"MDC will win rigged elections hands down," insist Chamisa - come 30th wailing and gnashing of teeth N Garikai

"We will go to the people; we will go to the court of public opinion. Let the people decide. We are not joking. We insist, and what we used to do at university, we will this time do it 10 times. We don't want any nonsense, we want proper elections," thundered Chamisa.

"There is only one thing that wants to disturb our second independence. There are those that we gave a task and mandate to be a referee in the upcoming elections … they are the biggest national threat today, the challenge to our national security today, the biggest obstacle to a new Zimbabwe is Zec, but this time around, we will not allow Zec to steal our vote," said Welshman Ncube.

This is just nonsense, both Chamisa and Ncube were senior MDC leaders in the GNU, they had the golden opportunities to implement the democratic reforms that would have made ZEC independent and guaranteed free, fair and credible elections for all times!

"We are certainly forming the next government, in terms of opinion polls, we are also doing very well, there is no way Mnangagwa will defeat us, we are winning this election hands down. All the people I have met are saying this is the time for change and the change that is being talked about is not cosmetic but real," said Chamisa in the next breath.

But you have just been complaining that these are not “proper elections”. Are you saying that you are going to win rigged elections “hands down”?

By sunset on Monday 30 July 2018 there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth in the opposition camp as the scale of the Zanu PF victory start to sink in. “Zanu PF has stolen these elections!” Frankly the world will not even want to hear it because they have warned MDC 100 000 times and 100 000 times again that with no reforms in place Zanu PF will rig the elections hands down!

What Zimbabweans will be awaiting to hear is the international election observer teams’ reports on the elections. Every thinking Zimbabwean would want these elections declared null and void. How can an election lacking something as basic as a credible, clean and verified voters’ roll ever be judged free, fair and credible!!

By condemning these flawed and illegal election Zimbabwe will get the chance to revisit and, this time, implement all the raft of democratic reforms agreed at the onset of the 2008 GNU. We want a second bite at the cherry and, by God, we must make sure that we make this one count!

If you are going to compare ED with Dr Martin Luther King then at least be respectful of the truth and facts.

"ED's recent comments and interviews have given me hope that Zanu PF as turned a corner. He has said he will accept any result, and has invited the world to audit and observe the election. Every Facebook post, every tweet, every speech and every comment is focused on love. He calls for unity above all. Even during his daily election countdown, he did not say 'vote for me', he did not 'go negative' on the MDC. He called for unity, love and respect."

ED has NOT "invited the world to audit and observe the election"! The law says the regime must release a clean and verified voters' roll at least one month before nomination day which was 14 June. To this day, 5 days to voting day there is still no clean and verified voters' roll. How can the world audit something that is not there!!!!

ED promised to hold free, fair and credible elections but has stubbornly refused to implement even one democratic reform. How can these be free and fair elections when there is no credible voters' roll so people know who voted!

You can try all you want to portray ED as a democrat who respects the rule of law but the facts on the ground tell him for who he is; a corrupt, vote-rigging thugs who will not hesitate to stage a military coup to get power! Dr King will be turning in his grave to be compared to a ruthless murderer like ED!

  2. @ Dr Mavaza

"THE Zimbabwean economy has been in a coma for a long time and President Mnangagwa has cast a bright light on the country's fortunes as he puts the economy over politics since assuming the reins last November."

This is just wishful thinking! ED thought his "Zimbabwe is open for business!" mantra was going to open the floodgates of foreign investors. That has not happened because the investors were not convinced that Zimbabwe had cast off it pariah State status with the removal of Mugabe. By failing to keep his promise to hold free and fair elections President Mnangagwa has made it clear that Zimbabwe is indeed still a pariah state ruled by the same corrupt and vote-rigging thugs.

Dr Mavaza, investors do not do business with thugs. The "country's fortunes" will never improve as long as Zimbabwe remains a pariah state!

As for the young people voting for ED, they need not bother; he is guaranteed to win these elections hands down regardless what the people want. He is rigging these elections!

  3. The Southern African Development Community (SADC) observer mission will not endorse a bogus election in Zimbabwe.

SADC representatives led by Angola's secretary of state in the External Relations Ministry‚ Tete Antonio‚ said after meeting political parties in Harare at the weekend that they would not endorse a sham election as their mandate was to witness democratic processes.

Given that ED and his junta are rigging these elections, that piece of news must have left everyone in Chibuku House worried sick. It is bad enough that they regime is being made to look like fools by the western observers over its failure to release a clean verified voters' roll. Now with SADC talking of bogus elections will only mean Zanu PF will have no one to help it hide the rigged elections!

A clean bill from the Chinese will count for nothing since word is already out that the Chinese are helping Zanu PF rig the elections! Not that many people would have paid much attention anyway to what the Chinese said, what do they know when they do not even bother hold elections!

  4. Zanu PF has failed to release a clean and verified voters' roll, there is no way these elections can ever be judge free and fair.

SADC leaders told the late Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends not to go into the 2013 elections without reforms but the MDC would not listen. By declaring these elections null and void, the international community will be giving the people of Zimbabwe a way out of this mess by giving them another chance to finally implement the reforms!
