Ask what you can do for Zimbabwe - "I'm not a politician," was Mtukudzi's cheap cop-out! Wilbert Mukori

Zimbabwe’s economic situation has reached the point where millions are suffered in dumb anguish and hundreds are dying every month unnecessarily for no other reason other than that they are poor. The situation is man-made and per se it is within our powers as a nation to resolve it.

One of the reasons why Zimbabwe is in this economic mess is because there are too many people out there who have never stopped to ask why the country was in a mess much less lift a finger to get the country out of the mess. Many of us expect “someone else” to do the think for us and then do whatever needs to be done.

Ask these people to name just one person of whom that “someone else” is and they do not say!

“I also live in the same conditions as everybody else, whatever struggle is there, I also experience that, I live here, I am a Zimbabwean, I stay here,” answered Mtukudzi. Pindai Dube had asked him his thoughts on the economic crisis in Zimbabwe.

“Unfortunately, I’m not a politician. I don’t know what to say, I don’t know who is wrong. I don’t know who can make it right. But I think as Zimbabweans we have to be optimistic that its going to be better.”

Sorry, but that has to be one of the cheapest cop-out in human history!

Who can anyone claim they do not know who is wrong, after 37 years of living under one of the most corrupt and tyrannical regimes in Africa. Surely brother Mtukudzi must have heard of Zimbabwe’s corruption. A year and half ago, Mugabe himself admitting that $15 billions in diamond revenue was swindled. To date, no one has been arrested and not a single dollar recovered was recovered.

How many countries in the world, much less ones like Zimbabwe with a misery $10 billion GDP, can sustain such a serious economic haemorrhage? It is therefore not surprising that Zimbabwe’s economy is in a real mess, unemployment has soared to world record heights of 90% and has been this high now for decades.

An AfrAsia Bank report has just confirmed that Zimbabweans are now the poorest in the poorest continent on earth, Africa. Millions of our people now live in abject poverty and hundreds are dying every month of poverty related diseases and/or hardships.

On the political front this Zanu PF has murdered over 30 000 innocent Zimbabweans to establish and retain its de facto one-party cum one-man dictatorship.

The nation had hoped for meaningful political change to come out of the 2008 to 2013 GNU. Sadly, Zanu PF was able to blatantly rig the 2013 elections, thanks to Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends’ failure to implement even one democratic reform to stop the vote rigging.

“Mazivanhu eMDC adzidza kudya anyerere!” (MDC people have learnt to enjoy the gravy train lifestyle and not rock the boat!) Was the boastful reply from one Mugabe crony during the GNU in response to the universal apprehension why MDC leaders were not implementing any reforms.

It is inconceivable that anyone, anyone at all will not be aware of the sorry economic state Zimbabwe is in because there is poverty, rot and decay everywhere! It is clear it is the decades of gross mismanagement and rampant corruption by our political leaders that has landed us in this mess. It should also be clear that unless there is meaningful political change this country will continue to sink in hopelessness and despair.

“And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country,” was the rally call of John F Kennedy in his 1961 inaugural speech.

If there was ever a time the people of Zimbabwe, wherever they are whoever they are, must ask themselves “What can I do for my country, Zimbabwe?” then there will never be a better time than now.

What can you do? Stop Zimbabwe going into yet another meaningless election by demanding the implementation of the democratic reforms BEFORE elections are held.

If elections go ahead with no reforms then Zanu PF will rig the vote, just as they did in 2013. That will deepen the country’s economic and political situation, just as the regime’s 2013 victory deepened the crisis.

The pressure point here is to force the opportunistic oppositions to withdraw from the elections and deny Zanu PF democratic credibility which opposition participation gives them, as David Coltart readily admitted in his Book.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the elections,” explained Coltart.

“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”

In 2014, Tsvangirai and his MDC friends promised not to contest future elections until the reforms are implemented but they have since changed their minds. They now plan to contest the 2018 elections knowing fully well the elections will be rigged for the same reason the contested the flawed 2013 elections – greed.

It is now incumbent on every Zimbabwe to force Tsvangirai and his opposition opportunist and greed friends to honour their “No reform, no election!” party resolution. It will take the effort of all Zimbabweans to force through the demand for political reform and restore all our freedoms, human rights including the right to free, fair and credible elections.

In 1980 Zimbabwe had the potential to become the South Korea of Africa but, as we can see, it also had the potential to become the corrupt and tyrannical North Korea of Africa. We can save ourselves and posterity from the nightmare of poverty and hopelessness but only if we play our part in ending this Zanu PF dictatorship and not always wait for others to think and act for us.

Mukoma Oliver Mtukudzi you can go to any maternity ward anywhere you want, you will never find a baby stamped “Politician” on its bum. In a country where our political leaders control every facet of human activity with disastrous consequences affected us all; we are all politicians. We must all play our part in the fight to end the Zanu PF dictatorship because it is destroying us all!

"I'm not a politician," is the worst cop-out I have ever heard.

Mtukudzi, the country is in a real mess and if we do not so something to save it is will sink deeper and deeper into the abyss and take us all down with it. There are no babies out there who are born with the "politician" stamped on their bum! So get off your high horse and contribute something to save the country now before it is too late.

The immediate task is to stop next year's elections going ahead until meaningful reforms are implemented. You do not need to be a politician to say you want to see the country hold free, fair and credible elections!!!!

  2. @Mudzonga

Some people have given their very lives so we can be free and now he will not even say one word to defend that freedom? How selfish can one be!!!!!!

  3. Do people like Oliver Mtukudzi ever think of others? Even with the nation in total meltdown and millions living in abject poverty all he thinks about is how can I maximize my gate takes from the ruling thugs and the impoverished nation. He would rather see nothing, hear nothing and say nothing just to please the tyrannical ruling elite even if that means betraying the millions of the regime’s suffering victims.

It is easy to see why many of those who fought in the liberation war have long considered themselves untouchable Gods; when you have a nation of such selfish and shameless cowards the few who stand up to perform what would be considered a national duty become very rare exceptions. No wonder people like Jabulani Sibanda, Mahiya right up to President Mugabe himself think themselves so highly they really believe they cannot be counted equal to other mortals!

“I’m not a politician!” What a stupid, stupid thing to say. Mtukudzi should apologise to the nation and hang his head in shame!

  4. President Mugabe will win next year's election but not because he is "64% trust him". Why would the people trust a corrupt and murderous tyrant whose rule have made them the poorest people on earth.

He will win next year’s election because he will rig the vote just as he has done in the past. It is easy to see why Afrobarometer has chosen to neglect the historic facts of Zanu PF blatantly rigging elections – Mugabe pays and pays well for those prepared to lie on his behalf.

"I think any argument that dismisses the latest findings from Afrobarometer/MPOI survey on the basis that it will give Zanu-PF (an) upper hand is a lousy argument. You have been given the pulse of the nation 15 months ahead of an election. Take the findings, interpret them and identify your weaknesses and get busy to convince people by addressing key areas!" said Joy Mabenge, a political analyst.

Any analysis based on the nonsense that Mugabe is trusted and does not rig elections has to be just that – nonsense.

"We must not dismiss the Afrobarometer survey results but work harder to surprise our sceptics," said MDC-T senior member, Tapiwa Mashakada.

"Thanks to the survey I think my colleagues will agree with me that we are now even more motivated to win the elections. We are not deterred as the survey has given us more impetus to confront the regime with better policy alternatives and strategies to win.

"Indeed, we are going to win provided there are electoral and political reforms to level the playing field. From the onset we knew that we are in it for the long haul. We will beat Zanu-PF. We will beat (President) Mugabe. We have the resolve."

If wishes were horses then the beggars would ride, win the grand national and live happily ever after! Mashakada is just a confused individual. He believes the Mugabe is trusted nonsense in one breath and acknowledges that Zanu PF has been rigging elections in the next.

Mashakada and his MDC friends had their best chance to implement the democratic reforms and “level the (political) play field” during the GNU and the wasted it. They failed to get even one reform implemented in five years! It has been a lot tougher to get any reforms implemented since the July 2013 rigged elections which ended SADC’s supervisory role in Zimbabwe and saw Zanu PF win more than two thirds majority in parliament.

MDC resolved not to contest future elections until reforms are implemented. They have since changed their minds, they will contest regardless of the uneven playing field. With not even one reform in place Mashakada knows “beating Mugabe” is indeed wishful thinking.

  5. UN fight to contain Ebola in DRC.

Pray that we never have to deal with such a problem, with our health services in a mess, I hate to think what will happen. Zimbabwe has sat on this time bomb for many years, one day it is going to explode and we will only have ourselves to blame for doing nothing all these year whilst Zanu PF destroy our health service, education, industrial base, everything!

Zimbabweans have not fallen from being some of the wealthiest in Africa to being the poorest by accident, it has taken 37 years of gross mismanagement and rampant corruption. We has watched it all happen and have done nothing to stop it!

  6. Reports of mass graves of victims of 2008 political violence in Gokwe and Marondera.

These are tragic stories in their own right but what makes them even more heart breaking is that the culture of political violence has never been dealt with and therefore there is the potential that if Zanu PF is ever squeezed ever again, the party will resort to violence again. The naivety of the MDC leaders themselves has not helped end this culture of violence.

“We also know that there are some people who are denied food hand-outs which come from the State because they are labelled as people who belong to a wrong party,” said Morgen Komichi, MDC-T Midlands senator.
“This is structural violence because it is engrained in the procedures and administration.
“This can be removed from our society if we all agree that we are denouncing violence.”

MDC were the GNU set up following the 2008 elections and they were tasked to implement a raft of democratic reforms designed to end the corruption within such State Institution such as the Police, Judiciary, etc. who have turned a blind eye or even assisted Zanu PF thuggery resulting in all this lawlessness and violence. MDC had five years to implement the reforms but failed to get even one reform implemented. It is easy to see why!

Instead of getting on with the task of implementing the reforms these corrupt and incompetent MDC leaders thought they only needed to negotiate with Zanu PF and agree to denounce violence! Even today, with the benefit of hindsight, senator Komichi still talks of agreeing to end violence and not implementing the democratic reforms and free the Police, etc. to do their duty of keeping law and order.

Senator Komichi and his MDC friends are dragging the nation into elections next year with not even one reform in place. With such naïve political leaders it is hard to see how this cycle will ever be stop!

There is absolutely no reason to have the next election until reforms are implemented to stop this cycle of vote rigging and violence.

  7. “All we are simply saying is if you do not register to vote, you will have to endure Zanu PF for another five years, because that is what they are counting on,” said Chihwayi, MDC-Ncube spokesperson.

This is just nonsense. In 2013 nearly one million voters were denied the vote by the simple act of posting their details in the constituency voters roll other than the one the individual expected. The same corrupt ZEC is still in place to perform more dirty tricks and with the help of the NIKUV Israelis; there is simple no limit to the mischief that can be done here. All the hundreds of man-days spend in door-to-door campaigns and queuing to register can all be undone by the click of a computer mouse-button.

In 2013 the regime refused to release the voters roll although it is a legal requirement because the authorities knew it was the smoking gun in its vote rigging operations.

It is not voter registration we want but reform of ZEC and all the other State Institution to stop the deliberate vote rigging. It is sheer madness to expect Zanu PF to rig the vote and lose the elections!

Welshman Ncube knows Zanu PF will rig and will the elections and all he and his opposition friends are going for is the few seats the regime gives away, the bribe to keep the opposition in the contest and give the process legitimacy. The opposition are selling out on free and fair elections just as they sold out on the same point during the GNU. It is for the people themselves to see through the opposition’s smoke-screen if they are ever to have free and fair elections and a competent government!

  8. Gudyanga said he had requested $575,000 from the MMCZ to finance the Minerals and Border Control Unit without consulting Treasury.
The money, it emerged, was deposited into the bank account of a private company, Pedstock Limited, which is linked to Nikuv.
For its dirty work in corrupt the voters roll for the 2013 elections, NIKUV was reportedly paid a princely sum of $10 million. If anyone thought the nation had seen the last of Nikuv they were wrong, the regime continues to pay them and this will be for its work in corrupting the 2018 election.

Whilst the regime is failing to pay civil servant, nurses, doctors and teachers for an honest month’s work it has, nonetheless, plenty of cash to pay these Israeli crooks very generous salaries for their dirty work!

By stubbornly refusing to boycott these flawed elections, the opposition are now part and parcel of the whole corrupt and tyrannical web of deceit, greed and intrigue President Mugabe has created. The opposition leaders were bribed during the GNU to do nothing about the reforms and since they are being bribed with the few gravy train seats the opposition politicians are allowed to win during the national elections. As long as Zanu PF continue to allow opposition to win the few seats they will in turn contest the elections regardless how flawed the happen to be!

It is for the people to wake up and demand free and fair elections otherwise these will never ever happen!
