"Those boycotting elections are confused," says Khupe - she still has her head buried in the sand N Garikai

MDC T leader Thokozani Khupe has castigated fellow opposition parties who are threatening to boycott the July 30 polls, reported Zimeye.

“MDC-T president Dr Thokozani Khupe has lashed out at political parties that are threatening to boycott the July 30 harmonised elections saying they are confused,” read part of the message.

Dr Khupe, please ask me this: Do you believe we can have free, fair and credible election when there is no something as basic as a clean and verified voters’ rolls?

Even with the benefit of hindsight of the GNU and the rigged 2013 elections you are still failing to get your head round the simple reality that Zanu PF is rigging elections and, until the reforms are implemented, will continue to rig elections. Madam, Zanu PF is rigging these elections.

What is the point of contesting elections knowing the result is a Zanu PF victory which has nothing to do with the democratic wishes of the people?

But then, you do not care that the ordinary Zimbabweans are denied a meaningful say in these elections which is why MDC failed to get even one reform implemented during the GNU. As Deputy Prime Minister, you Dr Khupe, had your share of the spoils of high office; ministerial limo, generous allowances and salary, etc. in line with your position as deputy PM.

People have often said that your snouts in the feeding trough you, MDC leaders, forgot about implementing the democratic reforms. It is clear that many of the MDC leaders did not forget about implementing the reforms, they had no clue what the reforms were and many still have no clue even to this day. Dr Khupe, you are one of these who still have no clue what the reforms are about! None!

For someone who has been involved in Zimbabwe politics for all these years and yet does not know that elections are being rigged right before your own eyes! Madam Khupe, you not just confuse you are far worse than that; you are breathtakingly corrupt and incompetent and utterly useless!

The best outcome of these flawed elections is for the process to be condemned and declared null and void. This will force the nation to go back to the raft of democratic reforms agreed at the onset of the 2008 GNU and finally get the reforms implemented.

In a democratic Zimbabwe with an open and vibrant political system Mai Khupe would be at a loss to justify why she and her MDC failed to implement even one reform in five years of the GNU. Who, in his or her right mind, would insist in contesting in an election in with no clean and verified voters’ roll so hundreds of thousands their own supporters are denied the vote because their details were deliberately posted to another polling station?

  1. The person who is confused here is Mai Khupe herself! Like all the other MDC leaders who were is the GNU, she has never given a straight answer to the simple question: Why did MDC fail to implement even one democratic reform during the GNU? She was Tsvangirai's number 2 and not some junior member of the MDC team; surely she should be able to answer that!

MDC-T's official position is that Zanu PF stole the 2013 elections. Can Mai Khupe tells what MDC-T has done since then to make sure that Zano PF does not steal these elections too?

ZEC's failure to produce clean and verified voters' roll has set off the alarm bells ringing like Church bells because we know this was one way Zanu PF rigged the 2013 elections. How can we have free, fair and credible elections with no credible voters' roll?

Zanu PF is rigging these elections and it is insane to pretend otherwise but only to admit the same the day after voting day.

Mai Khupe is just another corrupt and incompetent Zimbabwe politician who was promoted to hold high public office way above her level of competence and now she is making a complete fool of herself in her desperate effort to prove she is clever. Madam, if you want to see who is confused; look in the mirror!

  2. What game of football will you play if one side is allowed to disregard the off-side rules, commit fouls, be awarded penalty kick even when the ball was in their own half of the pitch, etc.? If you agree to play under these conditions; what incentive is there for the cheating side to stop the cheating? Same is true with elections!

The only reason people like Dr Khupe want to participate in these elections is for the sake of the few gravy train seats Zanu PF gives away to entice greedy opposition politicians to take part in these elections no matter how flawed the process.

She does not care that the nation is stuck in this hell-on-earth because we have failed to hold free and fair elections as long as she gets a seat on the gravy train! She is not bright, never was, and now greed has completely overwhelmed whatever little intellect she had. Reason and logic mean nothing to Dr Khupe, she has slipped beyond the event horizon a long, long time ago!

  3. @ Thoko

Those who are complaining but continue to contest these flawed elections are just paying lip service to demands for free and fair elections. Think about it; Chamisa has been demand reforms but has always added the caveat "Reform or no reform, MDC-T will not boycott the elections!" Zanu PF has taken the caveat and ignore the reforms.

Indeed Zanu PF has stepped up its vote rigging and vote buying schemes, doing whatever the party felt was necessary to win the elections. Even the AU complained about the regime's failure to produce a clean and verified voters' roll in 2013 - it bothered the AU more than it bothered MDC politicians. Zanu PF has done this again this year and, as expected it did not stop MDC politicians participating!

Right now Zanu PF is worried that the AU election observer team in the country will notice there is, once again, no clean and verified voters' roll; the one thing the last team had said should not be allowed to happen again. This plus many other glaring irregularities may be the last straw, one hopes, that forces the AU to declare these flawed and illegal elections null and void.

Morgan Tsvangirai, Nelson Chamisa and the rest of these MDC village idiots are like the general who spends all his time preparing to celebrate the victory of the war he has not yet won! MDC wasted the golden opportunity to implement the democratic reforms to dismantle Zanu PF during the GNU because the very day they were sworn into office they believed MDC had completely neutralised Zanu PF!

Chamisa spent the last six months wittering about 400 km/hour bullet trains and spaghetti junctions at every growth point ignoring Zanu PF's vote rigging and vote buying shenanigans. The idiot has agreed to into these elections without something as basic as a clean voters' roll!

  4. MDC leaders have complained that Zanu PF rigs elections, when they got the golden opportunity to implement the reforms during the GNU they fail to get even one reforms implemented and now they are making a big song and dance about deadlines for ZEC/ Zanu PF to implement reforms. They have again and again ignored their own deadlines and, not surprising, ZEC and Zanu PF have done the same too! Talk of a bunch of people who are confused then one cannot give a better example then these MDC dudes!

Dr Thokosana Khupe, just like her fellow MDC friends, does not know her left hand from her right when it comes to the big issues affecting the nation. She, like everyone else in the opposition has blundered from pillar to post the only time she has shown some consistency is when she is following her snout to the feeding trough. Boycotting elections is out of the question no matter how flawed and illegal the electoral process got because boycotting removes her chance to get back on the gravy train!

Mugabe gave the MDC leaders the trappings of high office during the GNU and with their snouts in the trough they all forgot about the reforms. Zanu PF knows MDC leaders will sell the nation just for another day on the gravy train! Dr Khupe is certainly not confused about what she wants - a seat of the gravy train!

It is for the people of Zimbabwe to decide for themselves whether they are willing to continue to be blatantly denied their vote in these flawed elections just to allow Mai Khupe and her sell-out MDC friends to get the scraps! Participating in these flawed elections only serves to give the process credibility without changing anything else, that is a fact the people of Zimbabwe must accept!

We can bury our heads in the sand and pretend Zanu PF is not rigging these elections but come the 31 July 2018 we will be forced to accept that reality. Worse still, we would be helpless to change anything then. President Mnangagwa will be crowing "The voice of the people is the voice of God!" and we, by participating, would have helped him conceal the rigging!

  5. We cannot have elections in which someone is free to break the rules: it is unbelievable that we should even be debating something that is a plain as day light!
