The Zimbabwe electorate’s political activity is like a grass fire it will flare up but very quickly die down completely because there was not much to burn. Similarly there is not much in depth knowledge of any substantive issues for a sustained debate with the run of the mill Zimbabwean voter.
“We lacked unity of purpose and are divided in our thoughts. We were supposed to rebut and refute all elections. ZEC would have seen that its elections were a sham. We lack strategic thinking!” argued one in one of my whatsApp groups.
The group used to have as many as fifty posted messages every hour as the political activity reach its peak with the voting and announcing of the results of 28 August 2023.
No doubt the we in “we lacked unity and strategic thinking” is referring to CCC wildebeest herd and not the party leaders. The later have known all along that these elections were flawed and that participating would only be giving legitimacy to Zanu PF.
Leaders like Tendai Biti and David Coltart admitted of the sheer futility of participating in these flawed elections and have, no doubt, tried to talk their colleagues into stopping this madness. But when they realised their advice was falling on deaf ears, they too decided to join in.
“The (2013) electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility,” confessed David Coltart in his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe.
It should be noted here that CCC leaders still went on to stoically take their oath of office and their seats on the gravy train even when SADC and AU had condemned the 2023 elections as a sham. Of course, CCC leaders had all along the election process were sham and having this confirmed changed nothing; they were after the few gravy train seats Zanu PF was offering as bait, do not care the elections were a sham and a sell out of the national cause of ending the curse of rigged elections and bad governance.
In 2018 Mnangagwa created POLAD; a superfluous body of all the losing presidential candidates who publicly endorsed him as the legitimate winner; to increase the opposition bait. POLAD members were pampered with a US$60 000 twin cab truck each plus other freebies.
Indeed, the POLAD freebies opened the flood gates of opposition wannabes Zanu PF increased the nomination fees for presidential candidates from US$ 1 000 to US$ 20 000 just to dampen the flow. There were 11 presidential candidates in this 2023 rat race.
Mnangagwa and Chamisa garnered 52% and 44% of the votes respectively, according to ZEC, and the remaining 9 candidates shared the 4%. No doubt most, if not all the 9 losers, would happily endorse that the 2023 elections were free, fair and credible; contradicting the SADC, AU and all the other election observers’ reports; just to secure their POLAD freebies.
Nelson Chamisa and his CCC friends and the rest who have been participating in these flawed elections are just the modern day Abel Muzorewa and Ndabaningi Sithole and their followers. The later participated in the 1978 Zimbabwe - Rhodesia elections knowing fully well that the arrangement rendered blacks second class citizens, at best, and that doing so would undermine the fight for independence and equality. They went ahead and participated regardless out of greed, just as Chamisa and doing now.
“Thinking”, much less “strategic thinking”, is a luxury that the wildebeest herd does not have and never had. If they did then alarm bells would have started ringing when it became clear MDC/CCC leaders had not only sold out by failing to implement even one reform in 23 years, 5 of which in the GNU but had abandoned reforms out of greed.
Zimbabwe’s hope of ending the Zanu PF dictatorship is not in the hands of the corrupt and breathtakingly incompetent CCC nor in the naive and ignorant electorate. The nation’s salvation/ damnation is in the hands of SADC leaders.
The SADC and AU election observer teams’ damning reports are crystal clear, Zimbabwe’s 23 August 2023 election process was so flawed and illegal it could not produce a legitimate government. If SADC leaders up hold the reports and deny Zanu PF legitimacy, this will force the country to have a new GNU as happened in 2008 to 2013.
One hopes the new GNU will implement all the democratic reforms, unlike the last one which failed to implement even one reform, and finally cure the nation of the curse of rigged elections and bad governance.
However, if the SADC leaders should decide to water down the damning report, by reducing the report’s serious flaws and illegalities into mere “challenges” as President Cyril Ramaphosa has already done. Then Zanu PF would be let off the hook and granted political legitimacy. And Zimbabwe will be condemned to another five more years of this corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship, the failed state and all else that entails.
President Ramaphosa and his ANC friend passed a party congress resolution last November “not to allow regime change in Zimbabwe”. The ANC regime is clearly hell bent on granting Zanu PF legitimacy, even to the extend of doing so regardless of SADC’s own election observers having stated categorically that Zanu PF rigged the 23 August 2023 elections!
He should have also said that ANC in SA in hell bent on imposing Zanu PF on Zimbabwe even after both SADC and AU had said Zanu PF rigged the 2023 elections. ANC made a party resolution to stop regime change in Zimbabwe and now it is getting its wish and we, the people of Zimbabwe, have said nothing about it! Shame on us!
ReplyDeleteNigel, you have never accepted that Zanu PF has ever rigged elections not even the 2008 elections which both SADC and AU have rejected and Zanu PF grudgingly accepted and went into the GNU. You will never accept that both SADC and AU have rejected these 2023 elections either. That is you!
ReplyDeleteIf SADC and AU said the election were flawed and illegal, does that mean they were free, fair and credible to you?
If elections are not free, fair and credible it means they rigged and it is utterly meaningless to waste time on mere syntax.
@ Shamu
ReplyDelete“I wasn’t going to respond to you but just want you to try and come on board. Be a bit more open-minded and inclusive and variable in what you say or even creative and fun. Kwete kuzotuka vanhu futi. Talk to Chipeneti uyu ari online.”
You said I had tunnel vision, substantiate it and stop giving me feeble excuses!!
Zimbabwe is a failed state because we have many people who have the intellect of Boxer, the horse in Animal Farm, whose motto was “Napoleon is always right!” Mugabe is alway right! Chamisa Chete Chete! They are hard wired to defend the everything the leaders say and do to the extend of calling all those who dare to differ with their Great Leader public enemy number one.
I will express my views freely and will never be silenced by those who treat mere mortals as infallible demigods who must never be held to account, to hide their own intellectual deficiencies.
Boxer took as long to learn the first four letters of the alphabet as others took to learn all 26 letters. He took just as long again to mastered the next four but by then he had forgotten the first 4! When you cannot think for yourself it makes sense to let others do the thinking for you. “Napoleon is always right!” made perfect sense to him. At least he had the horse sense not to impose the foolishness on others!
This is just a vicious cycle!
ReplyDeleteIn 2018 he said MDC A had stringent measures to stop Zanu PF rigging these elections. He started complaining of Zanu PF rigging the elections the day after the voting was done. Chamisa was warned that CCC should not go into the elections without first implementing the democratic reforms. He dismissed the warning claiming he had plugged all the vote rigging loop holes before the elections and now he says Zanu PF rigged the elections.
The truth is Chamisa and company knew that Zanu PF was rigging these elections and that participating without first implementing reforms would only give Zanu PF legitimacy. MDC/CCC has participated regardless out of greed. MDC/CCC has failed to implement even one token reform to stop the rigging in 23 years for the same reason - greed.
This is a vicious cycle but one fuelled by greed. And it is for the people themselves to end this madness and they do so by opening their eyes to the reality that CCC leaders are sell out who are now keeping Zanu PF in power out of greed. The people must stop being so naive and gullible to believe all these nonsensical winning in rigged elections strategies whose primary purpose is to hide the real reason MDC/CCC participate in these flawed elections - greed.
So you are tried of being told that CCC is selling out on reforms and free and fair elections but you are not tired of the reality of yet another rigged election after 43 years of rigged elections. It goes to show you have your priorities up side down always frothing over trivial matters and ignoring the real big issues! It is to do with this "Napoleon is always right!" Boxer mentality. The Chamisa chete chete! mentality.
ReplyDeleteYou are not concerned Chamisa conned the nation into participating in yet another rigged elections your number concern is that Chamisa must not be held to account for all his lies.
Well he will be held to account and I am not concerned about massaging your misplaced ego and .....
Encouraging people to think for themselves is not agitating for a rebellion. You clearing have no clue what I said but like all who pretend to know you just making a knee jerk reaction and condemning what I said!
ReplyDelete@ Mahere
ReplyDelete“The election was flawed - that's what must be conceded first. Don't approbate and reprobate.”
This is rich coming from some one who has been participating in these flawed elections since 2018 knowing fully when the process is flawed and that by participating you are giving Zanu PF legitimacy. Even after SADC and AU had dismissed the 2023 elections as flawed and illegal, CCC leaders still went ahead to take their oath of office and their gravy train seats. Was that you way of “conceding” the elections were flawed?
Some SADC leaders, notably President Cyril Ramaphosa are fighting tooth and nail for an excuse to disregard the SADC and AU damning reports so they can grant Zanu PF political legitimacy. The very fact that all the opposition have taken up their seats in parliament, senate and local council has made the task of disregarding the reports that much easier!
Zimbabwe is still stuck with this Zanu PF dictatorship because MDC/CCC leaders have sold out on implementing the democratic reforms. Chamisa and company have been running with the povo hare by day and hunting with the Zanu PF hounds by night. But by defying SADC and AU damning report on these 2023 elections, CCC are now hunting with the Zanu PF hounds day and night!
The last liberation war failed to bring peace, freedom and liberty, what makes you think the next one will do any better?
ReplyDelete@ Chirasa
ReplyDelete“Today as I was driving one of my clients from DRC to some where. I asked him, the Western type of democracy has failed here in Africa, what other options are available? He answered me the way he thinks. Whats the way forward Africans☹️”
Zimbabwe has never held free, fair and credible elections ever since the country’s independence in 1980 and so it beggars belief that anyone should say democracy has not worked for the country.
Similarly some people have saying the nation does not want another GNU because the last one failed when they clearly have no clue it was those tasked to implement the reforms, Zanu PF and MDC, who sold out. Appoint competent individuals in the new GNU and they will implement the reforms and get the nation out of the mess!
@ Usangakh
ReplyDelete“Zanu pf nunonyatsoiziva here imi. hairamwirwe sadza. in the event that ccc boycotts elections, zanu will create multiple 'opposition' parties that will contest and it will use them to legitimise itself.. even allowing the created opposition to win some seats.”
There is a difference between participating in a flawed election with hope to effect change and participating knowing fully well you will never effect change and that participating will only give vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy and perpetuating the dictatorship. And still you do it out of greed; you are after the few gravy train seats plus the POLAD freebies the regime is offering as bait.
To take up their gravy train seats even after SADC and AU had said the elections process was so flawed it could not produce a legitimate result and thus giving Zanu PF a boost is unforgivable. If SADC leaders grant Zanu PF legitimacy then CCC leaders must accept their role in this treasonous betrayal!
@ Usangakh
ReplyDelete“When dealing with Zanu pf, the least you should do is blame the victim. By incessantly blaming the opposition, you are sanitising zanu pf and falling right into the pit they dug for you.”
The people of Zimbabwe have risked all to elect MDC/CCC leaders into power for the express purpose of implementing the democratic reforms and end the Zanu PF dictatorship. After 23 years, 5 of which in the GNU MDC/CCC leaders have not only failed to implement even one token reform but worse still have abandon reforms to participate in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy for the sake of a few gravy train seats given out as bait. To hide their greed, they have been telling the people CCC has devised winning in rigged elections strategies.
To even suggest that MDC/CCC leaders are the victims only goes to show you have no clue what is going on. So you think Fadzayi Mahere and company were coerced to take up their seat on the gravy train and be arm twisted to take up their US$60 000 car allowance, etc., etc.?
The real victims here are the ordinary Zimbabweans who are at the coal face of failed state after of these years of corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship. The dictatorship could have ended by 2013, at the latest, if MDC leaders had not sold out by failing to implement reforms.
In the first 20 years Zanu PF thugs were allowed to do as they damn well pleased because Zimbabweans treated them as demigods who could do no wrong. It took 20 years to open our eyes and accept Mugabe and company were fallible mortals but by them Zanu PF was deeply entrenched into power. The people switched their blind loyalty from Zanu PF to MDC/CCC with the same disastrous consequences. God only knows how long it is going to take for some people to open their eyes and realise Chamisa and company too are fallible mortals!
Of course, it is very sad and tragic that the country is a failed state because we have some of the most naive and gullible electorate on earth. Chamisa and company are the “victims” of the Zanu PF dictatorship! How naive can one be!
@ Welly
ReplyDelete“@Wilbert Mukori your narrative is now getting monotonous. Explanations have been proffered a zillion times why CCC took up the council and parliament seats. You don’t seem to tire in asking the same questions over and over again. Just tell us, if CCC had boycotted the elections, what benefit would it be? Would you have had your much hyped SADC and AU reports?”
The really reason why MDC/CCC have been participating in these flawed elections was given by David Coltart.
Greed!
What will it take to open your eyes to the reality that MDC/CCC failed to implement even one reform in 23 years and have been participating in these flawed elections for one reason and one reason only - GREED!
What you should be asking these MDC/CCC leaders is what has the nation benefit from your participation to give Zanu PF legitimacy and perpetuate the dictatorship.
The trouble with people like you is have Boxer, the horse in Animal Farm, “Napoleon is always right!” mentality. Chamisa chete chete! And so you are locked into this believe that Chamisa cannot do anything wrong. Even when you are confronted with the evidence CCC are participating in these flawed elections out of greed, you refuse to accept it. Worst of all in your foolishness you are lashing out at all those who dare question Chamisa chete chete!
“Would you have had your much hyped SADC and AU reports?” So MDC leaders failed to implement the democratic reforms during the 2008 to 2013 GNU and thus end the curse of rigged elections, so that SADC can flaws and illegalities in the 2023 elections? How any one can be so shallow, thick and slow beggars belief.
No wonder Zimbabwe is a failed state, with an electorate this thick; we really are doomed!
@ Benjamin
ReplyDeleteIt is the Boxer, the horse in Animal Farm, "Napoleon is always right!" Chamisa chete chete! Mentality Boxer could not think for himself an so he accepted that Napoleon would do all the thinking for him. Our Zimbabwean friends have taken this one steps further: they have not only accept that Chamisa does all the thinking and he is always right, they have taken it upon themselves to defend what he has said. The only trouble is they are too stupid to realise that he is fallible and therefore have founding themselves defending the indefensible and making complete arse of themselves.
When you are in hole, stop digging! Having make an arse of themselves they have tried to even harder to prove they are right defending the indefensible. In their desperation they have often resorted to foul language and all manner of dirty tactics.
Zanu PF is already pointing to CCC leaders taking up their gravy train seats as proof Zimbabweans have accepted the 23 August 2023 elections were free, fair and credible!
No one with half a brain accepts the nonsensical argument “Would you have had your much hyped SADC and AU reports if CCC had not participated in the elections?” Of course, it is nonsense!
So MDC leaders failed to implement the democratic reforms during the 2008 to 2013 GNU and thus end the curse of rigged elections, because they wanted SADC to have flaws and illegalities to uncover in the 2023 elections? How any one can be so shallow, thick and slow beggars belief.
@ David Mugadza
ReplyDelete“After saying this, the question is: What are you offering dear, to liberate Zimbabwe from this political, economic and social comatose……. because Zimbabwe is not ZANU PF/CCC?”
Zimbabwe is failed state because we have had the great misfortune of having corrupt and incompetent buffoons in both the ruling party and the opposition, this is the obvious reason. The second reason, which is not so obvious, is that we have some of the naive, gullible and ignorant electorate on earth; they are the ones who have kept the buffoons in power all these last 43 years.
By educating the electorate so that they can finally see that MDC/CCC leaders sold out by failing to implement even one reform in 23 years and are they ones keeping Zanu PF in power by participating in flawed elections out of greed this will break the vicious cycle we are stuck in. The people will realise CCC are no long fighting in povo’s corner and thus force them to accept the need for competent leaders.
I am also fighting for democratic reforms to be implemented so that we can dismantle this autocratic system and replace it with a democratic system, drain the sewage pond and refill it with clean water. You will never get quality leaders out of this autocracy just as you will never catch quality fish in a sewage pond.
@ Bachipeneti
ReplyDeleteYou are programmed to defend Chamisa because you have Boxer, the horse in Animal Farm, “Napoleon is always right!” mentality. The horse could not think for itself and so to accepted everything Napoleon said. You too have your Chamisa chete chete mentality. I have my allegiance to facts, reality and the truth and refuse to treat a mere mortal as so infallible demigod.
You are one of those individuals who have taken their blind loyalty to Chamisa one steps further: you not only accept that Chamisa does all the thinking for you and that he is always right, you have taken it upon yourself to defend everything he has ever said and done. The only trouble is because he is fallible, you have often found yourself defending the indefensible and making complete arse of yourself.
When you are in hole, stop digging! But being the arse you have tried to even harder to prove he was right, defending the indefensible. In your desperation you have often resorted to using foul language and all manner of dirty tactics including blackmail and character assassination.
Zanu PF is already pointing to the very fact that all CCC leaders have taken up their gravy train seats as proof Zimbabweans accepted the 23 August 2023 elections as free, fair and credible! No doubt many of the losing presidential candidates will happily endorse the elections as free, fair and credible and claim their POLAD freebies.
It is a historic fact that MDC/CCC leaders sold out by failing to implement the democratic reforms and have been perpetuating the dictatorship out of greed. If you do not want to believe then this is what David Coltart said.
No one with half a brain takes the nonsensical argument CCC did the nation a great favour participating in these 2023 elections so SADC had the flaws and illegality to report about. So MDC leaders failed to implement the democratic reforms during the 2008 to 2013 GNU, missing on the golden opportunity end the curse of rigged elections, because they wanted SADC to have flaws and illegalities to uncover in the 2023 elections? Only some one who shallow, thick and slow would even such a foolish thing.
If SADC decide to get Zanu PF off the hook after the damning SADC and AU reports and grant the regime legitimacy then CCC must accept that taking up their gravy train seats out of greed played a significant part in this disastrous SADC decision. Chamisa and company’s greed will have costed the nation the golden opportunity to have a new GNU and a chance to implement ALL the democratic reforms that they should have implemented in the last GNU. Of course, they will be held to democratic account for it!
@ Mukundinashe
ReplyDelete"Calling those who are trying, buffoons it's interesting because you failed to form your own formidable one 🤣 Who therefore is a great buffoon?"
Zimbabwe was once the bread basket of the region and now the nation is depending on food aid every three or so years. We are starving in a country that is, for all practical purposes, the Biblical Garden of Eden. That is a damning testimonial to our failure to govern ourselves. I choose to call the leaders in involved buffoons, you call them what you wish. If you think I am a greater buffoon for doing so that too is your wish.
@ Welly
ReplyDelete“First, and foremost, you need to embrace reality: There is nothing called Mdc/CCC! You know you are being intentionally mischievous in a bid to promote your ill conceived poor narrative. I thought you had answered yourself when you highlighted Coltart's views why MDC did not boycott the 2008 elections.
Now, fast forward to 2023: for the same reasons, boycotting the 2023 elections would have given ED to give the other nine small parties a few seats so he "legitimately" controls the 3 pillars of state. So, in short, I would love to hear you suggest what you suggest Chamisa and his team should have done better.
Ps, at the moment CCC is being given an ear because they participated in the election, besides that they would not be considered a legitimate opposition.
Thank you for attending my remedial class, Doc. I wont charge you school fees.
SADC has reportedly given Zimbabwe three option for moving forward:
ReplyDelete1) Hold fresh elections to be supervised by SADC and UN
2) Have a NTA that will be composed of Zanu PF, CCC and civic society whose primary task will be to implement reforms and hold fresh elections.
3) Have a GNU composed of Zanu PF and CCC that will last to the next elections.
There should be a fourth option, a NTA composed of technocrats whose primary task is to implement ALL the democratic reforms to restore Zimbabwe on a democratic footing! Zanu PF and CCC are the problem and therefore cannot be the solution too!
SADC has decided: it will stand by the SADC and AU damning reports, this Zanu PF regime is illegitimate.
ReplyDeleteSADC gives Zanu PF and CCC three options:
a) Hold fresh elections supervised by SADC and UN
(Not even one reforms will be implemented and so we just kicking can down the road)
b) Form NTA composed of Zanu PF, CCC and technocrats task to implement reforms and
then hold new elections.
(Zanu PF and CCC will be there to throw the spanner in the works)
c) GNU of Zanu PF and CCC tasked to implement reforms
(The last GNU failed to implement even one reform this one will implement some,
at best)
There should be a four option:
4) NTA composed of technocrats tasked to implement ALL the democratic reforms with
no excess baggage of Zanu PF and CCC.
(Zanu PF and CCC are the problem they cannot be the solution too nor should they
be allowed to hold the nation at ransom.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1W0ijQbbPto
Any one who has looked at MDC/CCC's track record objectively will tell you of one tale after another of broken promises, of blundering from pillar to post. Yes if you compare to what Zanu PF has done CCC's track record is great but that is where the objectivity comes in. If you compared most people to the devil then the world is full of saints!
ReplyDeleteMDC/CCC leaders were elected on the promise to implement the democratic changes and end the Zanu PF dictatorship. After 23 years, 5 of which in the GNU, they not only failed to implement even one token reform but worst of all they abandoned reforms to participate in flawed elections for a share of the spoils of power. How any one with even half a brain can call CCC a beacon of hope beggars belief!
I totally agree, we the people of Zimbabwe should be clear what we want going forward. As it is we really have no clue what went wrong much less what to do about it!
ReplyDeleteSADC and AU have said the electoral process was so flawed and illegal it failed to produce a legitimate result and so it is nonsensical to say any one of these Zanu PF and CCC leaders were elected by the people. There is no legitimate government in Harare. The NTA is meant to fill in the gap whilst the nation transition back to legitimacy.
ReplyDelete@ Denny
ReplyDelete“Such ignorance at this level is puzzling. SADC Secretariat sent a communique last fortnight and clearly stated that they do not have a mandate to supervise elections in Member countries; they can only observe.
Now a whole CIZC goes to Angola to ask for something SADC has clearly stated is out of their mandate, God have mercy!!
The level of ineptitude is scary and will not dwell on it.
Why not use those resources to deepen a village dam so communities have water for gardening and water for their animals?”
SADC did not have the mandate to supervise the 2008 Global Political Agreement leading to the 2008 to 2013 GNU, one was created to deal with the crisis in Zimbabwe. Surely it will not be so difficult to create a new mandate to deal with the present crisis.
The worry thing here is for Zimbabweans to be asking SADC for the wrong thing. We do not want fresh elections only to kick the problem of rigged elections into the future. We should be looking for a solution that will deliver free, fair and credible elections not only in near future but for generations to come!
We are in this mess of rigged elections because we failed to implement any reforms even when we had the chance to do so. For Pete’s sake, let’s implement these bloody reforms!
The passion of the running up to the 2023 elections is gone as quickly as a grass fire. What is worse the populous have not had an time to review why the elections were rigged and thus failed to deliver the political and economic changes the nation is dying for.
ReplyDeleteBy failing to carryout a proper post-mortem the nation is set to repeat the same foolish mistakes such as believing in Chamisa's lies of having winning in rigged elections strategies.
Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat the same mistakes. We are a failed state and all because we refuse to learn from the past!
https://www.zimeye.net/2023/09/27/we-povo-lacked-strategic-thinking-for-electoral-victory-quick-burning-grass-fire-passion-will-never-bring-change/
No one is saying that the last GNU was perfect, it was far from it. But on the key issues of implementing reforms, it was MDC leaders who betrayed the nation in failing to implement even one token reform in 5 years!
ReplyDeleteMDC leaders were given the get-out-of-jail card during the GNU and they failed to used it. They should explain why they failed to implement even one reform in five years and not be wittering about how Zanu PF had control of all the key ministries, etc. Explain why you failed to use the card and not witter about the jail’s thick walls, razor fence, etc.
@ David
ReplyDelete“You’re always throwing 🔧 spanners in all the work whether good or bad you always come up with something opposite …”
If I do not think something is not a good idea, I say so and explain why. If you think it is a good idea, you are free to say and explain why.
You trouble is your Boxer, the horse in Animal Farm, “Comrade Napoleon is always right! mentality. The poor horse could not string one rational idea and so took refuge and comfort in letting Napoleon do all the thinking. You are doing the same; Chamisa chete, chete is always right. This is all very well if you kept your trap shut.
CCC has called for fresh elections and I have said this is not a good idea and said why. You are defending the idea for no other reason than that Chamisa said so. But since you cannot say so without exposing you Boxer mentality you accuse me of “always throwing spanners in all the works”.
Let me remind you once again I bear no blind loyalty to anyone especially an individual who has already proven to be corrupt and incompetent. Stop imposing your Boxer blinkered mentality on me.
The SADC Summit to discuss SADC election observer mission's report on the recent Zimbabwe elections has taken place. Now we await to hear what the summit decided.
ReplyDeleteThe wheel of justice turns very slowly for some of us but it turns!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfxLyyfTgZ0
The people of Zimbabwe have been waiting for this summit and we all hope it will uphold the SADC and AU reports condemning the elections as a farce. After 43 years of rigged elections this is one problem the nation must deal with by implementing the reforms! A new NTA will hopefully get this job done!
ReplyDeleteZimbabwe's 2023 elections were flawed and illegitimate and one has only to look ar the source of this story - The Herald - to see why it is trash!

ReplyDelete“For once, we have something that we agree on😅.If ever we are to have meaningful reforms, the existing political parties should be 10% involved and then the ordinary people be given the majority stake in ways to do with nation building.”
Zanu PF and CCC are the problem and it is naive to think they can ever be the solution too!
You allow them 10% of the seats in the NTA and they will see to it that many of the democratic reforms are not implemented and so the nation will be stuck with a weak and feeble political system.
If you add one teaspoon of sewage to a gallon of milk you will have a gallon on contaminated milk especially if the teaspoon of sewage had the cholera bacteria or some such deadly contaminant.
Zanu PF does not want the dictatorship dismantled, they will never reform themselves out of power. CCC have given up on reforms and are content to participate in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy for a share of the spoils of power. The two party do not want change and will only be in the NTA to undermine democratic change!
@ Muza
ReplyDelete“Obvious CCC did it thats why the situation is like this. If it had lost by now we will be on another topic you know. The idea is to prove it that we no longer want Mnangagwa at all. And even if you were in that GNU ZANU PF wouldn't let you implement something which is not on their advantage.
MDC leaders failed to implement even one democratic reform during the GNU because Mugabe bribed them with the trappings of high office; the ministerial limos, the generous salaries and allowances, US$ 4 million mansion for Save himself, etc. In return, they kick the reforms out of the window.
“Mazivanhu eMDC adzidza kudya anyerere!” boasted Zanu PF cronies when Asked MDC leaders were not implement any reforms.
MDC did not implement even one token reform during not because Zanu PF “would not let them,” but rather because Zanu PF bribed them which is a totally different kettle of fish!
“ZANU PF wouldn't let you implement something which is not on their advantage!” How thick, shallow and slow some people are. No wonder Zimbabwe is a failed state!
@ Munyaradzi
ReplyDelete“What advice did you give to Chamisa wen he was being tormented politically?”
Zimbabwe is a failed state mainly because we have been stuck with this corrupt, incompetent and murderous Zanu PF regime. The regime has rigged elections and has resisted demands for democratic reforms and accountability on the grounds that the party’s leaders fought in the liberation war and, per se, deserve the absolute right to rule the nation.
Of course, it is nonsensical claim because every Zimbabwean has the right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country regardless of whether or not they fought in the liberation war. It has been a protracted fight and when we thought we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel it turns out to be a run away freight train.
We cannot hold MDC/CCC leaders to account because “What advice did you give to Chamisa wen he was being tormented politically?”
No wonder Zimbabwe is a failed state, we really have some village idiots amongst us and, worst of all, they have the right to vote!
@ SaMaka
ReplyDelete“Just wondering if you believe in anything at all. For starters leaving your own country to go stay as a refugee and claim that your country has a matured democracy is on its own funny. For your own information Chamisa won bid as and Zimbabweans were never conned coz like always they voted for the opposition.”
So now it is all those who left the country who are to blame for Zimbabwe’s problems?
You stayed behind and yet the country is still a failed state. Why? All the useless men and women left the country, getting out of your way, and yet the country is still in a mess. The rot has got progressively worse!
I am outside Zimbabwe and salute all the Zimbabweans in the diaspora who have continued to take an active interest in what is going on in Zimbabwe and are genuinely interested in trying to stop the rot.
The solution to Zimbabwe’s problems can come from anyone, young or old, male or female, Shona or Ndebele, in Zimbabwe or outside, etc., etc. This is why everyone must be heard and their contribution measured on merit and nothing else.
As for you, smart Alec, you should wash you foul mouth. Stop blaming those in the diaspora for your own failures, if you were so smart then why is the country still in a mess. You don’t even know what “conned” mean!

ReplyDelete“Va Mukori please paChamisa makatiudza tikazvinzwa zvizere. Zvino tamirira penyuvo. You seem to have all the brains to overthrow the rogue regime. When is the official practical launch of the Wilbert Mukori Electoral Reforms Movement. I am your supporter please. Launch it soon. Leave this whatsapp space tizorova manifesto mangwanani gwanani.”
My primary purpose is to force people to snap out of their sloth-like slumber and to start thinking for themselves. If you are waiting for me to launch a party so you can follow me as blindly as you have followed Chamisa or Tsvangirai, Mnangagwa, Mugabe, etc. then you have learned nothing.
So Zimbabwe is not going to implement reforms because Wilbert Mukori did not launch a reform movement! Tsvangirai launched a Movement for Democratic Change, and yet failed to deliver even one reforms even when the party had the golden opportunity to do so. What makes you think Mukori would do any better?
Thinking for oneself ≠ following a leader much less follow blindly
CCC is now claiming that the party has done the nation a great favour in participating in these flawed and illegal 2023 election. "How else would SADC and AU have picked of the flaws and illegalities they reported about," they argue.
ReplyDeleteOf course, this is nonsense! If MDC/CCC had implemented the reforms especially during the GNU when they had the golden opportunity to do so then Zimbabwe would have cured itself of the curse of rigged elections and bad governance by 2013 at the latest! Are we to understand the party wasted this opportunity for the sake of giving SADC and AU flaws and illegalities to report about.
Worse of all, do we really want CCC in the next NTA/GNU now we know they will do us another big favour by once again not implement even one reform!

Moeletsi Mbeki, the brother of former South African president Thabo Mbeki, said that South Africa and the countries around Zimbabwe don’t care about Zimbabwe's problems because they are cannibalising and looting Zimbabwe's natural and human resources.
ReplyDeleteMbeki was speaking after Zimbabwean public intellectual Dr Ibbo Mandaza's lecture hosted by the O.R. Tambo School of Leadership.
He is right, other nations are cannibalising and looting Zimbabwe and our our leaders are doing nothing about is because they are getting a cut of the loot. The ordinary Zimbabweans who are on the coal face of the failed state are too naive and gullible to see that is going on and/or too foolish to do something to stop it!
The biggest mistake these liberation war parties are making is to think they can hang on to power on the cocktail of their liberation war exploits regardless of their post independence track record of failure and tyrannical oppression. Zanu PF has failed and it is an outrage that parties like ANC should be rallying behind Mnangagwa and, worst of all, impose the regime on us!

ReplyDelete“Zambian opposition leader, Kelvin Bufe Bwalya, sending a threat to HH using Nevers Mumba's sanctions lie.”
ZEC failed to produce something as basic as a verified voters' roll, people were frogmarched to attend Zanu PF rallies and then to vote, etc. To argue that not 100 people were killed therefore the elections were free and fair is a foolish argument only some one who does not know what constitutes free and fair elections would say.
Sanctions are not the elephant in the room because the right to a meaningful say in the governance of one's country is inalienable and must never ever be predicated on lifting of sanctions or anything else! What has the rural voter who was frogmarched in these elections got to do with the sanctions and yet he/she is the one who is paying dearly for it by being denied their most cherish right!
SADC and AU election observers were in Zimbabwe to observe the elections and judge on whether the process was free, fair and credible and the result reflected the democratic wishes of the people of Zimbabwe. How these bodies had endorsed rigged elections in the past speaks volumes of why the region and continent has blundered from pillar to post. This time the two reported on what they witnessed on the ground that some people should condemn that is itself a reflection of how some people want the rot of the past to continue!
Weighing in on the SADC record, Former Cabinet Minister Professor Jonathan Moyo said the regional bloc had evidently “moved on”.
ReplyDelete“While the final report of the Sadc Election Observation Mission (SEOM)is yet to be tabled for noting at the next Ordinary Sadc Summit scheduled for August 2024, it is safe to say that SADC has moved on regarding Zimbabwe’s 2023 harmonised general election.
“There will be no Extraordinary Ordinary Sadc Summit on SEOM’s report on Zimbabwe’s 2023 harmonised general election.
“Sadc observed the election, and prepared a report which has recommendations that Zimbabwe, as a member state, will be at liberty to review and act on or not act on in terms of its Constitution and laws, as it may be deem fit as a sovereign state!” he wrote on his official X handle.
Following recommendations made by the SEOM in its report, it will be Zimbabwe’s prerogative to act on or not act on them.
This is telling us what Professor Jonathan Moyo would want to see happen. Some of us would be very disappointed if SADC swept the SEOM report under the carpet.
Zimbabwe is a failed state because the country has failed to hold free, fair and credible elections ever since the country’s independence 43 years ago. The nation had the golden opportunity to implement the democratic reforms during the 2008 to 2013 GNU but, alas, the opportunity was wasted. The damning SEOM report, if followed through, will give the nation a second chance to have the reforms implemented; it must not be said that SADC leaders sold out!
@ Godfrey
ReplyDelete“Ok lets address points one by one to debunk the belief MDC sold out in last GNU and subsequently CCC in last election
The main reason for GNU was because of extreme violence leading to 300 odd deaths – MT was humbled to agree to GNU although he had WON the elections and RGM had conceded defeat
Did GNU produce a new reformed constitution and implemented it (I say yes although it excluded some thorny Zanu sensitive issues)
Did the GNU need an independent strong arbitrator to dilute power of one party over the other in cases of disagreement – (I say yes but none existed).”
We have gone through the GNU, produced the evidence of how MDC leaders were bribed, etc. There are those who will never ever accept that MDC leaders sold out. The choice here is to move on or be stuck in the rut!
Winning over those who refuse to open their eyes to historic facts is not worth the candle.
@ Tasha
ReplyDelete“Even if CCC had said they would not participate in the elections, do you think Zanu would care? Do you think they were not going to form a government? Blaming CCC for contesting in the elections is a no brainer. Face the elephant in the room. Zanu inokama mukaka wakakora kare.”
MDC/CCC failed to implement even one reform in 23 years for the same reasons they have been participating in these flawed elections knowing fully well they are flawed and that participating would give Zanu PF legitimacy - greed and breathtaking incompetence.
The real shock here is how some people are now coming up with this foolish narrative suggesting CCC are doing the nation a great favour participating in the flawed elections. this is not surprising when one realises these people who no clue what the the democratic reforms are, that the primary purpose of last GNU was to implement the reforms, etc.
Yes the number one problem in Zimbabwe is Zanu PF rigging the election, the nation realised this by the late 1990s. The nation has risked all to elect the opposition to implement the democratic reforms and stop Zanu PF rigging the elections. So the elephant in the room is not so much Zanu PF rigging the elections but rather why has MDC/CCC failed to implement even one reform to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections.
Zimbabwe is a failed state because we have corrupt, incompetent buffoons in positions of power and authority on both sides of the political divide, that is the obvious reason. What is not so obvious is the brain dead mob, who have no clue what is going on, who are keeping the buffoons in power! The Greeks were right, democracy demands a informed and diligent populous to work; what we have is a naive and ignorant wildebeest herd with the right to vote!
“Face the elephant in the room!” And after 23 years with not even one token reform implemented you still think Zanu PF is the elephant in the room! How shallow, thick and slow.
President Thabo Mbeki and the ANC government played a major role in imposing Zanu PF following the rigged elections of 2008. What is most disheartening is that President Ramaphosa is doing the same thing again in defiance of the regional and continental bodies who have dismissed the 2023 elections as a farce.
ReplyDeleteZimbabwe and the whole SADC regional must not allow ANC to once again ride roughshod over us!
Ramaphosa is hell-bent on imposing Mnangagwa on us just as Mbeki imposed Mugabe. Enough is enough!

SA is fast becoming just another failed African country, it is not there yet but they are getting there, and the knee jerk reaction is to blame foreigners!
ReplyDeleteThe need for Zimbabwe to sort out its perennial problem of rigged elections and bad governance is more urgent now than ever. Ramaphosa will impose Zanu PF today and tomorrow will be kicking Zimbabweans out of SA! We should not let Ramaphosa get away with this!
@ Mabhena
ReplyDeleteInteresting.
It is important to remind ourselves what SEOM report said; that the Zimbabwe elections were so flawed and illegal the process failed to meet Zimbabwe’s own legal requirements, the region’s guidelines on elections and accepted international standards. It was not only SADC who dismissed the election as a sham, AU and most of the international bodies did the same.
Zanu PF’s reaction to the SEOM’s report was to attack the messenger but that did not damage in any way the message, the report. As a consequence of this damning reports most of the leaders worldwide did not congratulate Mnangagwa much less attend his inauguration. Like it or not the sham election did not produce a legitimate government.
The SADC Troika on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation meeting did not spell out that the Zanu PF regime is illegitimate just as it did not say it is legitimate. It is really up to SADC to decide what must be done if a member state fails to hold free, fair and credible elections.
Surely there must be consequences for failing to hold free, fair and credible elections. It will be absurd for SADC to sweep SEOM’s report under the carpet.

SADC has intervened in member countries on many occasions in the past notable in DRC, Madagascar, and Zimbabwe itself after the 2008 rigged elections. To therefore, suggestion that the regional body is helpless to act is not true.
If Morgan Tsvangirai and his fellow MDC leaders had not "ran away from victory in 2008" Tsvangirai would have been president!
ReplyDeleteThe lack of quality leaders in CCC is a reality that must not be ignored.
If SADC was to up hold the SADC election observer mission's report and there is anew NTA in Zimbabwe, we must make sure competent men and women are appointed to implement ALL the democratic reforms. The NTA must not be burdened with Zanu PF and CCC leaders who will have nothing of substance to contribute!

ReplyDeleteYou have defended CCC and yet has failed to name even one reform they have implemented in 23 years, 5 of which in the GNU. Zanu PF rigged these 2023 elections because MDC/CCC have failed to implement the reforms.
You have no clue what constitute free and fair elections, why we need reforms, etc. All you do is defend MDC/CCC leaders no matter what. You do not even know that it is the duty of every citizen to be informed on all matters affecting the nation and to hold those in power to account. You have not only failed in your duty to hold MDC/CCC to account but worse still in your stupidity you want to silence all who dare hold MDC/CCC leaders to account.
All those in public office be they Zanu PF or MDC/CCC are accountable to the people of Zimbabwe. That is not negotiable!
