Bikita West by-election is proof ZimPF will not stop Zanu PF rigging 2018 elections. By W Mukori

"The president (Tsvangirai) said one swallow does not make a summer and Bikita West is the swallow. It was a farcical election that cannot be used to measure someone's popularity," Tsvangirai's spokesperson, Luke Tamborinyoka told the Daily News.

"Yes, there are some people who want to use it to undermine the coalition. However, we will not allow that because we have already decided to do a cow-horn formation on Zanu-PF."

The Bikita West by-elections confirmed what most people have been saying about Mai Mujuru and her Zim PF, that the she and her party are all bluff and no substance. Zim PF boosted that they will stop Zanu PF rigging elections because they know how the regime rigged elections. The Bikita West by-elections results showed ZimPF's presence had no effect!

The Bikita West by-election results confirms nothing has changed, it is the first swallow but of many to follow. We do not need to go through yet another election process in 2018 to know the result is yet another rigged election; the Bikita West by-election was the warning of what is certain to come!

We need to implement the democratic reforms now before holding the next elections if we are going to stop Zanu PF rigging the next elections. Tsvangirai and his friends have their heads buried in the sand, they will only believe Zanu PF can rig elections AFTER the elections are rigged.

Zimbabwe is in a serious economic and political mess, millions of our people now live in abject poverty and life expectancy has plummeted from 68 years when Zanu PF first came into power in 1980 to 34 years in 2004, the last time it was measure. Life expectancy has grown in most of the other countries in the region in the same period and countries like Angola and Mozambique had as much as 5 to 10 years better life expectancy than us.

Zimbabwe cannot afford another five years of Zanu PF corrupt and tyrannical rule and push the nation even deeper into poverty and hopelessness. MDC will once again admit, after the 2018 elections have been rigged, that Zanu PF stole the elections and the party’s “cow-horn formation against Zanu PF was useless. No doubt, they will renew their promise not to contest any elections until reforms are implemented, just as they did after the rigged 2013 elections. But what comfort will all the admission be to the millions unemployed to whom poverty now spells death who will have to endure another five years of this corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship!

The coalition between MDC and ZImPF is not the panacea to stop Zanu PF rigging the 2018 elections, implementing the reform is that cure. Taking part in the next elections with not even one reform in place is madness and we have seen this madness in 2013 and on many other occasions in the past.

It was the greatest physicist and intellectual, Albert Einstein who said “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

Zanu PF will rig the 2018 elections with or with the grand MDC-ZimPF coalition as long as there are no democratic reforms in place. After 37 years of rigged elections we KNOW Zanu PF has mastered the art vote rigging to perfection. We do not need to go through another meaningless election process to know that!

  1. "The Bikita by-election outcome has a bigger story. Unless there are tectonic shifts in opposition politics and their tomfoolery and kindergarten behaviour, with or without Mugabe, Zanu-PF will be in charge after 2018," said Ruhanya.

Why not a coalition to implement reforms and thus secure free and fair elections instead of one to contest flawed elections?

The people of Zimbabwe have been denied their freedom and basic human rights including the right to free, fair and credible elections. Tsvangirai is promising them that a grand coalition will deliver regime change because they will defeat Zanu PF even if the later rigged the vote. Tsvangirai promised them exactly the same thing - regime change in 2013 - under the same conditions - Zanu PF is allowed to rig the vote because not one reform was implemented. Well MDC failed to deliver regime change in 2013 and will do so again in 2018.

It is high time the people of Zimbabwe woke up to the reality that they have been short change for 37 years now on this one issue - the right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country. It is high time the people put their foot down and demand the implementation of the democratic reforms to secure free, fair and credible elections.

People must ask themselves why is Tsvangirai, Mujuru and all the other opposition so keen on forming a coalition to contest flawed elections but will not form a coalition to boycott the elections and sort this issue of free, fair and credible elections, an end to all the political violence, vote rigging, etc.?

Why are people like Joice Mujuru, who now insist they are putting people first in all they do determined to contest the 2018 elections "regardless of whether the reforms are implemented or not, even if the people continue to be systematically denied their vote, etc." If ZimPF were to win power would they not too resist democratic reforms because the system will now be working in their favour?

I am not asking the people of Zimbabwe to build a rocket to go to the moon,or start up a football league comparable to the Spanish La Liga; I am asking us all to make sure the next elections in Zimbabwe are free, fair and credible. To secure their basic human right to a meaningful say in the governance of country for not just this generation but for posterity. This right is the pre-requisite to economic recovery, peace and the right to life itself. Surely that is not too much to ask!

  2. Even if ZimPF people were to come up with their own gangs to stop Zanu PF thugs harassing, intimidate, vote buying in ZimPF strong areas like Mashonaland and Manicaland; Didymus Mutasa and Joice Mujuru can mobilize their former Zanu PF thugs and the war veterans who have joined ZimPF for the purpose. The tough question is will ZimPF agree to disband the gangs and implement the democratic reforms and do away with gangster politics? No chance!

    1. Well the coming by-election in Mwenezi is a must win for ZimPF or their mystic will be washed away like cheap make up! All those who have drumming up support for a grand coalition as the winning ticket in 2018 will look very foolish if their champion, ZimPF, is knocked out again in the first minute of the first of 12 rounds.

Kudakwashe Basikiti should stand aside and let Joice Mujuru, Teurai Ropa, herself contest the Mwenezi by-election! She has been itching for a fight, let her fight!

  3. "It means implementing laws that give effect to the people's hopes and aspirations in this Constitution; it means respecting human rights, respecting property rights; tackling corruption every bit as much with deed as with words; it means ensuring that the conditions are in place for Zimbabweans to go to the polls in a free and fair manner and those results being accepted; it means ensuring that no one is above the law and it means policy certainty," said Australian ambassador to Zimbabwe Suzanne McCourt.

    Hear, hear!

The emphasis here is in "conditions are in place for Zimbabweans to go to the polls in a free and fair manner and those results being accepted". We know there are some people who have vowed to contest the next elections "regardless of whether the reforms are implemented or not" because they are thugs in their own right and thus want to take Zanu PF thugs head-on. We want free and fair elections and not another rerun of the chaos and violence of 2018.

Joice Mujuru's liberation war name is Teurai Ropa (Spill Blood). She spilt blood during the war of independence and she was a senior member of the Zanu PF regime for 34 years which spilt the blood of over 30 000 innocent Zimbabweans. She is, no doubt itching to spill even more blood to get back into power! Enough Mrs Spill Blood! We will resist you taking part in flawed elections so you can spill more innocent blood!

  4. Former Vice President Joice Mujuru and her fledgling Zimbabwe People First (ZPF) party face another big political test when they square up against Zanu-PF in yet another by-election — this time in Mwenezi East.

Mujuru and her ZimPF friends have been claiming they can challenge Zanu PF thugs because they are thugs too. Kudakwashe Basikiti has shed blood of innocent MDC supporters in his Zanu PF days, we will now see if he is still the thug he was or, like most cowards, will run away with his tail between his legs when confronted with someone his size! My money is on him turning tail and Zanu PF winning another landslide!

  5. "The opposition has no strategy and answer to the problems of this country. "I said it and I will repeat it, you cannot win an election in this country without a component of Zanu-PF.  Do your maths. Zanu-PF had over 60 percent in 2013 while opposition had below 40 percent. Even if the opposition gets together, it will still remain 40 percent. I have not seen anything meaningful that they have done," said MP Themba Mliswa.

Well there goes Zimbabwe’s answer to SA’s Julius Malema, the two empty drums love making a lot of noise. Still, even the empty drum sometimes say what is clearly obvious; Zimbabwe’s opposition coalition will accomplish nothing if it cannot stop Zanu PF rigging the elections and securing 60%. What difference will making sure one opposition candidate gets the remaining 40% make in a winner takes all situation?
