“Insanity,” said the great Physicist Albert Einstein “in
doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result”
Talk of insanity and one immediately thinks of the mental
patient engaged in repetitive but futile task as watering the garden with a
leaking bucket. Whilst one can try to help the patient by pointing out the
obvious – the leaking – the solution may demand a quantum leap. Mental patients
have been known to suggest carrying the bucket on their head, on the shoulder,
on the side, etc.; none of which will do anything to stop the leaking.
Zimbabwe is well and truly stuck in an insane situation
economic meltdown and tragic human suffering as a result of 38 years and
counting of corrupt, tyrannical and murderous Zanu PF dictatorship.
When Zanu PF first got into power in 1980, the party
promised “Gutsva ruzhinji!” (Mass prosperity!) By the end of the first decade
the ordinary people were alarmed at the
steady economic decline.
The next decade was the two five-year Economic Structural Adjustment
Programmes (ESAP) in which the ordinary people were asked “to tighten their
belt”, in preparation for economic hardship to come. The people tightened their
belts but the promised economic recovery never materialised.
Zimbabwe’s economic situation has got even worse from 2000
to the present. One of the root causes of the economic meltdown was Zanu PF’s violent
seizures of the white owned farms that started in 2000. The farms were given to
party loyalists, mainly, who failed to put them to productive use resulting in
total collapse of the country’s agricultural sector and with it the economy.
Zimbabwe, which had prided itself in being the breadbasket
of the region, soon found itself dependent on imported food aid – the nation
was so impoverished it could not pay for the food. So we are starving in a
country which is, for all intent and purposes, the Garden of Eden! A damning
testimonial to Zanu PF misrule!
On the political front Zanu PF has over 30 000 innocent
Zimbabweans to establish and retain the de facto one-party dictatorship the
nation has suffered under all these years. Last month the regime shot died
seven Zimbabweans; a warning shot across the bow to scar away all those who might
have dared to the just ended rigged elections – the latest in a string of rigged
elections!
Zimbabwe is in this economic and political mess because the
nation has been well and truly stuck for 38 years and counting with a corrupt, incompetent
and tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship. The people have long realised Zanu PF was
a disaster for the nation but were powerless to remove the party from office.
“Zanu-PF is a political party and a player that is there
also to observe those human rights that are enshrined in our laws,” Justice
minister Ziyambi Ziyambi told News Day report.
The minister was boasted about Zanu PF’s commitment to human
rights. This, from the party that has just blatantly rigged the elections for the
umpteenth time!
“In terms of realigning laws, what we have been doing and
will continue to do is allow the Attorney-General's Office to identify all the
laws that need to be aligned and we have a dashboard where they need to follow
up the laws that need alignment . Basically, what we need to do is look into
the outstanding laws that need alignment, such as the Marriages Act, Public
Order and Security Act, Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act and
Citizenship Act. I think we need to clean them up and make sure that they are
aligned to the Constitution, so that is one of the tasks that we should
complete within the life span of this Parliament.”
Minister, the new constitution was approved in March 2013
and you are still talking of realigning laws! Zanu PF has usurped the people’s
power to hold those in power to account and acquired for itself the carte
blanche dictatorial powers to deny the people their freedoms and rights
including the right to free, fair and credible elections.
Zanu PF will never ever implement the democratic reforms to
ensure free, fair and credible elections.
The root cause of Zimbabwe’s economic and political mess is
38 years of corrupt and tyrannical rule, it is the metaphorical leaking bucket.
The people know the solution to their problem is removing Zanu PF from office
by making sure there are free, fair and credible elections. Zanu PF has usurped
the people’s power.
If the people of Zimbabwe are insane then it is for failing
to realise that allowing Zanu PF to rig elections and getting away with it was
in itself an act of futility because this has allowed the regime to drag the
nation deeper and deeper into this hell-on-earth the nation now finds itself
in!
The longer the people have allowed Zanu PF to rig elections
and get away with it the harder it has become to stop the vote rigging. If this
Mnangagwa junta is allowed to stay in power for the full five years then we can
be 100% certain that the next elections will be rigged. A Zanu PF government will
never ever implement any meaningful democratic reforms.
With unemployment now a nauseating 90%, most basic services
such as health care all but collapse, 75% now living on US$1.00 or less a day,
etc. poverty in Zimbabwe has now reached now levels – it is a killer. Hunger, cholera,
typhoid and even the easily curable diseases are now killing people!
By allowing Zanu PF thugs deny us our fundamental right to a
meaningful say in the governance of the country we have allowed the regime to
condemn us to an early grave. We have, by our silence and indifference to our
own fate, condemned ourselves to a short and miserable existence. We are
nothing but the living dead!
"...I'd rather slave on
earth for another man--
some dirt-poor tenant farmer
who scrapes to keep alive--
than rule down here over all
the breathless dead.”
-Achilles to Odysseus (Homer Odyssey)
Alive, Achilles lived life to the full, a master of his own
destiny. He never reckoned the world of the living dead and have found little to
envy them for!
The world will not forget that Zanu PF rigged the last elections and if nothing is done to force the regime to step down we can all be 100% certain that Zanu PF will rig the next elections. Zimbabwe is in this economic and political mess because we have failed to cure ourselves of the curse of rigged elections for the last 38 years.
ReplyDeleteThe cure of rigged elections is to force the illegitimate regime out of office because whilst it remains in power no meaningful democratic reforms will ever be implemented. This Zanu PF junta must not be allowed to serve its full five years and be the one entrusted with holding the next elections!
Mnangagwa said his administration was poised for victory in combating the cholera outbreak which had so far claimed 30 lives.
ReplyDeleteIf Zimbabwe was a healthy and functional democratic nation, there is no doubt that not even one single life would have been lost to cholera because there would have have been no outbreak of this killer disease in the first place. There only reason we have cholera is because of decades of doing nothing to ensure we had clean running water, working sewage services, drugs in hospitals, etc.
Mnangagwa has squandered nearly $1 billion on new cars, chartered planes and other luxuries alone in the six months in a country with no clean running water, etc. It is little wonder he and his Zanu PF junta friends rigged the elections!
Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF junta rigged the 30 July 2018 elections, they are illegitimate and they must not be allowed to serve the full five years. We cannot entrusted them to hold the next elections because they will just rig the elections again!
No stone must be left unturned to force this Zanu PF dictatorship to step down to allow the democratic reforms to be implemented otherwise the will never be an end to vote rigging!
“The spike in prices with bread rising to $1.10 and cooking fat to US$, evident that unless structural reforms are undertaken Zim enters another meltdown. Budget deficit at center of meltdown and requires boldness to deal with the same. Sadly there can never be reform without reformers,” tweeted Biti.
ReplyDeleteTrue, Zanu PF does not have any reformers but so too does MDC. Biti and company were in the GNU for five years; what democratic reforms did he and his friends implemented?
Biti and company were warned not to take part in the recent elections with no reforms in place, they did not listen. They knew Zanu PF will give away a few gravy train seats to entice the opposition to contest the elections no matter how flawed and illegal the process. Tendai Biti is pleased he got one of those bait gravy train seats. He did not care about reforms whilst hunting for the bait seats and now wants to get the limelight talking about reforms!
Please stop insulting our intelligence with your double Dutch! You are a sell-out. Just shut up!
"Legitimacy comes from the people of Zimbabwe through an electoral process. It does not come from Chamisa. Mnangagwa's legitimacy came from the Constitutional Court," said Paul Mangwana.
ReplyDelete"You don't go to an election to rule with an opposition. You go to an election so that people make a choice as to who do they want to lead the country. The people of Zimbabwe gave President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Zanu PF that mandate."
Zanu PF denied 2 to 3 million Zimbabweans in the diaspora a vote. ZEC has failed to produce a verified voters' roll and election results showed why as there was evidence of blatant vote rigging such as 16 polling stations with exactly the same number of ballots cast and exactly the same ballots cast for Mnangagwa - proof these were bussed voters.
Zanu PF rigged the elections and not even one of the many democratic nation has dared endorse the elections as having been free, fair and credible. The Americans have already made it clear the targeted sanction against the regime are staying because the elections were rigged!
This is not the first time Zanu PF has rigged the elections and claim it has the "people's mandate". What we must not allow the junta to get away with it because it will only allow it to rig the next elections. We must break this curse of rigged elections!
Zimbabwe has secured a $250million line of credit facility from Gemcorp Group, a London-based investment group focused on emerging markets.
ReplyDeleteThe five-year facility will enable the importation of essential and intermediate goods for Zimbabwe, Gemcorp said a statement released Monday.
Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube said the "granting of the facility by Gemcorp is a strong signal by foreign investors of their growing confidence in Zimbabwe. I expect more investors to follow suit".
Dream on Minister, dream on! Do you seriously expect real investors to invest real money in a nation that rigs elections and the next regime change will have to be another military coup! For someone whose new bank investment flopped, I thought you had learned to be more shrewd. Or is it the appointment as minister that has made you lose your head again!
"From what has been gathered thus far, the government on behalf of a private entity the Zimbabwe Aviation Leasing Company, paid about $110 million, but only $50 million was received by the Malay authorities," another source said.
ReplyDeleteHarare lawyer Phillipa Philips, who has represented Chikore in the past said she had since stopped doing so over what she said were integrity issues.
The rich in Zimbabwe have got filthy rich whilst the poor have got filthy poor!
