"It
was Thomas Jefferson who said that the tree of liberty must be refreshed from
time to time with the blood of patriots. It therefore can never be refreshed by
continuous false hope and non-action as is the case in Zimbabwe. I, however,
truly believe that the idea of freedom can indeed be circumvented but it can
never be forsaken," wrote Vince Musewe.
So with over 30 000 Zimbabweans murdered and millions beaten in
politically motivated violence in the last 35 years, Comrade Musewe is still calling
for more blood of patriots to refresh Zimbabwe’s tree of liberty. He is
demanding more Zimbabweans to come forward like lambs to the slaughter; they
are not because they are “not yet hungry enough for total freedom”!
Did the nation not go to war for peace and justice too?
Only someone who is cavalier about the suffering and unnecessary deaths
of the ordinary people would not be concerned with Zimbabwe’s very corrupt and oppressive
political system. Instead of seeking to eradicate the evil political system,
which is what the implementation of the GPA reforms will accomplish; Vince is
seeking to keep the dictatorship and feed the monster the human misery and
deaths. To him, the people are nothing more than cannon fodder!
It would be heart-breaking if Zanu PF rigged the next elections to win enough
seats to play a disruptive role in the next government or, worse still, to power
outright. As long as Zanu PF remains in power, even as the official opposition
party, it hard to see the country implementing the far reaching political reforms
necessary for economic reform and recovery. The real nightmare scenario would
be for the nightmare violence of 2008 to comeback!
If the murderous violence of 2008 are repeated then Vince Musewe, Morgan
Tsvangirai and the rest, who have wanted the elections with no reform, will
have to explain to the victims of the violence and/or their relatives why they
have had to suffer. And when will their tree of liberty’s thirst for blood of
the innocents be quenched so the GPA reforms can finally, FINALLY be
implemented!
Vince Musewe has given to reason
why the nation should not implement the comprehensive GPA reforms other than he
is confident he can achieve the removal of Mugabe, at least without reforms
provided enough Zimbabweans’ hunger for total freedom forces them to risk life
and limp in their millions!
If you read between the lines Vince Musewe (and many like-minded) does not want the State President’s dictatorial powers removed and the dictatorship dismantled because he is cock sure his Morgan Tsvangirai (or is it Joice Mujuru) will never use the dictatorial powers. We have heard this one before.
ReplyDeleteThe late Eddison Zvobgo was, without doubt one of the cleverest Zimbabweans of his generation, sadly he too succumbed is greed just as readily as the empty heads like Simon Muzendas or Sydney Sekeramais of this world. It was Zvobgo who crafted the constitutional amendments that gave Mugabe his dictatorial powers. When Zvobgo was quizzed on this very point he defended it with his usual passion – with neck muscles and tendons stretched and taut like stays holding down an overfilled hot-air balloon – he argued that Robert Mugabe will never ever use the dictatorial powers unless it is absolutely necessary for the good of the nation.
Zvobgo had his beady eyes on becoming the next president (Musewe has the same ambitions) and he wanted those dictatorial powers for himself.
As soon as Mugabe got his dictatorial powers one of the first people to feel those powers was none other than Eddison Zvobgo, himself. Mugabe appointed him minister without portfolio in the president’s office to watch and frustrate him.
Out of sheer frustration Zvobgo compared Mugabe to a madman in a relay, instead of running his allocated 100 m or whatever and handing the baton to the next run ran into the mountain with the baton! True, but least we forget it was Zvobgo’s hot head that had strained the neck muscles defending the dictatorial powers to Mugabe!
Musewe is hoping he will fare better than the late Eddison Zvobgo.
As far as the people are concerned it is foolish to grant anyone dictatorial powers. If a given individual will never use those powers throughout their time in office then why does he/she need these powers? Scrap these powers because the good leaders do not need them and, without doubt, the bad leaders will use these dictatorial powers.
Laws are there to protect the weak and law abiding from those strong and powerful who consider the law an inconvenience. If the law is weak, as is the case when the constitution grants those is power dictatorial powers, woe to the weak and law abiding citizens because without the protection of the law they are in for a rough ride!
If the weak and law abiding should get an opportunity to change the law and remove the dictatorial powers grant to the state president they would be foolish to waste this opportunity content with removing the seating tyrant on the mistaken belief that all future presidents will never use the dictatorial powers.
Granting Mugabe dictatorial powers was like allowing a cobra to live in one's house on the off chance that someday rats bigger than a cat would evolve and one would be glad they have the deadly snake to deal with the giant rats. Only a fool would expose himself and his family to such deadly snake danger especially he could easily trap or shoot the cat-chasing giant rats!

ReplyDelete“It is naïve and foolish for anyone to think that there is any Zimbabwean who does not need reforms as a route to full democracy and freedom,” you said.
Well coming from you Mukanya that is real progress; the penny has finally dropped that we need the 2008 GPA reforms to be implemented for “full democracy and freedom”.
Well let us develop this before you brain goes to sleep (we know how long it takes to wake you up again”.
So can we conclude that Tsvangirai and his MDC friends knew and understood the need for reforms back in 2008; after all Tsvangirai is one of the three party leaders who signed the 2008 GPA. Now please explain to me why not even one reform was implemented at the end of the five years of the GNU?
My understanding is that Mugabe bribe Tsvangirai at el with the gravy train lifestyles plus the $4 million Highlands mansion for Tsvangirai to do nothing about the reforms and so not even one reform saw the light of day. In other words MDC leaders sold-out just as Mugabe, Mujuru and all the other Zanu PF thugs sold-out in denying the people the basic freedoms and rights including the right to free and fair elections and the right to life itself!
Would you agree that after failing to get even one reform implemented Tsvangirai and his MDC friend have proven to be breathtakingly corrupt and incompetent and therefore are not suitable leaders to be elected into public office. Well I think so and what is more I am making it clear here and now, in case you have failed to get the message in the past, that Tsvangirai and his MDC friends must apologize for selling out during the GNU and then resign from public life!
Getting the GPA reforms implement now is not going to be easy, it was easier during the GNU when Mugabe had his hands tied by the GPA. Still it can be done but first we must make sure we have quality opposition leaders and not corrupt and incompetent ones.
@ Mukanya
ReplyDeleteAnd you think you are in touch with the problem at hand by blindly supporting a corrupt and incompetent leader? The dictator Mugabe is still in power today because we made the mistake of electing corrupt and incompetent MDC leaders to implement the reforms necessary for free and fair elections.
President Mugabe was able to bribe and bamboozle Tsvangirai and his MDC friends into doing nothing about the reforms. So after five years of the GNU, not even one reform was implemented.
You in your infinite stupidity would like to elect the same corrupt and incompetent MDC leaders to implement the same reforms. Tsvangirai has already said he is implementing some other reforms which will not deliver free and fair elections. Still you think the MDC leader will deliver free and fair elections regardless! Your stupidity is truly amazing!
@ Mudhara
ReplyDeleteOf course Vince is entitle to his opinion and like all of us he would like the rest of us "to think his way". Having expressed his opinion he must also accept that not everyone would agree with him and be told so in no uncertain terms especially if his opinion is hogwash as is the case here.
He has accepted that if we implement the comprehensive reforms we will have free, fair and credible elections. He is not interested in implementing the reforms however because he has nothing against a repeat of the 2008 violence and vote rigging to him any shed innocent blood is "patriots blood watering the tree of liberty"! If that is not hogwash then you tell what is!
@ Mudhara
DeleteStop talking about corruption, indigenisation and all the other stuff and keep you eyes on implementing GPA reforms.
Vince Musewe has finally admitted implementing comprehensive reforms will deliver free, fair and credible elections but will not pursue the implementation of the reforms with the focus and intensity they deserve because Mugabe will not implement them. It would be "suicidal" for the tyrant to implement the reforms because he will never win free and fair elections.
People like Musewe's commitment to implementing the reforms has always been a half-hearted affair at best, if you understand that and then you will see the full picture. These people want the dictator removed but not the dictatorship because they fancy themselves as the next regime and they would want absolute power for themselves. They will argue until the cows come home that their dictatorship will be a benevolent one.
During the GNU Mugabe's hands were tied by the GPA and SADC was on MDC's face urging them to implement the reforms; we certainly had our golden chance to get all the reforms implemented then. Where was Vince Musewe then and, more significantly, where is he as regards the GNU failures?
There can be no doubt that in failing to get even one single reform implemented in five years of the GNU Tsvangirai at el proved beyond doubt that they are breathtakingly corrupt and incompetent. By proposing Tsvangirai as a candidate to hold public office much less the office of the State President Musewe showed that he either failed to comprehend Tsvangirai for the corrupt and incompetent idiot he is or else Musewe comprehending this but did not care. As far as I am concerned either way he showed himself to be just another village idiot!
By the way just because you have your own ideology and believe in democracy does not mean you are above being fooled by a village idiot! You should open your eyes and mind and let reason and logic be your only trusted guardians.
