“Former President Robert Mugabe’s statement alleging that the country
lost USD15 billion in diamond looting was misplaced and is not true, the parliamentary
portfolio committee on Mines and Energy chaired by Temba Mliswa heard today.
Godwills Masimirembwa, the former ZMDC Board Chairperson claimed that during
his tenure as the organisation’s chairperson, from June 2010 to May 2013, there
was no way that the country could have realised such an amount of revenue from
diamond proceeds,” reported Zimeye.
“Wherever he (Mugabe), got the evidence from
that the country lost USD15 billion through missing diamonds, I would be happy
to get that information,” said Masimirembwa.
This is nonsense, Mai Mujuru and her late husband alone can account for
over $15 billion in diamonds!
Spotlight Zimbabwe reported the following: “Bernd Hagemann, the head of
Firstar Europe, a commodities trading company based in Warrington in the United
Kingdom, said Joice Mujuru phoned him after the company had blacklisted her,
her husband Solomon Mujuru, her daughter Nyasha, Nyasha’s husband Pedro Del
Campo and their South African agent Dancor Spies.
“Nyasha had tried to sell the company 3 700 kg
of gold and several consignments of diamonds.
“The diamonds in batches of two, three, four
and five carat and had a total value of $15 874 366.60.
“The gold was worth $141.9 million at the 2009
prices.”
Spotlight Zimbabwe went on to show documentary evidence of diamond batches.

Grace Mugabe, Saviour Kasukuwere and Professor Jonathan Moyo are just
some of the Zanu PF leaders who threatened to reveal more details of Mai Mujuru’s
looting activities. It is shocking therefore that a very senior executive in
the diamond industry like Masimirembwa would now pretend that he never heard of
Mai Mujuru and her activities in the diamond industry!
The trouble with the parliamentary committee is that its members are
hopeless incompetent. There have been numerous who have appeared before the
committee only for them to walk away scot free because the committee failed to
nail them on anything. The questions put to the individuals were so vague one
could give a thousand different answers and they will all be correct!
Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg has been called on by a parliamentary committee to give evidence about the use of personal data by Cambridge Analytica.
ReplyDeleteNo, not before a Zimbabwe parliamentary committee, that would be a waste of Mark's and the public's time and money. This is before a UK parliamentary committee and, rest assured the MPs will ask pertinent questions leading to a better service to Facebook users and the good of us all! As long as we continue to have rigged elections allowing corrupt, incompetent and utterly useless individuals to hold public office corrupt people like Masimirembwa will continue to loot the nation blind and get away with it.
The sheer arrogance displayed by the many people who have appeared before these Zimbabwe parliamentary committees speaks volumes of how utterly useless these MPs are. There have been numerous parliamentary reports stating the seriousness of the looting in Marange, these MPs have clearly not even bothered to read these reports!
@ Rufaro Gijima
ReplyDelete"As the country moves on from political turmoil, so is the economy, and the recovery of externalized funds (USD $591, 1) million is a good starting point," you say.
President Mnangagwa did not name and shame, much less recover the loot, the big fish who have looted billions of dollars and, as long as they remain untouchable, the looting will continue. Anyone who believes that only the G40 faction members were the only one who were corrupt is very naive. Lacoste faction members were corrupt too and they are the untouchables!
We have a chance to deal decisively with this scourge of corruption but instead of making sure the regime does not get off the hook because it has punished a select few, for its own political benefit and not to end corruption. But with morons like Rufaro celebrating the selected few punished, the regime will never take the decisive action required here!
Zimbabwe's ruling party says Robert Mugabe could lose his immunity and privileges as a former head of state and face expulsion from the party.
ReplyDeleteThis comes after Mugabe last week told journalists that President Emmerson Mnangagwa had been imposed by the army and was in office illegally.
The party will meet.
"Zanu-PF will have to meet to discuss these new developments… to review whether it is still necessary or not for him (Mugabe) to continue enjoying the status we had given him," the party's secretary for legal affairs, Paul Mangwana told the state-run Herald.
So, Zanu PF is going to strip Mugabe of all his privileges because he dared speak the truth! President Mnangagwa was imposed by the army and, per se, is illegitimate; that is a historic fact!
If Mugabe was to be stripped of all his privileges then it must be for the many heinous crimes such as looting, vote rigging and politically motived murders he has committed in his 37 years in power. To punish the tyrant for speaking the truth is a mockery of justice; it only confirms what we already know - that Mnangagwa and his Junta regime are just thugs who have no clue what they are doing!
@ George Mazibuko
ReplyDeleteWhat many people have failed to understand is that the November 2017 coup did not change the quality of government in Zimbabwe; the group of thugs Mugabe was leading are the ones now in government. We are demanding the implementation of reforms BEFORE the elections so that we can have a meaningful regime change!
Chinono, President Mnangagwa and his administration are a military Junta because they seized power in a coup detat and to pretend they are anything else is s sick joke. And to make matters worse, the Junta has refused to implement even one reform, proof the regime has no intention of holding free, fair and credible elections.
ReplyDeleteThe thugs were the ones who have rigged elections in the past and kept Mugabe in power against the will of the people all these years. They intend to rig this year's elections and extend the Junta's stay in power. There is a growing number of Zimbabweans who are sick to the back teeth of rigging elections and they are determined to make sure the Junta will not get away with another rigged election!
@ Muchina
ReplyDeleteTo do that we must first remove this lot from office. To remove Mnangagwa and his Junta from office we must first make sure there are free and fair elections and that means implementing the democratic reform. Sadly, the people the nation entrusted to implement the reform, the MDC politicians, have all proven utterly useless, they are sell-out.
MDC leaders to implement even one reform in the five years of the GNU because Mugabe bribed them with the trappings of high office, a $4 million mansion for Tsvangirai, etc. In return they kicked reforms into the tall grass.
Even now, it is the MDC leaders who are blocking the chance of forcing the implementation of reform by taking part in flawed elections and thus giving the process the credibility it does not deserve. The MDC politicians are after the few gravy train seats Zanu PF gives away as bait to attract the opposition to take part in the elections regardless how flawed the process happens to be!
@ Howard Njule
ReplyDeleteThe diamonds in Marange has become a curse to the nation when it should be a blessing thanks to our corrupt and incompetent leaders.
Zanu PF has been using the billions of dollars looted from Marange to bankroll its vote-rigging juggernaut.
MDC was elected to implement the reforms designed to stop Zanu PF rigging elections but instead of getting that job done the MDC leaders went off at a tangent on a wild-goose chase. Instead of insisting on getting the reforms implemented the new MDC leader, Nelson Chamisa, is wasting time talking about bullet trains and having Wi-Fi on goats (whatever foolish purpose the moron thinks that would serve).
Nations get the government they deserve, we certainly deserve this corrupt, voting rigging and murderous Zanu PF Junta complete with its entourage of corrupt and incompetent opposition parties, all 107 of them.
@ Mbatatisi
ReplyDeletePoint taken, the article above talks of the deal worth $156 million and that is not $15 billion but you are assuming that the above was the only shipment Mai Mujuru has ever made. Why is it so difficult for you to imagine that the Mujurus were not the only one involved in the looting. According to a report by Africa Canada, Robert Mugabe pocketed at least $2 billion from diamond looting in 2012 alone!
With all the wholesale looting that has been going on in Zimbabwe lasting 34 years, for Mai Mujuru, it is not inconceivable that she looted over $15 billion if she sold $156 millions in one deal. She only had to make 100 more such deals in 34 years and she is there.
You have certainly learned far beyond Grade 7 Mathematics and know what <, >, =, etc., etc. mean. Very impressive indeed. It is a great pity that in all that learning you failed to pick up on something call common sense! Your lack of common sense makes you penny-wise but pound foolish. You need someone to spell out everything to you. OK then, the $156 million the Mujurus made was not the only deal they made!
