In 1975 lan Douglas Smith, Prime Minister Rhodesia said, "If blacks are to rule themselves people in towns will walk on sewage until they believe it's normal, all the gains from colonisation will varnish, infrastructure will collapse, roads will be impassable, trains will kill people until they're abandoned as an unsafe mode of transport, hospitals will be closed ,farms will be grabbed and there will be nothing to feed the nation.”
Many, many blacks dismissed the remark back then as white supremacist rhetoric. I would wager that many of them did not even consider that, insulting or not, it was possible the prediction could turn into a prophecy and then a reality.
Well, 44 years after our independence, there is no denying many people in our towns and cities are walking on sewage and the infrastructure we inherited in 1980 is all in varying stages of rot and decay.
Are blacks really incapable of self-rule? The reality on the ground says all that needs be said on the subject.
The more interesting question to ask here would be: what was it that Ian Smith saw in blacks that made him predict with such pin-point accuracy that Zimbabwe, under black rule, will become the epitome of the failed state? For surely it was not written in the stars that blacks are incapable of self-rule.
One of the greatest and obvious weakness amongst blacks is our affinity to shut out, both physical (close our eyes and plug our ears) and mentally (those with low IQ have the knack for dismiss as trivial all those things they do not comprehend), what we do not want to hear. We did not want to hear that the country’s economy will collapse under black rule and so we angrily dismissed that the prediction.
In 1975 many other African countries had gained their independence and the economic collapse and political chaos had started soon thereafter. There was a distinct possibility that independent Zimbabwe would go down the same path. We did!
It is disheartening that even with all the evidence of our failure to govern ourselves, there are still many black Zimbabweans who still continue to deny Zimbabwe is a failed state much less that the root cause is 44 years of bad governance. They have yet to learn that it is sheer folly to shut out what we do not want to hear especially when it is the truth because it will not go away and, worse still, it will bite you.
Some races, nations and societies have learned that it is foolish to ignore one’s weaknesses and mistakes whilst we, as black Zimbabweans, have chosen to bury our heads in the sand and have repeated the same mistakes over and over again. We have failed to benefit from human history and our own tragic failures. The penny has not dropped and there is real fear that it may never drop!

ReplyDeleteZimbabweans must be smart enough to know not to fight over every bone Zanu PF throws at them. The ED2030 saga is an internal Zanu PF matter, povo must stay out of it and focus on demanding reforms and free and fair elections.
There is little to be gained by stopping Mnangagwa changing the two term limit since we will have a Zanu PF dictator post 2028. Whether it is Chiwenga or Mnangagwa is as irrelevant to us as the choice of cobra or black mamba to a mouse!
However if we have reforms and free and fair elections we would get rig of the Zanu PF dictatorship. Even if Mnangagwa is the Zanu PF candidate he will lose and we can put back the term limit clause at leisure!
Forgot ED2030 and just focus on demanding the implementation of democratic reforms to ensure free and fair elections! FOCUS!
https://bulawayo24.com/index-id-opinion-sc-columnist-byo-247940.html
ReplyDelete"If blacks rule themselves roads will become impassable!" predicted Smith in 1975. Now that is has come to pass, to dismiss the prediction as a racist remark is to miss the point completely. Indeed, to do so speaks volumes of one's intellectual deficiencies giving credence to prediction!
ED2030 is not a cause not even one ordinary Zimbabwean should waste even his/her breath fighting for. We have our own battle royal to fight for - the demand to implement the democratic reforms to ensure free, fair and credible elections.
ReplyDeleteEven if we join Chiwenga and help him stop Mnangagwa change the two term limit for the president he will thank us by rigging the 2028 elections and all we will have done is stop one dictator, Mnangagwa, to get another dictator, Chiwenga.
By focusing on reforms and free elections, we know we will finally have free, fair and credible elections. Even if Mnangagwa change the constitution we know neither he nor Chiwenga will ever win free and fair elections. And so we will cure ourselves of the curse of rigged elections, dictators and most import of all, the dictatorship.
Fight the good fight - demand reforms and free elections - and end the dictatorship. The ED2030 is the silly fight it will stop one dictator, Mnangagwa, whilst aiding and abetting another dictator, Chiwenga!
https://bulawayo24.com/index-id-opinion-sc-columnist-byo-247942.html
ReplyDeleteZimbabwe must focus on getting the democratic reforms implemented and thus guarantee free, fair and credible elections. The temptation to view what has happened in Botswana and SA as proof similar political changes will happen in Zimbabwe are misplace. The two countries have always held free and fair elections. We have never ever held free and fair elections in 44 years of our independence.
The opposition's repeated claim they can win RIGGED elections is an oxymoronic nonsense and it is insane to continue to believe such nonsense especially after 44 years of rigged elections!
And yet you still believe in Vision 2030! You do not believe what you can see with your own eyes but believe in a mirage by moonlight! No wonder we are a failed nation and deserve to suffer; we have too many village idiots with an IQ of a slug!
ReplyDelete@ Richard Mahupete
ReplyDelete“Not seeing this as a racist remark probably says a lot about YOUR intellect.”
What matters here is that the corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF thugs and their equally corrupt and incompetent MDC/CCC side-kick have ruled the nation for 44 years and people are walking on sewage, infrastructure has collapsed and millions of our people are living in abject poverty.
Millions of both Zanu PF and MDC/CCC supporters are so stupid they will not acknowledge the failure because they have been hard wire to believe their black leaders are demigods who can do no wrong. And the political leaders have exploited the supporters’ stupidity conning them to participate in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy, the side-kick a jackal’s share of the the scraps and nothing for the supporters.
It is not just the corrupt and incompetent leaders who have earned the nation the title blacks cannot rule themselves, it is the millions of brain dead supporters too who are to blame. To add salt to the wound we made the mistake of giving the nincompoops the voice and the vote, it was giving a loaded gun to a monkey, and now we are stuck.
So saying that Zimbabwe’s infrastructure has collapsed, it has indeed collapse, proves that I have the IQ of the slug and you who stubbornly maintain that it has not and believe in vision 2030 are wiser than King Solomon! Fcuk me!

ReplyDeleteOver 50 people were killed thousands were injured and millions of dollars of property was destroyed to say nothing of the problems the failure to end the curse of rigged elections and bad governance will bring in the coming years. This is not over by a long shot you nincompoop. Mnangagwa had no business poking his big nose in Mozambique’s affairs!

ReplyDeleteYES ZIMBABWEANS MUST REMEMBER 17 NOVEMBER 2017 AS "DZUNGU DAY" (DAY OD MADNESS). IT WAS MADNESS SUPPORTING THE MILITARY COUP WHEN ALL WE ACHIEVED WAS REMOVE ONE DICTATOR, MUGABE, ONLY TO REPLACE HIM WITH YET ANOTHER DICTATOR, MNANGAGWA. JUMPING FROM THE FRYING PAN INTO FIRE.
HISTORY HAS THE HABIT OF REPEATING ITSELF. WE MUST NOT SUPPORT THE FIGHT TO STOP ED2030 BANDWAGON ONLY TO STOP ONE DICTATOR, MNANGAGWA, AND GET ANOTHER DICTATOR, CHIWENGA. OUR FIGHT IS TO END THE DICTATORSHIP AND NOT TO SWAP ONE DICTATOR FOR ANOTHER!
WE MUST FIGHT FOR REFORMS AND FREE ELECTIONS THAT IS OUR BATTLE ROYAL AND NOT THE SIDE SHOW ED2030!
The situation is bad indeed! But this is not the full story. Zimbabwe has only added Hwange unit 7 and 8 to its power generation capacity last year, the first is 44 years. The country had feasibility study for Hwange unit 7 and 8 and Batoka Gorge Dam, second Kariba Dam if you want, back in 1980 and have yet to do something about it on the latter. The Smith regime would have completed both project in 1970s if it had not been for the war!
ReplyDeleteYes there is no water flowing in the Zambezi River at present but we cannot deny that the failure to invest in adequate generation capacity this last 44 years have made an otherwise bad situation a lot worse!
@ Balakazi
ReplyDelete“Are you trying to incite lawlessness?”
Who incited lawlessness those who rig the elections or those who protested rigged elections? In this case, we even have some foreign buffoon poking his proboscis nose into the internal affairs of another nation. Mnangagwa had no business rigging Mozambique elections!
@ Balakazi
ReplyDeleteHow naive! So the regime is good at arresting people over petty crimes and has allowed those robbing the nation blind with all the looting and committing mass murders go free. But considering those in positions of power and authority are the godfathers behind the looting and murders it is no surprise there is no rule of law!

ReplyDelete"I totally agree with paragraph 1 as to 2 you might be right I would a lot off people were not persuade to support zanu pf but simply wanted to see the back of uncle Bob."
I agree, many people celebrated the immediate benefit without a thought of the long term consequence that we are jumping from the proverbial frying pan into the fire. This is exactly what George Bernard Shaw meant when he said "Liberty means responsibility. That is why most men dread it." The joy of seeing Mugabe go quickly evaporated like the morning mist in the warming Africa sun.

ReplyDeleteThe truth is the nation is paying dearly for all these idiotic lies. Zimbabwe is a failed state precisely because we have been stuck with a corrupt, incompetent and vote rigging Zanu PF thugs for 44 years or be it the last 24 years was with the help of the equally corrupt, incompetent and utterly useless MDC/CCC leaders. Millions are living in abject poverty and millions more are wandering all over the world like the wandering Jew! We really must put an end to this insanity! Chamisa will participate in the 2028 flawed elections for the same reasons he participated in flawed elections in the past - greed and incompetency.
The challenge is to make sure the millions of ignorant and gullible Zimbabweans, especially the brain dead Chamisa chete chete brigade are not conned into participating in the flawed elections yet again. A very tall order given most of these individuals are brain dead, rule of law and knowledge mean nothing to them and they are impermeable to reason or logic!
Still, after 44 years of rigged elections and the nation up to its eyes in trouble we really cannot afford to let Zanu PF and their MDC/CCC side kick rig yet another election and get away with it. We must hammer some common sense into the empty heads of the Chamisa chete chete village idiots!
@ Rutendo
ReplyDeleteThis is just rubbish! One of the reasons why Ethiopian Airlines is so successful is because there is no government interference in the running of the company. The same cannot be said of SAA much Air Zimbabwe (AZ)!
So now Zimbabwe has Sovereign Fund, can we expect ZA to be the biggest in Africa? Last time I heard AZ had 2 planes, a number of pilots and 32 directors but what of it; the magic is Mutapa Sovereign Fund!
This is the kind of home millions of Zimbabweans live in today in this day and age. If they were given title deeds to the few acres on which their homes stand many would have built a more decent homestead. We have a regime that is denying millions of our people title deed and a foot on the economic ladder for selfish political reasons. Zanu PF does not want the rural people and many in the urban centres given title deeds to land for fear an economically empowered rural voter would demand political power next - and that is something the regime is not willing to give.
ReplyDeleteIt speaks volumes of us all that we have tolerated the situation in which Zanu PF is holding millions of our people ransom! How long are we going to allow this madness to continue?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EVlPrLGFiY
ReplyDeleteMillions of Zimbabweans are living in abject poverty because Zanu PF is deliberately keeping them poor and subservient. Why the regime's thugs have given themselves title deeds to the former white owned farms and yet stubbornly refuse to give Zimbabweans title deeds to even a few acres of land so they can build themselves decent homes beggars belief. It speaks volumes of us all to have allowed this inhumanity to continue to this day!
Zimbabweans in the urban areas and rural areas must be allowed to own land as a matter of basic human right! Zanu PF is denying them this right for the regime's selfish political gain. This must stopped!
Masimirembwa was served with his suspension letter last week. The lawyer-turned-politician is alleged to have abrogated the party and national Constitution.
ReplyDeleteThe suspension was confirmed in a letter from provincial political commissar Kudakwashe Damson, dated November 14, 2024
“It has been noted with utter shock and dismay, the grave acts of misconduct arising from your discharge of duties as Provincial Chairman as set out here in…
“Gross abrogation of the party Constitution and national Constitution. Firstly, by you personally and actively moving the ‘2030’ initiative and sloganeering against not only the will of His Excellency, the First Secretary and President of Zanu PF, Cde E.D. Mnangagwa, but also against the party and national Constitution, you have led and preferred an agenda that has the deliberate effect of causing divisions and factions in the party,” wrote Damson, on behalf of the Provincial Disciplinary Committee.
“We believe that the unconstitutional actions being pursued by you are meant to deliberately undermine and impair the standing the legacy of our revered leader, His Excellency, the President, in obvious pursuit of a hidden, selfish and nefarious agenda.”
Masimirembwa was also accused of sabotaging the Zanu electoral campaign in recent by elections held in Mt Pleasant and Harare East constituencies.
Masimirembwa recently had his offices at the Zimbabwe Legal Institute along Herbert Chitepo Street in Harare petrol bombed, leaving a security guard with serious burns.
The bomb attack was reportedly calculated to intimidate Masimirembwa, who was seen as the face of the “2030 Mnangagwa anenge achitonga” slogan.
In other provinces, Masvingo Provincial Affairs Minister, Ezra Chadzamira and his Midlands counterpart, Owen ‘Mudha’ Ncube are also targeted with suspensions, Zanu PF sources told NewZimbabwe.com.
If Masimirembwa deserves to be suspended from the party and petrol bombed because he is seen as the face of the “2030 Mnangagwa avenge achitonga” slogan. Then please tell me what is the fitting punishment for these responsible for rigging elections, master minding the 2008 Operation Mavhotera Papi, the 2017 military coup or, worst of all, the Gukurahundi massacre?
The people of Zimbabwe must not be fooled into believing VP Chiwenga cares about the constitution, he does not give a damn about it. He is waving it this time only because it suits his selfish interests to up hold the maximum term limit.
If Chiwenga should win this internal Zanu PF power struggle, he can be 100% certain that he will rig the 2028 elections.
Zimbabweans made a big mistake in supporting the Mnangagwa faction in the 2017 military coup. All the nation ever accomplished was to replace the dictator Mugabe for yet another dictator Mnangagwa. We must be smart enough to make sure we do not repeat the same foolish mistake.
The people must focus on demanding the implementation of the democratic reforms to ensure free, fair and credible elections. This is the battle royal we should be fighting to end the 44 years of rigged elections, to end the dictatorship, and not waste time fighting to swap one dictator for another!
@ Prince Sibanda
ReplyDeleteThis is just nonsense we have come to expect from these corrupt and incompetent MDC/CCC leaders and apologist. They said CCC would win big flawed 2023 elections because they plugged all vote rigging loop holes. The twats did not even have the courtesy to admit they had lied to con people to participate to give Zanu PF legitimacy and perpetuate the dictatorship and the nation’s suffering out of greed.
Indeed, it was the same greed that stopped MDC leaders from implementing even one toke reform during the 2008 to 2013 GNU when they had their best chance to implement the reforms.
Zanu PF has carte blanche powers to rig and win elections and this is why Coltart readily admitted the elections are “so flawed, so illegal, the logical step is to withdraw.” After 44 years of Zanu PF rigging the elections it is insane to keep up the pretence the opposition can win RIGGED elections. This is an oxymoron more so when we should demand the implementation of reforms and solve this problem once and for all.
Even if the people’s desperation for change should make it impossible for Zanu PF to rig the elections and get away with, the fact still remains that without implementing the reforms the curse of rigged elections will continue to hang over the nation like the sword of Damocles.

ReplyDeleteMDC/CCC leaders have failed to implement even one token reform in 24 years, including 5 years in the GNU. They have given up and are hiding their betrayal under the smoke screen that they can win RIGGED elections and have conned millions to participated in flawed. They know participating will give Zanu PF legitimacy and perpetuate the nation's suffering.
As long as Zimbabweans continue participating in the flawed elections SADC will give Zanu PF legitimacy. MDC/CCC leaders are gearing to con people to participate in flawed 2028 elections. It is for us to end this madness by refusing to participate!

ReplyDelete“The unification of Zimbabwe's common people is the only thing that can bring about change in the country. The progress of the struggle has been ruined and hindered by the so-called political gurus who have been involved in politics since the late Morgan Tsvangirayi founded the Movement of Democratic Change.
Instead of improving the lives of the people, who have been suffering under the ruling party's leadership, these politicians came merely to battle for their own interests and personal wealth. People want to modify the practice of placing all their eggs in one basket because they are sick of the same old way of doing things.
It has become suicidal to trust these politicians, and there has been no noticeable improvement.
What is needed right now for the country to move forward is the call for electoral reforms. Any serious political party that wants to lead must first push for these reforms.
Zanu PF is a narcissistic party that is only there to hoard power with no clue on what to do with it.”
MDC/CCC leaders had the golden opportunity to implement the democratic reforms especially during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. They wasted it and have since participated in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy out of greed. The real tragedy here is that millions of Zimbabweans have failed to comprehend this betrayal even now with the benefit of hindsight.
The people must realise the sheer futility of participating in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy, give MDC/CCC a few gravy train seats and to perpetuate the nation’s suffering. If they did then they will be demanding reforms before elections and not be so easily conned by the likes of Chamisa to participate in the flawed elections.

The trouble with village idiots like you is that you have no clue what you are talking about but pretend that you know! Did Mugabe and Zanu PF wanted to sign the 2008 Global Political Agreement and share power in the 2008 to 2013 GNU? So why are you talking of Zanu PF as the all powerful whose wishes are eternal!
MDC/CCC are not participating in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy for the purpose of stopping surrogates like Linda, Madhuku, etc. getting into power as you think. Why did MDC leaders failed to implement even one token reform during the 2008 to 2013 GNU; there were no surrogate opposition parties involved then? Chamisa and company are participating in these flawed elections for the same reasons he and others failed to implement even one token reform during the GNU - incompetency and greed!
The real surprise here is that MDC/CCC have failed to implement even one token reform in 24 years and it still has not occurred to village idiots like you to realise they are to up to the task. ReplyDeleteGukurahundi was about forcing PF Zapu to join Zanu PF clearing the deck for the imposition of the iron fisted de facto Zanu PF one-party dictatorship that has ruled the nation these last 44 years. MDC/CCC have wasted many chances to end the dictatorship and they are now Zanu PF team B in all but name - playing for team A to win and get legitimacy for the sake of the jackal's scraps at a lion's kill!

What is infuriating to some of us is that Chamisa will con you to participate in 2028 and the insanity will continue.
Of course, it is a great national tragedy that nincompoops like you have the voice and the vote. Up starts like Chamisa have no problem conning you to do as he damn well please and, in your infantile stupidity, you do not even realise you are shooting yourself in the foot and the nation at large!
A disturbing video allegedly showing patients and staff using cell phones as torches at Chitungwiza Hospital has surfaced on social media.
ReplyDeleteAmid the ongoing massive loadshedding, Chitungwiza General Hospital was also reportedly plunged into darkness last night.
When it comes to loadshedding, hospitals are usually exempt from power outages, but this time, it seems no exception was made for Chitungwiza Hospital.
With no electricity or backup power available, patients and staff can be seen in the video using their phones as torches to navigate the corridors.
