Zanu PF is rigging
the 2023 elections! No one in Zimbabwe should ever say they did not know this!
“Team Pachedu said
a total of 170 867 addresses that were in the 2018 voters roll have been edited
by Zec between 2018 and 2022, with Glen View South having the highest number of
edited addresses (19 758), followed by Mangwe, Lupane East, Zaka East, Luveve,
Kuwadzana and Chiredzi North,” reported Bulawayo 24.
"Zec has also moved many people from Glen View South constituency to Harare
South constituency. The mass movement of voters across constituencies and wards
when addresses have not changed implies that Zec is illegally changing
electoral boundaries," Team Pachedu said on Twitter.
"One typical illegal movement involves hundreds of voters from Zvimba East
to Glen View South (Chirangano Car Park Tent).”
Zanu PF is rigging
these 2023 elections; the party has been rigging elections since the country’s
first post-independence elections in 1980. In 1980 the party had no control
over any part of the electoral process however its campaign message to the
voters was clear as bell – if Zanu PF does not win the election, the bush war
would continue. The people voted to end the war!
Once in power, the
regime has captured the various state institutions such as ZEC, Police,
Judiciary, Army, war veterans, traditional leaders, etc. so that they all
worked to deliver a Zanu PF electoral victory. The vote rigging has grown in extend
and sophistication over the years.
The vote rigging
juggernaut has been funded by the party’s capture of every facet of human economic
activity allowing mismanagement and corruption to grow and spread. Mismanagement
and corruption are the cancers killing the nation and yet everyone is
frightened of cutting them out because they are so widespread and deep rooted
and go to the heart of everything the patient will be just an empty shell after
the operation!
Besides, it is no
secret that Zanu PF thugs have vowed to burn down the whole country than see some
one else rule Zimbabwe! Of course, Zanu PF thugs are holding the nation to
ransom and those who are burying their heads in the sand and pretend the
opposition can win rigged elections are only helping Zanu PF achieve its no
regime change objective!
There is no denying
that Zanu PF is rigging these elections and by insisting on participating in
the elections with no reforms, the opposition are giving vote rigging Zanu PF
legitimacy and thus perpetuating the dictatorship.
Stopping the Zanu
PF dictatorship was not ease from the start since the party was the one that
spear headed the war to end white colonial rule; as the liberation war heroes, Mugabe
and company viewed it as their divine right to rule. Still, if it was hard to
stop the Zanu PF dictatorship in the 1980s, it is even harder doing so now. After
42 years of enjoying absolute power and all the influence and wealth it has
brought. Zanu PF ruling elite and the cronies have become addicted to power and
they are buried deep in their trenches; flushing them out will not be ease.
The only sure way
to end the Zanu PF dictatorship peacefully is by insisting on the
implementation of democratic reforms to ensure free, fair and credible
elections. Those who think Zanu PF will ever lose elections in which it has
carte blanche powers to rig are daydreaming; that will never ever happen.
Chamisa and his CCC
friends are calling on people “to vote and then stay at the Polling Station to
defend their vote!” This is a call to protest the rigged election results and
we all know there is no such thing as “peaceful protest” in Zimbabwe.
Violent street
protests and/or another military coup will end the Mnangagwa Zanu PF
dictatorship but at the cost of wanton distraction of property, human suffering
and many lives. And, worst of all, there is no guarantee the system of
government to emerge out of the ashes will not be yet another dictatorship,
even worse than the Zanu PF dictatorship.
It is tragic the nation, even now after 42 years of rigged elections, is spurning option of peaceful change by demanding reforms before elections. Holding the elections without reforms will result in Zanu PF rigging the elections and trigger violent protests, guaranteed!
Addressing a press conference at the party's headquarters in Harare, Zanu-PF's national political commissar Mike Bimha said several supporters were injured in the incident.
ReplyDelete"This morning our members were attacked in Njube Bulawayo. We had campaigning teams who were going around doing their business and we have been informed that they were then attacked by members of the opposition," Bimha said.
This is Zanu PF hunting territory and the party will love to keep the opposition and the nation bogged down in this area and talk of nothing else. This is the area the party knowns it will always emerge as the winner because it has its own well-funded war veterans and militia backed by the whole state machinery of Police, Army, CIO, judiciary, etc., etc.
The nation had the golden opportunity to implement the democratic reforms and put an end to this sick culture of political violence once and once for all during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. Sadly, the task of implementing reforms was give to Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends; Mugabe bribed them with the trappings of high office and they forgot about the reforms.
“Mazivanhu eMDC adzidza kudya anyerere!” (MDC leaders has learned to enjoy the good life, they will not rock the boat!) boasted Zanu PF cronies when asked why MDC leaders were not implementing the reforms during the GNU.
Now we have the MDC/CCC leaders insidiously participating in flawed elections on the basis of the oxymoronic claim they have “winning in rigged elections strategies”.
The nation is being dragged into a violent confrontation as the only way to bring change! Like all violent confrontations there will be death and distraction and there is no guarantee the system to emerge at the end of the day will be any better than the mess we are in right now!
We have taken note of ZEC’s statement.
ReplyDeleteSadly, the statement does not explain anything, e.g., the mass movement of voters across wards and constituencies when addresses HAVE NOT changed.
We urge ZEC to provide statistical counterevidence and not these empty statements.
ZEC lied in its statement that there was no mass-movement of voters across wards.
This list shows that many Bubi Constituency Ward 22 residents have now been moved to totally different wards, yet their addresses have NOT CHANGED,” Team Pachedu argued.
Even with all the best will in the world, Team Pachedu will never know all the mischief ZEC will get up to. Team Pachedu will never stop Zanu PF rigging these elections. Never!
If we are serious about free, fair and credible elections and putting an end to this curse of political violence and bad governance then we must bite the bullet and implement the raft of democratic reforms proposed in the 2008 GPA. The oxymoronic idea of “winning rigged elections” must be dismissed here and now with the contempt it rightly deserves!
In the review application, Moyo and his wife are challenging the compulsory acquisition of their 623-hectare farm, which they bought for Z$6 million (US$105,400 at the time) from the government in 2002.
ReplyDeleteIn May 2019, two years after Moyo was forced to flee to Kenya when the military overthrew President Robert Mugabe, the new lands minister Perrance Shiri wrote to Moyo withdrawing the government’s offer letter for the farm, issued in 2001.
Shiri said the intention was to “downsize” their holding in the farm, which he claimed was “underutilised.”
Other former Mugabe ministers including Saviour Kasukuwere, Patrick Zhuwao and Mandi Chimene are also in court resisting moves to grab their farms.
Zanu PF has resisted calls to grant people title deeds to land dished out during the land distribution and to the rural areas because the party is obsessed about control of every facet in the country and it has used this total control to reduce everyone into a medieval serf beholden to the party and its proxies!
Giving the rural people title deeds, the one thing they can call their own is now imperative, non-negotiable composite plank of the democratic reform agenda! Freedom of expression, right to vote, etc. are all of great importance to the middle income and professionals with property and enjoy many other freedoms and rights. The rural peasants have nothing; they need something to hold and cherish here and now!
ZANU-PF politburo member, Tshinga Dube, has urged the people of Matabeleland not to give up on voting saying that is the only way they can have a voice in the governance of the country.
ReplyDeleteVoting is important but it will be very foolish to ignore that voting, like many other things in this world, in the wrong hands can and has been abused.
“I consider it completely unimportant who in the party will vote, or how; but what is extraordinarily important is this—who will count the votes, and how,” said Joseph Stalin in 1923.
Zimbabwe has held elections every five years since 1980 and Zanu PF has always emerged victorious even when the opposition has won 73% of the votes, as in the March 2008 vote, the party has always managed to cook up the results in its favour. It is therefore foolish, to say the least, to pretend there is nothing amiss with Zimbabwe’s election process.
Zimbabwe elections are not free, fair and credible and therefore it is insane to keep participating in the flawed process expecting change when all one is doing is giving Zanu PF legitimacy!
A little learning is a dangerous thing;
Drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring:
There shallow draughts intoxicate the brain,
And drinking largely sobers us again.
Alexander Pope, English poet and satirist.
Zimbabwe has more than its fair share of shallow minded people drunk with their little learning and are now a danger to the nation, dragging the nation deeper and deeper into the abyss in pursuit of the oxymoronic nonsense of “winning rigged elections!”
Addressing a Press conference in Harare, Zanu-PF spokesperson Chris Mutsvangwa said: "Tsvangirai was a national institution and his name and the MDC party equally a beacon for the fight in Zimbabwe for what is just and what is democratic, now the name disappears in history, now Tsvangirai is gone, replaced by Chete Chete Chete and the name MDC is gone too, finished just like that can you imagine."
ReplyDeleteI believe that one of these fine days, Zimbabwe will break free from the strangle hold of this Zanu PF dictatorship and have the freedom to look back to these nightmare years. People will know the sickening cynicism in Mutsvangwa calling Tsvangirai the “beacon for democracy” when it was the latter’s treasonous betrayal of the cause by failing to implement even one meaningful reform during the 2008 to 2013 GNU that has kept the Zanu PF dictatorship alive and thriving to this day.
Of course, Tsvangirai sold out big time and Mugabe and the Zanu PF dictatorship were the primary beneficiaries. He is a hero to the Zanu PF thugs and murderers and cannot therefore be hero to the ordinary people and democrats too
@ MP Choto
ReplyDelete“A leaked US diplomatic cable described him as "a flawed figure, not readily open to advice, indecisive and with questionable judgment."
I believe, however, Tsvangirai will best be remembered for leading the struggle to reform Zimbabwe's politics, currently in the tight grip of independence war veterans who feel a strong sense of entitlement but lack the competence of modern statecraft. He was and still is the face of opposition politics, the man who dismantled Zanu-PF's one-party state project.”
The trouble with some of our political analyst is they are not objective even with the benefit of hindsight. The 2008 to 2013 GNU was about implementing democratic reforms to stop a repeat of blatant cheating and wanton violence of the 2008 elections. The task of implementing the reforms was left to Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends. They failed to implement even one reform in five years because Robert Mugabe bribed them with the trappings of high office.
The failure to implement the reforms has left the nation stuck with the Zanu PF dictatorship with the disastrous consequences we all can see. Zanu PF has used the GNU to rebrand and consolidate its hold on power.
How any political analyst worth his salt can fail to see Morgan Tsvangirai for the corrupt, incompetent and utterly useless leader he is beggars belief!
THE Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) yesterday said it has registered 25 603 new voters since the beginning of the mobile voter registration campaign two weeks ago.
ReplyDeleteEarly this year, Zec was caught in the eye of a storm after it said it had registered 2 000 new voters in 2021 despite a massive campaign by political parties and civic society organisations (CSOs) to encourage people to register to vote.
In a statement yesterday, Zec said Harare province had the highest number of new registrants with 7 841, while 1 133 people registered in Matabeleland South province, the least recorded.
In the whole of 2021, 54 weeks, ZEC registered 3 000 voters or 55 voters per week. In the last two weeks the same body registered 25 603 voters or 12 800 voters per week. A staggering 25 500% increase!
“The final results as announced by the Electoral Commission (ZEC) contained numerous errors and lacked adequate traceability, transparency and verifiability,” stated the EU 2018 Zimbabwe Election Observer Mission final report.
When you are going to come up with such far-fetched achievements as a 25 500% performance improvement you cannot afford to be transparent or produce a verified voters’ roll. It should be noted here and now that ZEC has never ever produced a verified voters’ roll ever since the country’s independence in 1980 although this is a legal and common-sense requirement.
It should also be noted that MDC has participating in these flawed elections knowing fully well ZEC had failed to produce some thing as basic as a verified voters’ roll. Chamisa and company have known that Zanu PF was giving away a few gravy train seats to entice the opposition to participate regardless how flawed the process, MDC have found the bribe irresistible!
Zanu PF is rigging these elections and CCC are participating out of greed to give Zanu PF legitimacy. After 42 years of rigged elections, this madness cannot be allowed to go on unchecked! We demand reforms before elections, or we will never see an end to these kiyakiya ZEC trickery.
It is interesting that Team Pachedu, a group of political activists are doing more to uncover ZEC shortcomings and holding them to account than Nelson Chamisa and his MDC/CCC party have done. Worse still, whilst Team Pachedu are pushing hard to have these glaring irregularities and illegalities ironed out Chamisa and company are focused on participating in the elections regardless of the flaws.
ReplyDeleteMDC leaders had the golden chance to implement the democratic reforms during the 2008 to 2013 GNU; they failed to get even one reform implemented because their had their snouts in the feeding trough.
“Mazivanhu eMDC adzidza kudya anyerere!” (MDC leaders have learned to enjoy the trappings of high office, they will not rock the boat!) boasted one Zanu PF crony when asked why MDC leaders were not implementing any reforms during the GNU.
In an interview with Trevor Ncube, Dr Simba Makoni revealed within a month of getting into office Mugabe was pampering his Zanu PF cronies with E-Series Mercedes Benz and other luxuries to replace the Peugeot Smith had for his ministers. The same trappings were extended to Tsvangirai and his banded mongoose friends; they were in heaven and no wonder they threw all reforms out of the window never to be retrieved.
Chamisa and company have given up the fight for reforms and free elections. They know they are giving Zanu PF legitimacy by participating in these flawed elections and yet there is no stopping them doing so. Zanu PF is offering a share of the spoils of power as a bribe and Chamisa and company have found this irresistible.
It is for the people of Zimbabwe to finally wake up to the reality of MDC/CCC duplicity and deceit!
MDC/CCC will participate in these elections regardless how irregular and illegal the process gets, they have done so in the past and there is nothing to suggest they are changing. MDC/CCC leaders are participating in these flawed elections for the same reason they participating in the GNU and would not rock the boat by implementing even one reform - greed.
ReplyDeleteZanu PF leaders know that MDC/CCC are greedy and as long as the party offers them a share of the spoils of power the opposition will participate in these elections giving Zanu PF legitimacy.
Why would Zanu PF implement even one reform when they know MDC/CCC will participate no matter what and give Zanu PF legitimacy!
A picture of former MDC-T leader Thokozani Khupe together with CCC Vice President Professor Welshman Ncube and former MDC-T Organising Secretary Abedinico Bhebhe in what appears to be process to reconcile the former deputy Prime Minister and Nelson Chamisa has ruffled feathers in the newly formed yellow movement.
ReplyDeleteWhile exiled former Zanu PF politburo member Professor Jonathan Moyo is celebrating the success of his engineered move, the Kent University lecturer Alex Magaisa is not amused and has expressed a strong sentiment against the lack of communication on the move.
Magaisa said lack of communication leads to speculation which will not help the newly formed movement especially at a time when it is under attack from the Zanu PF regime.
“True, sometimes those in cockpit must make tough decisions as they steer the plane. But communication with the passengers remains important, lest there’s uncertainty, confusion and panic. Lack of communication or half messages lead to speculation which is equally unhelpful.
“When you make important decisions, explain to the people what’s going on and why. People want to believe their leaders have the wisdom to make the right decisions. But don’t leave in a position where they must speculate. Communicate. Communicate. Communicate.
“The CCC has the ball at its feet & everyone wants it. That’s why there’s a flurry of propaganda & other destabilisation efforts from the regime. But the Yellow Train is moving. The only people that can derail it are the leaders of the CCC if they lose focus & make mistakes.
“Whatever decisions they take, they must be smart, well thought out & well-timed. An otherwise good decision made at the wrong time can have terrible consequences. But above all, don’t keep your people in the dark. Communicate with them. Show them some respect
“If you see your people speculating too much or asking “What’s going on here?” it suggests you’re not communicating well with them. It’s not a good habit. Keep your people onside by communicating well with them. If it’s good news they will support you. If not, hear them out,” said Magaisa.
Magaisa is just an empty head given to making a lot of noise. “People want to believe their leaders have the wisdom to make the right decisions.” MDC failed to implement even one meaningful reform during the GNU, what that “wisdom to make the right decision”? Ncube has a meeting with Khupe and the village idiot makes a mountain out of a molehill!
@ Dr Mavaza
ReplyDeleteRobert Mugabe breathed a huge sigh of relief when it turned out that MDC had failed to implement even one token democratic reform at the end of the 2008 to 2013 GNU. Even the cunning Robert Mugabe could believe that not even one out of the over 150 MDC MPs, Senators, Ministers, two Deputy PMs and PM Tsvangirai himself over the period of five years would have the common sense to demand the implementation of democratic reforms. And yet that is exactly what happened.
The MDC leaders have proven to be breathtakingly corrupt and incompetent, and Zanu PF has greatly benefited from this again and again. Right now, CCC leaders are participating in these flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy for the sake of a few gravy train seats.
“Revolutionary parties have been distinguished by a distinctive oraganizational form, a characteristic political ideology, and an integral conception of membership!” Yeah right! Zanu PF would have been history by 2013 at the latest if it had not been for MDC/CCC being breathtakingly corrupt and incompetent! A couper le souffle corrompu et incompetent!
Indeed, Zanu PF were not so corrupt and competent then why would Zimbabwe be in such a mess!
Regarding allegations of too many transfers, the public is hereby informed that the Electoral Law permits any voter who has become resident in another constituency or ward to transfer their registration to that constituency or ward upon production of their proof of identity and requisite residence documents. It is incumbent upon registered voters resident in that constituency or ward to object to the new registration if they feel that that is not the case. ZEC has no authority to deny a voter his or her right to transfer.
ReplyDeleteThe Commission would like to state that the allocation of polling stations to registrants is purely determined by their proofs of residence presented to voter registration officers.
Voter registration officers are not duty-bound to go and physically check whether
the details on the affidavits and other proofs of residence presented to them by prospective registrants are correct or not. It behoves on all eligible voters and other stakeholders to act in good faith in relation to all electoral processes and the public is reminded that an affidavit is a sworn statement and If one presents fake information on affidavits used as proof of residence, they commit an offence of perjury.
In a video that circulated on social media Dr Matamadanda revealed that as Zanu PF national political commissar he proposed that the party could reach its target of 5 million registered voters by breaking one cell to create two, two branches to create three, three or four wards to create five or six wards, etc., etc. Recent reports of ZEC registering 25 603 voters in two weeks when only 3 000 had registered in the whole of 2021, the movement of voters from one ward or Polling Station to another, the creation of new wards and Polling Stations, etc. is evidence the Ambassador Matamadanda’s strategy is being implemented.
ZEC and Zanu PF will continue implementing these vote rigging strategies confident that Chamisa and company will participate in these flawed elections regardless how flawed the process got as long as they are guaranteed of the few gravy train seats Zanu PF gives away as a bribe.
MDC/CCC do not care that Zanu PF is blatantly rigging these elections and, by participating, CCC is giving Zanu PF legitimacy. It is for the ordinary Zimbabweans to wake-up to this political reality and reject the sell-out of their right to free elections and an end to their suffering under the dictatorship.
Speaking to NewZimbabwe.com after a three-hour meeting with Mnangagwa, ZFTU secretary general, Kennias Shamuyarira said the president blamed Boris Johnson’s government of instigating the teachers’ strike.
ReplyDelete“He (Mnangagwa) cited last year’s incident in which a British minister told the House of Commons that he was working closely with teachers’ unions in Zimbabwe to help in their regime agenda,” Shamuyarira said.
He was referring to an incident in which, minister of State of the UK for South Asia, the UN and the Commonwealth, Tariq Mahmoud Ahmad, claimed some teachers’ unions in Zimbabwe were collaborating with Britain to toppled Mnangagwa’s government.
“However, we shot down the matter and argued that that we could not focus on debates transpiring in other nations and address our shortcomings,” Shamuyarira said.
“For instance, we told him that teachers are on strike purely based on the hardships they are going through. Imagine the poverty datum line is now hovering around ZW$90 000 and a teacher earns just ZW$20 000, it does not require the UK interfere,” he said
Mnangagwa has failed to revive the Zimbabwe economy, his "Zimbabwe is open for business!" mantra failed to impress the would be investors and lenders because they all could see that the country was still a pariah state or be it under new management. The regime has sacrificed basic services like health care and education in a bid to contain inflation the immediate cost to the nation is the starving teachers and closed schools and hospitals.
The long term cost is even worse; the quality of education of the last two decades has been so poor at least 60% of the present 7 to 30 year old are illiterate. What hope is there for meaningful development in the future when 60% of the population is illiterate!
MDC/CCC has always known that Zanu PF rigged elections and with not even one token reform in place Zanu PF is rigging these by-elections and the coming 2023 elections. Chamisa and company are participating in these elections regardless because they also know that Zanu PF is giving away a few gravy train seats as bait. Zanu PF needs the opposition to participate to give the flawed electoral process some modicum of credibility and give the result legitimacy.
ReplyDeleteThe modus operandi is for MDC/CCC leaders to claim they have devised “winning in rigged elections strategies” to hide their greed for participating in flawed elections. When the rigged election result come out, the party will cry foul from the rooftop. No one except the naïve and gullible will take any notice, of course, they all knew the “winning in rigged elections strategies” were hot air!
MDC leaders had the golden opportunity to end the Zanu PF dictatorship during the 2008 to 2013 GNU and the wasted it and now the banded mongoose are the ones keeping Zanu PF in power and perpetuating the dictatorship. After 42 years of rigging elections, it is insane to even listen to this oxymoronic nonsense of winning rigged elections.
Many people have died in the fight for free, fair and credible elections and not to give Zanu PF carte blanche powers to rig the elections and be content with whatever crumbs that fall the regime’s table! Of course, CCC leaders are selling out and conniving with Zanu PF in short changing the ordinary people!
GOVERNMENT yesterday threatened to expel all striking teachers and school heads who fail to report for duty by Tuesday next week and replace them with college graduates and unemployed trained educators.
ReplyDeleteThe threat came despite the High Court yesterday overturning last week's suspension of educators by Primary and Secondary Education minister Evelyn Ndlovu.
So, government thinks that college graduates can do the work without need for a living wage. Last time I check college graduates are human beings who need money for food, accommodation, transport, etc., etc.
As long as Zimbabwe remains a pariah state the country’s economic meltdown is set to get worse not better. The regime has tried to sacrifice education and health care to contain inflation but even then inflation has been rising. Worst of all, no nation can ever survive much less thrive without such basic services as education and health care.
We must dismantle the dictatorship or we are doomed!
A REPORT by the Citizen in Action Southern Africa (CIASA) has shown that Zimbabweans are increasingly losing confidence in the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) over its management of electoral processes.
ReplyDeleteThe report titled Capturing the Judiciary: Reality or Phantom, which was released last Friday, said Zec has been selectively applying its powers, which has resulted in the public doubting its capacity to produce indisputable polls.
After 42 years of rigged elections, CIASA has just noticed for the first time that Zimbabweans are “losing confidence in ZEC”! No wonder the country is in a real mess; when those who are supposedly playing the role of the referee are this slow it will take 1 000 years plus before the country finally has free, fair and credible elections!
We should be demanding reforms and put an end to this meaningless charade and not waste time wittering about something we already know and have known for decades. This CIASA report should be dismissed with the contempt it rightly deserves!
In a statement, Hon Biti’s aide, Emmanuel Zellers Gumbo said:
ReplyDelete“In Harare East, Zanu Pf thugs led by one Ranga have just brutally tortured Citizens Coalition For Change members using iron bars for wearing yellow Advocate Nelson Chamisa branded t-shirts.
We’re currently at Mabvuku Police station.”
This is just a waste of time; the Police will never do anything! As long as Zanu PF retains the carte blanche powers to rig elections and hold the Police, ZEC, etc. captive the party will do whatever it dimes necessary including stepping up on the use of wanton violence, to win the elections.
The only way to free the Police to do their work is by implementing the democratic reforms. Tendai Biti and his fellow banded MDC/CCC mongooses had the opportunity to implement the reforms during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. They wasted the opportunity. And now they are the ones who are insisting on holding these elections without reforms giving Zanu PF legitimacy and all for the sake of the few gravy train seats Zanu Pf is offering as bait.
The ordinary Zimbabweans must now wake-up to the political reality MDC/CCC have sold-out of bringing about meaningful change and free and fair elections. Zanu Pf is rigging these elections and by participating we are giving Zanu PF legitimacy and forfeiting our chance to have the reforms implemented! This insanity must now be stopped!
Mr Hichilema' s handling of corruption has received more mixed reviews. Simutanyi said his amnesty offer to officials who returned stolen money was impractical and allowed them to duck responsibility. When it comes to public service reform, HH is being criticised for not getting rid of corrupt and incompetent Lungu appointees and for hiring only his loyalists or officials from his stronghold regions.
ReplyDeleteUltimately, though, it will probably be his efforts to repair the shattered economy he inherited that will determine how he's judged.
The critical debt question remains open too. Last December the government negotiated a provisional $1.4-billion loan from the International Monetary Fund. This could help pay for the social services increases in the budget and the huge debt.
The loan is conditional though. Among others, it depends on the government maintaining fiscal discipline and negotiating some debt relief under the G20's Common Framework agreed in 2020 to help highly indebted countries like Zambia out of the Covid-19-induced financial crisis.
Chikohomero says Mr Hichilema has yet to inject new life into the economy, though it's still early days. He notes concerns about how to pay for the vast social spending increases while reducing taxes
When some of the criticism start to stick, it is surprising how quickly the democratic space will be closed! The public media will be put under great pressure to report on the regime’s achievements and the private media will be labelled enemy of the state!
The most notable criticism of HH has to be his failure to implement far reaching democratic reforms to guarantee freedom of expression and press freedom, for example. The HH honeymoon is drawing to a close and so too is Zambia’s democratic experiment. It will come as no surprise at all if there are claims Zambia’s next elections are rigged. This is a cycle many African countries have fallen into and have never escaped!
“ZEC says the officials did not follow procedure in handing out the voters roll.”
ReplyDeleteZEC has suspended officials who provided a stakeholder with a 2022 voters roll which unearthed serious irregularities leading to allegations of rigging on social media. ZEC says the officials did not follow procedure in handing out the voters roll. @PacheduZW pic.twitter.com/MdX3uOOwE9
This comes as no surprise! ZEC has never released the voters’ roll for verification, never ever, and it is clear why! ZEC has as many versions of the voters’ roll as there are days in a week.
If you are going to rig elections, you don’t want anyone to know how you are doing much less have the evidence of how you rigged and so ZEC has been very careful never ever to realise the voters’ roll.
Why Zimbabwe’s opposition has insidiously insisted in participating in elections so flawed there is not even a verified voters’ roll has baffled outsiders. It is only when they realise that the opposition know that the ruling party is giving away a few gravy train seats to entice the opposition, these are not subject to rigging and the opposition find the bait irresistible.
The evidence uncovered by Team Pachedu that Zanu PF is rigging these elections has not affected Chamisa and company’s decision to participated, of course they knew about the rigging and did not care. They are hell bent on participating in these elections, they are after the few bait seats Zanu PF is giving away!
Ground checks have confirmed that only 5 people stay at Stand 1981, 1st Crescent, Glenview 1, and NOT the 33 people/ghosts who are listed on the voters roll. The house belongs to Misheck Chisvo, a ZANU-PF primary election candidate for Glenview South
ReplyDeleteWell done, Team Pachedu! What is disappointing is these revelations have no effect whatsoever on the opposition, they are participating in these flawed elections regardless. Chamisa and company have always known that Zanu PF is rigging these elections and have also known that Zanu PF was giving away a few gravy train seats to entice the opposition to participate regardless of the rigging. It is this bait the opposition are after.
As long as the opposition participate in these flawed elections and giving Zanu PF legitimacy, Zimbabwe will never implement any reforms and never hold free and fair elections. It is the ordinary Zimbabwean themselves who must now wake up to the political reality that Chamisa and company sold out on reforms and free elections not only during the GNU but are doing so now!
