MDC calls for BVR protests - why bother if already have strategies to win rigged elections N Garikai

With President Mugabe and Zanu PF, we all know their intention is to rig the coming elections to ensure no regime change. They have used all manner of dirty tricks to achieve their objective included cooking up the vote count to reduce Tsvangirai’s 73% in the March 2008 election to 47% to force the run-off and then using violence to secure an 84% victory.

SADC leaders proposed in the 2008 Global Political Agreement (GPA) which gave birth to the GNU that Zimbabweans must implement a raft of democratic reforms designed to stop Zanu PF rigging BEFORE holding another election. SADC leaders have been criticized for many things as regards their handling of the Zimbabwe political crisis throughout the GNU years as the guarantor of the GPA. The one thing no one can deny is that SADC tries to get Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC to implement the reforms but were ignored.

MDC leaders “were busy enjoying themselves during the GNU, they forgot why they were there” one SADC leaders said in sheer frustration after Zanu PF rigged the July 2013 elections.

When it comes to Tsvangirai and his MDC friends; they are corrupt and incompetent, so incompetent that there is a constant state of confusion and chaos in the opposition camp. At the heart of Tsvangirai’s political ethos is the belief that MDC can win rigged elections and hence the reason the party ignore SADC leaders’ advice to implement the reforms and not to contest elections without implementing the reforms.

President Mugabe has risen to MDC’s challenge of him losing an election he has cart blanche powers to rig. He has upgraded his vote rigging from using a loaded dice to using a dice with six on all six sides. How can he possible lose if he can recount 73% and turn it into 47% just as he cannot throw anything else other a six with his special dice!

Instead of Tsvangirai accepting that Zanu PF cannot be dislodge from office as long as the regime has the dictatorial powers to rig the vote and thus embrace reform; he is, stubbornly, searching for ways to win the rigged elections. In his stubborn foolishness, it is not surprising that Tsvangirai has again and again contradicted himself.

Two weeks ago, MDC lodged a Court application to stop the voter registration exercise on the grounds that ZEC did not have all the BVR kits to carry out the task. A stupid move, given the exercise should have started soon after the July 2013 elections and we should now have a verified voters’ roll. The failure to produce a verified voters’ roll in the 2013 elections is one of the burning issues in that election. The regime has stubbornly refuse to release a verifiable voters’ roll to this day; the equivalent of refusing to let anyone examine the dice. The MDC should have been demand to have the voter registration started a.s.a.p. and should now, a year before the elections, be demanding a verified voters’ roll and not be the ones demanding the registration to be delayed!

The Courts have thrown out MDC’s application on the grounds that it is “not urgent”.
“People are being frustrated by the slow pace of the registration and in urban areas, especially in Harare, an average of 72 people are being registered daily while hundreds are being turned away,” complained Douglas Mwonzora, MDC Secretary General, in respond to the slow pace of the registration.
“The strategy of both ZEC and the regime is very simple they want to discourage people from registering to vote. They want Zimbabweans to give up on voter registration and therefore abandon voting altogether.”

President Mugabe knows that he cannot win a free, fair and credible elections and so he has no choice but rig the vote. Yes, one way of achieving his objective (there are many others such as buying the vote, intimidating the voters, etc. and he is using them too) is frustrating the real voters to deny them a vote and then produce a voters’ roll of fictitious voters who will then vote for him.

By stubbornly refuse to implement the reforms before the elections MDC have made it all possible for President Mugabe to continue rigging elections and get away with it.
“We have to go into the streets and peacefully demonstrate against the attempts to steal our vote because this voter registration battle is the Waterloo and Mugabe, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) and Zanu PF know it,” announce Mwonzora.
“People are not begging to be registered but they are demanding their right to register and vote and they must be given their rights. Shortly we are going to advise on the dates and venues of mass action and no one is going to stop us.”

So, what exactly will you be demanding Mr Secretary General of MDC, “the party of excellence,” sir? Are you demanding that the voter registration must be postpone, as you requested in your Court application? If so, how will this help the people “demanding their right to register and vote”? The people of Zimbabwe will be ill-advised joining in these street demonstrations with no clear objective.

If MDC truly believe it can win rigged elections, then the party will win next year’s elections regardless of all the Zanu PF and ZEC vote rigging shenanigans. So, what is there to protest?

It is high time people told Morgan Tsvangirai and company to stop all this nonsense of MDC will win rigged elections. Zimbabwe would have had free, fair and credible elections in 2013, at the latest, if Tsvangirai & co. had not sold-out and implemented the reforms during the GNU. Right now, the nation would be debating economic policies and nation building and not still stuck on voter registration and reforms.

The people of Zimbabwe must now demand the full implementation of the democratic reforms BEFORE BVR voter registration, rallies or anything whatsoever to do with these flawed and illegal electoral process. There is no way ZEC can produce a verifiable voters’ roll now and it is madness to contest another election with not even something as basic as a voters’ roll!

*Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. So, what’s my point here? The point is we can’t be conned twice the same way in 10 years and blame the conmen. It won’t be amnesia but sheer idiocy*

In Zimbabwe it has been easy to fool not just a few people but the overwhelming majority again and again and again. A cunning conman like President Mugabe has done it for over 37 years and counting, even his MPs and ministers are nothing more than “vakadzi vaMugabe” (Mugabe’s subservient concubines), as Margaret Dongo aptly called them. He has brainwashed povo, and conning them again and again has been easy. Even a simpleton like Morgan Tsvangirai has too managed to con Zimbabweans with ease.

The people of Zimbabwe risked life and limb to elect MDC leaders into power on the promise they would deliver democratic change. After 17 years, 5 of which they were in the GNU, MDC have failed to deliver not even one democratic change.

MDC leaders “were busy enjoying themselves in the GNU, they forgot why they were there,” remarked one SADC leaders in exasperation at MDC’s failure to implement even one democratic reform in 5 years of the GNU.

Indeed, after selling-out during the GNU MDC leaders are justifying their continued insistence in contesting flawed and illegal elections on shaky grounds that they have devised Winning In Rigged Elections (WIRE) strategies. In other words, the people should forget about democratic changes, free and fair elections, etc.; MDC have devised a new political system in which the autocratic and totalitarian dictator is allowed to exist and elections are all about winning rigged elections! It is all nonsense, of course, what is shocking that many Zimbabweans out there actually believe this nonsense!

Our people’s failure to pay attention to detail is their Achilles’ heel, fooling someone whose understanding of the subject matter is superficial, at best, is child’s play; even a simpleton like Tsvangirai will con you a thousand times. We have been fooled a thousand times and a thousand times again; and, until we learn that detail matters, we will be conned thousands of times! We have paid dearly for our stupidity in lost treasure, human misery and even human lives beside shame!

  2. PDP was thrown into disarray when Gorden Moyo addressed a press conference in Bulawayo alongside Zapu president Dumiso Dabengwa and officials from former vice president Joice Mujuru's National People's Party (NPP) after they had registered as voters, suggesting the fledgling party had formed its own alliance with the two leaders.

These opposition politicians are only concerned about sharing out the few seats they know Zanu PF gives away as bribe to entice the opposition to contest the flawed elections. The fact that the whole election process is flawed and will deny the ordinary people a meaningful vote and worse still that by contesting the elections the opposition are giving the process credibility and forfeiting the chance for reform is of no consequences to them.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the elections,” Coltart admitted in his recent book regarding the July 2013 elections.

“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”

It was madness contesting the July 2013 elections with no reform and we must not allow these greed opposition politicians drag us into yet another futile election! We, the ordinary Zimbabweans, demand the implementation of the democratic reforms BEFORE elections. The long delayed and chaotic BVR exercise is clearly part of the vote rigging already underway as it is clear ZEC will never produce a verifiable voters’ roll now. The people of Zimbabwe must refuse to have anything with the flawed process now underway!

  3. "Mawarire, was on Sunday arrested in his church and was charged with subverting a constitutionally elected government."

That is laughable given that Zanu rigged the july 2013 elections!

It is a great pity that Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC goofs did not have the common sense to listen to SADC leaders who warned them not to contest the July 2013 elections without reforms. By contesting, MDC gave the flawed elections political credibility which Zanu PF is now milking to the full. It is intolerable that the same MDC idiots are making the mistake again and contesting next year's election with no reforms in place contrary to their own party congress resolution of "No reform, no elections!"

  4. ”VP, Mnangagwa has threatened to sue me for $3m over Majonga matter. Pity he’s taking Politburo matters to court. Ok!” twittered Professor Jonathan Moyo.

This is laughable, is the nutty Professor trying to imply that Zanu PF politburo members are entitled to some form of parliamentary privileges???

If the truth be told VP Mnangagwa's reputation was damaged beyond repair by his role in the Gukurahundi massacre. I am not saying Majonga's suffering is not important, even if Mnangagwa was involved but surely it nothing compared to the cold blooded murdered of over 20 000!

  5. Responding to fears of vote rigging of the 2018 elections among the students, the youth commander assured the students that, just like the Kenyan NASA coalition, the MDC alliance has established an anti rigging team that will ensure the rigging system is defeated. “Zanu pf is a minority party and it will not be allowed to rig elections in Zimbabwe again” said the MDC-T youth Chair, Bvondo.

This is a very bold thing to say and given that MDC has made similar claims in the past but failed to deliver and has produced nothing tangible to prove this time will be different; the nation will be very foolish to take this as nothing else other than the usual hot air.

MDC has been advised by SADC leaders not to contest the July 2013 elections without implementing the reforms designed to stop the vote rigging first. Tsvangirai and company paid no heed and we all know Zanu PF rigged those elections. There is evidence already, from the delayed and chaotic voter registration taking place now for example, that Zanu PF is rigging next year’s elections. MDC must know that it has freely chosen to contest next year’s elections with no reforms in place; this time all those opposition candidates who contest the elections will be held to account if the elections are rigged. ailed to stop vote rigging in the past and has produced nothing to show the party has indeed.

Zimbabwe is now sitting on the knife-edge of serious economic and political instability; another rigged election may be the final push sending us over the edge into the abyss. We do not need to take the foolish risk of contesting flawed elections when there is so much at stake! It is madness!

Zanu PF will “NOT BE ALLOWED TO RIG ELECTION!” Are you sure or this is just political posturing gone mad! “Kurasa muromo wazvimbirwa nedumba!”
