@ Province will have 10 plus covid-19 centres - another Wilkins gimmick , overwhelmed long before flood N Garikai

Government of Zimbabwe continues to establish isolation centres to house COVID-19 patients across the country. So far government has named 10 and 23 such isolation centres in Masvingo and Manicaland Provinces.
Here we go again, this is just another blunder by this incompetent Zanu PF government. There are many questions for which there are no answers – proof this is just another ill-advised move.
How are the ordinary people to know whether the patient has covid-19 and not some other disease? What is almost certain to happen here is people will take the sick to the nearest hospital and clinic including those that are not listed as covid-19 centres. The covid-19 patient will queue for hours together with other patients until they are finally attended to; by then they would have infected a few others.
Are the health workers at the hospitals and clinics, not designated covid-19  centres, have the covid-19 test kits and PPE to deal with covid-19 patients?
How many fully kitted ICU for covid-19 patients are available at each of these covid-19 hospitals and clinics? The last thing people want is to track 40 km or more to the hospital or clinic only to be told they are not admitting any more patients!
It is no secret that Zimbabwe’s health care service has all but collapsed after 40 years of neglect.
Even the country’s referral hospitals like Parerenyatwa and Mpilo Hospitals are in a very advance state of rot and decay with poorly paid doctors and nurses, no equipment, no medicine, etc. Parerenyatwa Hospital has often cancel even routine operations because the hospital did not have something as basic as painkillers. Indeed, the hospital has gone for days without running water!
If the country’s referral hospitals are in a sorry state, the provincial and district hospitals are in much, much worse state. Most of the covid-19 designated hospitals and clinic will still have no clean running water and whatever allocation of medicine, PPE, etc. they have allocated for the purpose will run out after the first 100 patient-days. At the peak of the pandemic these hospitals and clinics will sending away 100s of very sick covid-19 patients every day!
What is annoying here is that Zimbabwe’s health care service is in this sorry state not because the country is poor. God no! The money that should have been invested in our health care services was cream off to build sprawling palatial mansions such as the Mugabe’s Blue Roof, to prop up the chefs’ corrupt and wasteful business empires, to bankroll the chefs’ lavish lifestyles, etc.
The chefs did not mind that the country’s health care services was in a sorry state because they did not use it. In 2012 alone Mugabe made 8 trips to Singapore for an eye check-up each trip costed US$3 million, according to Tendai Biti who was the Minister of Finance at the time and paid the bills.
With US$ 24 million, the country could have built, equip and staff a five-star eye centre that would still be there to this day!
President Mnangagwa boasted of Zimbabwe’s “preparedness” to deal with corona virus and names Wilkins Hospital as the country’s first covid-19 designated hospital. The nation was shocked that the hospital only had a bed and a bucket toilet to offer Zororo Makamba, its first covid-19 patient! The hospital did not even have running water!
Zimbabwe is not prepared to deal with the covid-19 pandemic, that is a fact. The government has announce 23 or so designated covid-19 centres in each of the country’s 8 rural provinces; this is just a gimmick these centres will be completely overwhelmed after receiving the first 10 patients or so, long before the flood of 100s of patients per day!
There are a lot of useful things government should be doing to mitigate the spread of covid-19 such as equipping and deploying health care workers who will visit the sick in their homes and decide who is a covid-19 suspend, what help they need and where to get it. It is utterly pointless giving the people false hope that they will get covid-19 hospital attention when there will be no such help.
The corona virus has brought into sharp focus Zimbabwe’s need for a competent government. This corrupt, incompetent and vote rigging Zanu PF regime’s blunders and gimmicks have the nation running around like headless chickens making the covid-19 pandemic worse and worse.
The question to be asked is; what will it take, in lost treasure, human suffering and deaths, to finally force Zimbabweans to open their eyes to the need for good governance?

  1. “Patient Being Treated For Malaria At Parirenyatwa Tests Positive For Coronavirus”
Well! Well! There are some people who have argued that all malaria cases must be tested for corona virus too and the regime has stubbornly refused to do so. Now we see why!
Zanu PF is being naïve to think it can down-play the seriousness of the corona virus and get away with it. Corona virus cannot be cheated in the same way Zanu PF cheated Nelson Chamisa and his MDC friends.
By failing to aggressively test, track, isolate and treat corona virus patients Zanu PF has allowed the virus to spread far and wide. As we move into the cold weeks ahead the virus will be more contagious and the numbers of cases will start to soar!
By treating this malaria patient as free of covid-19 until now; how many other people has the patient infected?
The country has 50 000 covod-19 test kits. Over a week ago the nation was assured the regime was ramping up tests from the 40 or so a day to 1 000 a day. This has not happened again and again the regime has failed to carry out even 500 tests a day!
We are in serious trouble made worse by the regime’s blundering incompetence!

  2. WHO has a lot to answer for in Africa. It is no secret that WHO and other UN donations in countries like Zimbabwe have ended up being used in the five-star hospitals for the ruling elite whilst the poor majority have nothing!

It is nonsense that VP Chiwenga should be visiting hospitals kitted in the top range PPE whilst those who are dealing with corona virus cases do not even have the cheap face mask and plastic gloves and no clean running water!

Many people have criticised WHO for failing the world by letting China hide the data on the spread and seriousness of covid-19. At least China did something to stamp out the virus. In Zimbabwe Zanu PF is falsifying the spread and seriousness of covid-19 and is doing nothing to contain the virus. The WHO officials in the country are aware of this and have said nothing and done nothing!

The corona virus suffering and deaths in Zimbabwe is going to be a lot worse than it should have been if the country had a competent and accountable government. The one international body that has prop up this Zanu PF regime is the UN!

  3. Even in the best of times, Zimbabwe’s health system suffers from shortages of medicine and basic equipment. The government has been raising donations of protective clothing, but frontline health workers say supplies are still inadequate.

One has to ask why Zimbabwe had been so slow in testing and tracing corona virus patients and in buying PPE for all frontline workers. It is shocking that VP Chiwenga was visiting hospitals kitted in the top range PPE and yet those working with corona virus patients have no PPE.

The corona virus centres Zanu PF says it has set up in all the Provinces will all be overwhelmed when get 20 or so patients!

  4. PRICES of basic commodities within local supermarkets continue to increase in defiance of a government, retailers moratorium for a return to prices that were being charged before the country went on a lockdown against the spread of Covid-19 late last month.

Forced price controls will only lead to shortage and/or soaring black market prices. We have been down this road and this corrupt and incompetent regime is dragging us down the same road again.

Zimbabweans must wake-up to the reality that this Zanu PF regime is corrupt and incompetent and will blunder from pillar to post. At times like this when there is a serious crisis having a blundering government is the worst curse one can ever imagine because the regime will only make matters even worse!

  5. A Coronavirus time bomb is expected to erupt in the Mashonaland West rural province of Zimbabwe after villagers have tested positive of the virus.

Senior journalist Brezh Malaba posted on his Twitter account that the lives of villagers have been disrupted.

Said Malaba, "Covid-19 arrives in rural Zimbabwe. The invisible enemy has disrupted life in the idyllic villages of Mhondoro-Mubaira. Response teams were deployed on Sunday and again 2day. It's a public health emergency, a huge task. More than 300 villagers had to be tested without delay.
"The rural setting is affected by several factors: a relatively high number of elderly folk; lack of health facilities; illiteracy; water and sanitation challenges. More importantly, the same sense of communal amity which unites villagers can suddenly become their greatest weakness."

Malaba added that the villagers are exposed to the deadly virus after the nurses who tested positive at the local clinic continued going to work.

"Samples have been collected in these 2 days and the results are expected in 3 days. But there are more challenges ahead: nobody is explaining to me what will be done about those 2 clinics and Chegutu Hospital where the part-time nurse who tested positive continued reporting for duty.
We have all seen how Zanu PF has blundered from pillar to post these last 40 years, dragging the nation deeper and deeper into this hell-on-earth we now find ourselves in. If anyone of us thought the regime will suddenly become competent and stop blundering because of the corona virus threat, all such illusions should have evaporated as the truth behind the regime’s handling of the late Zororo Makamba emerged.
Zororo Makamba was allowed to mix freely when he should have been send into isolation because he used his political influence. When he was seriously sick he was admitted into Wilkins Hospital and all he got was a bed and a bucket toilet. Contrary to the regime’s repeated corona virus preparedness, the hospital did not have any ventilator, monitor, medicine, PPE for health workers, etc. The hospital did not even have clean running water!
The corona virus is going to present the greatest social, economic and political challenge of our time and the last thing we want is a corrupt and incompetent government turning a tragic situation a catastrophe of Biblical proportion by its blundering at every turn! The is a heavy price in lost treasure, human suffering and deaths to be paid for everyday Mnangagwa and his illegitimate regime stay in power!

  6. MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa says MP Killer Zivhu should stop dreaming and comparing his Zanu-PF party to the opposition he claims lost the 2018 vote through poll theft.

This comes after the controversial legislator weekend urged Zimbabweans to join Zanu-PF, arguing the opposition no longer existed.

But Chamisa told NewZimbabwe.com Monday there was no need to compare MDC with Zanu-PF, a party he said commanded no following among locals.

"Are you really serious about this question! Who is this Killer Zivhu! You cannot compare a mountain to an anthill. Is it possible?" Chamisa said.
The people of Zimbabwe are sick to their back teeth of this MDC nonsense! Chamisa himself said “MDC had stringent measures to stop Zanu PF rigging the July 2018 elections!” And yet has been wittering ever since those elections that Zanu PF rigged the elections. But in typical fashion of all dimwits would not acknowledged he lied about MDC having stringent measures to stop the rigging.
MDC is preparing to contest the 2023 elections although not even one reform has been implemented. Not one!
The truth is MDC had their golden opportunity to implement the democratic reforms during the 2008 to 2013 GNU and they failed to get even one reform implemented because they sold-out. Zanu PF were smart enough to know that MDC will participate in the elections regardless how flawed and illegal the process happened to be as long as Zanu PF dangled a few gravy-train seats in the eyes of MDC!
No doubt Chamisa will be telling the nation MDC has devised fool-proof measures to stop Zanu PF rigging the 2023 elections. And, no doubt, after Zanu PF rigs those elections, Chamisa will cry foul!
If the people of Zimbabwe are serious about ending this corrupt’ incompetent and tyrannical Zanu PF rule then they must accept that MDC leaders are never going to implement the necessary reforms for free, fair and credible elections. Never! They abandoned all interest in reforms during the 2008 GNU. They are now content with the few gravy-train seats Zanu PF is offering as bait.
Chamisa is just string the naïve and gullible Zimbabweans into believe MDC will win rigged elections. If these Zimbabweans were not so naïve and gullible then they should ask why the mountain MDC has been cheated by anthill Zanu PF again and again for the last 20 years! What is the point of being the mountain if you will be outwitted by an anthill!

  7. At the same time, Douglas Mwonzora has warned that continued resistance from Chamisa to cooperate with the Khupe faction could lead them to lay criminal charges against him for not handing over financial statements from the previous administration.

Mwonzora said they are redressing some of the issues particularly to do with human resources.

Secretary-General Charles Hwende confirmed that the party only owes employees' salaries for March.
The MDC has failed to deliver even one meaningful democratic change in its 20 year history. It was pretty useless before the High Court ruling condemning Chamisa’s seizure of the party’s leadership but it is even worse now! It is going to take forever for the party to resolve this squabble.
The tragedy is Zimbabwe is going through hell given the challenges of corona virus and add on to it the blundering incompetence of Zanu PF!
