"Masiyiwa calls for removal of sanctions who dare contradict" - I dare, here he is hopeless wrong P Guramatunhu

In augmenting Masiyiwa’s sentiments Obert Gutu tweeted:”Now when a whole billionaire like Strive Masiyiwa calls for the removal of sanctions against Zimbabwe, iwe zvako Mupurwa…iwezvako Zuze… (you lizard … you nobody) you still clamour that sanctions shouldn’t be removed! Who does that?”

I, Patrick Gachidzai Guramatunhu, do call for sanctions to remain!

“The political change in Zimbabwe is real,President Mnangagwa is sincere, sanctions must go, politicking must stop and let’s focus on rebuilding the country,” said Masiyiwa.

Zimbabwe is still a pariah state as President Mnangagwa himself has so graphically proven to be so by blatantly rigging the elections. Zimbabwe is still ruled by the same corrupt, incompetent and vote rigging thugs who ruled the roost before the November 2017 military coup; or be it the dictatorship has a new top dog and one or two other musical chair changes.

The Americans made it very clear that the sanctions will be lifted if Zanu PF held free, fair and credible elections. This did not happen and so the sanctions must stay and rightly so too!

If Masiyiwa thinks there can ever be any meaningful economic recovery whilst Zimbabwe remains a pariah state ruled by incompetent, corrupt and vote rigging thugs then he is more naive and stupid than he looks. He has failed to understand why investors have shied away from investing in Zimbabwe these last 20 years and will continue to do so until there is real political change in the country.

Even the Chinese are not investing in Zimbabwe and have not done so for the last 20 years for the same reason; no one wants to do business in a pariah state ruled by corrupt and wasteful thugs.

Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown is the product of 38 years of wasted resources and opportunities due to gross mismanagement, rampant corruption and the lawlessness that has made it near impossible for honest business activities to operate. Ordinarily, the people would have stop the wastefulness long before it got out of hand by forcing those in power to address the mismanagement, corruption, etc. and electing new leaders. Zanu PF has rigged elections making the regime unaccountable to the people.

Zimbabwe’s economic recovery will never happen, not as long as the corrupt, incompetent and vote rigging Zanu PF regime remains in power. It is disappointing that someone like Strive Masiyiwa would be so naive and stupid to think anything of substance can ever be accomplished whilst Zimbabwe remains a pariah state.

The only realistic hope of Zimbabwe ending this curse of pariah state is for the country to hold free, fair and credible elections. But for that to happen, we must first implement the democratic reforms designed to stop Zanu PF rigging elections. (The same reform Obert Gutu and the rest of the MDC leaders failed to implemented in five years of the 2008 GNU.)

Since Zanu PF will never implement any reforms, we have no choice but to force the regime to step down to allow the appointment of an interim administration that will implement the reforms. Zanu PF rigged the 30 July 2018 elections and, per se, have no mandate to govern and must step down.

The sanction against the regime is the added pressure for the regime to step down and therefore only a village idiot would want them lifted.

Mr. Obert Gutu is desperate for some political limelight, the very poor performance of the Ms Khupe led MDC faction of which he is the deputy, has left Gutu desperate for some political relevance. Mr Gutu even “a whole billionaire Masiyiwa” can be hopelessly wrong. No Gutu, it you are the Mupurwa, who sell-out on reforms and who believe the rich know everything!

  1. The condition for lifting the sanctions was clear enough - hold free, fair and credible elections. So is Strive saying the elections were free and fair or does he think we can still have economic recovery even if Zimbabwe remains a pariah state? It is foolish to think we can have a prosperous nation under this corrupt and tyrannical dictatorship.

Poor Obert Gutu, he is the Mupurwa who thinks just because someone is rich they must know everything. Masiyiwa is hopeless wrong in calling for the lifting of sanctions they help pile the pressure on Zanu PF to step down!

  2. With all due respect to you sir, I would like to ask you to list atleast 3 immediate and long term benefits of these sanctions to the people of Zimbabwe.

As far as I am concerned the poor masses have borne the brunt and not the rich elite like Mnangagwa. For interest sake , the same sanctions failed to force Mugabe out, instead it forced many Zimbabweans out. Still the impact was felt hard by the poor

  3. One of the tragic reality of living in a totalitarian state is that there is no meaningful debate on important matters. The regime monopolises the the media to make sure its point of view alone is heard. What most Zimbabweans know about sanctions is what the Zanu PF regime wanted them to believe and those falsehoods have never been challenged and have then been repeated over and over again. Still one would expect an inquisitive population to have started question the regime's point of view given the economic reality.

Blaming the country's economic collapse on the sanction is one thing but when there is growing evidence of how filthy rich the ruling elite are because of corruption common sense will force one to question whether they are being told half truths. When the regime admits as much as $15 billion in diamond revenue is being swindled, one is forced to sit up and start to question the regime's sanction stories.

The sanctions stories were exposed as hen's teeth stories this time when the Americans throw the challenge of hold free, fair and credible elections and we will lift the sanctions. One would expect someone as sophisticated as Mr Strive Masiyiwa to question why Zanu PF failed to hold free and fair elections.

It is unbelievable that Mr Masiyiwa would not know that Zanu PF rigged the recent elections.

So is Mr Masitiwa himself being sincere when he says President Mnangagwa is being sincere about wanting meaningful change in Zimbabwe?

  4. @ Nkomah Isaac

“It really hurts when noble business owners like Masiyiwa is yet to be enlightened on the Zimbabwe's situation. He has joined boot licking squad that see no evil at the expense of his all-time supportive clients. I have very few questions to fire towards you Strive.

    1. Are sanctions real and effectively causing suffering of Zim populace?

    2. When 15 billion from the sale of diamonds is allegedly missing you say our suffering is due to sanctions?,” you said.

Could not agree with you more, my brother!

How is it possible that someone like Strive Masiyiwa, with all his reputation as a successful businessman, has failed to see the linkage between the country’s economic meltdown and the wholesale looting taking place in Zimbabwe? If Zimbabwe was his business, would he expect it to thrive when $15 billion is being swindled every two or three years give Zimbabwe’s GDP is only $10 billion?

The root cause of Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown is the country’s failure to remove the corrupt and incompetent Zanu PF party from office. Everyone knows that the sanctions were imposed to force Zanu PF to hold free, fair and credible elections. Mnangagwa rigged the recent elections and so the country is still stuck.

The only logic explanation why Masiyiwa is ignoring the political realities, that Zanu PF and not sanctions is the root cause of our economic problems, to side with ED is because Masiyiwa sees an opportunity to make more money working with the regime. He does not care one bit that he will be profiting on the misery of millions of innocent Zimbabweans. He is no different from those blacks who sold their kith and kin to the white slave traders two centuries ago for a fist of beads and a piece of calico cloth!

The cold hearted indifference to own’s people, to sell one’s own friend for thirty pieces of silver, is a weakness to be found in every society. Sadly, Zimbabwe has more than its fair share of these Judas Iscariot scum of the earth!

“Nkomah Isaac...Zimbabwe is a democratic country. Everyone, yourself included is entitled to your own opinion. Thats one of the tenets of democracy which you pretend to promote. So can you leave Strive Masiyiwa ALONE with his constitutional rights to comment or give his own opinion. That's his democratic right to do so,” you argue.

You are right that Masiyiwa has the democratic right to express his opinion, outrageous as it clearly is. Isaac has every right to tell Masiyiwa off for talking nonsense and he explained why the views are foolish.

It is you Gift who is the hypocrite here; you want Isaac silenced under the pretext Masiyiwa has the right to express his views and to “be left alone”. The democratic right to express one’s views freely does not any of us a scared cow we dare not criticise. If you think Isaac is wrong in his criticism then say why.

You cannot tell Isaac or anyone to leave Masiyiwa alone especially when he is the one guilty of selling-out to the Zanu PF dictatorship! You are just another Zanu PF apologist who only interest is to stifle debate especially all debate critical of the corrupt and vote rigging Zanu PF thugs!

  6. @ Munemo

“Why do you want Masiyiwa to think like you when you have failed in your own life. He knows very well that there are intellectuals like you who hate progress, continue to live in the past and believe in outmoded superstition,” you say.

You need to learn to focus on the issue on the table and stop bringing in issues that you know nothing about and/or are totally irrelevant. How do you know Isaac is a failure in his life? Even if he was indeed a failure, we are talking about Masiyiwa’s foolish claim that ED is sincere about bring about meaningful change in Zimbabwe and not Isaac’s failures!

Isaac has pointed out such key issue as looting of $15 billion in diamonds that if resolved will bring about real progress in Zimbabwe and not the wishy-washy sanctions Masiyiwa was wittering about.

“Hate progress!” It is brain-dead idiots like you Munemo who are so intolerant of any other points views other than the Zanu PF line who are the real enemies of progress!

  7. Strive Masiyiwa is NOT a village idiot, like our friend Obert Gutu for example who clearly believe the rich are ALWAYS right!

Masiyiwa knows the sanctions were imposed to force Zanu PF to hold free, fair and credible elections. He also knows that Zanu PF rigged the recent elections making Zimbabwe a pariah state. Masiyiwa is a shrewd businessman, he knows that not many investors would ever want to do business in a pariah state because of all the inherent political and economic instabilities in such countries. Still, he also knows that those willing to take these risks will ruck in huge profits too.

Zimbabwe is pariah state, Masiyiwa knows that, but he also knows that if he wants to do business with the Zanu PF thugs he MUST pretend they are not thugs, pretend Zimbabwe has change and hence the statement "Mnangagwa is sincere!"

Of course, Masiyiwa is selling out on the national agenda of forcing Zanu PF to step down following the rigged elections. As long as Zanu PF remains in power no meaningful democratic reforms will ever see the light of day. We need to implement the democratic reforms, they are the pre-requisite for holding free, fair and credible election; itself the pre-requisite for ending the dictatorship and Zimbabwe's pariah state status.

Masiyiwa is a sell-out no different from the Biblical Judas Iscariot and the blacks who sold their kith and kin to the white slave traders for a feast of beads and a piece of calico cloth. Our tragedy is we certainly have more than our fair share of these sell-outs!

  8. @ Marallas

You are a Zanu PF apologist and you can insult Patrick all you like; we all know you are covering up for the regime.

Patrick is 100% correct, Masiyiwa knows that Mnangagwa is NOT sincere in wanting to see meaningful economic recovery and political change in Zimbabwe. Indeed, the only thing Mnangagwa is sincere about is making sure there is NO democratic change, no regime change.

“Zanu PF ichatonga! Igotonga! Igotonga!” (Zanu PF will rule! And rule! And rule!) as Mnangagwa is found of saying!

Masiyiwa is fishing for a business opportunity and it helps to flatter the Zanu PF thugs even if that means selling-out on the common cause of put pressure on Zanu PF to step down to allow meaningful political change. Masiyiwa is a modern day version of those blacks who sold their fellow blacks to the white slave traders for a fistful of beads and a piece of calico cloth.

Zimbabwe’s curse is we have more than our fair share of these sell-outs in Zanu PF, in MDC, in our business community, everywhere.
