When President Mnangagwa finally took over the presidency, after 37 years of waiting in the wings, he was determined not to repeat the disastrous mistakes of his former boss the deposed dictator Robert Mugabe. He never doubted, for a second, that he would have the country back on firm economic recovery and prosperity. He expected Zimbabwe, under his leadership, to have the fairytale ending of “they all live happily ever after!”
If wishes were horses beggars would ride!
President Mnangagwa’s “Zimbabwe is open for business!” has had no takers. The flood of investors “to take advantage of the many golden business opportunities”, as he argued; have never materialised. Zimbabwe’s worsening economic situation, shortage of foreign currency, food, fuel, medicine, etc. is a manifestation of economic meltdown and not the recovery he expected.
If anyone had told Mnangagwa that a year into his presidency he would still be talking about worsening economic hardship for the ordinary people; he would have laughed in disbelief! Yet that is what he is doing now!
"Government is fully aware of the machinations by some detractors and economic opportunists who are bent on creating despondency in the country through the manipulation of the foreign currency market and creating artificial shortages," Mnangagwa told the party’s Central Committee meeting.
"This has caused untold suffering to our people. As a listening President, I have heard their cries and my Government is determined to provide solutions to these perennial challenges.
"The lifting of the ban of Statutory Instrument (SI) 122 is one such move meant to provide interim relief to our people. My Government will neither let people go without basic commodities, nor allow the willy-nilly depletion of incomes by a few rogue businesses and persons.”
His original solution to attract investors was the right solution because it was going to inject the much needed new investment and cash to kickstart the comatose economy. The investors did not come because they were not easily fooled by the regime’s claim of a “new democratic Zimbabwe”.
When President Mnangagwa failed to keep his promise to hold free, fair and credible elections; he confirmed that Zimbabwe was indeed still a pariah state ruled by corrupt and vote rigging thugs. Investors do not do business in pariah states, period!
The so-called “solutions” this Zanu PF regime now been pursuing have made the bad economic situation worse. The new 2% tax will hit the poorest of the poor hard.
Turning those trading in currency into criminals will not solve Zimbabwe’s foreign currency shortage nor will reintroducing price controls guarantee supply of goods at low prices!
President Mnangagwa is a corrupt, incompetent and vote rigging thug; “Mugabe mark 2”, as British MP Kate Hoey rightly said. As much as he has wanted to do things differently; the incompetence, corruption, vote rigging, etc. - the base premedical thug characteristics in him - have come to the fore. How can there be meaningful economic recovery with the price controls, corruption, the country still a pariah state, etc.?
The people are not crying for Zanu PF “to provide solutions” the country’s many teething problems. The people accept that Zanu PF has failed to provide solutions and are crying for the right to elect someone else who can. After 38 years of Zanu PF rule, things have got worse and worse; the party’s record of failure is beyond dispute.
The people of Zimbabwe have suffered a great deal under this incompetent, corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship and all they want from the regime is for it to step down. The regime rigged the recent elections, it is illegitimate and it should step down to allow the nation to move on.
“As a listening President, I have heard their cries and my Government is determined to provide solutions to these perennial challenges.” You are clearly not listening; the people are crying for you and your junta to go and not for you to keep imposing yourself and your ill-advised solutions on the nation. Mr President, you and your vote rigging junta are the nation’s greatest perennial problem and the solution is for you to step down right now!
So, after 19 years, how many democratic changes has the party, elected on the ticket bring democratic changes, brought? Not even one!
ReplyDeleteThe party had its best chances to bring about real and lasting democratic change in Zimbabwe during the 2008 to 2013 GNU; they failed to get even one reform implemented. Not one!
The GNU was "about power, position and chlorinating infectious Zanu PF", Nelson Chamisa has since confessed! Not that the MDC change Zanu PF in any way, it was all about being deceitful.
Indeed MDC's history has been about deceiving the people. Chamisa told the nation "MDC has stringent measures to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections!" He just wanted to deceive the people on why the party was taking part in the elections with no reforms in place.
Whilst it is true that Zanu PF rigged the 30 July 2018 elections, with everybody who is anybody saying so including the EU. Chamisa has tried to deceive people by claiming he won the presidential vote. He claims to have polled 2.6 million votes but has stubbornly refuse to produce the V11 forms to back this up.
Instead of MDC standing for Movement for Democratic Change it should stand for Movement for Deceitful Change!
Mnangagwa is a tyrant whose love of power knows no bounds. Like all tyrants he believes he alone knows what the country's problems are and the solutions to all the problems. Even with a mountain of evidence of Zanu PF catastrophic failures, he still maintains Zanu PF is the only party of government especially now with himself in charge.
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot more to free, fair and credible elections than everyone with the right to vote being given the opportunity to do so. Those who believe in giving the people a meaningful vote are, per se, acknowledging that no one individual has the monopoly of knowledge and everyone should be heard.
The corollary is equally true, those who do not believe in free, fair and credible elections do not believe anyone else other than themselves know what is in their own individual interest. Mnangagwa and his junta has been rigging elections because they believe the people would elect the wrong government if they were given a free and meaningful vote.
Mnangagwa has very selective hearing; he has heard the people's cries for an end to their economic hardships and is responding with more of the same Zanu PF voodoo economic. What he has elected not to hear is the people's cry for free, fair and credible elections.
Zanu PF does not want us to discuss the rigged elections because that is not an issue to them because they view rigging the elections as a necessary evil to keep the party in power regardless of its performance and what everyone else say. This is just an exercise in futility because whilst Zanu PF remains in power the regime has continued to pursue its voodoo economic policies regardless what everyone else has said.
The challenge is to focus on the rigged elections and demand an end to this curse and refused to be boxed into discussing side issues over which Zanu PF alone has the final say.

You rigged the recent elections and therefore, by right, should step down as you are illegitimate. You are refusing to step down and using the threat of violence to hold the nation to ransom. Zimbabwe is going to put an end to vote rigging and tyrannical rule. Your days in power are numbered and we ask you to step down peacefully or you will be forced to one way or the other!
Zimbabwe has a bloated civil service, Army, cabinet, etc. and Mnangagwa has not addressed this problem. He was reduced his cabinet but has kept another cabinet by the back door!

ReplyDeleteIndustry and Commerce Minister Mangaliso Ndlovu yesterday confirmed the bakeries' decision to increase the price of bread and said the increase would have made bread unaffordable.
We have had price controls before and they did not work. Of course, we would all want our bread at half the price the Bakers wanted to charge but for how long can we expect bakers to supply bread if they are running at a lose. The end result is there will be no bread, period!
This is just a knee-jerk reaction of a regime that has no clue what it is doing!
We have been stuck with this corrupt, incompetent and vote rigging Zanu PF dictatorship for the last 38 years and counting. The real big issue here is are we smart enough to realise that we are just going round and round in circles. Are we smart enough to realise that the so called Second Republic is no different from the First Republic - we still have the same incompetent, corrupt vote rigging thugs in power or be it the top dog and one or two others have been replaced?
Are we smart enough to know that the recent elections were rigged and so will the 2023 elections unless we finally wake up and demand meaningful political change right now? If Zanu PF is still in power to run the 2023 elections, we can be certain on one thing right now - another landslide Zanu PF victory!

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has been given a November 1 ultimatum to step down from office by opposition pressure group Tajamuka/Sesijikile and Zimbabwe Students Union (ZINASU) at Saturday's MDC 19th anniversary celebrations in Harare.

How many ultimatums have the opposition issued and how many have come and gone with Zanu PF ignoring the demands and nothing ever happened. People will not be holding their breath on this one!

Now he is telling us he is going to fire the ghost civil servants, fix the economic meltdown, etc., etc. but he has told us this a year ago. Why did he not fire the ghost workers? Why did he not fix the economy?
Of course, we all know why he did not bother; he knew he was going to rig the elections and so we the victims of the economic meltdown who have suffered all these last 38 years could never hold him and his junta to account over the worsening economic situation.
Mnangagwa has done nothing to cut the bloated civil service especially the super numeral Chefs. He was appointed new faces into his cabinet and told the old guard they could all work for the party on their full ministerial salaries and perks. “Muchagara! Mugogara!” (You will stay! And stay!) he assured them.
As long as Mnangagwa and his junta are still in office come 2023 elections, we can be certain of one thing - Zanu PF will rig these elections. Zanu PF will do nothing to end our economic suffering because the party does not need to do anything; it is not accountable to us on the coal face of the economic meltdown.
The challenge before us is how to force Mnangagwa and Zanu PF to step down so we can do something to end this curse of rigged elections. So we can replace this corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship with a good and accountable democratic regime responsive to the people’s needs!
