Zanu PF rigged election is worse than a Pyrrhic victory - dog got worse than hare's ticks P Guramatuhnu

You can tell the dog has a flea or tick problem by the frequency the poor creature scratches itself and the greater the vigour the greater the infestation! Rigging the recent elections was the easy bit for President Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF junta but now it is turning to be an Pyrrhic victory. Whatever it was the Zanu PF dogs killed and ate they inherited prey’s flea and tick problem because they have been scratching themselves frantically ever since!
The regime is on an all-out offensive prove the elections were not rigged. It is a desperate rare-guard offensive.
“The recently released European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) final report on Zimbabwe's July 30 harmonised elections reaffirmed how MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa was fairly defeated by President Emmerson Mnangagwa,” wrote Chido Chikuni in the Herald.
"While ZEC's poor management of the results may have opened up the process to a degree of legal jeopardy; the case brought by Chamisa did not adequately prove the case for a substantial change of result," quoting the EU report itself.
What Chikuni failed to point out was that the EU’s scathing criticism of the whole electoral process, not just ZEC’s breath-taking incompetence, left one in no doubt that the whole election process and the result was a sham!
“The electoral commission lacked full independence and appeared to not always act in an impartial manner. The final results as announced by the Electoral Commission contained numerous errors and lacked adequate traceability, transparency and verifiability,” EU final report stated.

"Finally, the restrictions on political freedoms, the excessive use of force by security forces and abuses of human rights in the post-election period undermined the corresponding positive aspects during the pre-election campaign. As such, many aspects of the 2018 elections in Zimbabwe failed to meet international standards."
The 2.4 million votes Mnangagwa is supposed to have garnered cannot be traced and verified because, one, no verified voters’ roll was ever released. Two, the vote tally itself cannot be traced and verified because some V11 forms were never released and many of the figures on the ZEC results cannot be traced to available V11 forms. It is little wonder that ZEC itself has ended up with three  different results; proof they had tampered with the figures. It beggars belief how anyone, anyone at all, can ever claim the elections were free, fair and credible.
Ever since President Mnangagwa assume power following last November’s coup, he has clearly understood the importance of attracting foreign investors and lenders back into the country to help kick-start the comatose economy. Hence his “Zimbabwe is open for business!” mantra which he has pursued with a passion.
What President Mnangagwa failed to understand was that for Zimbabwe to be open for business the country must shed off its pariah state image and not just say it has changed. When he promised to hold free, fair and credible elections; he was expected to deliver on his promise. He did not!
The penalty for rigging the recent elections was that the investors and lenders have shied away. Without the much needed foreign investment Zimbabwe’s economic recovery will remain a pipedream!
Ever since coming to power, nearly a year ago now, President Mnangagwa and his regime have squandered $4 billion in foreign currency and most of it on luxuries such as cars for Chiefs and Zanu PF leaders, election related expenses and $1.4 million chartering a plane for Grace Mugabe. This has left the country with no money left for essential like fuel, drugs, etc. The shortage of the US$ has forced its value to soar 600% in just one week.
The shortage of basic commodities on the back of foreign currency shortage has helped refocus the minds on the fact that the country cannot borrow any bridging loans because Zimbabwe is a pariah state. The problem had the Zanu PF regime worried sick, it knows that these are the kind of events that could triggered social unrest.
With unemployment a nauseating 90%, most basic services such as supply of clean running water and health care all but collapsed, etc. there is a lot of bottled anger in Zimbabwe today. The Zanu PF government is jumpy whenever there talk of public protest, there are just too many angry people with 1 000 001 damn  reasons to protest against!
With no hope in any meaningful economic recovery in sight, there is no end in Zimbabwe’s economic problems. The foreign currency, food, fuel, medicine, etc. shortages are here to stay.
The Zanu PF dog has a serious infestation of fleas, ticks, mange, rabies, otitis, mycosis and every other dog disease there is out there. And all brought upon itself because of its insatiable greed for absolute power. It never imagined that rigging elections could bring so much trouble.
The challenge is to make sure Zanu PF is forced out of office a.s.a.p. so the country can elect a competent and democratic government, end the country’s pariah state stigma and finally make the country attractive to do business for foreign investors and Zimbabweans alike. The Zanu PF dog must be forced to take a swim in the cattle dip-tank, rabies vaccination, etc. before the fleas, ticks, etc. spread and bringing suffering and death to others!

Empty shelves in supermarkets, rising cooking oil prices and never-ending queues for petrol queues.
In recent weeks it has seemed like Zimbabwe’s economy has returned to the 2008 crisis characterized by hyperinflation and shortages of basic everyday items. Back then, Zimbabweans regularly travelled to Messina, just across the border in South Africa and Mozambique to buy basics like toilet paper and cooking oil. Today, scarcity of goods is once again the new reality for many Zimbabweans.

By rigging the elections President Mnangagwa thought he was securing his hold on power and he did, at least on the short term. But by rigging the elections he has confirmed to the world that Zimbabwe was still a pariah state and thus scarred away all the foreign and local investors. Zimbabwe's economic recovery needs a generous injection of cash and without it the economic chaos of the last few days will come back. Yes the nightmare of the 2008 shortages and chaos are back!

  2. "It is the economy, stupid!" the US President Bill Clinton once said. For America, a healthy and functioning democracy the nation's economic prosperity depended on which leader had the economic policies to deliver economic growth and stability. The issue of what he did or did not do with the pretty young lady behind closed doors was not going to matter in so far as the economy was concerned.

The corresponding catch phrase in Zimbabwe's case would be: "It is the holding of free, fair and credible, stupid!" Zimbabwe under Mugabe had been a dreaded pariah state, ruled by incompetent, corrupt and vote rigging murderous thugs. Whilst the country remains a pariah state it is inconceivable that ever end the criminal waste of resources and ever have a competent government.

The sure way for the country to change its tarnished image as pariah state was for it to hold free and fair elections and not just pay lip service to democratic change. And so by failing to hold free and fair elections Mnangagwa confirmed Zimbabwe was a pariah state and what else he did afterward was irrelevant, the country as a pariah state - economic leper of the Biblical times!

Those who think Zimbabwe can still prosper economically, regardless the country having a vote rigging and therefore illegitimate regime in power are day-dreaming!

I suppose the debate should now turn to how to solve the problems in hand. Surely we can't keep on talking about rigging and the like. At the very least they are open compared to the old order. Can't we concentrate on coming up with constructive ideas that solve the current problems. Whether they rigged or not, the status quo is here to stay. So for the good of the country, I would imagine all patriotic Zimbabweans to come up with progressive ideas. At the end of the day, it is not politicians who suffer but the ordinary people.

I agree with 100% that we should focus on solving the problem in hand. Sadly you failed to identify what that problem is and hence went off at a tangent!

The first thing you should have cleared up in your own head is that Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF junta RIGGED the elections because they did. Once that was crystal clear then you would see that your other statements do not make any sense.

By rigging the elections they showed Zimbabwe is still a pariah state ruled by corrupt and vote rigging thugs. Yes there has been changes at the top table but that is all superficial, Zanu PF is still a party of thugs and Zimbabwe is still a pariah state.

The next thing is to accept that Zimbabwe is in this economic mess and political paralysis precisely because for the last 38 years the country has been stuck with a pariah state. There are two key points to be noted here:

    a) That the pariah state is not working and after 38 years of trying to make it work all that has happened is the country sinking deeper and deeper into the abyss. Those talking of giving the vote rigging and therefore illegitimate Zanu PF dictatorship a chance are insane, they are trying the same thugs for 38 years now and still hope for a miracle.

    b) If Zanu PF are allowed to stay in power till 2023 they will rig that election too. These thugs will never "reform themselves out of office", as Professor Jonathan Moyo once admitted.

"Whether they rigged or not, the status quo is here to stay," you say. That is just a feeble excuse to justify your insanity of accepting that the pariah state has not worked but will let it stay hoping against hope that it will deliver the miracles.

Whilst we, Zimbabweans, are free to continue in this madness of accepting a pariah state what we must accept as a matter of fact and reality is that there will be no economic recovery because no investor foreign or local is prepared to risk their money doing business in a pariah state. Mnangagwa can crow "Zimbabwe is open for business!" all he wants, no one will be fooled!

Rigging elections is high treason, Mnangagwa et al have committed high treason and they must held to account. No one, absolutely no one is above the law. The suggestion we should just accept the result as fait accompli is foolishness incarnate.

You talked about solving the problem in hand, well that is the problem in hand - the political insanity of thinking Zimbabwe remain a pariah state and still have economic recovery. The political insanity that Zanu PF have the right to ride roughshod over our freedoms, rights, hopes and dreams of a life with dignity! Mnangagwa and his thugs are not Gods, it is you who has foolishly made them Gods.

Of course, calling someone a cockroach or dog is insulting but the insult takes two distinct routes if the insult is totally unjustified and another when it is justified. Whilst I would call someone who kills an innocent person a mad dog worst still when the murderer is in the position of power and authority and the victims are numbered over 30 000. Still, I would never seek to kill the mad dog without due process unless I have to stop him killing one more person.

I really believe calling these corrupt, vote rigging and murderous Zanu PF thugs mad dogs is completely justified. I do apologise that you found it offensive and I am disappointed that we differ on the matter. Even Jesus did get angry and lashed out when He drove the corrupt dealers out of the temple. So I hope you will find it in you to expect worse behaviour from mere mortals like me and to forgive.
