Donald Trump's bold plan to dismantle the 'Deep State'

In a sweeping statement, former President Donald Trump has outlined his comprehensive plan to dismantle what he refers to as the "Deep State," a term he uses to describe the entrenched bureaucratic apparatus within the U.S. government that he claims has undermined his presidency and subverted democratic principles. The plan touches on several key issues, ranging from national security reforms to transparency and government accountability.

1. Restoring Presidential Authority Over Bureaucrats

Trump’s plan begins with a call to reissue his 2020 executive order aimed at restoring presidential authority to remove what he calls "rogue bureaucrats." The former president has long criticized the so-called Deep State for operating outside of elected leaders' control, claiming that unelected officials have too much power and influence.

2. Overhauling National Security and Intelligence Agencies

Central to Trump's proposal is the removal of what he views as corrupt elements within national security and intelligence agencies. Trump has promised to “clean out” these agencies, calling for a deep overhaul to ensure loyalty to the government and not to hidden interests. He has previously accused parts of the intelligence community of attempting to undermine his presidency.

3. Reforming FISA Courts

Trump has also called for a "total reform" of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) courts, which he describes as corrupt, accusing them of being complicit in the misapplication of surveillance powers. His criticism stems from the controversial use of FISA warrants to investigate members of his 2016 campaign team, alleging that judges were misled in the process.

4. Exposing Hoaxes and Abuses of Power

A significant portion of Trump's plan focuses on exposing what he describes as hoaxes and abuses of power that have divided the nation. He has repeatedly called out investigations into his campaign and presidency, claiming they were part of an effort to discredit him and damage his political reputation.

5. Cracking Down on Government Leakers

In another strong statement, Trump vowed to launch a major crackdown on government leakers whom he accuses of colluding with the "fake news" media to spread false narratives. Trump has long argued that leaks from within the government have undermined his administration and undermined the public’s trust in democratic institutions.

6. Ensuring Inspector General Independence

Trump's reform plan includes making every Inspector General's office completely independent, with physical separation from the departments they oversee. He argues that such independence would prevent these watchdog agencies from becoming part of the Deep State protection network.

7. Establishing Independent Auditing of Intelligence Agencies

A significant part of Trump’s agenda involves the creation of an independent auditing system through Congress to monitor intelligence agencies. This system would ensure that these agencies are not spying on American citizens, running disinformation campaigns, or targeting political opponents, a claim Trump has made regarding the surveillance of his 2016 campaign.

8. Decentralizing Federal Bureaucracy

Trump is also pushing for a continued effort, begun during his administration, to relocate parts of the federal bureaucracy outside Washington, D.C. This initiative, he argues, would reduce the concentration of political influence in the nation’s capital and lessen the power of the Washington "Swamp."

9. Banning 'Revolving Door' Employment

Another key proposal in Trump's plan is to ban federal bureaucrats from taking jobs at the companies they regulate. This would aim to reduce conflicts of interest and prevent government officials from using their positions to benefit private industries after their terms in office.

10. Supporting Term Limits for Congress

Finally, Trump is calling for a constitutional amendment to impose term limits on members of Congress. He argues that this would reduce career politicians' ability to form entrenched power structures and promote fresh leadership in Washington.

Trump's sweeping proposals are part of his ongoing political platform, aimed at curbing the influence of bureaucrats and entrenched interests in government. Critics of Trump’s agenda argue that these reforms could weaken the ability of government institutions to function independently, while supporters see it as a much-needed correction to a system they view as unaccountable and out of touch with the American people.

As Trump continues to position himself for a potential future run for president, his push to dismantle the so-called Deep State is likely to be a central theme in his political messaging moving forward.”

Some of these moves make sense.
