Dr Nkosana Moyo contest 2018 = glass milk + spoon sewage = glass of sewage. N Garikai

“You will not be awarded any marks for answering the question YOU wanted asked!” my High School teacher used to warn us at the beginning of each examination.

Today, Zimbabweans we are rated “the poorest in Africa!”, according to a recent AfrAsia Bank report. If my High School teacher was still alive today, I know she would added “because Zimbabweans had a knack for answering questions no one asked!” Dr Nkosana Moyo is one glaring example one a Zimbabwean asking the wrong question.

“I have been seriously considering running for the presidency because I believe if I win, I will be able to show people that I can change a lot of things in the country very quickly. Our country can actually prosper very well if we elect a good candidate,” Dr Moyo told a Bulawayo audience.

“I am taking my time but I will definitely announce something to the people in the next few weeks. It’s a thing which I have been seriously considering for a very long time.”

There is no doubt that at the root of Zimbabwe’s economic decline is the nearly four decades of gross mismanagement and rampant corruption by this Mugabe regime. There is no doubt Zimbabwe WILL “prosper very well if we elect a good candidate”. And, most important of all, the country has NOT elected good and competent leaders all these last 37 years not because the people were happy with the corrupt and incompetent Zanu PF leaders.

Zimbabweans have been stuck with this corrupt and incompetent Zanu PF regime for 37 years, and counting, because the tyrant rigs the elections and the people cannot remove it from power.
The challenge before us is not one of finding good candidates to contest elections but rather of making sure elections are free, fair and credible to allow the election to make the informed choice of the good candidate from the bad and to make sure their vote counts.

What is the point of fielding the Albert Einstein of political governance in a political system that is so corrupt and rotten his genius will be not be recognised. Even if the electorate were to recognise the genius of a given candidate the electoral system is still produce the corrupt and incompetent as the elected winner!

What is disappointing here is that anyone with even half a brain should be labouring about seek a good candidate to contest in a flawed electoral system programmed to produce a corrupt, incompetent and murderous tyrant as the winner regardless of who else was contesting. Surely the most important issue here is to reform the system so it can separate the good, the bad and the ugly which is the bear essential of any electoral system.

Tsvangirai and his MDC friends had the golden opportunity to implement the democratic reforms during the GNU, they wasted it. They had the chance to redeem themselves by withdrawing from the 2013 elections and force the implementation of the reforms, as David Coltart admitted in his recent book.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the elections,” explained Senator Coltart.

“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”

By contesting flawed and illegal elections, just like other opposition politicians, then Dr Nkosana Moyo is not in any way helping us resolve the problem of stopping Zanu PF rigging elections but rather compounding it by giving the system the modicum of democratic credibility.

For failing to implement the reforms, participating in the flawed 2013 elections and now the coming 2018 election in disregard of MDC’s own “No reform, no elections!” resolution; Dr Morgan Tsvangirai & co. are nothing but a cholera contaminated glass of sewage with a spoon of milk. They are trying to sell themselves to the nation as a glass of milk, which they are not.

By participating in flawed elections alone, Dr Moyo is nothing more than a glass of milk with a spoonful of cholera contaminated sewage. It is irrelevant that the contents looks and smells like milk it is still nonetheless a glass full of dangerous sewage!

  1. "We recognize the need to build inclusivity, trust and ownership and it is our hope that we will reach out to the masses of Zimbabwe to come together to fight the elections as one unified voice echoing shared vision as we build the Zimbabwe we want", said the Chairman Dr. Dabengwa
There over fifty registered political parties in Zimbabwe beside Zanu PF; so, 16 have agreed to form a coalition, 34 still to be brought in the big tent! The tragedy this is typical of what the whole has come to expect Zimbabwe’s corrupt and incompetent opposition to do – waste time on trivial and irrelevant matters.
During the GNU Tsvangirai and his MDC friends wasted five years on everything else except what they were tasked to do – implement the democratic reforms designed to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections. The reforms are still the number one task but again our opposition politicians have wasted the last four years talking about forming an opposition coalition, BVR kit, etc. Not even one democratic reform has been implemented and they are talking of contesting the elections!
With no reforms in place Zanu PF will retain the license to rig the vote to win the presidency plus two thirds majority. President Mugabe won 62% of the vote in 2013 and so fielding one opposition presidential candidate will have accomplished nothing as he/she would have got 38%. The opposition politicians know Zanu PF has to give away some seats to earn the modicum of democratic credibility and it is these scraps the opposition are fighting over.
The opposition won the scraps in 2013 and nothing changed as far as the rest of the populous are concerned. The nation is dying for meaningful political change which can only happen if we have free and fair elections! The people of Zimbabwe will be foolish to let the nation be dragged into yet another flawed election that will produce no meaningful change.
We must stop the opposition from contesting flawed elections and deny Zanu PF the democratic credibility is needs to be accepted by SADC and the rest of the world!
SADC has already told Zimbabwe’s opposition parties to implement the reforms before contesting the elections. What this Mass Opposition Movement is expecting to achieve by engaging the regional body only to confirm they once again contesting the elections contrary to SADC advice beggars belief!

  3. The only way for us to be certain the securocrats will not once again interfere in the elections as they have done in the past is for the nation to implement the democratic reforms. Only a fool will find any assurance from the word of someone like former Zanu PF thug like Didymus Mutasa.

  4. Harare: The United States Ambassador says his country will maintain, and even increase, HIV funding levels in Zimbabwe despite a change in administration.

We must be the "second most developed country is Africa" whose national health, education and other basic needs are totally dependent on donor aid! What other nation on earth is spending so much on the health, education and luxury needs of its first family and the ruling elite!

The party has just taking delivery of new vehicles for use in next year's elections if the Americans do not provide the aid for HIV sufferers they will die! Not that Zanu PF will be bothered one way or the other as the party will win the elections regardless by voting for the party on their behave died or alive!
