"What can we do to help?" asked new UK Ambassador - help end vote rigging curse N Garikai

"The UK wants to see Zimbabwe succeed. I'd like to underline the UK's willingness to do all it can to help Zimbabwe along the path to a brighter and more prosperous future for all its citizens, based on genuine political and economic reforms and respect for human rights,” said Britain’s new Ambassador to Zimbabwe Melanie Robinson.

"I'm looking forward to meeting Zimbabweans from all walks of life very soon to hear what they have to say about the Zimbabwe they would like to see and how the UK and the rest of the international community can best help Zimbabwe fulfil its great potential.”

Ambassador, Zimbabwe is in this political and economic mess because for country has been stuck with a corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical regime that has rigged elections to stay in power against the democratic wishes of the people. The greatest gift UK and the international community can give the people of Zimbabwe right now is help the nation implement the democratic reforms necessary for free, fair and credible elections.

Zimbabwe is well and truly stuck; help us break this de facto one-party state!

After 38 years of corrupt and tyrannical rule, what the people of Zimbabwe want above all else is help in ending the curse of rigging elections. And what better way to achieve this than helping pressure Zanu PF to step down give the party rigged the recent elections and has no legal mandate to govern.

The situation in Zimbabwe is so bad, the country is in real danger of social and/or political instability if nothing is done quickly to give people hope in the future. Zanu PF must be asked to step down a.s.a.p. Whatever happens, Zanu PF must not be allowed to remain in office till the 2023 election; the party will rig those elections just as readily as it has rigged past elections.

  1. There is no doubt that the root cause of all Zimbabwe's economic and political problems is the country's failure to remove Zanu PF from office even when it was clear as day Zanu PF were corrupt and incompetent. 38 years of gross mismanagement, rampant corruption and lawlessness has taken a heavy toll on the country's economy.

Zimbabwe is now the poorest nation in Africa with 75% of the population now living on US$1.00 or less a day. The country has also some of the richest individuals in the world, they are islands in the growing ocean of poverty. Most of the filthy rich have made their fortune from looting.

In 2016, the then President Robert Mugabe admitted the country "was swindled out of $15 billion of diamond revenue" in a three or four year period. This is a staggering fortune for any nation but even more so for Zimbabwe with its GDP of $10 billion. He never arrested even one of the diamond swindlers during his time. Mnangagwa took over a year ago on the promise of "zero tolerance to corruption" and yet he too has yet to arrest one swindler.

What is clear is that the wholesale looting has continued. Zanu PF leaders are filthy rich from the looting and the party has used some of the looted fortune to bankroll its vote buying and vote rigging schemes. And it is this blatant vote rigging that has kept Zanu PF in power against the democratic wishes of the people.

Former UK Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Ms Catriona Laing's parting words to Zanu PF leaders last September were the July 2018 "election playing field was not level". There is no question that Zanu PF rigged the recent elections.

Many ordinary Zimbabweans now accept that the greatest mistake the nation has ever made was to reward Zanu PF with power for rigging elections. It is that folly that landed us into this mess. These people now realise the only way to get out of the mess is by standing up to the Zanu PF leaders and demand that they step down following the rigged recent elections.

There is much to be feared in Zanu PF unleashing its thugs to punish those demanding the regime steps down but there is worse to be feared with the worsening economic meltdown if nothing is done to end the dictatorship.
