MDC's RELOAD road-map is the road to nowhere - with Zanu PF, we are going nowhere N Garikai

MDC is a party of corrupt and incompetent individuals; I did not expect the party’s promised road-map plan, Road to Economic Recovery, Legitimacy, Openness And Democracy (RELOAD), to be worth much. I was right, it is a road-map from nowhere and going nowhere else!

Chamisa said that the party will exert both political and diplomatic pressure on the government so as to reclaim its July 30, 2018, elections victory. This is just a lead balloon that will never ever fly; no nation will ever support him in that quest.

SADC, AU and such odd balls as China and Russia either endorsed the Zanu PF election victory outright. Or had to confined their report on the elections to the peaceful campaign period and said nothing about the glaring flaws and illegalities such as the failure to produce a verified voters’ roll, to justify their thumbs up. No amount of diplomatic pressure from MDC will force this lot to switch and endorse Chamisa as the winner.

The Americans, EU, Commonwealth and other nations have dismissed the elections as a farce. “The electoral commission lacked full independence and appeared to not always act in an impartial manner,” stated the EU Mission report.

“The final results as announced by the Electoral Commission contained numerous errors and lacked adequate traceability, transparency and verifiability. Finally, the restrictions on political freedoms, the excessive use of force by security forces and abuses of human rights in the post-election period undermined the corresponding positive aspects during the pre-election campaign. As such, many aspects of the 2018 elections in Zimbabwe failed to meet international standards.”

So Chamisa expect the EU, Americans, etc. to accept his claim as the winner even though his figure contained the same “numerous errors and lacked adequate traceability, etc.” as ZEC’s figures. Chamisa failed to produce all the relevant V11 forms, giving the summary of the vote count for each polling station, just as ZEC failed to do.

"Legitimacy is an issue - last year's elections were illegal, and not free and fair. All reasonable observers concede that," admitted David Coltart, MDC Alliance Treasurer General.

In short MDC know that Zanu PF rigged last year’s election and therefore the regime is illegitimate. Both Zanu PF and MDC know that the mandate to rule and legitimacy is a gift the people of Zimbabwe can confer in a free, fair and credible elections. What MDC is proposing is declare the illegitimate Zanu PF regime legitimate in return for a share of the spoils of power.

Chamisa called for the formation of a “National Transitional Mechanism” (NTM): variation of the 2008 to 2013 GNU; in which Nelson Chamisa and a few other MDC leaders are expected to hold cabinet positions.

MDC is once again promising that the NTM will implement “comprehensive reform” to ensure the next elections are free, fair and credible. One has to doubt MDC’s sincerity given that the party has not exactly condemned last year’s rigged elections; other than disagreement over the presidential race result MDC has never condemned the denial of 3 million in the diaspora the vote, the failure to produce a verified voters’ roll etc.

Besides, even if MDC wanted the reforms implemented this time, it is Zanu PF who has the real power and they will never reform themselves out of power. In the 2008 GNU MDC had the majority in cabinet and parliament plus the backing of SADC who too wanted the reforms implemented. In the NTM, it will Zanu PF that has the majority in cabinet and 2/3 majority in parliament.

What is more, Zanu PF knows that MDC leaders will participate in the next elections even if not even one reform is implemented, for the same reason they participated in 2013 and last year’s elections – greed.

If Zanu PF is still in power come 2023, be it on its own or in some power sharing arrangement, we can be certain the party will rig that year’s elections too.

The only realistic way forward is for Zanu PF step down so the country can finally implement the democratic reforms to ensure free, fair and credible elections. The road-map MDC is proposing will not get us anywhere and we should not waste time on gimmicks!

“I do not know what we have to say or do to get those in authority here to get them to understand that if they do nothing, Zimbabwe is headed for a political storm which could change everything or even sink the ship. I am regarded as a perpetual optimist, I am not really as I think quite rationally, but I always try to put forward a solution or way forward that I think is in the national interest,” you say.

“What am I talking about? Right now we have fuel queue's like I have never seen before, we have electricity outages for 18 hours a day. Last week I learned of massive corruption at the GMB which has revealed that the maize stocks are simply not there and furthermore, what is there is unfit even for livestock consumption. A real panic is on to get maize here and fast. But at the same time, prices for everything are being set at an exchange rate of 8 or 12 to 1 or even more.”
You were not being rational much less acting in the nation’s interest when you and your fellow MDC leaders failed to implement even one reform during the 2008 to 2013 GNU! For the last 18 months you have praised Mnangagwa and Mthuli Ncube and would not see the two for the corrupt, incompetent and voter rigging thug and the big-headed Professor they are respectively. Even now with the benefit of hindsight you still fail to see the serious mess your blundering incompetence has landed us into. You are simpleton with a large ego. Zimbabwe would be better off if you would just shut up!

Mnangagwa is just a incompetent, corrupt and murderous thug who is in power only because he rigged the elections. Eddie Cross has praised Mnangagwa this far only because Cross is just a simpleton with a large ego but no brain! The country should have avoided the storm Eddie is talking about if the MDC idiots had implemented the reforms designed to stop Zanu PF rigging elections.

  3. As long as Zimbabwe remains a pariah state ruled by incompetent, corrupt and vote rigging thugs the country will never get out of this economic and political mess. The idea that Zanu PF will ever reform itself out of office is laughable.

If Zanu PF is still in office in 2023 then the party will see to it that not even one reform in implemented and the party will rig that year's elections as readily as it has rig past elections.
Nelson Chamisa et al know the body they are proposing will never implement any reforms. What they are after is a chance to get back on the gravy train. MDC leaders sold-out during the 2008 GNU by failing to get even one reform implemented and they are now at it again.

It is comforting that there are a growing number of Zimbabweans who are aware of the sell-out game MDC leaders are playing. It will be unforgivable is we allowed MDC to mislead the nation once again with this foolish RELOAD nonsense.

Zanu PF rigged last year’s elections, anywhere else in the world the party would be arrested for high treason. The least we can do is ask the regime to step down. To reward the thugs with high office is insane!

  4. Chamisa to explain RELOAD in Masvingo!

Zimbabwe is stuck in this political and economic mess because for 39 years the country has failed to hold free, fair and credible elections. MDC had the golden opportunity to implement the reforms designed to stop Zanu PF rigging but have failed to get even one reform implemented.

We are being told that "comprehensive reforms will be implemented as part of this RELOAD plan. There is nothing in the plan to suggest this is nothing but the hot air promises we have heard in the past. Why should Zanu PF reform themselves out of office?

The only realistic hope of getting the reform implemented is to accept that Zanu PF rigged last year's elections and demand the regime step down. This RELOAD will help get Chamisa and friends back on the gravy train and nothing else!

  5. The violence Minister Moyo was subjected to was nothing compared to his "military assisted transition". That was high treason! Why was he and his fellow putsch never arrested!

  6. Many people have dismissed Nelson Chamisa for being childish and it is easy to see why. It is one thing for him to be claiming that he won the elections but quite another to expect the EU or Americans to do so when they have dismissed the whole elections as a farce because they was no verified voters' roll, the whole election was not transparent, etc., etc. They know Chamisa does not have a verified voters' roll, he cannot produce all the V11 forms to prove where he got his 2.6 million votes, etc. and still childlike still expect them to declare him the winner.

As for SADC and the AU, they have accepted the flawed electoral process and that means accepting ZEC's results and the Constitutional Court's ruling.

Chamisa's diplomatic charm offensive will irritate his listeners, to say the least! Instead of getting any of the foreign nations to side with him they will rather support the status quo given the nightmare prospect of a Chamisa administration!

  7. "We're going to have a peaceful and radical engagement with the problems of our country including confronting what has to be confronted in terms of the constitution. The constitution allows for a demonstration. Leaders are changed through political pressure, and also through an election. Where an election fails to do its mandate, political pressure becomes a necessity as in our circumstances," said Chamisa.

The MDC leader said they would invite trade unions, churches, and like-minded parties to "come together to build political pressure using peaceful citizen action."

Zanu PF rigged last year’s elections creating this constitutional crisis of the election failing to produce a legitimate regime. The idea that Zanu PF and MDC can agree to share the spoils of power and declare their political marriage of convenience legitimate of an outrage. This Zanu PF regime is illegitimate on account last year’s elections were rigged and including Chamisa and a few MDC leaders in the regime will not make the regime legitimate.

Zimbabwe is in this hell-on-earth situation because for the last 39 years the country has never held free, fair and credible elections, the only basis for good governance. To get out of this mess the country must end this curse of rigged elections and pariah state and that starts by implementing the democratic reforms. A Zanu PF control government cannot be trusted to implement the reforms as the 2008 to 2013 GNU showed. Zanu PF must step down to allow the political space for a body that will be tasked to implement the reforms.

MDC is just wasting the nation’s time with its foolish proposal of a Zanu PF and MDC transition authority. All Chamisa and company wants is a chance to get back on the gravy train. The people of Zimbabwe have waited for 39 years for free, fair and credible elections we must not disappoint them this time.

  8. What diplomatic pressure can MDC exert on anyone? The international community is divided into two camps; those like AU and SADC who have endorsed the Zanu PF election victory, they have accept the election process and they are not going to change their position just to please Chamisa. Then there are those like the EU and the rest who have condemned the election as a farce, they will not reverse their decision either.

The people of Zimbabwe must reject this plan because other than allowing Zanu PF and MDC leaders share the spoils of power it offers nothing for them. Zimbabwe economic is in a mess because the country is pariah state ruled by corrupt and vote rigging thugs and no one wants to do business with thugs. Adding Chamisa and two or three other MDC leaders in the mix will not change the pariah status of the regime.

There is nothing to guarantee the new political arrangement will implement the reforms and deliver free, fair and credible elections. The same Zanu PF and MDC leaders failed to implement even one reform during the last GNU; what is there to say they will do any better now!

Zanu PF must step down to allow an independent body to implement the democratic reforms. This is the only sure way to make sure next elections are free, fair and credible. MDC's plan is a waste of time and must be discarded.

  9. First there was power cuts and now it is sewage overflow at Mugabe Airport.

Until we sort out our bad governance problem Zimbabwe will continue to sink deeper and deeper into the abyss!

  10. Harare City Council has increased its fees for clamping and towing vehicles by 1000 percent following the approval of a supplementary budget.

Thursday’s budget approval means motorists will now be charged $500 (R7000) for wheel-clamping of light vehicles, up from $40 (R550), while tow-away fees have been raised from $60 (R800) to $700 (R9700), Pindula News reported on Friday.

    The hyperinflation is here!
