“As you continue to suffer, your
representatives in parliament and government are preparing to receive brand new
cars. Is this what you vote them in to office for? To live large in the face of
crisis?” twittered Dr Nkosana Moyo’s APA Zimbabwe.
What a foolish remark!
Zanu PF blatantly rigged last year’s elections,
how many times must one say this before it finally sinks in?
“The electoral commission lacked full
independence and appeared to not always act in an impartial manner,” stated the
EU Zimbabwe Election Mission final report.
“The final results as announced by the
Electoral Commission contained numerous errors and lacked adequate
traceability, transparency and verifiability. Finally, the restrictions on
political freedoms, the excessive use of force by security forces and abuses of
human rights in the post-election period undermined the corresponding positive
aspects during the pre-election campaign. As such, many aspects of the 2018
elections in Zimbabwe failed to meet international standards.”
There is no denying that Zanu PF blatantly
rigged last year’s elections. Worst of all you, Dr Moyo, and you APA Zimbabwe,
Nelson Chamisa and his MDC and the rest of the 23 presidential candidates and 130
political parties who contested last year’s elections KNEW the elections would
be rigged. ZEC failed to produce something as basic to free, fair and credible
elections as a verified voters’ roll; it is nonsense to suggest anyone missed
that!
If the opposition KNEW all along the elections process
was full of flaws and illegalities; why then did they participate? Simple –
greed.
In his Book, The
Struggle Continues 50 years of tyranny in Zimbabwe, former MDC – Ncube Senator and Minister of Education in the
2008 to 2013 GNU, David Coltart, gave a detailed account of how Zanu PF was flouted
the electoral rules and how it was clear to him and the nation at large that the
upcoming 2013 elections would not be free and fair. It was obvious to all that
they should not participate in the elections and yet they did participate
regardless!
“The worst aspect for me about the failure to
agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw
from the elections,” he explained in the Book.
“The electoral process was so flawed, so
illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to
hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N
that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the
elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”
After the blatant cheating and wanton violence
of the 2008 elections resulting in the humiliating GNU, as far as Mugabe and
Zanu PF were concerned, Mugabe learned that he could still rig elections and
get away with it if he allowed the opposition to win a few bait seats. It
worked; it was these few bait seats the opposition was after that compelled
them to participate is flawed elections.
Before the 2018 elections three of the main MDC
factions formed the MDC Alliance coalition and still they participated in the
flawed and illegal elections for the same reason, greed – proof that Coltart’s
excuse participating in 2013 election because the two MDC factions had failed
to unity was a lie!
Dr Nkosana Moyo and many other opposition
parties and candidates joined the rat race and contested last year’s elections
knowing fully well Zanu PF would rig the elections for the same reason – greed!
What is worse, by participating in these flawed
and illegal elections the opposition are giving the rigged elections some
modicum of political credibility as Coltart acknowledged. In other words, Mnangagwa
and his Zanu PF regime are illegitimate because the election process was flawed
and illegal, the regime does not have the people’s mandate to govern. The regime
clinging on to power on the basis that the opposition participated.
As long as Zanu PF assures the opposition of
winning a few seats, we can be certain Dr Nkosana Moyo and the rest in the
opposition camp will contest the elections regardless how flawed and illegal
the process. If Zimbabwe is ever to hold free, fair and credible elections then
it is up to us, the long-suffering electorate to demand that this illegitimate
Zanu PF regime steps down so the nation can appoint an interim administration
to implement the reforms.
Both MDC, Zanu PF and all those who
participated in previous elections cannot be in the interim administration for
the simple reason that we cannot trust them. Greed got the better of them
forcing them to participate in flawed and illegal elections in the past; greed
will get the better of them again.
“Did you vote MPs to live large in the face of
crisis?” Dr Nkosana Moyo is adding insult to injury since he knows the people
did not vote for these Zanu PF thugs, the elections were rigged and Dr Moyo and
his opposition friends helped the regime rig the elections!
It real is shocking that someone like Dr Nkosana Moyo should be uttering such nonsense as “your representatives, you voted, in parliament and government”. How is it possible that even now with the benefit of hindsight of the mountain of evidence that Zanu PF blatantly rigged the elections anyone can still doubt that reality, truth and grounded fact.
ReplyDeleteA people who cannot distinguish fact from fiction, truth from lie and reality from a mirage is destined to blunder from pillar to post, making one mistake after another and even repeating the same mistake over and over ad nauseam.
Zimbabwe is in this serious economic and political mess because the country is stuck with an incompetent, corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship. One peaceful way to end the dictatorship is for us to ensure we have free, fair and credible elections. Surely, surely it is not too much to ask to expect people like Dr Nkosana Moyo, Nelson Chamisa, David Coltart, etc. to KNOW what constitute free, fair and credible elections!
Mnangagwa blatantly rigged last year’s elections and Dr Moyo simple refuse to accept that reality and historic fact and insist we, the people of Zimbabwe, vote the tyrant and his thugs into power!
The corrupt and incompetent MDC leaders have a slightly different take to Dr Moyo; they accept the elections were rigged.
"Legitimacy is an issue - last year's elections were illegal, and not free and fair. All reasonable observers concede that," admitted David Coltart, MDC Alliance Treasurer General. It has taken almost a year for the party to finally admit the elections were rigged and they are doing so now in their desperate bid to force Mnangagwa to agree to a power sharing arrangement.
MDC, like Nkosana Moyo and the other opposition political parties and candidate participated in last year’s elections knowing Zanu PF would rig the elections. They were after the few bait gravy train seats the dictatorship was giving away. MDC won most of the bait seats and are now using that as leverage to demand cabinet posts from Mnangagwa in return for “legitimacy”.
The opposition gave the flawed and illegal elections process some modicum of legitimacy by participating. Clearly this has not been enough given the weight of national and international condemnation of the elections. MDC is trying to cash on Mnangagwa’s discomfort by offering “legitimacy” in return for cabinet positions.
MDC is conning Zanu PF because only the people of Zimbabwe in a free, fair and credible elections give the mandate to rule and legitimacy. The “legitimacy” MDC is offering is but fool’s gold.
Holding free, fair and credible elections is an essential first step in our search for competent and accountable good government. We have blundered from one rigged election to the next for 39 years and, with an opposition that is only too keen to sell-out the people’s right to a meaningful vote, we will never ever have free and fair elections. Never ever!

To start with Zanu PF did rig last year’s elections and if stating a historic fact is “rumbling” then I am proud to rumble on and on about it than to be one of those pretending it never happened or worse still pretend the elections were free, fair and credible.
I have not only stated the historic facts that elections were rigged but have pushed hard for an end to this curse. Every tyrannical regime in history has always claimed it would last forever, nothing will change. History tells us that, in time, even the most ruthless regime will fall. This Zanu PF dictatorship is falling, the writing is already on the wall.
There are two groups of Zimbabweans, those who are benefiting from the corrupt and tyrannical rule of Zanu PF and those who are suffering because of it. Of those suffering they are some are dumb and stupid and a blissfully suffering not aware what is going on and then there are those with a brain and know what is going on.
Of those with a brain to know what is going one there are those clever enough to know what is happening but not smart enough to know why much less what can be done about it.
As for being stressed enough to have HBP or some of those stress induced illness even the mentally challenged will find the current situation of 19 hours power cut, 90% unemployment rate, etc. very stressful. If you are not one of the ruling elite and do not find the present situation stressful then it can only be because you just one of the mentally challenged!
For me to have HBP because I understanding what is going on is not a curse but a blessing than to a half shilling. Cursed are those who have destroyed the nation to feed their insatiable greed for power and wealth.
I did not know Dr Nkosana Moyo well but reading his academic and working experience CV gave me the impression he was a rational and competent guy. The bit about him working for Mugabe as a Minister was a dead give away but one thought he came to his senses when he resigned. Wrong! His participation in last year's elections knowing fully well the elections will be rigged showed the man was just as stupid and greed as so many of our professionals and politicians on both sides of the political divide.
ReplyDeleteZanu PF rigged last year's elections, there is a mountain of evidence to prove this. How is it possible that anyone who still be doubting this basic reality and historic fact. We did not need the Americans, EU, Commonwealth, etc. to tell us the elections were flawed and illegal, we could see it with our own eyes. Of course, it is disappointing that we saw the blatant vote rigging but failed to register in our minds.
We see but do not perceive, we hear but do not understand.
Of course, we have no hope in hell of ever having a healthy and functioning democracy when we cannot even appreciate the need of a verified voters' roll, of 3 million being denying the vote compared to Mnangagwa's 2.6 million winning votes, etc. If the like of Dr Nkosana Moyo cannot appreciated that last year's elections were rigged what more my Uncle and Auntie in the rural backwaters!
Of course, it is an insult to any thinking Zimbabweans for Mr Moyo to help Zanu PF rig the vote and then has the cheek to blame the people for voting for Zanu PF! What an idiot!
