"MDC does not discuss strategies on twitter" - it has none - dare you to name just one! P Guramatunhu

Opposition MDC President Nelson Chamisa has refused to divulge his party’s strategy and plans on social media.

Chamisa was responding to a Twitter user who asked for a way forward in relation to the ever sinking economy.

Anyone who believes MDC has any strategy for anything other than how to sell-out and get on the gravy train by hook and by crook is naïve. We have all heard of such claims as “MDC has stringent measures to stop Zanu PF rigging elections!” And yet when push came to shove it turned out the party did not even have the common sense to demand the ZEC produced something as basic as a verified voters’ role as is required by the law!

“MDC has the key to legitimacy and economic recovery!” Chamisa has often claimed in the party’s desperate effort to force Mnangagwa to form a power sharing arrangement. Chamisa is lying, he has no such keys!

"Legitimacy is an issue - last year's elections were illegal, and not free and fair. All reasonable observers concede that," admitted David Coltart, MDC Alliance Treasurer General.

Mnangagwa and this Zanu PF regime are illegitimate by virtue of the election being “illegal and not free and fair”. Surely it is not for MDC to bargain and grant legitimacy to anyone; legitimacy is derived from the people and not some self-proclaimed upstarts!

Zimbabwe’s economic is in total meltdown because Zimbabwe is a pariah state ruled by corrupt, incompetent and vote rigging thugs. No one wants to do business with thugs. The addition of one or two MDC leaders to the Zanu PF regime will not change the pariah state status of the regime. Chamisa thinks that it will change but is only deluding himself and Mnangagwa!

“Let me say this once and for all …. I will not talk about strategies and plans on this Twitter platform. So pardon me my dear,” twittered Chamisa.

You are hiding behind your little finger Mr Chamisa; I dare you to name just one strategy or plan that MDC has ever produced on any platform in all its 20 year history. Name just one! “Usa yere nyoka negavi, iyo iripo!” As one would say in Shona.

  1. This is nonsense! Chamisa is just hiding behind his little finger. MDC does not have any strategies or plans on anything and has never had any hence the reason the party has always blundered from pillar to post.

I dare Chamisa or anyone else out there to name just one MDC strategy or plan in the party's 20 years existence. Just one!

  2. Last week Mnangagwa’s administration gave Russian diamond exploration and mining giant Alrosa, a massive 70 percent stake in a joint venture with government owned Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) in Manicaland with a contract provision for possible expansion across the territory of the whole country. Alrosa is the world leader in diamond mining, accounting for over 25% in the global diamond production in terms of carats.

Russia is the world’s biggest diamond miner, while China is the world’s second biggest diamond consumer market after the US.

Prior to Alrosa’s Zimbabwe entry, China had enjoyed access to mining diamonds in Marange, which is thought to be home to the globe’s biggest diamond find carats wise in more than a century, with plans by Beijing to explore other deposits in the country, before it’s flagship diamond mining firm in the area, Anjin Investments, had it’s licence controversially terminated by Mugabe in 2015 over accusations of diamond looting and corruption.

Anjin is a joint venture between a Chinese company, Anhui Foreign Economic Construction Co. Ltd., and Matt Bronze Enterprises, which was formed by the Zimbabwe Defense Ministry and the Zimbabwe Defense Forces through an intermediary company.

“China though they might say otherwise actually removed Mugabe over the fallout in Marange diamonds mining,” said one of the envoys last week. “From what we understand in our circles your new leader made a political deal with the Chinese, to grant them exclusive diamond mining and exploration rights in Zimbabwe post-Mugabe, as they had facilitated his passage to becoming president. However he appears to have reneged on the pact, and has decided to choose Russia over China, now that’s a very dangerous game and they (China) will help remove him (Mnangagwa), because their economic interests in your country are increasingly coming under threat, from the Russians and the West.

“China has long enjoyed friendly relations with Zimbabwe. When Zimbabwe was facing isolation and sanctions from the west, China stood firm on its principles and remained by Zimbabwe’s side, developing mutually beneficial cooperation, which brought benefits to both countries and peoples.”

China and Russia have given financial and military assistance to many African countries in their fight to end West colonial oppress and exploitation but only to be the new oppressors and exploiters or be it through a local proxy like Mugabe and Zanu PF. China has played a major hand in the establishment and retention of the de facto Zanu PF one-party dictatorship.

Zimbabwe has had many golden opportunities to dismantle the Zanu PF dictatorship, the best of which fell to MDC. Sadly, we have wasted these chances and now we must work hard to create another chance and must make sure we do not waste it!

When the Chinese pick Mnangagwa over Mugabe, even they must have known this was an act of desperation. Mnangagwa was not going to revive the Zimbabwe economic because the man is brain dead. Even as they switch to Chiwenga they know he will be no better.

The Russians will be seeking to exploit us just as the Chinese have done.

As long as Zanu PF fails to revive the economy, Zanu PF’s grip on power will remain shaky. We must increase our demand for the regime to step down and allow meaningful reforms to be finally implemented. This is our chance to finally shake off the Zanu PF and its surrogate handlers, we must not waste it!

  4. @ Simple

You are not one of the millions now living in abject poverty, experiencing the 19 hours a day power cuts, etc. They are desperate to see an end to their suffering and this political circus! If being tired of the political circus meanings giving up and allowing it to go on then that is a luxury they can ill afford!

  5. According to a Zera announcement early Monday, the new price of petrol is now $7.47 from $6.10 and diesel now $7.19 up from $5.84.

It is the second increase inside two weeks.

We all know what is going to happen next, a new wave of price increases followed by a new inflationary fall in the value of the local currency relative to the foreign currency. The devaluation of the will means the rise in fuel prices since fuel is bought in foreign currency. The wages are going to lag behind prices meaning the people will be poorer and poorer. This is a vicious cycle!

  6. "Wake up Africa!" and then goes on to give the same Pan African rhetoric than tyrants like Mugabe have relied on to hide his incompetence, corruption and tyranny. Zimbabwe has just had yet another rigged elections and I would like to hear Dr Mumbi condemn Zanu PF, SADC and AU for failing to deliver this basic and fundamental human right.

Tell us what we should hear and not what we want to hear! What is the point of telling us we "hate" to hear the truth and then tell us more rhetorical nonsense pleasing to hear but will do nothing to get us out of the mess we are in!

  7. In Zimbabwe, Trump's comment was seized upon by President Emmerson Mnangagwa's supporters to suggest that their attempts at re-engaging the United States with the help of expensive lobbyists was bearing fruits.

"We will engage and re-engage. It will work. Simple," said government spokesman Ndavaningi Mangwana on Twitter.

The United States imposed sanctions on Zimbabwe starting in 2001 after accusing former President Robert Mugabe of human rights violations. The sanctions have been renewed every year since, including last year when Trump signed into law the revised Zimbabwe Democracy and Economic Recovery Amendment Act (Zidera) of 2018 (S 2779) which sets out conditions Zimbabwe has to meet before the sanctions are lifted.

The new sanctions law requires Zimbabwe to make credible progress towards holding free and fair elections, restore the rule of law and ensure military subordination to the civilian government, among other reforms.

The deployment of troops in August last year and in January this year to quell opposition protests, resulting in the deaths of over two dozen people, has however diminished chances that the sanctions will be lifted with US administration officials demanding that Zimbabwe presses criminal charges against everyone involved in the civilian deaths. Zimbabwe has appeared reluctant to bring the killer soldiers to justice.

There is no reason why any nation should re-engage this Zanu PF regime. Mnangagwa and company blatantly rigged last year’s elections and followed this up with his shoot to kill policy confirming that Zimbabwe is still a pariah state ruled by corrupt, incompetent and ruthless thugs. No one wants to do business with thugs, not even the Chinese and Russians hence the reason these nations have never honoured their mega deals they signed with Harare. All the Chinese and Russians have done is join in the wholesale looting of Zimbabwe’s resource!

Zimbabwe would have made very significant progress in getting this illegitimate Zanu PF regime to step down was it not for the country’s corrupt and incompetent opposition that propped up the regime by declaring the elections free, fair and credible. The regime failed to produce something as basic as a verified voters’ roll for Pete’s sake! It goes to show just how utterly useless our opposition politicians are.

Zanu PF rigged the elections but now is waking up to the reality that it cannot rig economic recovery! "We will engage and re-engage. It will work. Simple!" The worsening economic melt down is telling a totally different and the real story!

  8. @ Kadada

“The adage, 'See no evil, hear no evil' better describes our Finance Minister. This is what the gravy train does when one embarks on it, plucked from the wilderness of politics. All conscience, if there was an, dissipates as greedy manifests itself to a point of being blind to the obvious surroundings,” you said.

“The Members of Parliament demand for cars is no surprise at all, it was and will never about the Constituencies they purport to serve. This explains why MDC members shout and scream that they need electoral reforms but go on to participate in those elections without any reforms implemented. lt just shows they are after the perks that come with being a member of the august house.

“Muthuli Ncube's defence of the MPs is hardly surprising. He is staying at the Meikles hotel with his family still in Switzerland who will be taken care by the broke government when they visit.”

Robert Mugabe and his successor, Mnangagwa, have been careful to make sure the opposition always win a few gravy train seats and get the gravy train perks. Zanu PF knew the opposition will forget that the elections are rigged as long as they are assured of the scraps.

The tragedy here is that most Zimbabweans have failed to grasp the dirty game of running with the hare and hunting with the hound that MDC and their follow travellers in the opposition camp have been playing. As long as nothing is done to get the democratic reforms implemented and end this curse of rigged elections, Zimbabwe will remain stuck in this hell-hole Zanu PF dragged us into.

  9. The only plan or strategy that MDC leaders have ever had and have stuck to religious like a stamp to a letter is to serve their selfish interests at every opportunity. When Tsvangirai and company were elected into power on the ticket they will deliver the democratic changes to stop Zanu PF rigging elections. During the GNU they had the golden opportunity to do just that but failed to get even one reform implemented because they also saw the opportunity to cooperate with Zanu PF to feather their nests.

“We got in the inclusive government and just sat there, spent five years in there. We came out without doing anything.

“We will not do that, dialogue must have timelines that are very clear, the international community must tick us, mark us on the boxes,” said Chamisa when he launched the party’s latest gimmick blue-print, Return to Economic Recovery, Legitimacy, Openness and Democracy (RELOAD).

MDC leaders sold-out during the GNU and it backfired on them as Zanu PF went on to rig the post GNU elections booting Tsvangirai and many other MDC leaders off the gravy train. Zanu PF has allowed MDC to win a token number of the gravy train seats just to guarantee their continued participation in the rigged elections.

Indeed, RELOAD is all about giving Zanu PF legitimacy in retain for Chamisa and one or two other MDC leaders get back on the gravy train as cabinet ministers. They will be there to sit, eat and do nothing else.

MDC’s plan is to sell-out and that is all the party has ever done for the last 20 years. The people of Zimbabwe must be smart enough to say no to this. The need to implement the democratic reforms is now more urgent than ever, we need to end the curse of rigged elections if we are ever to get out of this economic and political mess, and MDC will never implement the reforms. Never ever!
