"We take umbrage to Timveous mischief" says MDC A - strange, leaders sold out big time during GNU and never even notice it N Garikai

The trouble with people who are shallow, thick and slow is they have the propensity to make mountains out of mole-hills and thus waste not only their time and energy but that of everyone else involved.

MDC has been on the political stage for 20 years, 5 of which in the GNU, they have failed to bring about even one democratic change in all these years. Not even one!

The party had the golden chance to implement the reforms during the GNU. SADC leaders had got Mugabe and Zanu PF to agree to the democratic reforms by signing the 2008 Global Political Agreement. Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends’ primary task in the 2008 to 2013 GNU was to implement the reforms. They failed to get even one reform implemented and the golden opportunity was lost.

Having failed to implement the reforms the party has changed tactic; it has been participating in elections knowing fully well that Zanu PF was rigging the elections. The narrative was if the opposition was better organised and united, it will win rigged elections.

“MDC has stringent measures to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections!” boasted Chamisa before the July 2018 elections. Ever since the elections he has insisted on calling Mnangagwa illegitimate because he “stole the July 2018 elections!” Chamisa has conveniently forgotten that he is the one who boasted MDC would stop Zanu PF stealing the elections.

Nelson Chamisa and his MDC A, Douglas Mwonzora and his MDC-T and the rest of the opposition entourage are preparing to participate in the 2023 elections. They all know that since the July 2018 election not even one meaningful reform was implemented and therefore Zanu PF is going to once again rig those elections; guaranteed! No doubt, Chamisa, Mwonzora, etc. will all come out with their own Winning In Rigged Election (WIRE) strategies.

The real reason why MDC leaders have been participating in flawed and illegal elections, especially after the watershed 2008 elections when Zanu PF showed that its power to rig elections was infinite, is to win the few gravy train seats Zanu PF offered as bait. Zanu PF needs the opposition to participate to give the flawed election process so credibility and to give the result legitimacy. The opposition have found the bait irresistible.

After 41 years and counting of rigged elections it is criminal and insane to drag the nation into yet another flawed and meaningless elections.

Every Zimbabwean with half a brain should be spending all their time and energy on making sure that democratic reforms are implemented before the 2023 elections. If the elections go ahead with no reforms then the plebiscite must be declared null and void.

Every Zimbabwean with half a brain should be spending all their time and energy reminding the corrupt, incompetent and sell-out opposition that the nation is sick and tired of their deceitful WIRE strategies.

“It has come to our attention that former MDC Alliance national executive committee members Lilian Timveous and Blessing Chebundo have resigned from the party and joined the ruling party Zanu-PF,” call the statement from MDC A Harare.

“While we wish our former colleagues well at their new political home, we take umbrage at their mischievous attempts to justify their shameful actions by casting aspersions on the MDC Alliance leadership in general and the secretary-general of the party in particular.

“Allegations by former deputy national treasurer-general Timveous against secretary-general Chalton Hwende cannot pass the veracity test as the claims are outright falsehoods concocted to justify her treacherous and selfish decision to abandon the people's struggle in order to join the Zanu-PF gravy train.”

How tragic that Morgan Tsvangirai and the rest of the MDC leadership sold out big time during the 2008 to 2013 GNU and have continued to sell-out by participating in flawed elections with tragic consequences to the whole nation. And yet, ever to this day, the majority of the MDC A members have continued to sheepish follow these corrupt and incompetent leaders oblivious of the consequences of their own folly.

The MDC members have always come to life, agitated as bees whose hive is under attack; because, this time, two-party leaders resigned! The consequences of their going, to the party worse the nation, is manicure but you would think so from the commotion in the party. This is just another MDC storm in a tea cup!

The tragedy here is the nation will be dragged into yet another flawed and meaningless election in 2023 and MDC leaders will participate and give the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy! And all because the nation cannot get MDC leaders and their members to stop wasting time on trivial matters and focus on the real important issues - implementing the reforms and ending the curse of rigged elections and bad governance.

It is not only Zanu PF that is holding the nation to ransom; the party now has junior partners in MDC!

  1. So MDC leaders and members are all up in arms over the resignation of Lilian Timveous. What is the monetary price to the party and nation of her leaving MDC A? US$ 10!!

MDC leaders failed to implement even one democratic reform when they had the golden opportunity to do so during the GNU. MDC members did not even register this even after this has been flagged to them repeatedly. The consequences of that betrayal is we are still stuck with the corrupt, incompetent and murderous Zanu PF dictatorship. The price for it is millions of dollars are looted every day and add to that the human suffering and deaths!

Of course, it beggars believe that these MDC idiots, we have not heard the last of this, are always wasting time and energy on trivial matters, making a mountains out of a mole-hills.

  2. @ Mbofana

“I can not help being filled with righteous indignation watching all our God-given wealth being mercilessly plundered by a few in the opportunistic ruling elite (past and present), with repulsive impunity - in ways that leave most of us seriously wondering whether these people are normal, or possessed by some malevolent stealing spirit (in Shona called 'Shavi rekuba'), which might need urgent exorcism, as the magnitude of the pillaging is outrageous - whilst, the rest of the millions of citizens are abandoned to languish in impoverishment, earning less than the US$1.80 per day, that the UN (United Nations) considers as the limit for someone to be labelled "living in extreme poverty"

“I call it a form of 'shavi', because quite honestly, this country is bequeathed with an over-abundance of resources, such that a normal thief could steal, yet leaving enough for the rest of us - but, the amounts these people pilfer is unbelievable, and leads many to wonder why anyone would want so much, yet they just keep on stealing.”

It is clear that you are outraged by the very fact Zimbabwe, once upon a time the bread basket of the region is now the basket case of a failed state. It is one thing talking about millions of Zimbabweans now live in abject poverty but when you are one of these living in abject poverty it is another matter. You are right to be outraged but how many others out there are outraged?

Why are so many people seemingly indifferent to their own suffering and even death?

Like it or not we cannot deny that we, the people, have allowed Zanu PF thugs to rid roughshod over us denying us our basic freedoms and rights including the right to a meaningful vote and even the right to life.

Mnangagwa is corrupt and a murderous tyrant but more significantly he is breathtakingly incompetent. There is no denying that, in the last 40 years, we have had many golden opportunities to end the Zanu PF dictatorship and we have wasted them all.

In the long run, nations get the government they deserve. We in Zimbabwe certainly deserve this Zanu PF dictatorship complete with the equally corrupt and incompetent MDC!
Until many more Zimbabweans wake-up to the reality of what is going on and join you in demanding change, Zimbabwe will continue to sink into the abyss!

  3. @ Tinashe Muzamhindo

“Those who saw Timveous and Chebundo at State House, might have been surprised, little did they know that " State House", is a high office, and does not deserve such drama.

We must be witnessing investors flocking to that building, and we must be witnessing potential international Organizations putting signatures of Strategic deals, which brings this country out of poverty.

That was one of the most embarrassing events, we ever had since the new dispensation.

On 17 November, 2017, there was a loud bang at Blue Roof, finally, when the former Zanu PF gorilla fighter, and First Secretary threw in the towel, and he signed his resignation, many people rejoiced in the streets, and there was joy and excitement all over, and promises were made about the second republican, or " New Dispensation”.”

I totally agree with you, Timveous and Chebundo are two ordinary people who have accomplished nothing of note. Why both Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF cronies and the whole MDC leadership is agog with excitement over the two joining Zanu PF beggars belief. We have become a bankrupt nation given to praising village idiots to the high heaven as heroes and heroines!

If anyone was foolish to believe Mnangagwa was going to change Zimbabwe for the better; well the the events of the last two years have opened their eyes. New dispensation has turned out to be a farce.

  4. It was the wife of US President Roosevelt, Eleanor who said, "Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people."

Zimbabwe is in a political and economic mess today because most of our people have not even reached the “small minds” level, they are still stuck in the minion minds level graphically portrayed by characters in Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland characters where reason has been thrown out of the window and chaos reigns supreme.

MDC members have the intellect of Carroll’s characters Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum they are incapable of focusing their minds on anything of substance and there is nothing they love more than fight over trivial matters like a wattle!

If Lilian Timveous was as useless as these MDC members are telling us, then why are they incandescent with anger at her leaving? Indeed they should even be glad that she has joined they political rivalry, Zanu PF; now she can be as disruptive there!

For the last year MDC members have been tearing their hair out ever since the Supreme Court judgement confirming Chamisa’s seizure of power following Tsvangirai’s death violated the party’s own constitution. Could never get the members to address the merits of the case, they were off at a tangent accusing Zanu PF of seeking to destroy MDC A. “They will fail! MDC A is a formidable party!” they claimed.

The last years has seen MDC A dismembered as the party’s elected MPs, senators and councillors were forced to switch allegiance to Khupe/Mwonzora or be recalled. Chamisa had the Political Party Finance Act payout snatched from under his nose! The formidable party is in total disarray. “MDC A ragova zumbu rakapinda nyoka!” as one would say in Shona. But not to all the MDC A Tweedle Dees and Tweedle Dums!

The nation should really be focused on getting the reforms implemented BEFORE the 2023 elections or else boycott the flawed and illegal elections. It is impossible to get these MDC A Tweedle Dees and Tweedle Dums to listen; if it is not denying the SC judgement will have any consequence, it will be dismissing Timveous’ cross the floor as a none event or some such trivial matter. In the end MDC A and its supporters will participate in the flawed 2023 elections and thus give legitimacy to the vote rigging Zanu PF.

It is a nightmare trying to create a democracy in a nation where a significant segment of the population are characters straight out of Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, incapable of comprehending anything above personality much less ideas!
