Chamisa's 2021 Agenda was "full of sound and fury, signifying nothing" - exactly as expected of a failed politician P Guramatunhu

“The agenda for political reforms has been on the table for many years. When the MDC was founded two decades ago, the agenda was to reform governance in Zimbabwe which was already in terminal decline,” admitted Nelson Chamisa in his Tuesday afternoon Zimbabwe 2021 Agenda address.

“The transformation of governance and society remains at the core of the party’s agenda. However, history has shown that there are impediments to the party’s path to power, hence the need for political reforms to level the political playing field. It is important to have free, fair, and credible elections because they provide the basis for legitimacy.

“We have seen that no matter how many elections are held if there is a legitimacy deficit, the country will remain stuck in the doldrums. We need Zimbabwe to return to legitimacy, openness and democracy. (RELOAD)”

As a young Roman Catholic familiar with the ritual of confession, I had often wondered what the Devil would say in his confession. As an adult I have become engross with the here and now as contrast to the here, now and after life expected of a good Christian. It was not the Devil’s confession I want to hear but that of a politician!

Above is a snippet of a corrupt, incompetent and utterly useless Zimbabwean politician’s confession. It is everything I had ever imagined in the Devil to confess, one and half hours of howling at the moon.

“It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury
Signifying nothing!” to borrow from William Shakespeare.

It is true that implementing the democratic reforms to restore the individual freedoms and rights including the right to a meaningful vote and the right to life itself was MDC’s primary task. Zimbabweans have risked life and limb to elect Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends into power on the understanding the party will bring about the democratic changes the nation was dying for, as the party’s own name implied.

So, one has to ask why are political reforms still on the national agenda two decades since the formation of MDC?

If Nelson Chamisa’s address was an honest and earnest dialogue with the people of Zimbabwe as the title, Zimbabwe 2021 Agenda, implied; just as a confession should be sincere and truthful; then he had to answer the question above. The whole speech was a clarion call to all Zimbabweans to fight for change without as much as a backward glance to the last two decades, as if the years never even existed. Rubbish!

The last 20 years are important. Many people have suffered and many have died, over 500 were murdered by Zanu PF in the 2008 wanton election violence alone, in the fight for democratic change. The country is in a worse economic and political state today than it was in 2 years ago precisely because the democratic changes that should have happened never happened.

We owe it to all those who have made great sacrifices for democratic change in Zimbabwe to say why we failed to deliver any changes in the last 20 years.

Besides, if we fail to thoroughly and candidly interrogate the failures of last 20 years past, how can we be sure we will not repeat the same mistakes again!

There is no denying that MDC leaders have had many golden opportunities to implement the democratic reforms and end the curse of rigged elections once and once for all. The best chances to implement the reforms were during the 2008 to 2013 GNU.

Morgan Tsvangirai and his fellow MDC leaders, including Nelson Chamisa, failed to implement even one democratic reform in five years. Not even one!

Mugabe bribed the MDC leaders with the trappings of high office, the ministerial limos, very generous salaries and allowances, a US$ 4 million Highlands mansion for Tsvangirai, etc., etc. With their snouts in the feeding trough, the MDC leaders forgot about reforms for five years. Not five hours, five days or five months! FIVE YEARS!

Worse still, ever since their blatant betrayal in failing to implement the reforms during the GNU; MDC leaders have taken up the call for reforms and free and fair elections again and again to win the people’s trust but only to completely ignore the cause in pursuit of their selfish agenda.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the (2013) elections,” wrote Senator Coltart in his book.

“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”

There it is the confession on another politician admitting MDC leaders abandoned the call for reforms and free and fair elections in pursuit of the few gravy train seats Zanu PF dangled in their faces.

Needless to say, Nelson Chamisa and his fellow MDC friends will be participating in the 2023 elections even if Zanu PF does not implement even one token reform.

Mnangagwa knows that MDC leaders will participate in the elections regardless how flawed and illegal process. Indeed, that is exactly the reason why Zanu PF is not even paying attention to all these calls for democratic reforms. Why would Zanu PF implement any reform and risk losing the election when the party knows the opposition will participate and give the process credibility and give the results legitimacy!

“Life is but a walking shadow, a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more.” To once again borrow from William Shakespeare.

After 20 years of the MDC idiots strutting and fretting upon the Zimbabwe political stage and with not even one democratic reform to show for it we, Zimbabweans, should have given these poor player their marching orders a long time ago.

MDC leaders will never ever deliver the democratic reforms and the free, fair and credible elections; if they failed to do so when they had the golden opportunity to do so, during the 2008 to 2013 GNU, it is naïve to think they will do so now.

  1. It was the Greeks, over 2 500 years ago, who came up this democracy, government of the people by the people for the people. They realized that democracy would not work unless the people were well informed and hence the reason they laid so much emphasis on individual freedoms, freedom of expression, etc.

The Greeks built war ship and named them Freedom and Freedom of Expression.

If we, in Zimbabwe have been toying with the idea of building a democratic Zimbabwe, after 41 years one can conclusively say the idea is dead in the water.

There is no denying that the Zimbabwe electorate is naive and gullible, the exact opposite of the informed and diligent electorate demanded of a health democracy.

Most Zimbabweans out there have no clue what the 2008 to 2013 GNU was all about, even now with all the benefit of hindsight. Of course, MDC leaders sold-out big time by failing to implement even one reform in five years but the people have never taken these leaders to account; how can they when they have no clue what the GNU was about because they are naive and gullible.

Chamisa and his fellow MDC leaders are selling out by participating in flawed and illegal elections, giving legitimacy to the vote rigging Zanu PF in return for a few gravy train seats. Chamisa is paying lip-service to reforms, he will participate in the 2023 election with not even a token reform implemented; just as he has done in the past.

He is making a big song and dance about legitimacy to pile the pressure on Zanu PF to give him more of the spoils of power. MDC A is campaigning for the creation of the Leader of Opposition and Shadow Cabinet posts complete with the ministerial limos, generous salaries and perks.

Of course, the naive and gullible electorate have no clue MDC leaders have long ago sold-out on the fight for free, fair and credible elections. And so in their ignorance, the people are themselves helping to perpetuate the Zanu PF dictatorship and its newly acquired MDC acolytes!

“Amazing and phenomenal numbers tuned in and watched the Agenda 2021 address on various platforms. Come let us converge and reason together for CHANGE. JOIN US in this FIGHT FOR REAL CHANGE. Victory is certain! Let’s build and make OUR ZIMBABWE GREAT!
God bless you all my beloved.”
The people of Zimbabwe have risked life and limb, over 500 were murdered by Zanu PF in the wanton violence of 2008 elections alone, to elect MDC leaders int power on the understanding the party will bring about change.
You guys have been on the political stage for 21 years, 5 of which in the GNU and yet have failed to bring about even one meaningful change. MDC did have many opportunities to bring about the democratic changes but wasted them all.
MDC A will be participating in the 2023 elections knowing Zanu PF will rig the process and by participating give the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy. You reward for participating is the few gravy train seats Zanu PF gives away as bait.
MDC leaders are just exploiting the people making them believe change is coming when the party knows there will be no meaningful change. The Zimbabwe electorate is one of the most naïve and gullible people on earth and MDC, just like Zanu PF before it, is taking advantage of this weakness!
If the Zimbabwean public is not so naïve and gullible, they would have asked MDC leaders to explain why the party failed to implement even one reform during the GNU, for example! There is something disconcerting when a whole nation is fooled into believed the same lie of change is just round the corner after 21 years!
Chamisa is nothing more than a predatory wasp that is leading the stung and confused cockroach by the tentacle to be food for wasp grabs. Our predatory Chamisa and his MDC sell-outs are feeding on povo’s suffering and deaths and helping the real big brother predators, Zanu PF ruling elite, to do the same.
Before independence the white colonialists preyed on the blacks and since independence it has been blacks, yesterday’s liberators turned today’s oppressors, preying on follow blacks! Five years on the GNU gravy train transformed MDC leaders into Zanu PF predators in all but name!
"Victory is certain!" Of course, it is for you and your MDC friends; you have enjoyed every minute of your time on the gravy train and are not going to give up those seats for free and fair elections!

  3. When Zimbabwean villagers from Chiadzwa were relocated to Agricultural Rural Development Authority (ARDA) Transau, a state-owned farm in Odzi, about 40km from Mutare, to pave way for diamond mining, they were promised better life by both the government and several Chinese mining companies.
The government relocated more than 1,200 villagers from Chiadzwa to ARDA Transau in 2009 after forcibly removing, in a bloody crackdown, more than 20,000 small-scale miners who had invaded the once-rich diamond fields in 2006.
    Promises, promises
Arable lands, a US$5,000 compensation fee, grazing lands, schools and jobs are some of what the relocated residents were promised.
Chinese mining companies that were among the seven companies given mining rights include Jinan and Anjin – a company jointly owned by Chinese company Anhui Foreign Economic Construction Company Limited and Matt Bronze, a company owned by the Zimbabwe Defence Forces.
When Zimbabwe gained her independence in 1980, Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF cronies usurped the people’s right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country when the party made it clear that if it lost the elections, the bush war would continue. The people voted to end the war.
Zanu PF used its new found power to erode the people’s freedoms and rights to consolidate its iron grip on power. 41 years of corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship has left the country in economic ruins and forced millions into abject poverty. The people have been helpless to stop the misrule because they have no political power. Never did!
Zimbabweans have been very slow in realising that without a political voice, exemplified by the holding of free, fair and credible elections, they will always be at the mercy of the corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical ruling elite whose hunger for absolute power and wealth is insatiable!
It is shocking that many Zimbabweans out there have no clue what constitutes free, fair and credible elections – its not rocket science for Pete’s sake. As long as the people remain naïve and gullible, proof they are not ready for good governance, the nation will remain stuck in this hell-on-earth.

Worse still, the Chinese are now bankrolling Zanu PF's vote rigging juggernaut to make sure the party stays in power whilst they continue looting.

Zimbabwe will never have free, fair and credible elections, not as long as the wholesale looting continues, it is in the interest of the looters to make sure Zanu PF, who have made the looting possible, remain in power.

Diamonds, gold and all these other resources should be a blessing to the nation and yet they are now a curse.
