Zanu PF is not covid-19 testing malaria dead for same reasons China silenced Dr Li Wenliang P Guramatunhu

Last week government announced that it was going to increase the number of covid-19 tests from 40 or so per day to 1 000 per day. This was a welcome move. “Long overdue!” many people rightly said because without testing and thus knowing how the virus was spreading in the country, we would never stop it spreading.

Two on the top of the list of criteria on who must be testing were “people with influenza like symptoms and all patients with fever symptoms”, Nick Mangwana announced. Now it seems government is going back on this undertaking! Government is not testing for covid-19 they many people who have reportedly died from malaria.

"This matter came up for discussion on Monday and while it was regrettable that Zimbabwe continues to lose life to Malaria, the statistics of infections and deaths are in fact consistent with trends in recent years,” said President Emmerson Mnangagwa's spokesperson, George Charamba.

"What this says is that reports must be very careful not to confuse Coronavirus with malaria, merely because symptoms are largely similar.

"Secondly, while the worldwide hype on Coronavirus is warranted, this should not detract from the traditional killers of our people, namely malaria, Aids and cancers, which must continue to receive greater attention.”

Charamba readily acknowledged that the symptoms of these malaria deaths are largely similar to those of corona virus patients, which is the criteria announced by his colleague Nick Mnangagwa.

Secondly, it is a well-known fact that the overwhelming majority of people who have died of corona virus also had other underlying health problems such as HIVAIDS, cancer and/or had compromised immunity because of their advanced age or some other reason. It is logical to add malaria as just of “other underlying health condition” putting those with malaria at increase risk of death if they contracted covid-19.

This claim that there is a serious malaria outbreak in the country when the same government has been attributing the food shortage in the country to drought does not make sense. There cannot be malaria outbreak when there is a drought!

So, whilst in the past many people would get malaria and would recover. However, if they should have malaria and corona virus infection too, it is a death warrant!

Since corona virus is a very contagious disease it is important that all covid-19 patients are tested and confirmed a.s.a.p. and from there on they must be treated as covid-19 patients whether or not they have malaria or any other underlying disease. The failure to do so will only help spread the virus because, in their ignorance, people will fail to take the necessary anti corona virus precautions.

This Zanu PF and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) have one big thing in common – they both have no democratic mandate to govern and hence the reason they are very secretive. They would rather deny, falsify and/or conceal the truth; even if they know there is a heavy price to be paid for doing so: just to hide their weaknesses and failures. For all their posturing as great leaders, tough as an old boot; they are ultra-sensitive to criticism especially when the criticism is exposes them for the corrupt, incompetent and feeble minded they are.

CCP did not want the world to know about corona virus. Indeed, the party even recommended that Dr Li Wenliang, the Wuhan doctor who first diagnosed the virus and raised the alarm, must be reprimanded. Even after acknowledging the corona virus outbreak, China has continued to be very secretive about how many people were infected, how many died, etc.

There is no denying that by failing to be open, truthful and transparent China has contributed to the spread of the corona virus across the globe. So far, there have been over 2.6 million confirmed cases of covid-19 and nearly 200 000 have died. The pandemic is yet to reach its peak in Africa and many other developing countries whose health service will be overwhelmed and are poorly resourced to contain the outbreak. The number infected and dead will increase five to tenfold!

The economic disruption caused by the corona virus pandemic will result in a 10% to 30% contraction of the economy in the industrialised nations causing a depression to last 10 years or so. The contraction will be even worse in poor countries and last even longer.

WFP has predicted that up 30 million people will soon be facing starvation!

Zanu PF has handled the corona virus threat with its characteristic blundering incompetence. The regime allowed the late Zororo Makamba, for example, to roam and mix with the rest even after the officials at the Airport had noticed he had the corona virus symptoms. Now the party is determined to falsify the spread of the virus and the suffering and deaths it is causing.

Zanu PF is loathed to test for covid-19 all those are sick or have died of malaria and other diseases because the party does not want the true number of corona virus confirmed cases and deaths to be known. The true cost of this deceit is that even more people are going to infected and many more will die because, had they known the true corona virus status of those around them, they would have been more cautious!

The world is paying dearly for CCP’s failure to tell the truth about corona virus to conceal its incompetence. Likewise, Zimbabweans are paying dearly for Zanu PF’s refusal to reveal the truth on how widespread corona virus is for the same reason – to conceal its blundering incompetence.

  1. The statement says there is a 49-year-old man from Harare who tested positive and is now in isolation.

"Case #26 reported yesterday is a 49-year-old male resident of Harare who recently returned from the United Kingdom. He is symptomatic, with mild-moderate disease and is receiving medical management under mandatory isolation," reads the statement.

The Ministry said they were also monitoring another asymptomatic patient.

"Case #28 also reported yesterday is a 25-year-old male resident of Harare who recently returned from the United Kingdom. He is asymptomatic with mild disease and is recovering under mandatory isolation," read the statement

Panic spread among 25 Zimbabweans in mandatory quarantine at Belvedere Teachers' College after the health ministry announced on Wednesday night that two members of the group had tested positive for the coronavirus - before the results were communicated to the detainees.

By 9AM on Thursday, health officials had still not given the group their results from samples collected on Monday shortly after their arrival onboard a special Ethiopian Airlines flight.

"We are just reading on Twitter and online that our results are out and two of us have tested positive. As I speak right now, we still have not been told what our individual results are. The government is causing unnecessary anxiety on so simple a matter like this," a member of the group told ZimLive by phone on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the detainees said they were shocked on Wednesday night when they saw social welfare minister Paul Mavima on ZBC news being shown rooms at the college with better beds and running water.

"Instead of assessing rooms where the returnees live, they went to a hostel where none of us has access and presented the rooms there as the ones we have been saying are uninhabitable," one of the detainees said.

"Our assumption is that the authorities cajoled the administration here to prepare some rooms for a public relations stunt. It's Thursday today and I can tell the nation that we still don't have running water. There is nothing we would like more than shifting to the rooms we saw on ZBC."

Why is the government saying case #26 and 28 are “recovering under mandatory isolation” when the individuals are part of the 65 returnees from UK and none of them have been told the test results and the two corona virus positive are not been isolated!

The officials have known the test results since Tuesday evening and have not done anything to remove the two gentlemen from the rest and yet they know the quarantine living conditions are so bad it is no exaggeration to call Belvedere Teachers’ College a covid-19 hotspot!
If the 65 returnees stay for the full 21 days it will be no surprise if 10 plus test positive! What crimes have these people committed that they should be condemned to this!

  2. South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa has again called for the economic bans against Zimbabwe and Sudan to be lifted as the continent grapples with Covid-19 and its economic impact.

The US implemented sanctions against Sudan after accusing the country of harbouring terrorists, which the Sudanese government has denied. The US also extended sanctions against Zimbabwe during former president Barack Obama's term due to the country's political instability.
Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown was caused by 40 years of gross mismanagement and rampant corruption and not by the sanctions imposed by the west. The people of Zimbabwe have failed to remove the corrupt and incompetent Zanu PF dictatorship from office these last 4 decades because the party rigged elections.
As a black Zimbabwean who has been fighting for free, fair and credible elections it is most annoying, to say the least, that anyone much less someone like President Ramaphosa should have judged the July 2018 elections as having gone “well”! That he should pretend the sanctions are the cause of the country’s economic meltdown and not corruption.
The people of Zimbabwe are fighting a corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship and will welcome all the help we can get in ending the dictatorship. President Ramaphosa is free to help us or stay out of it. What we are not going to accept is him abusing his position to insult us with all this nonsense that sanctions are our problem!
President Ramaphosa, Sir, if you have nothing to say about Zimbabwe, then shut the fcuk up!

  3. The Minister of Youth Kirsty Coventry has announced that her Ministry will be availing a relief fund to assist the youths as they pass through the trying times of the deadly novel Coronavirus

The best gift the people of Zimbabwe want right now is a competent and accountable government. But that is the one thing Minister Coventry cannot give them since she is one of the many who accepted her ministerial appointment knowing fully well it was to prop up a vote rigging and illegitimate regime.

Mugabe and now Mnangagwa has never had any problem finding Zimbabweans; blacks, white and whatever; to spruce up the regime’s rotten image as a corrupt, incompetent, vote rigging and murderous dictatorship. Zimbabwe has more than its fair share of sell-outs.

It has been said Jesus Christ would be very lucky to find even one outstanding man in Zimbabwe worthy of being an honourable disciple but will find plenty to fill the shoes of Judas Iscariot!

  4. Sakunda, a company owned by controversial businessman Kuda Tagwirei, made a donation of goods worth US$ 2.6 million to the government of Zimbabwe on Thursday.

The donation is a shot in the arm to the government to assist in its fight again the novel coronavirus.

    Find the full list below:

    1: Emergency Ventilators 15
    2: Portable Ventilators 40
    3: Rapid Test Kits 35 000

In a country where so many companies have been forced to close, Kuda Tagwirei has not just survived he has thrived. It is either he is an exceptionally talented man or he is one of the country’s corrupt ruling elite. They are notorious for giving with one hand, making a big song and dance about it, whilst taking away even more with the other hand!

Zimbabwe’s filth rich ruling elite have so much economic muscle it is very hard to compete with them on the political front because they have the money to bribe all the officials and their staff – God knows there are so many corrupt officials out there. The ruling elite have so much wealth and losing power and the wealth is simply unthinkable!

  5. President Emmerson Mnangagwa early last month ordered a premature shutdown of schools and universities as a precautionary measure after the country recorded its first COVID-19 death.

However, Mangwana said schools may not re-open soon. He predicted that schools would likely re-open in August and run until Christmas time.

It is correct, Mnangagwa did indeed impose the nationwide prematurely but having done so the reality the country is now locked in the lockdown. The number of corona virus cases are increasing by leaps and bounds, proof the virus has spread far and wide and is spreading fast.

If just one student in a school has the virus it is a given the student will spread the virus to others because the hygienic condition and physical distancing necessary to stop the spread of the virus are impossible to enforce at school. Schools will just be turned into corona virus hotspots the same way government’s quarantine centres for Zimbabweans returning from outside are now corona virus hotspots.

Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF regime are corrupt and incompetent; we have known this for the last 40 years but failed to remove the regime from power because the thugs rigged the elections. The nation has paid dearly for its folly of allowing Zanu PF to stay in power these 4 decades and allow gross mismanagement and rampant corruption to grow and spread and destroyed the nation’s economy.

However, the price of having a corrupt and incompetent government has now soared into the stratosphere with the corona virus outbreak. There is no doubt that Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF government’s blundering incompetence is making the corona virus spread faster and to every corner of the land. Government is making the bad and tragic situation even worse!

The only way out of this mess is for Mnangagwa et al to step down so the country can appoint a competent interim government to see the nation through the nightmare corona virus crisis and prepare the nation for free, fair and credible elections.

Mnangagwa and company rigged the July 2018 elections, the regime is illegitimate and has no democratic mandate to govern, never had. Sending the children back to school will not be the first costly blunder by the regime nor will it be the last! And it is insane and suicidal to let the regime remain in power one more day!

  6. If there is one thing we can be 100% certain of it is that Zanu PF will never tell the truth about the spread of corona virus. The regime is corrupt and incompetent and knows that the only way it can ever get away with its blundering competence is denying the people information in the first place. Second, rig elections to make sure it is not democratically accountable to the people.

The regime is not testing the many people suffering and dying of malaria under the pretext that it is malaria and not covid-19; as if one suffering from malaria can never ever contract covid-19 as well!

The people of Zimbabwe must wake-up to the reality that Zanu PF’s blundering incompetence is causing unnecessary covid-19 suffering and deaths. If they do not wake-up then the numbers of easily avoidable suffering and deaths will continue to increase.

If there was ever a time when this nation can ill afford to have a corrupt, incompetent and illegitimate government it is now.

  7. The health staff said they have not received any allowances since the beginning of the outbreak. Medics from the army have been called in at Wilkins Infectious Diseases Hospital in Harare to replace the nurses who refused to attend to patients until their issues have been addressed.

This week, the nurses wrote to the City of Harare's director of health Services, Prosper Chonzi, stating they were disappointed that they were being expected to work in a highly infectious environment without any monetary incentives. The nurses are only being paid monthly salaries, ranging between ZW$1 000 and ZW$2 000, which they say are not enough to sustain them.

The Zimbabwe Independent has established that several nurses at the infectious diseases hospital are now eyeing better opportunities, especially at the private Covid-19 facilities that are being established in the capital.

More significantly the health workers will receive better pay and PPE at the private hospitals. The ruling elite are now equipping and staffing the private hospitals with a sense of urgency and purpose, now they know most of them will not be able to seek health care service outside Zimbabwe.

Some people have boasted that the corona virus has forced the chefs to stay at home and thus made them equal to everyone else. This could not be any further from the truth, we can be certain that the billions of dollars of donated cash kind to help the country fight corona virus is all being funnelled to the private hospitals for the chefs.

There is critical shortage of PPE in the world and Zimbabwe is no exception and yet we all saw VP Constantino Chiwenga kitted up in the most exclusive surgical PPE when all he was doing is visiting a rural hospital. The hospital staff and everyone else had a face mask and nothing else. No doubt Chiwenga has commandeered a hundred plus of these space-suit PPE, he has a hundred plus tests kits, two or three ventilators, etc., etc. and yet those on the frontline fighting the virus have nothing!

  8. According to Newzroom Africa, Gauteng Premier David Makhura confirmed that 44 government officials have tested positive for #COVID-19 in Gauteng.

SA imposed the lockdown too early without careful planning and now it is clear the corona virus is spreading the lockdown had little effect if at all. Still easing the lockdown when the corona virus numbers are growing exponentially is the most foolish thing the government can do now.

The corona virus pandemic has exposed the folly of having mediocre or worse national government because with each foolish blunder by the government the numbers of corona virus cases have increased, with it the number to suffering and die of the virus!

President Cyril Ramaphosa may not be corrupt but, by God, the man is breathtakingly incompetent. SA is paying dearly for, having a mediocre leader at a time like this.

In Zimbabwe Mnangagwa is not only breathtakingly incompetent, he is corrupt too and, to crown it all, he is illegitimate too. He blatantly rigged the July 2018 elections, he has no mandate to govern.

At least Ramaphosa has the people’s mandate and they can remove him from office. The case for removing Mnangagwa has never been stronger and the need more urgent and yet the chance of that happening is just as remote as ever.

Zimbabweans have never taking the duty of electing a competent government with the seriousness the matter demanded. Even when the nation had the golden opportunities to end the Zanu PF dictatorship, notable during the 2008 to 2013 GNU, the nation has wasted them all.

Nations deserve the government they get. We certainly deserve this Zanu PF dictatorship complete with its entourage of corrupt, incompetent and utterly useless opposition parties. We deserve to suffer and die, the consequence of having a corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical dictatorship for 40 years. The suffering and dying has just gone up to a new level and we have a simple choice of demanding competent government or pay the devil’s due!
