"There is massive doctoring of evidence," MDC lawyer charged - true but cannot prove it with no voters' roll P Guramatunhu

Let me say it again, these elections were rigged and the only way to have stopped the rigging was by implementing the democratic reforms designed to take away Zanu PF’s carte blanche powers to rig the elections and hide the evidence.

"There is a massive cover-up. There has been a massive doctoring of evidence," Thabani Mpofu, representing the MDC, told the Con-Court.

"There were at least 16 polling stations with identical results - identical result for Chamisa, identical results for Mnangagwa. It is like a kid who was playing with the figures," said Mpofu.

Well that sure looks suspicious and this is not the first time we have seen this. In the 2013 elections, similar results were noted with many polling stations recording the same number of cast votes plus or minus a handful of votes. This was the year the number of polling stations was increased from 2 000 to a staggering 9 000, 350% increase, just two days before voting day.

In the 2013 elections, Zanu PF had bussed many of its supporters from one polling station to the next casting multiple votes, hence the need to increase the number of polling stations by a staggering 350% and why so many stations had similar numbers of cast votes. It was impossible to prove Zanu PF had bussed its supporters around casting multiple votes because there was no clean and verified voters’ roll from which to ascertain who the voters were.

The voters’ roll was the smoking gun without which it was near impossible to prove anything!

This year the number of polling stations was increased even further to over 11 000, 450% increase compared to all the past elections right up to the 2008. Most telling of all, ZEC has once again failed to produce a clean and verified voters’ roll.

“Morgan Tsvangirai made the stupid mistake of going into the 2013 elections with no verified voters’ roll.” Chamisa admitted. “I will not make the same mistake!”

Surprise, surprise, he did. Even today, ZEC cannot produce a definitive, clean and verified voters’ roll for the just ended 2018elections!

Ask why the elections were held without any verified voters’ roll and the drag-net will land a bug catch.

ZEC knew that it was required by law to produce a verified voters’ roll at least one month before nomination day. Why has it failed to do so to this day?

It is inconceivable that all the judges and magistrates who presided over the nomination process were not aware that ZEC had not produced the voters’ roll and that nomination was going ahead with the roll. After all they were there to confirm that each prospective candidate’s nomination forms were dually signed by voters on the voters’ roll. So the nomination courts were aware of ZEC’s failure but turned a blind eye.

President Mnangagwa and his junta cabinet and parliament were also aware that ZEC did not have a clean voters’ roll and they too failed to flag this up.

Nelson Chamisa and his opposition team were aware there was no verified voters’ roll but were being “stupidity” by his own admission to ignore it.

If the Con-Court judges were serious about their search for justice, they will no doubt ask ZEC why it failed to produce a verified voters’ roll. The chances are, that the Judges will not do any such thing. After all one of the nine judges, Justice Rita Makarau, herself a former ZEC chairperson February 2013 to December 2017, failed to produce a verified voters’ roll for 2013 elections.

The honourable thing to have done here was Justice Rita Makarau should have excuse herself from the bench, given it was her who was heading ZEC for the most part of the last five years to this year’s elections.

MDC lawyers are facing a real challenge to convince the Con-Court that presidential vote was rigged given there is no voters’ roll, the smoking gun, and that not only ZEC, Zanu PF, the nomination courts and their only client, Nelson Chamisa and his MDC Alliance friends, all connived in this this treasonous act.  voters’ roll. did not know that ZEC did not produce a verified voters.

So MDC is wasting time and money on a case they are likely to lose and, worst of all, will change nothing even if they won the case.

Zanu PF blatantly rigged these elections to gain the 2/3 majority in parliament, the current court case is challenging the results of the presidential and will not change Zanu PF’s parliamentary majority. With the parliamentary majority Zanu PF is therefore a force to reckon with in Zimbabwe regardless what happens in the presidential race. We are stuck with this corrupt and tyrannical regime no matter what.

As a people we should focus all our energy on making sure the democratic reforms are implemented and the next elections, whenever they happen, are finally free, fair and credible. Until we break the cycle of rigged elections, this country is going nowhere!

  1. No nation in its right mind can ever tolerate such nonsense because every generation will be compelled to fight the generation before it or else accept subjugation. We want a Zimbabwe in which everyone enjoys the basic freedoms and rights including the right to free, fair and credible elections. Everyone is entitle to a meaningful vote and no one has a veto. This is not even open for debate or negotiation!

These elections were not free, fair and credible because there was no free public media, 2 to 3 million Zimbabweans in the diaspora were denied the vote, ZEC failed to produce a verified voters' roll, etc. It seems Zanu PF was adopted the stupid Chamisa mentality that the elections are free and fair if MDC wins regardless what actually happened. We do not care who won or lost, the elections were rigged.

  2. ZEC is required to produce a verified voters' roll a month before the sitting of the nomination courts, at the latest, which this year was 14 June 2018. The law is crystal clear on that point. Why Chamisa and his MDC friends agreed to participate in these elections with no verified voters' roll especially knowing what happened in the 2013 elections, beggars belief!

Yes when a number of polling stations is a neighbourhood have comparable numbers of voters with comparable votes cast for individual candidates the possibility of the same voters being bussed from one station to the next cannot be discounted. But with no verified voters' roll it will be very difficult to prove that some voters were bussed around casting multiple votes.

So by failing to insist on ZEC producing a verified voters' roll MDC leaders, in their short-sightedness and greed, shot themselves in the foot. The nation now finds itself once again stuck with this corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship all because of MDC greed! This is real intolerable!

"Evidence chaiyo ndiyo isipo pavakomana vakarohwa zviri free and fair but havasikunzwisisa kuti ED akashandisa which strategy to steal moyo yevanhu in such a short time," you claim.

This is nonsense, these is evidence of vote rigging the only trouble is that the Con-Court judges themselves will not want to hear it. There is no way 16 polling stations in the neighbourhood would have comparable number of voters who cast comparable votes for each candidate, particularly when the number of polling stations were increased 450% without consulting any of the other stakeholders. If the Con-Court really wanted to do, they would very easily dig up the evidence to prove voters were bussed around!

ED is not getting away with another rigged elections, not this time!

I have said it thousands of times and will say it again, Chamisa and his MDC friends are breathtakingly corrupt and incompetent. They had many golden opportunities to implement the democratic reforms during the GNU and they wasted them all; we would not be in this mess if they had not sold out. They have been advised not to participate in these elections with no reforms in place but they paid no heed.

I have dismissed Chamisa's claim that the elections will be free and fair if MDC wins as a foolish one that no one in their right mind would ever support. So you cannot now to accept what Chamisa says as the definitive position on anything.

"Wilbert Mukori there was no rigging and the election were free although hardly fair. Chamisa is on record saying the member of parliament votes were free and fair and not rigged. Now how do you balance such claims to say where I lose its rigged where it suits me thru Bhora musango its fair yet it's the same election?" you say.

I am not even going to take the village idiot's comment as worthy of replying.

Of course the elections were not free, fair and credible. There was no free public media, 2 to 3 million Zimbabweans in the diaspora were denied a vote, etc.

President Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF junta are rubbing their hands pleased that MDC's blundering at the Con-Court will get them off the hook for having failed to hold free, fair and credible elections. Well, they are wrong, what happened at the court is only a small part of the electoral process.

Zanu PF blatantly rigged these elections and they are NOT going to get away with it; not this time!
