MDC admit Zim will still have no free media after launch of 12 digital TV channels - new constitution is too weak. By P Guramatunhu

Many Zimbabweans have long since (since the rigged July 2013 elections at the latest) come to the sad conclusion that MDC leaders are breathtakingly corrupt and incompetent and therefore they continued presence on national political stage will be only to confuse the electorate, at best. Here is just one more example MDC’s breath-taking incompetence and how dearly the nation is paying for it!

“Freedom of expression and freedom of the media are part and parcel of fundamental human rights and freedoms that are protected under Section 61 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe. Indeed, every person has the right to freedom of expression,” wrote MDC-T spokesman, Obert Gutu.

“It is frightening and indeed,” continued Gutu “very depressing news to learn that the ZBC, a public broadcaster that has, over the years, hopelessly and dismally failed to operate as a genuine and non-partisan national broadcaster, has already been allocated half of the twelve(12) additional channels without going to an open public tender. We strongly suspect that the Zanu PF regime is already playing its usual games of ensuring that the electronic media is rigidly and tightly controlled and monitored to ensure that only the views and policies of the faction-ridden and disintegrating Zanu PF political party dominate the local airwaves.”

In short Gutu himself admits that Section 61 of the 2013 constitution MDC promised the nation would deliver all our freedoms and basic human rights will not stop Zanu PF denying us a free media and freedom of expression.

Zimbabwe’s 2008 GNU was supposed to last 18 months, in the end it lasted 60 months, FIVE YEARS, and still MDC failed to get even one democratic reform implemented. They wasted $100 million to produce a weak and feeble constitution even they now admit will never deliver any of our democratic freedoms and rights.

The continued presence on the political stage of failed leaders like Obert Gutu, issuing statements of contrived indignation is a sick joke.

“The world over, dictatorial regimes abhor genuine media freedom,” said Gutu. If you really cared about that then why did you not implement the reforms and dismantle the dictatorship?

After the rigged July 2013 elections MDC lost all political credibility with SADC leaders and the international community.

MDC leaders have proven beyond all reasonable doubt that they are corrupt and incompetent, and are therefore unfit to hold public office. By failing to show the corrupt and incompetent MDC leaders the exit door we, the Zimbabwean people, are telling the world we are not yet serious about ending the Zanu PF dictatorship. If we were serious then we would not allow breathtakingly corrupt and incompetent leaders, who have a proven track record of blundering failure, still speak on our behalf?

  1. This is a regime that has used brutal force and fear as weapons in its reign of terror. As the regime feels power slipping away it is going to resort to the use of these weapons more and more! That is not going to stop the tsunami caused by the worsening economic situation that is now sweeping the nation and forcing change. Change is coming and it is now unstoppable!

When change finally comes, woe to those whose hands will be dripping blood of the innocent!

  2. Sadly the law in Zimbabwe has always been what President Mugabe says it is on the day, if he should say the opposite tomorrow and everyone has to adjust according. Look what he did to elbow Mnangagwa out of the way to elect Mujuru in 2004, ten years later he ignore the female quota system and now he wants it reintroduced.

As for the security chiefs, President Mugabe has toyed with them in much the same way a little boy will play with his toy soldiers. Few Zimbabweans will ever be renowned for their ability to think for themselves sadly this is so right across the board, even more so in the security services where promotion has been on the basis of how stupid the individual is! You should meet people like Douglas Nyikayaramba or Chiwenga and you will know exactly what I mean!

It should be said that what the security chiefs said would have not mattered one bit if MDC had implemented the democratic reforms during the GNU. So you see, it is not only Zanu PF that is full of village idiots MDC too is full of village idiots. We do have more than our fair share of village idiots!

  3. @ Mudhara
For once I agree with you 90%; Mujuru and others are corrupt and incompetent and they will be a continuation of the present corrupt and oppressive system.

You should not forget that Tsvangirai and the MDC leaders are corrupt and incompetent too.

What we need is to implement the reforms MDC failed to implement during the GNU. A democratic Zimbabwe will allow competent men and women to emerge as leaders to replace the deadwood the present dictatorship has produced.

Implement the reforms and the rest will fall into place like pieces of a jigsaw puzzles!

  4. You are assuming, wrongly, that Tsvangirai is not corrupt and incompetent! Of course all MDC leaders are corrupt and incompetent and we are not interested in who is worse than the others - this is not a beauty contest!

You are right PF are looters and murderers!
