"I will attract investors," promised new Finance Minister - first resolve underlying legitimacy issues N Garikai

"I promise to do my best, I am a hard worker and I want to see Zimbabwe record strong and sustained growth. I also want to see creation of jobs and one of my major priorities would be to attract foreign investors and rebuild confidence. We do not only want to get foreign investment, but, also, domestic investment is extremely important,” said New Finance Minister, Professor Mthuli Ncube.

"We will need to look at the several pillars that affect economic development such as government expenditure, attracting foreign direct investment and so on."

No one expected you to say you will fail to create job, wealth and make Zimbabwe proud. The reality on the grounds says you are doomed to fail because you are promising to make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear!

President Mnangagwa, like Mugabe before him, has already shown that he has a head for spending money and worse still on foolish things like charted planes when the nation has no money for the most basic essential such as medicine, fuel and wheat but has no head for creating wealth!

Prices of goods have just shot up by as much as 50% and you are planning to cut the wages of the civil servants and soldiers. Good lucky!

Your greatest challenge has to be attracting both foreign and local investors; none of them will come. Minister, investors do not do business in pariah states.

By blatantly rigging the recent elections, President might as well have put up big billboard reading: ZIMBABWE IS A PARIAH STATE ALL INVESTORS COME HERE AT THEIR OWN PERIL! ZIMBABWE IS NOT OPEN FOR BUSINESS.

"I strongly believe in the President's vision of seeing Zimbabwe become a middle-income country,” promised the Minister.

President Mugabe promised the nation “Gutsva ruzhinji!” (Mass prosperity!) All he has brought is mass poverty! And he started with a very rich inheritance from Ian Smith. If Mugabe inherited the seven fat cow and seven fat ears of corn then Mnangagwa inherited one skin and bone cow.

Whilst Zimbabwe’s economic mess can be attributed to 38 years of gross mismanagement and rampant corruption the real root cause comes from answering the follow up question. Why did the nation fail to do something to stop this madness for all these years?
The nation failed to remove the corrupt and incompetent Zanu PF regime from power all these last 38 years and counting because the party blatantly rigged the elections. It is inconceivable that you, Professor Ncube are not aware the Zanu PF rigged this year’s elections just as it has rigged elections in the past.

In other words if President Mnangagwa should fail to deliver the economic recovery his regime is promising just as he failed to hold free, fair and credible elections; the nation will not hold the regime to account. He is set to rig the next elections just as readily as he rigged this year’s elections.

There is no point in us, the ordinary people wasting time discussing the merits or otherwise of you economic or monetary policies when we cannot hold the regime to democratic account if it fails to deliver the economic recovery. The ultimate measure of democratic accountability is being able to vote the regime out of office which the nation has failed to do for 38 years because Zanu PF rigs the elections. If we do not do something here and now to stop Zanu PF rigging 2023 election it will rig those elections too!

Nothing of any value can ever be accomplished until we deal with the curse of rigged elections.

Zanu PF rigged this year’s elections, we are still stuck with the corrupt and incompetent Zanu PF dictatorship which we cannot hold to account. We must resolve the political problem of stopping Zanu PF rigging elections only then can we discuss economic, monetary policies and other economic issues.

Zanu PF rigged this year’s elections and per se this regime is illegitimate and by extension so are all its ministers! So you see Professor Ncube, must know that you are illegitimate. You joined the illegitimate regime for the honour of being called minister and all the other trappings that go with the post.

This Zanu PF regime’s economic and monetary policies are doomed to fail because the regime is seeking to resolve the economic problems before resolving the underlying political problem of vote rigging and political legitimacy.

  1. Professor Ncube is just an ostrich with the foolish habit of bury its head in the sand just to blackout reality. He is wittering on and on about "attracting investors and making Zimbabwe a middle income nation". He opened his bank and it closed soon thereafter, like many other businesses in Zimbabwe, it must be said. No doubt the experience forced him to open his eyes, at least he did not open another bank assuming he had any resources or credit worthiness left, as it did with all the others who too have shied away from investing in Zimbabwe.

He is appointed Minister and the next day Professor Ncube is wagging his tail like an excited puppy and talking of "attracting investors". Would he lead by example and open another bank. He will have no shortage of customers seeing there are always people queuing to get $20 in bond coins? The appointment has triggered the ostrich in him; he is ignoring the reality that Zimbabwe is still a pariah state where it is impossible to do business in.

Zimbabwe is stuck with this corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship. The appointment of otherwise innocent and decent individuals like Professor Ncube and a few other is just meant to whitewash the Zanu PF tomb. The Zanu PF regime rigged the elections and that is the rot inside the tomb that the whitewashing is trying to hide.

For 38 years we have allowed Zanu PF to rig elections and get away with it and look where that folly has landed us. We must not allow this to happen ever again. President Mnangagwa is not going to keep his promise to make Zimbabwe a middle-income nation no more than he kept his promise to hold free, fair and credible elections. It will be insane to allow the regime to drag the nation even deeper into this economic and political hell on earth on the back of assurance from an ostrich!

We must focus on removing this illegitimate Zanu PF dictatorship before it rigs the next elections and appoint another set of naive and gullible individuals and thus perpetuate the fraud and tragic human misery it has brought! Ignore the wittering ostrich and focus on the real task - removing the illegitimate Zanu PF junta!

You are either one of those foolish individuals who are totally brainwashed and are now incapable of thinking for themselves or are a Zanu PF apologist paid to play the brainwashed clown.

"There is something wrong with this author just because your party lost in the recent elections does not mean elections were rigged. You were given a platform to prove that elections were rigged and your party failed to provide evidence. I know you are not happy with ED`s government because you are now seeing that he really mean business, just stop being jealous," you say.

Are you telling me elections in which 2 to 3 million, remember Mnangagwa reported won with 2.4 million vote, voters in the diaspora are denied the vote can be free, fair and credible. An election in which ZEC fail to produce a verified voters' roll, although this is a legal requirement, and voting patterns show there was multiple voting can ever be judge legal?

None of the elections observer teams from democratic countries have dared to endorse the flawed and illegal elections in Zimbabwe. Even the Con-Court judges did not dare to deny the shocking failures and irregularities in the whole process. What the judges said was they would not consider all the shocking evidence because it was not collaborated with evidence in the sealed ballot boxes, "primary source evidence".

They blame Chamisa's lawyers for failing to demand that the sealed boxes be opened but they were only hiding behind their fingers as the evidence before them was adequate and it they still wanted to see more it was within their power to ask the boxes to be opened.

Remember it is the same "learned and honourable" judges who eight months earlier had ruled that military coup "was legal" in Zimbabwe.

There is the destiny of the whole nation at stake here for you to keep defending the vote rigging thugs who got us into this hell-on-earth mess and are hell bend on keeping us there. All you care about is the apologist's thirty pieces of silver the junta pay you! How sad!

Zimbabwe's economic and political situation is grime, "negative" if you want. What could be more grime that having 90% unemployment rate, most basic services all but collapsed, ¾ of the population living on US$1.00 or less a day, etc. As if that was not grime enough, now we have the same corrupt and incompetent Zanu PF thugs rigging the elections and thus confirming the situation will only get worse.

Yes it is nice to hear the new Minister talking about attraction new investors, creating jobs and making Zimbabwe a middle-income nation a.s.a.p. Very positive, I agree. But given that by rigging the elections Zanu PF has just confirmed Zimbabwe is still a pariah state, there will be no investors coming. So Professor Ncube is just talking nonsense.

The situation in Zimbabwe is negative but that is the reality and we are here to deal with reality and not to bury our heads in the sand. Indeed we are deep in this mess because we have preferred to bury our heads in the sand rather than deal with this national scourge of rigged elections. We must deal with the problem. Zanu PF rigged the elections and appointing a few innocent but clearly naïve green horns into his illegitimate cabinet must not distract us from the task on hand making sure Mnangagwa does not get away with yet another rigged election!

  4. Mnangagwa will today swear-in his newly appointed Cabinet of 20 members, 13 deputy ministers and nine provincial ministers, to come up with policies that can steer the nation out of its prolonged doldrums. The swearing-in ceremony takes place at 7am at State House.

President Mnangagwa promised to hold free, fair and credible elections, this was the single most important first step the country to get out of the economic meltdown and political paralysis the country has been stuck in for decades now. Sadly he failed to keep his promise. By blatantly rigging the elections, President Mnangagwa may just as well have put up billboards announcing:

THE PARIAH STATE OF ZIMBABWE IS BACK IN BUSINESS. ALL INVESTORS, KEEP OUT!

Yes appointing a few innocent but sadly very naïve greenhorns, who are thrilled by the honour of being Minister but not aware they are window dressing and will never accomplish anything of substance, in his cabinet was a clever move designed to whitewash the tomb.

Zimbabwe is in this hell-on-earth situation because for the last 38 years the nation has been stuck with this corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship which rigged elections to stay in power regardless of the people's democratic wish. The nation has always found an excuse, no matter how feeble, to let Zanu PF get away with the rigged elections and hope to stop the rigging next time but never did.

There is one thing one can say with 100% certainty right now: this Zanu PF junta will NOT implement even one democratic reform in the next five years. And so as day follows night, we can be certain the junta will rig the next elections just as it has rigged past elections.

The cycle of Zanu PF rigging elections to stop the implementation of democratic reforms so Zanu PF can rig the next elections will never end!

The surest way to end this curse of rigged elections is to refuse to grant legitimacy to an illegitimate regime coming into power after rigging elections!

  5. What is Kirsty twittering about "take Zimbabwe forward"! The country has gone to the dogs following these 38 years of Zanu PF tyrannical rule. Mnangagwa is only using her and a few other innocent faces to whitewash his vote rigging corrupt and tyrannical regime. She is seduced by the trapping of high office and already she cannot see the potholes, the rigged elections, etc. How naive!

Like your Party`s lawyer you tend to be talkative but your contents lack depth. You are saying," None of the elections observer teams from democratic countries have dared to endorse the flawed and illegal elections in Zimbabwe". so you say mean there is no democracy in Africa and is only found in America. For your information you will remain in this desolate pit, just be man enough and accept reality and for sure ED will revive the economy for everyone to include you.

ED would not "need to revive the economy" if the Zanu PF governments, of which he was a senior member of, had not destroyed the economy through mismanagement and corruption.

By rigging the elections ED has just blown the nation's chances of any meaningful economic recovery because investors do not do business in pariah states ruled by vote rigging thugs!

Right now Zimbabwe is grappling with a cholera outbreak and is out begging for money. The world will remember that ED had just spend hundreds of millions of dollars buying new cars for Chiefs, party members and only last week splashed $1.4 million on a chartered plane for Grace Mugabe.

Zimbabwe will never get out of the hell-hole Zanu PF landed us in as long as nothing is done to end this cursed practice of rigging elections but that will not happen with an electorate that is content to bury its head in the backside of leaders when they should be holding them to account!
