and yet we still have some people who still consider the sell out demigods who have done nothing wrong. They are “victims of Zanu PF misrule!” how nauseating! How does getting the US$60 000 plus US$40 000 car and housing allowance respectively, etc., etc., make these CCC MPs “victims”?

The MDC/CCC were elected to implement the reforms for Pete’s sake. Who, according to you, should the people hold to account for the lack of progress on the matter? No wonder Zimbabwe is a failed state, we do have some mentally challenged citizens and, worst of all, they have the right to vote!
