"We are prepared to die for free elections," says Biti - means sell-out the nation for gravy train seat P Guramatunhu

Mr Tendai Biti you, like everyone else have the right to enjoy freedom of expression just remember that with every right comes a duty. Your right to freedom of expression does not include the right to distort historic facts much less to insult others. You did both yesterday when you addressed the MDC Alliance demonstrators.

"We are tired of being rigged but we are saying this cold season history will not repeat itself, on 11 March 2002 election ,the MDC led by Morgan Tsvangirai won by 84% but they stole it from us former South African president Thabo Mbeki sent a report which was announced by South African constitutional court that we won that election," said Biti.

"In 2008 election we won by 72%, l announced it before being  sent to Chikurubi prison and we went to courts but nothing came out , on 30 July 2013 the MDC won by 74% but ZANU stole that election."

Zanu PF would have never stolen the July 2013 elections if you and your follow MDC friends had implemented the raft of democratic reforms agreed at the onset of the 2008 GNU. When one is given the get-out-of-jail card; it is more pertinent to find out why one wasted that golden opportunity and not waste time discussing how thick the walls are, the razor fence, etc. If one did not have the intellect and motivation to walkout through the open door, he/she is not likely to tunnel through a 2 m thick concrete floor!

If MDC leaders had implemented the reforms Zimbabwe will not still be stuck in this hell-on-earth. They had five years of the GNU but failed to implement even one reform. Please tell us why?

I will tell you why, Mr Biti. You and your fellow banded mongoose MDC friends were bribed by Mugabe with the trappings of high office, ministerial limos, very generous salaries and allowances, a former white-owned farm for Welshman Ncube, a $4 million mansion for Tsvangirai, etc., etc. and you all kicked reforms out of the window.

SADC leaders wanted the 2013 elections postpone until the reforms were implemented. They warned you and the rest of banded mongooses MDC would lose, “the elections are done,” they said.

Mugabe dangled a few gravy train seats, juicy beetles, he knew the mongooses would find totally irresistible! Former MDC Senator and minister, David Coltart, is one of the few MDC leaders have ever admitted that it was greed that made MDC leaders disregard SADC leaders’ sound advice not to contest the flawed elections.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the (2013) elections,” explained Senator Coltart in his book.

“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”

MDC has failed to get even one reform to be implemented since the rigged July 2013 elections. Sadly, that has not deterred Biti and the rest of the banded mongooses from contesting this year’s elections. What any thinking Zimbabwean finds objectionable is that people like Tendai Biti should seek to portray their continued selfish act of blatant betrayal as a heroic act of selfless sacrifice.

"We are not going to allow the 30 July 2018 election to be stolen again that is why we are in the streets, we are prepared to die for this cause, we are prepared to be imprisoned for this cause, we are prepared to die ten times," shout Biti.

"This time around good people we are sending a message to Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa and ZANU PF that we are not going back we are prepared to die for this cause Zikomo kwambili, thank you very much!"

If you cared about the common cause of making sure the elections are free, fair and credible then why did you fail to implement even one reform in five years of the GNU?

Mr Tendai Biti, you and your fellow MDC banded mongoose are determined to contest these elections because you are after the few gravy train seats, the juicy beetle grubs, Zanu PF is offering as bait and you do not care that by participating you are undermining the demand for reforms and holding of free and fair elections! You are so, so desperate to get back on the gravy train, you are taking part in these elections even when you can see the elections are being rigged!

If it was just your own life that of your MDC friends on the line; then one would say "Go ahead, break a leg! Just clean up after you!" Sadly, you and your Zanu PF political games are caused untold human suffering and deaths to millions of ordinary Zimbabweans. Another rigged elections will drag this nation deeper and deeper into this economic and political hell-hole the nation now finds itself in.

These elections should not be going ahead with reforms. Whilst there is nothing that can be done to stop them now, our focus must now turn to making sure the process is declared null and void. The political charade must now be brought to an end by the implementing of the democratic reforms and holding of the country’s first free, fair and credible elections.

It is bad enough that MDC leaders have sold-out big time on reforms and continue to do so to this day. Please stop adding insult to ignominy by insinuating you are risking your own life for the common good when, as your track record shows, you will walk over povo’s hope and dreams and even broken bodies just to get back on the gravy train!

Please tell us whether MDC failed to implement the reforms, as Mukori is saying, or they did. Mukori has never disputed when MDC was launched, for example, so why is that impartant.

The trouble with simple minded people like you is you are locked into this foolish notion that MDC can do no wrong and all those who dare criticise MDC must be Zanu PF supporters, even when there is a mountain of evidence as is the case with Mukori saying otherwise.

MDC failed to implement even one democratic reform during the GNU and that is a historic fact!

Being in the trenches alone means nothing as one can be in the trenches shooting the enemy, in the trenches wasting ammunition, in the trenches as a double agent, etc. The people of Zimbabwe risked life and limb to elect MDC leaders so they can bring about democratic change. They have been in the trenches for nearly 20 years now, please tell me what democratic reforms have they managed to bring in all this time?

After 20 years of blundering from pillar to post it is absolutely vital that we take a hard look at what is going on. We went through the elections in 2013 after we were warned, simpletons amongst us who did not figure it out for themselves, that the elections will be rigged. It is insane that the nation is be dragged by the same idiot into yet another election still with no reforms in place. This is exactly what Mukori has been saying and that makes a lot of sense.

Mukori has provided the way forward, we must implement the reforms BEFORE holding elections.

If what Mukori is saying is "froth no beer" then address the points he has raised and tell why you say he is wrong. To argue that he is in an air condition office and not in the trenches not addressing the points he raised.
After 38 years of utterly useless political leader from both sides of the political divide, what Zimbabwe needs right now is some individuals with some working grey stuff between their ears. For decades the nation has had to put up with the Zanu PF dogma that only Zanu PF cadre can rule the country because they have liberation war credentials and now we are being asked to do the same for MDC leaders because “they have been in the trenches!” We must dismiss both with the contempt they both deserve.

Only the Zimbabwean people in a free, fair and credible elections have the say on who will govern this nation!

  3. In an urgent chamber application for joinder to an urgent chamber application filed by Ethel Mpezeni, a registered voter, the opposition political parties and the pro-democracy campaigners protested that they will be seriously prejudiced by the order sought by Mpezeni, who wants to bar ZEC from releasing a voters’ roll bearing voters’ photographs.
The fact still remains that if ZEC has released the voters' roll at least a month before nomination day as is demanded by law the verification would have been done and dusted by now. There are so many things wrong with this election it is impossible to see how they can be put right to make these elections free, fair and credible. The best foot forward now is to have these elections declared null and void!

  4. Professor Chan has failed to accept that Zanu PF rigs elections, it is hard to take him as a serious intellectual given what happen in Zimbabwe in 2008!

  5. Tendai Biti is a hypocrite!

How dare he has he is prepared to die for free, fair and credible elections when he did not remove Mugabe when all he risked to lose then was the opportunity to flatter the tyrant. Tendai Biti praised Mugabe to the high heavens, calling the tyrant the "unflappable father of the nation, fountain of wisdom" when he was supposed to be dismantling the dictatorship.

Biti and company do not care that Zanu PF is rigging these elections again as long as he got his gravy train seat back!

In 2013 he complained bitterly when he saw the Zanu PF youth bussed in voting in his constituency but the minute he realised that he had won the seat he endorsed the elections as having been free and fair.

The only reason people like Biti still have any political followers is very simple - Zimbabwe has the great misfortune of having some of the most naive and gullible electorate in the world. MDC supporters are braindead and that is not an insult, a boast, an exaggeration or whatever but just a plain fact. A healthy and functional democracy demands a wide-awake electorate will to hold leaders to account and not follow blindly, no questions asked!

"ED and junta have splashed money to reporters for them to write favourable articles about them. This is a very unfortunate development because it militates against the ethics of journalism. Even though ED and Bob are just the same when it comes to scotched earth tactics. People no longer want zanu even if newspapers and platforms write positively about them," you said.

I agree that Zanu PF has benefited from propaganda articles. Still, I would argue that by selling-out of reforms MDC have done our national cause to end the Zanu PF dictatorship more harm than any of the propaganda articles. Having a whole army of naïve and gullible followers such as the braindead MDC supporters has only made the bad situation even worse. MDC leaders are hunting with the hounds and running with the hare and the sooner these MDC followers wake up to that simple reality the sooner the nation can start the search for the quality leaders we need to help us get out of this "shit hole" as President Trump would call it!

  7. President Emmerson Mnangagwa has suspended Prosecutor General Ray Goba on allegations of incompetence.

Goba has been suspended pending an investigation into his suitability to continue holding the office.

He is facing accusations of failing to prosecute high profile corruption cases.

He will only be replaced with another equally incompetent appointee! If anyone expect any PG to charge people like Chiwenga, Mugabe and ED himself for being corrupt then they are naive!
