Zanu PF has always wanted to impose a de jure one-party state in independent Zimbabwe, the party’s prize for spear heading the liberation war. Mnangagwa is hell bent on getting his wish. Or is he!
Zapu and Zanu, the two parties with freedom fighters on the ground, were rivals ever since the break away of some leaders from Zapu to form Zanu in the 1960s. The rivalry was so intense that bilious scuffles between their overzealous members were very common. The ordinary people, povo, were forced to have fully paid membership cards of both Zanu and Zapu for their own safety, ease money for the leaders!
There are many stories of the armed freedom fighters of the two parties fighting and killing each other before and after independence.
There have been several attempts reconcile and unit the two parties to facilitate the one-party state ambition. They attended the 1979 Lancaster House Talks as one party, Patriotic Front (PF), although it was clear this unity was not going to last. It did not last; the two contested the 1980 elections as PF Zapu led by Dr Joshua Nkomo and Zanu PF led by Robert Mugabe.
In the 1980 elections Zanu PF deployed many of its freedom fighters, contrary to the Lancaster House agreement to have them withdrawn into assembly points, and their campaign message was that if Zanu PF did not win the elections the bush war would continue.
Of course, the people voted to end the bush war or so they thought. Three years after independence the nation was back on a war footing as Mugabe sort to consolidate his grip on power.
The 1983 to 1987 Gukurahundi massacre, massacre of 20 000 PF Zapu supporters including unarmed civilians, was Robert Mugabe brow beating his PF Zapu rivals into submission. The massacre stopped with the signing the 1987 Unity Accord in which the two parties merged to form Zanu PF; paving the way for the imposition of the de facto one-party dictatorship that has ruled Zimbabwe to this day.
Zanu PF has rigged elections to remain in office these last 44 years under the pretext that all attempts at regime change were inspired by foreigners and threatened the nation’s hard-won independence, peace, unity and development. Bulls***t! Four decades of gross mismanagement, rampant corruption and tyrannical oppression have left the country in economic ruins and political paralysis.
The nation’s attempt to elect opposition leaders who would implement the democratic reforms and thus end the Zanu PF dictatorship have come to naught. MDC/CCC leaders have failed to implement even one token reform in 24 years, including 5 GNU years when they had the golden opportunity to do so.
Zanu PF has bribed the MDC/CCC leaders with the trappings of high office and, in return, they have not only forgotten about the reforms but have connived to keep the regime in power for a share of the spoils of power.
Indeed, MDC/CCC leaders are cooperating fully with Zanu PF in usurping the people’s right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country. The people risk all to vote them into office to restore the people’s rights not to abolish them. Talk of being betrayed by a friend with a kiss!
Zimbabwe’s worsening economic situation, millions are living in abject poverty, is making the people restless for meaningful political and economic change. There is growing pressure to implement reforms and restore the people’s right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country. Mnangagwa is felling this pressure and his response is take away the people’s right to regular elections, rigged or otherwise!
Rigging elections is bad enough postponing and cancelling elections is another kettle of fish! After a life-time of crossing the double yellow line by rigging elections Mnangagwa is now going for the biggie crossing the double red-lines by taking away the people’s right to vote.
Zimbabwe is a failed state because Zanu PF has rigged elections to impose the corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical regime on the nation. This has cause tragic human suffering and social and political instability. Taking away the people’s right to vote will only sink the nation into even deeper economic trouble and political instability. No one should ever be allowed to drag the nation into such a mess for selfish reason. No one!
Postponing and/or cancelling the 2028 elections will be high treason. Period! It would be unforgivable for this generation was to allow those responsible for such a heinous act get away with it setting a dangerous precedence!
It is very likely that Zanu PF will push hard the threat to postpone 2028 elections only to drop the idea the last minute as a magnanimous concession and hold the 2028 elections with no reforms implemented, which is what the regime was planning to do all along. Watch out!
Zimbabweans must maintain the pressure demanding free and fair elections and an end to the curse of rigged elections and bad governance. After 44 years of rigged elections and bad governance Zimbabwe cannot afford Zanu PF rigging 2028 elections and getting away with it!
Postponing the 2028 elections will tantamount to usurping the people’s power to hold politicians to account for all times. This would be the most irresponsible thing to happen in Zimbabwe and this generation will be condemned if they allowed such treasonous act to happen.

Meanwhile the 2028 elections will go ahead without even one token reform implemented, which is what he wanted to do all along without the added pressure of people demanding reform. After 45 years of Zanu PF rigging elections and getting away with it, the pressure is on to stop the regime rigging 2028 and getting away with it.
Zanu PF has played the bad cop good cop trick on the nation countless times. Is the push to postpone 2028 elections yet another Zanu PF dirty trick? It has been remarkably easy for both Zanu and MDC/CCC to con Zimbabweans in the past. We must make sure we are not conned yet again!

ReplyDeleteThere are many times when Zanu PF has made a big song and dance about doing something to draw attention away from what it was doing, for example using the biometric voting system in 2018, only to drop the issue. By the time people realised what was going on, it was too late to do anything about it.
Zanu PF does not want the nation fighting to ensure the regime does not get away with yet another rigged 2028 elections. And so to draw attention away from rigged elections the regime is threatening to do something even worse, postpone the elections. And yet that is exactly what Zanu PF is planning to do and is using the postponing of the 2028 to blindside us.
Zanu PF is pushing the postponing of the 2028 elections with feigned determination to draw the nation attention away from the problem of rigged elections. ReplyDeleteFor once I agree with Malaba. He should have mentioned that one of the way to end corruption is making sure those in power are accountable to the people. He has played his part in ensuring Zanu PF leaders are NOT accountable to the people.
He was paid to do that! In May/June 2023 all Zimbabwe’s judges were paid US$400 000 housing loans. The judges knew they will be very busy handling election related cases and this was a down payment to the judiciary to turn a blind eye to the many election flaws and illegalities such as ZEC’s failure to produce verified voters’ roll.
But no doubt, Chief Justice Malaba took the US$ 400 000 housing loan for an early Christmas present from President Mnangagwa and hence the reason he nor any of his colleagues have never repaid the loan - at least in cash!

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) interim secretary-general, Senator Sengezo Tshabangu, has defended the opposition's decision to engage with the ruling Zanu-PF, arguing that such interactions foster democracy and national development.
ReplyDeleteSen Tshabangu, who also serves as the leader of the opposition in Parliament, came under fire from some opposition activists for participating in a parliamentary visit to President Emmerson Mnangagwa's Pricabe Farm in Kwekwe over the weekend.
During the visit, President Mnangagwa emphasized the importance of a vibrant opposition in holding the ruling party accountable. Addressing criticism yesterday, Sen Tshabangu dismissed claims that such engagements amounted to betrayal.
"It is certainly strange reasoning to suggest that an opposition which engages with the ruling party is ‘selling out.' How else should State affairs be conducted? Democracies across the world have healthy interactions between the ruling party and the opposition," Tshabangu said.
There is nothing wrong with a healthy interaction between the ruling party and the opposition in a healthy and functioning democratic country. Zimbabwe is not a healthy and functioning democracy but an autocracy corrupt to the core.
For a start, the ruling party does not have the mandate of the people to rule since the elections were rigged. All election observers including SADC and AU condemned the 2023 elections as flawed and illegal. They did not go the extra mile to deny the regime legitimacy as they did in 2008 because the opposition and millions of their supporters participated in the flawed elections knowing fully well that doing so would give Zanu PF legitimacy.
Mnangagwa was right to boast that there was “no friction” between Zanu PF and CCC, the latter is Zanu PF team B in all but name. Chamisa knew that Zanu PF was rigging the elections but he lied to con his followers to participate in their millions to guarantee Zanu PF legitimacy. Mnangagwa has rewarded CCC leaders generously, the oil that has ensure there is no friction between the two parties.
Many people are making the mistake of thinking the opposition sold out when Tshabangu recalled some CCC leaders; that was not even the half of it, the real damage of giving Zanu PF legitimacy was done and dusted by then. The damage was done by conning of people to participate in the flawed elections in their millions and the winning CCC leaders taking up their gravy train seats even in the face of the damning election reports.
The most worrying thing is Sengezo Tshabangu, just like Douglas Mwonzora, has become the fall-guy taking all the blame of the “sell out” opposition and Nelson Chamisa is walking away squeaky clean ready to con millions to participate in flawed 2028 elections. We never learn!

ReplyDeleteWhat if Zanu PF knows that amending the constitution to postpone the elections is tantamount to telling Zimbabweans they are being stripped their right as citizen of Zimbabwe, which is what the regime is doing. The regime knows this is one fight it knows that it will not win!
What if Zanu PF knows that but is pushing the proposal just to wind up the people and get them talking about that and not about the real prospect of the country going into the 2028 elections without even one token reform implemented.
Zanu PF does NOT want the nation talking about the rigged 2023 elections and how the regime was spared being denied legitimacy only because CCC supporters participated in their millions. And CCC leaders took up their gravy train seats even after SADC and AU condemned the elections. Getting the people talking about postponing 2028 is far better for Zanu PF that talking about another rigged election.
What if Zanu PF just talks about postponing 2028 and do nothing else. At the time of the party's choosing they will drop the postponing 2028 and catch all those who had been hopping mad about the matter off guard. They will not object to elections going ahead!
Thinking outside the box entails stating one's objections to 2028 being a repeat of 2023. If Zanu PF want to postpone the 2028 elections let them reveal that hand by amending the constitution. There will be plenty of time to engage the regime during the referendum campaign to get the national approval.

Coltart explained why MDC leaders have been participating in flawed elections.
“The (2013) electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility,” confessed David Coltart in his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe’s problem is that we have millions of Zimbabwean out there with what the ancient Greeks called a “tribesman” mentality. ReplyDeleteZimbabwe is a Chinese colony in all but name and has played the pivotal role in who ruled Zimbabwe. Mugabe fall out with the Chinese in 2016 and booted them out of Chiadzwa and Marange Diamond looting. He did not last in office.
It is widely believed that the 2017 military coup was cleared by China, just weeks before the coup Chiwenga was in China. A few moons after the coup the Chinese were back in Chiadzwa and Maranga - that was no accident.
According to some media reports the Chinese have advised Mnangagwa that he should drop the nonsense of postponing the 2028 elections to extend his stay in power. They know this is political dynamite, the nation is restless for change and this will only light the fuse.
However, for strategic reasons Zanu PF will keep up the pretence of postponing the 2028 elections to draw fire from the contentious issue of holding 2028 elections with no reforms. There are reports of VP Chiwenga has endorse call to postpone 2028 elections to give even more credence to the belief Zanu PF will do this.
Zanu PF will then announce that the party, listened to the people and will not postpone the 2028 elections. VP Chiwenga will be the party's candidate and it will be too late to call for reforms or boycott if there are no reforms. The usual suspects will participate in the flawed elections in their millions and give Zanu PF legitimacy. Job done!
So what is to be done? The people must not fall for the decoy of Zanu PF postponing 2028, remain focused on demanding the implementation of the reforms. We know Zanu PF will never implement any reforms and we also know Chamisa & Co. will participate in the flawed elections no matter what and con their supporters to do the same. Our job is to ensure Chamisa chete chete brigade are not conned to participate in their millions as before.

Zimbabwe is a failed state because the nation has been stuck with a corrupt and tyrannical regime for 45 years and counting. Even if we accept the lie that the economy is recovering under Mnangagwa, one has to ask why the nation had sunk to these nauseating depths of depravity for 37 years under Mugabe?
Answer: Zanu PF had rigged elections, Mnangagwa played a key role in all this, thus denying the people a meaningful say in the governance of the country. The number one priority for the nation when Mugabe was finally booted out of office in 2017 should have been to restore the people’s right to hold leaders to democratic account. We failed to do so!
Mnangagwa blatantly rigged the 2018 and 2023 elections - proof that the so called Second Republic was no different from the Mugabe tyranny in that it has continue to set its own exams and mark them. Both SADC and AU have condemned 2023 elections as flawed and illegal. This Zanu PF regime is illegitimate. And now the regime is proposing to rig the process and extent its stay in power, initially until 2030.
There are some things people can debate and even agree to disagree; no one with half a brain would disagree that a student cannot set his on end of year exam and mark it too! Of course, it is idiotic that those entrusted to manage public affairs should judge their own performance and grant themselves the mandate to stay in the said offices.
The proposal to postpone the 2028 elections is tantamount to stripping the people’s fundamental right and power to hold politicians to democratic account and to grant the mandate to rule. Only a village idiot who ever support such a blatant tyrannical and treasonous suggestion because the move undermines the every essence of good government, national stability and rule of law!
