"Zimbabwe is going through a democratic process," says Zanu PF apologist - via yet another rigged election W Mukori

“Shiri imweneimwe inemaririro ayo!” Every bird species has its own characteristic song! This is certainly true of Zanu PF propagandists and apologists! Some of the notable characteristic notes in the Zanu PF apologists is the lies, confusions and contradictions.

“There are two sides to Zimbabwe's elections. There is a side that wants to portray the country as peaceful and going through a democratic process in which the will of the people will prevail and be respected,” wrote the Zanu PF representative in UK, Nick Mangwana, in Bulawayo 24.

Here is a man who has never ever portrayed Zimbabwe as anything else other than a health and functioning democracy, he has staunchly maintained that Zanu PF has held free, fair and credible elections. So, if Zimbabwe was a democratic country all these last 37 years with Mugabe as President why should the country be “going through a democratic process” now?

Is this a tacit admission, Mr Mangwana, that you and your follow apologists and propagandists have been lying denying that Zimbabwe was a pariah state ruled by thugs?

If Zanu PF was a dictatorship all along what is there to stop you lying now about the party “going through a democratic process” when in fact it is not? Indeed, the evidence on the ground points to exactly that!

What better way to prove that the November coup was the Damascene moment that marked Zimbabwe transition from a pariah state to a democratic country than for President Mnangagwa to honour his promise to hold free, fair and credible elections. He has done no such thing!

He has stubbornly refused to implement even one of the raft of democratic reforms agreed at the onset of the 2008 GNU; the prerequisite for holding free and fair elections.

People will be voting in three weeks’ time and yet there is no free public media. ZEC has failed to register 1.4 million voters or 25% of the targeted 7 million and has failed to produce a clean and verified voters’ roll, throwing the door wide open to NIKUV inspired vote rigging, because the voter registration was started very, very late. The list of irregularities goes on and on. It is clear Zanu PF is blatantly rigging these elections. Zanu PF is still a party of corrupt, incompetent and vote rigging thugs – nothing has changed!

“They have done a lot and beyond paint the country as stable and democratic. They have substantially stabilised the country and sucked in all forms of provocation from the other side. The dividend they want is foreign direct investment, international goodwill and acceptance of the country fully into the international fold and community of nations,” continued Nick.

At the peak of President Mnangagwa’s “Zimbabwe is open for business!” world tour; Zanu PF apologists went waxing with excitement. The nation was told of the flood of investors taking advantage of the business opportunities in Zimbabwe. By April, some apologists were claiming that Zimbabwe had signed $20 billion worth of new investment, which is more than what the whole of SADC region got last year.

It is interesting to note that Mangwana has climbed down and is, once again tacitly, acknowledging there was no flood of investors. If they come, it will be a “dividend”!

For the umpteenth time Nick, there will be no foreign investors coming to Zimbabwe because Zimbabwe is still a pariah state ruled by vote rigging thugs. Investors do not do business with thugs!

The best thing that can happen now is for these flawed and illegal elections to be declared null and void, so the country can go back to the reforms agreed at the onset of the 2008 GNU and finally implement the reforms. If President Mnangagwa cannot honour his promise to hold free, fair and credible elections then he and his junta must step aside so the nation can appoint an interim administration that will implement the reforms and hold free and fair elections.

Zimbabwe is “going through a democratic process!” Some process; given that the last 38 years the country has been sinking deeper and deeper into this hell-on-earth Zanu PF dragged us into. President Mnangagwa and his junta will never ever admit they have failed just as they will never ever hold free and fair elections and subject themselves to democratic will of the people.

The people of Zimbabwe are sick to the back teeth of Zanu PF apologist like you Nick’s lies and damned lies!

  1. A healthy and functional democracy is not possible unless there is a wide-awake electorate with the courage and foresight to hold those in power to account. The great majority of our people have not been exactly wide-awake, but this would not have mattered if the few, mostly the intelligentsia had not deserted their post. Mugabe has co-opted into his dictatorship be they as judges, editors, propagandists, apologies, etc. to ensure the dictatorial tendencies of his regime were never criticised.

The buzz word amount the intelligentsia was "If you cannot beat them, join them!" Mugabe paid and paid well those who did join him.

Nick Mangwana is a typical sell-out intellectual. He is criticising Mugabe as if he has done so all his life and praising ED to the high heavens for things he has not done whilst ignoring his serious failures. It is nonsense to deny that ED is anything other than Mugabe by another name. But it is to be expected of sell-out like Nick, he does not care about the true, justice, good governance, etc. All he cares about is money and will praise to the high heavens an incompetent, corrupt and vote rigging thug because he is paid and paid well to do so.

During the slave trade, it was not the white man who hunted down the black Africans. It was the fellow blacks who hunted down their own kith and kin and sold them as slaves to the slave traders for fist of beads and a piece of calico cloth!

Slavery was abolished barely 150 years ago but the spirit of profiting from the misery of one's own kith and kin has survived and thrived in Zimbabwe these last 38 years under this Zanu PF dictatorship! The country's ruling elite and their acolytes have become filthy rich and powerful by treading roughshod over the freedoms, rights, hopes and dreams of the majority.
