Dear
Dr Dzamara
“ZANU
PF’s mismanagement and profligacy has landed Zimbabwe in economic doldrums. All
economic indicators point towards a state that is on a life support system,”
you rightly said in blaming Zanu PF for the country’s sorry economic state. See
the Nehanda Radio.
“The
backbone of any economy in the 21st century is industrialisation. There are
virtually no prospects of our country reindustrialising under the current
regime which has enacted several draconian laws leading to investor apathy.”
There
is clearly no faulting your analysis of what is wrong with Zanu PF and, more
significantly, why we should not place any hope of the regime getting us out of
the hell-hole. However, when you move to talking about the opposition you
immediately lose that clarity.
“This
week, the Leaders of the two main opposition parties, Morgan Tsvangirai (MDC-T)
and Joice Mujuru (NPP) signed a memorandum of understanding on behalf of their
parties to establish a pre-election alliance enroute to the establishment of an
extrapolated coalition government. Yesterday, Morgan Tsvangirai (MDC-T) and
Professor Welshman Ncube (MDC) also signed a memorandum of understanding. These
are positive steps towards establishing a broad alliance.
“Indeed,
it is time to unite and mobilise everything and everyone not just in opposition
against ZANU PF but towards a better Zimbabwe. My own personal philosophy has
always revolved around team work and unity of purpose – not losing the bigger
picture. I believe that the coming together of the opposition political parties
is a step in the right direction but it must not end there.”
You,
like many other Zimbabweans, have clearly learnt nothing from our own past
blunders. We are in this mess because for years before and after independence
we refused to see President Robert Mugabe and his cronies for what they were incompetent,
corrupt and ruthless tyrants.
One
can forgive the ordinary Zimbabwean in 1980, who knew every little about Mugabe
and company were and therefore had no choice other than assume they had the
nation’s interest at heart. But even then povo were very slow in opening their
eyes as many continued to give their support to the Zanu PF dictatorship well
into the 1990s; well after there were mountains of evidence of the economic
collapse and the Gukurahundi massacres.
If
we had been diligent in our selection of quality leader, at least leaders with
some common sense, Zimbabwe would not be in this hell-hole President Mugabe and
his Zanu PF thugs have landed us. It is sheer folly for us to make the same
mistake again of electing individuals with no common sense and expect them to
not only take us out of the hell-hole but to a better and prosperous Zimbabwe –
which is exactly what you, Dr Dzamara, are proposing to do.
The
individuals, Joice Mujuru, Morgan Tsvangirai and Welshman Ncube, you are proposing
to lead the nation post Zanu PF we not only know that they have no common sense
but, worse still, they are corrupt and incompetent.
Joice
Mujuru was at the very heart of the corrupt and murderous Zanu PF regime which
you have rightly condemned. It is nonsense that the painful process of being
booted out of Zanu PF was enough to cleanse her and all her followers of their corrupt
and thuggery mentality. She is just as corrupt and incompetent as ever; she is
fighting tooth and nail to get back on gravy train so she take up with her
looting from where she left off in 2014 when she was booted off the gravy
train.
Indeed,
NPP members see their vast experience as political thugs as a great asset and
their contribution to the opposition camp. Senior party members have been
boasting about Mujuru’s 2008 operation “Bhora musango” (Kick ball into the
bush), in which her supporters were instructed to vote for a Zanu PF
parliamentary candidate but vote Tsvangirai instead of Mugabe for president. Tsvangirai
got 73% of the vote by President Mugabe’s own admission. The tyrant force ZEC
to “cook” the vote count to reduce Tsvangirai’s tally to 47% to force a
presidential run-off.
NPP
leaders are promising other vote rigging tactics similar to “Bhora musango!” to
counter Zanu PF’s vote rigging juggernaut. Even if NPP members are indeed that
strategically competent, which is a big if, and the opposition win the next
elections as a result; who is going to stop these thugs using the same tactics
in future?
We
should be seeking to end the Zanu PF dictatorship and replacing it with a
healthy and functional democracy and not with another Zanu PF dictatorship in
all but name.
As
Morgan Tsvangirai and Welshman Ncube, these are the two leaders of the MDC
factions in the GNU who failed to get even one democratic reform implemented in
five years. NOT EVEN ONE! What else, for Pete’s sake, do these two have to do
to finally convince you Dr Dzamara, that they are corrupt, incompetent and treasonous
sell-outs to boot?
I do
not accept the self-defeatist argument that we should concentrate on removing
Mugabe even if it be by someone corrupt and incompetent like Tsvangirai with
the view of voting him out after five years. The problem is he will not
implement the democratic reforms necessary to ensure quality leaders can emerge
and thus we will end up being stuck with a corrupt political system that will
produce mediocre leaders.
Tsvangirai
is as corrupt and incompetent as his fellow trade union leader Frederick
Chiluba of Zambia. Like Tsvangirai, he promised to transform Zambia after 27
years of Kenneth Kaunda misrule but failed; look at the sorry state of that
country. Surely we should aim for doing a lot better than become another Zambia
voting out one mediocre regime but only to replace it with another.
There
are those who argue that we must accept Tsvangirai, corrupt and incompetent as
he is – mole and all, because there is no other competent leader on offer. What
these people fail to appreciate is that the present political system of stifled
debate and totalitarian autocracy will never produce quality leaders but the
corrupt, incompetent and thugs we see. If we want quality leaders we must first
dismantle the dictatorship by implementing the democratic reforms to create the
healthy democratic environment conducive to open debate and democratic
competition.
Dr
Dzamara we are never going to get out of this hell-hole we are stuck in today
replacing the corrupt and tyrannical Mugabe dictatorship by recycled corrupt
and incompetent individuals like Mujuru and Tsvangirai. If you have not learnt
even that after all the 37 years of Zimbabwe blundering from pillar to post then
you have not learned the single most important lesson of all! Tsvangirai and
Mujuru are nothing more than vomit, not even a stray-dog would feed on its own
vomit!
It
is not the opposition coalition we want but rather to implement the democratic
reforms and make sure we have free, fair and credible elections. All these
opposition politicians want is to get back on the gravy train and they are
using the formation of coalitions to cover up for why they have done nothing to
implement reforms since the rigged July 2013 elections and in the past.
Open your eyes my
brother, Dr Dzamara, Joice Mujuru is still a thug; it was not wearing the Zanu
PF regalia that made her one!
Best
regards
Patrick
Guramatunhu
Most of our independent news papers, civic organisations, NGOs, and private individuals supported Morgan Tsvangirai and the MDC politicians blindly throughout the GNU. Even when it was becoming increasing obvious that MDC leaders were "busy enjoying themselves and forgetting why they were in the GNU," as SADC later said; many Zimbabweans continued to be MDC's cheer leaders! Only very few people dared to remind MDC leaders to implement the reforms.
ReplyDeleteAfter five years of the GNU MDC failed to get even one reform implemented. When the country went on to contest the 2013 elections, again many people cheer Tsvangirai and company along. There is no doubt that many Zimbabweans out there must today hang their heads in shame for their part in the country's failure to implement the reforms and then in contesting flawed elections regardless.
These organisations such as Church or human rights one which purportedly care about the ordinary people's basic rights should be more careful about representing the common interest and not go with the crowd particularly when there is so much at stake. It would be unforgivable if the same organisations blunder yet again on the same issue of elections and cheer the opposition along as they contest yet another flawed elections.
Any civic body and NGO worth their salt cannot once again support the contesting of the 2018 elections with no reforms in place. And they should come out of the closet now and nail their colours on the mast now when there still time to stop the opposition betray the people yet again. The coalition will do nothing to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections and that is what matters here!
@ Zunzanyika
ReplyDeleteMDC leaders were warned by SADC leaders not to contest the 2013 election without implementing the reforms designed to stop Zanu PF rigging the vote. Tsvangirai lied to the people and told them the elections would be free and fair and MDC will win. We both know that did not happen. It is the ordinary people of Zimbabwe who have paid dearly for this. Zimbabweans are now the poorest people in Africa!
Tsvangirai and his MDC friends proved that they were corrupt and incompetent by failing to get even one reform implemented during the GNU and the compounded the betrayal by contesting elections they knew were going to be rigged but lied about it. These are historic facts but, of course, you are free to deny them or even claim that acknowledging is insulting Tsvangirai.
Tsvangirai and his MDC friends resolved not to contest elections without implemented the reforms first. I am going to hold them to account on that!
Mai Mujuru was in Zanu PF for 34 years and you tell me what she has ever done done other than play her part in creating the corrupt and tyrannical dictatorship and take her share of the loot! With a CV like that one she is a candidate for Chikurumbi and not State House!
The next elections should be about delivering political change and not giving a few opposition politicians a chance to win a seat on the gravy train. We all know that is why these individual are contesting the flawed elections. You can cheer for that I am not going to voice my objection.
The people of Zimbabwe have a right to free, fair and credible elections and it is a feeble excuse to say that they have to be disappoint again because it is 15 months before the next elections - not enough time to implement the reforms. They have been denying their freedoms and rights all these last 37 years and it will be foolish for them to accept another disappointment.
The elections must be postponed until the reforms are implemented. After all any government produced by anything short of a free, fair and credible election is NOT the kind of government the nation is looking for!
The holding of the next elections with no reforms is not a given; 15 months is a long time. Even if the elections go ahead the illegitimate regime to emerge will have a fight in its hands. Not even Mugabe saw the GNU of 2008 coming, that is what illegitimate regimes can expert!
@ Rosemary Stone
ReplyDeleteRosemary Tsvangirai did a great job discrediting himself by failing to get even one single reform implemented in five years of the GNU. Mugabe paid him and paid him well for kicking the reforms into the tall grass; he got to gallivant around the globe, get a generous salary and allowance, etc., and most valuable of all got the $4 million Highland mansion.
The really losers here are the ordinary people of Zimbabwe who risked life and limp, hundreds of thousands were beaten or raped and over 500 murdered in 2008 alone, to vote Tsvangirai into power on the believe that MDC will deliver democratic reforms. MDC leaders got into power they sold out as we know.
Just because the majority of Zimbabweans out there do not understand what happened it and therefore have failed to hold MDC leaders to account does not mean they did nothing wrong much less they should be allowed to get away with it even less that they should be allowed to betray the people again by contesting yet another flawed elections.
I am here to hold politicians to account and to stop the nation being dragged into yet another flawed election.
The people of Zimbabwe have been short changed all their lives and it is about time that stopped! The next elections must be free, fair and credible and nothing, absolutely nothing short of that will do! Nothing! Enough of this nonsense!
By failing to implement the reforms MDC leaders have condemned the whole nation to Zanu PF misrule and the unemployment and the poverty that comes with the regime. All that is ok for you is it? Well it is not ok for the millions on the coal face of it all!
PDP accuse on VOA Ncube of “being selfish and selling out on CODE by entering into separate coalition negotiations with Morgan Tsvangirai”
ReplyDeleteWhy are all these opposition politicians preparing to contest next year's elections although it is clear not even democratic reform was implemented since the July 2013 rigged elections? Some of them are on public record saying they would not contest any future elections without get the democratic reforms in place first. Why are they making a u-turn on this now?
The opposition parties ignored SADC's warning not to contest the 2013 elections with no reforms in place with the disastrous consequences of allowing Zanu PF back into power. We know they ignored the warning because they wanted to fight over the bait gravy train seats Zanu PF gives away. We are not going to let the opposition politicians sell-out again on the national agenda of boycotting elections until reforms are implemented.
Grace Mugabe has stepped in to stop a highlevel Zanu PF investigation of Saviour Kasukuwere’s activities. He is accused of plotting to seize power from Mugabe.
ReplyDeleteTalk of playing the fiddle whilst Rome burns; Zimbabweans are now the poorest people in Africa and those in public office to manage the public affairs are busy looting and fighting each other over the spoils! This is a nightmare that is set to get worse and it is about time that men and women of good will step up and put an end to the madness!
Ms Khupe’s faction is rabidly opposed to the coalition and she did not attend any of the MOU signing ceremonies.
ReplyDeleteIt is not only Khupe who will stand to lose if the coalition with all these briefcase opposition parties goes through because each would want MDC-T candidates to step aside to allow their members to stand in a number of constituencies where their support is tiny and their win will be totally dependent on MDC-T supporters voting for them.
Zimbabwe's civic society needs some serious growing if they are ever going to be useful to the nation because, so far, they are either pro-Zanu PF or pro-opposition to the point of being utterly useless. Even well established NGOs which used to be respected have long since been so serious compromised they just repeat whatever Zanu PF or MDC have said.
ReplyDeleteIt would be useful if human rights activists like Dr Patson Dzamara showed some guts and said what they real think - assuming they are capable of such noble things - without having to always stop to consider what Morgan Tsvangirai would want them to say. It hard to believed that Patson’s brother, Itai Dzamara, would have called for Zanu PF leaders to resign one week and then embraced Joice Mujuru the next just because she has just been booted out of Zanu PF!
Former MDC politicians cannot accuse SA or SADC of siding with President Mugabe whilst he destroyed the Zimbabwe economy because it was the MDC leaders themselves who failed to get even one reform implemented in five years of the GNU. If the reforms were implemented Zanu PF would not have rigged the elections and we would be working our way out of this mess by now!
ReplyDeleteSADC leaders warned Tsvangirai & co. to implement reforms and then not to contest 2013 elections with no reforms but their warn fell on deaf ears. These MDC leaders should wash the foul mouths with bleach!
