Tsvangirai
is just an example of a failed leader who cannot think and, like a car locked
in one gear with a broken stirring shaft and no breaks, he can only go in one
direction regardless how stupid and dangerous that may be.
“This
morning, he (Tsvangirai) was assuring Zimbabweans he will be home soon; urging
the nation to cooperate with the ongoing nationwide exercise to acquire birth
certificates and national registration documents that will enable them to
exercise their right to vote,” Luke Tamborinyoka, Tsvangirai’s spokesman, said.
“We
urged Zimbabweans to turn out for voter registration in their multitudes so as
to deal with the multiple cancers afflicting the nation that include corruption
and clueless leadership that is concentrating on succession battles at the
expense of the plight of the ordinary people.
“In
his usual light-hearted manner, President Tsvangirai said he was more worried
about the country’s health, urging Zimbabweans to vote wisely next year so as
to deal with the multi-layered afflictions of the country’s political economy.”
President
Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF thugs landing the nation in this economic mess
and political paralysis but, if the truth must be said, it is the corrupt and
incompetent opposition that has kept us stuck in the mess these last two
decades. MDC have had many opportunities to end the Zanu PF dictatorship but
have wasted them all.
Even
now, with the benefit of hindsight, Tsvangirai cannot get it in his head that
Zanu PF has been rigging elections to stay in power and hence the reason why the
country needs to implement the democratic reforms before holding another
election. It is futile to keep contesting flawed elections whose results are
pre-determined.
Although,
Tsvangirai has complained of Zanu PF rigging the elections every time he has,
nonetheless, consistent refused to do anything to address the problem of vote
rigging head-on by implementing the democratic reforms convince he can win
still win the elections regardless. In the March 2008 elections, for example,
Zimbabweans voted for Tsvangirai in droves to give him a 73% victory, according
to President Mugabe’s own inadvertent admission. Mugabe ordered the Zanu PF controlled
ZEC to recount the votes and after six weeks of “cooking up” the figures
Tsvangirai’s votes were whittled down to 47% - enough to force the run-off.
In
the run-off, Zanu PF “declared war on the people”, to use Tsvangirai’s own
words; to force them to vote for Mugabe. President Mugabe turned his earlier 27%
defeat into a landslide, 84%, victory.
SADC
leaders refused to accept President Mugabe’s victory as a true reflection of
the free and democratic wishes of the people of Zimbabwe; not after such
blatant vote rigging and wanton violence. They proposed the formation of the
GNU which was then tasked to implemented a raft of democratic reforms; along
the same lines as had been proposed for Kenya the year before, 2007.
Whilst
Kenya’s Prime Minister Raila Odinga understood the importance of implementing
the democratic reforms and got on with it, PM Morgan Tsvangirai did not implement
even one reform during the GNU, not one. How he still expected to win elections
in which Zanu PF can cook up a 73% victory to 47% to force a run-off or use
wanton violence to overhaul a 27% into a 84% is a complete mystery.
SADC
leaders advised Tsvangirai and his MDC friends not to contest the 2013
elections with no reforms in place; it was obvious Zanu PF would rig the vote.
“If
you go into elections next month, you are going to lose; the elections are
done,” SADC leaders warned Morgan Tsvangirai & co. in June 2013, according
to Dr Ibbo Mandaza who attended the Maputo summit.
There
is only one rational explanation why MDC did not implement any reforms and
continue to contest flawed elections – greed.
“The worst aspect for me about the failure to
agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw
from the (2013) elections,” explained Senator Coltart in his recent book.
“The
electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to
withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the
distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that
the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process
credibility.”
MDC
factions have since found each other and formed the MDC Alliance but there will
be no talk of boycotting next year’s elections, as Senator Coltart had
suggested. MDC are going to contest elections regardless how flawed and illegal
the process happens to be as long as there is a chance to win the few seat Zanu
PF throws away, bait, to entice the opposition to contest.
Tsvangirai
was right on one point; Zimbabwe is dying from many cancers and the mother of
these cancers being “clueless leadership” and when it comes to democratic
change he is totally clueless.
After
all the huffing and puffing about MDC being the party for democratic change, as
the party name implies, all the “Chinja maitiro! Gukula izenzo! Change your
ways!” sloganiaring; “No reform, no election!” party congress resolution, etc.,
etc.; MDC has not brought about even one democratic change. Indeed, MDC has been
the biggest obstacle to meaningful democratic change in Zimbabwe because of MDC
leaders are breathtakingly corrupt and incompetent.
President
Tsvangirai urged “Zimbabweans to vote wisely next year.” Yeah, right! The
nation did much more than vote wisely in March 2008; they risked life and limb
to give you staggering 73% victory in March 2008, you twat! You have never
become president because Robert Mugabe has blatantly cooked up vote and used
brutal violence to deny ordinary Zimbabweans their most basic human right; the
right to free, fair and credible elections.
Whilst Raila Odinga realised that for meaningful elections to take place it was necessary to implement the democratic reforms and knuckled down to do it during Kenya's GNU. Morgan Tsvangirai did not appreciate the importance. It is no surprise that Mugabe found bribing him and his MDC mates to kick reforms into the tall grass easy.
ReplyDeleteHaving forfeited their golden opportunity to get reforms implemented during the GNU MDC leaders have settled for whatever they can get from Zanu PF. At present, the regime is giving away the 1/3 or so of the gravy train seats to entice the opposition top contest the flawed elections. It is for these seats that the opposition continue contesting flawed elections.
Tsvangirai and company do not care about free, fair and credible elections, they gave up on delivering such elections after the GNU and now they really do not give a damn. The sooner the people realised this fundamental truth the better for the nation.
If the electorate were wide-awake and not in their usual comatose state then they would be the ones asking why they should be the ones who must continue to give up their right to free and fair elections to pursue this stupid notion of winning rigged elections!
Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) Bulawayo chairperson Cephas Ncube said war veterans aspiring for office should prepare their CVs and submit them to the provincial office.
ReplyDelete"If as a revolutionary party we lose these elections, coming back will be a struggle because these reactionaries will make sure they finish us up for good. Let us not let that happen," he said.
It is understandable to see why many war veterans would think their own survival is now tied to the survival of the Zanu PF dictatorship. What these war veterans have failed to understand is that it is the failed Zanu PF dictatorship that is the root cause of the country’s economic meltdown and that they, the war veterans, have help Mugabe impose the dictatorship on the nation. What is more, the country’s economic recovery is totally dependent on dismantling the dictatorship.
These rogue war veterans have never understood the concept of freedom, liberty and human rights for all. It is high time they accepted that every Zimbabwean has a right to freedom and all the human rights including the right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country. They, like everyone else, are entitled to one vote; they do not have a veto. These freedoms and rights are not negotiable!
@003Tico
ReplyDeleteTsvangirai is a corrupt and incompetent leader, you are refusing to accept that because you have a binary mind. You can only deal with two concepts good or bad, black or white. You have accepted that Mugabe is a corrupt and murderous tyrant and therefore Tsvangirai, his challenger, must be good. Your binary mind cannot accept the facts on the ground proving beyond doubt that Tsvangirai is a corrupt and incompetent leader who sold-out during the GNU by failing to get even one reform implemented.
You cannot accept that anyone can see Tsvangirai for whom he is unless they are paid by Zanu PF.
You need to open your sees and stop seeing everything in monochrome and, instead see all the colours of the rainbow.
The Mugabe Mandela fight for regional domination.
ReplyDeleteWhen the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth is known about how corrupt. incompetent and tyrannical Mugabe is, there will be no debate as to where he stands compared to Nelson Mandela. Mandela was a man of substance and he had a vision of a free and just nation, the rainbow nation and he delivered that.
There is sufficient material out there in the public domain to point out who is the true hero and who is a pathetic pretender but history will set this in concrete.
It is the tyrant and his apologists who are creating the confusion and portraying Mugabe as someone he is not. Once there is regime change, the people of Zimbabwe will have a chance to reject Robert Mugabe because of all the suffering and deaths he has brought to the nation.
@Man Sib
ReplyDeletePresident Mugabe has destroyed the hopes and dreams of a whole nation, millions of our people are out of work and living in abject poverty. The tyrant has murdered over 30 000 innocent Zimbabweans. I do not remember you being outraged.
Morgan Tsvangirai had many golden opportunities to implement the democratic reforms and thus end the Zanu PF dictatorship and the suffering the regime has brought. MDC leaders sold-out and failed to get even one reform implemented. I do not remember you ever expressing your outrage at the MDC leaders. Nomusa has dared to express her outrage at Tsvangirai for selling out and you descend on her from Mount Everest for it! You know what, you too are a twat!
Elections should be about the electorate exercising their democratic right freely to elect those they want to lead them. Whilst everything practical should be done to ensure every citizen has the opportunity to exercise their democratic right and that the whole process is free, fair and credible; it is not always possible to achieve perfection.
ReplyDeleteThe acceptance of the reality that it is not possible to guarantee free, fair and credible elections has been used by unscrupulous individuals to corrupt the elections in their favour or to justify doing little to deliver free and fair elections. Zanu PF has corrupted our electoral system to the point where it is impossible to even think the election result has anything to do with the wishes of the electorate. If the regime can order a recount to overturn a 73% victory to a 47% to force a run off and then use violence to overhaul it into a 16% defeat; it is clear the process has nothing to do with the electorate. The regime is generating the votes to deliver whatever result it wishes.
When it comes to elections, Mugabe has a dice with six on each of the six sides; only a madman would bet on the tyrant failing to throw a six. The only reason opposition leaders like Tsvangirai continue contesting the flawed elections is because Mugabe is paying them to contest by allowing them to win a few of the gravy train seats.
After 37 years of rigged elections, there really is no excuse for continuing to contest flawed elections. None. The people must wake up to the reality the opposition leaders have sold-out on delivering free, fair and credible elections.
The party further claims that the ZEC has not yet received all the machines for conducting the biometric voter registration exercise and severs for storing the collected data, with the state media reporting earlier on that 2600 BVR kits are expected to arrive from China soon.
ReplyDeleteIn the presentation to the High Court, party Secretary General Douglas Mwonzora also claimed that issues such as the designation of places for the voter registration program, difficulties faced by some Zimbabweans in obtaining identity documents and challenges faced by aliens who want to register to vote in the forthcoming polls need to be clarified and sorted before the exercise can resume.
The voter registration exercise should have started years ago if there is any hope to produce a new, verifiable voters’ roll of 7 million. The regime failure to produce a verifiable voters’ roll for the 2013 elections is one of the contentious irregularities of the last elections. The nation expected the MDC to be have the common sense and stop this happening ever again. Sadly, that was not to be.
The very fact that it is none other than opposition who are seeking to delay the voter registration exercise now only goes to show MDC people have no clue what is happening here. Surely the nation should use whatever kit it has already to start the voter registration; one does not need all the kits to get started. The same applies to the IDs, it would be great if this had been sorted already but we can start registering those who have all their documents.
If we have to ask for an extension of time to allow all the would-be voters to register, to verify the voters’ roll, etc.; this would make sense. Now how will MDC justify demanding an extension of time when it was them who failed to push the regime to start the voter registration exercise early and, worse still, want the exercise delayed even further for very stupid reasons!
