Murder of Moreblessing renew SADC demand for reforms before elections - will CCC finally heed W Mukori

The cold blooded murdered of Moreblessing Ali, a Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activist, has touched a raw nerve because of its sheer audacity, barbarism and cold indifference on the part of the Police and the Zanu PF government.

Moreblessing was attached and abducted on 24 May 2022 by suspected Zanu PF supporters round 8pm near Chimbanguza Night Club, Nyatsime, in Chitugwiza, a dormitory high-density suburb outside Harare. Many people witnessed the incident and raised the alarm and reported to the local Police.

The Police have never interviewed much less arrest the named Zanu PF suspects. This is a very common thing in Zimbabwe, Zanu PF thugs are above the law and commit very serious crime with impunity.

A week after Moreblessing’s disappearance her body was found in a well at the house of a Zanu PF official’s mother’s home in Nyatsime. The body had been hacked in two at the waist. Her internal organs had to be scooped into a plastic bag!

Today, three days since the discovery of the body, still no one has been arrested. No Zanu PF government official has said a word!

Indeed, Zanu PF supporters in the area have taken it upon themselves to harass CCC supporters who had gathered to mourn one of their own.

“CCC supporters Tuesday afternoon burnt down a home belonging to a Zanu-PF district chairperson only identified as Murambatsvina, who is said to have been one of those barring them from mourning their slain colleague Moreblessing Ali at her Nyatsime home,” reported Bulawayo 24.

“Murambatsvina's house was torched by the riotous supporters who had been angered by Zanu-PF's hard-line stance not to allow them at Ali's home and by ruling party councillor Masimbi Masimbi's decision to bar them from mourning her in his ward.”

In another video CCC are shown singing “Hondo! Hondo!” (War! War!)

This is one war Zanu PF will emerge as the winner, guaranteed! The CCC supporters have no snow-ball chance in hell of winning given Zanu PF thugs have the backing of the Zanu PF state machinery behind them. Usually, the Police will hunt down all those involved in the burning down of the house and the Courts will punish them and meanwhile the coldblooded murders of Moreblessing remain untouched. They are the untouchables!

In June 2013 SADC leaders wanted that year’s Zimbabwe elections to be postponed until some democratic reforms to stop the blatant cheating and wanton violence that had marred the 2008 elections being repeated.

“In 2013 the Maputo Summit, in June 2013, before the elections, the Maputo Summit was all about having the elections postponed – the SADC summit. I went there,” Dr Ibbo Mandaza told Journalist Violet Gonda.

“I was there at the Summit and Mugabe pretended to agree to a postponement of the elections. If you recall, the postponement was based on the need to reform at least electoral laws.

“And after that Summit, Morgan Tsvangirai, Tendai Biti, Welshman Ncube, all of them were called to a separate meeting by the Heads of State of SADC in the absence of Mugabe, that same evening. And they were told; I was sitting there outside the room with Mac Maharaj; they were told ‘if you go into elections next month, you are going to lose; the elections are done’.”

As we already know, Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC colleagues ignored SADC leaders’ warning and participated in the 2013 and 2018, five years later, elections with no reforms in place. Zanu PF went on to blatantly rig those elections as SADC leaders had predicted.

The blatant cheating was enough to secure a landslide victory for Zanu PF in both 2013 and 2018 and so the nation was spared the wanton violence. After 42 years of rigged elections and with the country’s economy in ruins and over 50% of the population now living in abject poverty; it is not surprising the nation is desperate for meaning change.

So, desperate “the people will vote for a donkey if the choice was Mnangagwa and the donkey!” to paraphrase Professor Jonathan Moyo’s comment when Mugabe went on to lose to Morgan Tsvangirai’s 73% in the March 2008 vote. Zanu PF had resorted to blatant cheating to stop Tsvangirai claiming the presidency and then to the wanton violence in the run-off to reclaim the party’s dominance.

Zanu PF has stepped up the blatant cheating with the regime denying 3 million Zimbabweans in the diaspora the vote, ZEC will once again failed to produce a verified voters’ roll, the party is extending its allowance to the war veterans and traditional leaders who will frog march the ordinary people to vote for Zanu PF vote, etc. Clearly, this is not enough given the nation is restless for regime change.

Moreblessing Ali is the third opposition supporter to be murdered in cold blood since October last year in what is clearly a rerun of the wanton violence of 2008! The wanton violence is set to increase the more Zanu PF feels it iron hold on power threatened.

“The ‘new’ regime can be viewed from different angles, but the nub of it is this: there’s a recognition that the economic fiasco of the last 20 years was suboptimal, but Emmerson Mnangagwa and his fellow travellers will burn the house down if they feel it necessary. Make no mistake, their will to power is every bit as intense as Mugabe’s—as is their belief that they own the country’s choicest fruits by right of conquest,” wrote Stuart Doran.

“There’s no comprehending Zimbabwe without an appreciation of that mentality. Yet many fail to get it because they don’t read the country’s history. In 1979, at the height of the struggle against white rule, a diplomat who mixed frequently with Mugabe and other leaders of his party observed that ‘ZANU does not seem to attach much importance to the destruction caused by prolonged war’. They said they were content to see Zimbabwe ‘totally’ demolished if that was the price to be paid for preventing others from ruling it. That attitude has not changed an iota, notwithstanding the passage of 40 years and Mugabe’s departure. After all, the men who now rule wielded his hatchets for most of that period.

(To see Stuart Doran’s article in aspistrategist.org.au)

The tragic events of the last 42 years make it clear that Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF believe they have right to rule Zimbabwe regardless of the overwhelming evidence their rule was brought economic ruin and untold human suffering. Their warped mentality to burn down the country rather than see anyone else rule sticks at the very heart every Zimbabwean’s right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country, the very essence of democracy and good governance.

We cannot restore the right of every Zimbabwean to a meaningful say in the governance of the country without implementing the democratic reforms designed to dismantle the Zanu PF dictatorship. This is why it did not make any sense for MDC to ignore SADC’s advice to implement reforms during the GNU and not to participate in the elections without reforms.

MDC leaders (CCC is nothing but MDC rebranded, same leaders new political name) have all but given up the fight to implement reforms since the sold out by failing to get even one reform implemented during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. Since the GNU debacle they have insisted on participating in the flawed elections claiming they have “winning in rigged elections” strategies. This is more than an oxymoron; the notion subscribes to the Zanu PF ethos of the party having the “right” to rig elections!

So, in their own moronic way CCC leaders do not care about restoring the people’s right to free and fair elections. All they care about is power and hence the reason they failed to implement even one reforms during the GNU when they had the golden opportunity to do so.

Some people have argued MDC leaders did not implement any reforms because Zanu PF would have disregarded the reforms anywhere. This is just a feeble excuse that must be dismissed with the contempt it rightly deserves.

The lord God was not under any illusions that giving Moses the Ten Commandments would rid the world of the sinners for all times! Of course, there are still sinners but there would be a lot more sinners without the Commandments and the guarantee no sin will go unpunished since the Lord God sees everything we mortals do!

To suggest that Zanu PF’s strangle hold on the nation cannot be broken by implementing democratic reforms is nonsense. The Zanu PF dictatorship is the handwork of mortals and per se can be dismantle by mere mortals too.

Now with Zanu PF blatantly cheating and using wanton violence to rig elections everyone with a brain will join SADC leaders in calling on CCC and the rest of the opposition not to participate in the 2023 elections until reforms to stop Zanu PF cheating and using violence are implemented.

The cold-blooded murder of Moreblessing Ali confirms that Zanu PF will rather burn down the country than hold free, fair and credible elections. How many more innocent Zimbabweans must be murdered in wanton political violence before Chamisa and company finally heed the call for reforms before elections.

  1. If it is true that CCC supporters are the ones who torched the Zanu PF supporter’s house, then this was a foolish thing to do. For only a fool will pick up a fight he is certain to lose especially when he had the option of fight on more favourable terms. CCC supporters are not just fighting Zanu PF thugs but the whole state machinery too because the party has captured all the state institutions.
MDC/CCC leaders have failed to implement even one reform in 22 years, 5 of which in the GNU, which would have freed the Police, ZEC, etc. to carry out their duties of maintaining law and order, ensuring free and fair elections, etc. without fear or favour. Mugabe bribed the MDC leaders during the GNU with the trappings of high office and, with their snout in the feeding trough, they forgot about the reforms.
Without implementing the reforms Zanu PF will always have the carte blanche power to rig elections and use violence to achieve its objectives. The real front to take on Zanu PF is forcing the regime to implement reforms by having the disciple to refuse to participate in the flawed elections.
MDC/CCC leaders not only sold out by failing to implement the reforms but worse still they are the ones insisting on participating in the flawed elections out of greed. The CCC supporters must fight their own leaders for betraying them on reforms and have the reforms finally implemented then and only then take on Zanu PF thugs head on in free, fair and credible elections!

  2. Chamisa continued; “Do not be provoked into violence; they are trying hard to provoke us into violence. No violence, we are a peace team.
“Do not be threatened; we will overcome. We know that violence does not build a nation, it cannot save a generation.
“We have a duty to promote peace as they promote darkness and violence; we have a duty to resist the temptation to drive this country into anarchy because that is what they want.
“We are not far from victory, and we know these are last kicks of a dying horse.”
The nation should not be wasting time, human and material resources fighting for something as basic as a right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country. And yet 42 years after independence that is exactly what the nation is doing and is nowhere near resolving the matter.
Zanu PF has murdered many innocent people to establish and retain this de facto one-party dictatorship. The nation has had many chances to end the dictatorship the best chances coming during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. MDC leaders have failed to implement even one reform in 22 years, 5 of which in the GNU. And ever since the GNU debacle MDC/CCC have been participating in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy and thus perpetuating the dictatorship.
Zimbabweans are suffering because the nation has had the great misfortune of have corrupt, incompetent and utterly useless leaders for the last 42 years and counting!

  3. Writing on Twitter, Chamisa said, "I will say over and over again. And let me say it again. We will WIN any free and fair election in ZIMBABWE. We're the next government. Peace is the default setting of all winners. Violence is the DNA & language of losers not winners. Winners & leaders don't disturb peace."

This is nauseating in its sheer stupidity! Yes the opposition will win the 2023 elections if the elections were free, fair and credible. After 42 years of rigged elections it is shocking that any one should still pretend the 2023 elections are going to be free and fair. It is infuriating that Chamisa and his MDC/CCC friends had the golden opportunity to implement the democratic reforms and thus guarantee free and fair elections and they failed to get even one reform implemented in five years of the 2008 to 2013 GNU.

Indeed, by participating in these flawed elections it is MDC/CCC who are giving Zanu PF legitimacy and thus perpetuating the dictatorship and, more significantly, the suffering of the ordinary people.

It is sad that all Chamisa cares about his delusion of holding high office and is blind to the reality that he must first stop Zanu rigging elections much less that his blundering incompetence and greed is helping Zanu PF stay in power. Having a corrupt and incompetent opposition is now a curse to the nation equal to that of having Zanu PF itself! CCC is ready to govern, indeed!

  4. ZANU PF Vice President Kembo Mohadi has called on Traditional leaders to come out and help ZANU PF raise 5 million votes for President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Mohadi was speaking in Gutu where he addressed headmen and confided in them that the party does not have 3.6 million that the structures claim to have.

He further added that the National Cell day exposed that ZANU PF does not have the numbers. He said in some areas cells do not exist while in other areas the cells exist but do not have the required numbers to form a cell.

The most telling thing Mohadi said was how the white colonial regimes had bribed the traditional leaders with meaningless token of power and wealth and used them to collect all manner taxes designed to impoverish the blacks and force them to work for the whites for poor wages. Zanu PF was now using the same dirty tactic to bribe the traditional leaders so that they coerce the ordinary people to join the party and, come elections, vote for the party.

The gathered Headmen, Chiefs, etc. were told they would receive motorbikes for Headmen, twin-cab trucks for chiefs plus many other allowances to entice them to do Zanu PF’s dirty bidding. Of course, they know they are being paid to deny the people their fundamental right to free, fair and credible elections; the very essence of good governance and the nation’s ticket out of the economic and political mess we are in.

The role of the traditional leaders in helping the white colonial regimes oppress the people made these institutions redundant post-independence. Now we can see why Zanu PF retained these institutions. Why we will need these corrupt headman, chiefs, etc. post-Zanu PF dictatorship beggars belief!

  5. The spokesperson of the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party, Fadzayi Mahere, has reported that there is a party member whose home, car and shop were burnt on Tuesday in the Nyatsime area in Chitungwiza.
Mahere said the incident happened following a memorial service for the slain Moreblessing Ali, a CCC activist who was kidnapped on the 24th of May and was found dead in a well on the 11th of June. Her body was found chopped into pieces
During the Palestinian Intifada it was the Israeli government’s policy to punish those around Yasser Arafat, the leader of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO); leaving him untouched. At one point all the homes around his home were destroyed leaving his house standing, an island in the middle of the sea of ruins!
Zanu PF needs Nelson Chamisa and the other CCC leaders to participate in these flawed and increasingly blood thirst elections for the regime to get political legitimacy. And so the violence will be directed at the ordinary Zimbabweans and CCC supporters leaving Chamisa and the other CCC top leaders untouched. Zanu PF will allow the opposition to win a few gravy train seats, notably in urban centres to entice the opposition to participate regardless how flawed and illegal the process gets.
President Mnangagwa created POLAD, a political body to reward those who participated in the 2018 presidential race and endorsed the election as free and fair and his legitimacy. The body has no political power nor any other purpose.
As long as the opposition leaders remain assured of their own safety and of winning the few gravy train seats Chamisa and company will participate in these flawed and violent elections. It is this assurance that gives Zanu PF the confidence to defy calls for reforms and to continue to blatantly rig elections.

  6. Ali went missing on 24 May after she was allegedly attacked and abducted by suspected Zanu PF thugs.
She was found dead on 11 June
Addressing party supporters during a memorial prayer in Nyatsime at Ali’s homestead, Chamisa said Mnangagwa’s silence shows he is responsible, and the 2023 election is going to be violent.
“There is no doubt Moreblessing was killed, there is no doubt who killed her, there is no doubt it is politically motivated.
“This is a very bad indication of the election in 2023. It tells you that the darkness of violence and dark clouds are gathering.
“We are writing to SADC to help us because if we start retaliating it will not end well,” Chamisa said.
It was SADC that forced Zanu PF to agree to the need to implement the raft of democratic reforms in 2008 and the GNU was tasked to implement the reforms. Nelson Chamisa and his MDC friends failed to implement even one reform in 5 years. SADC leaders literally begged MDC leaders not to participate in the 2013 elections without reforms and Chamisa and company ignore the regional leaders.
The call for reforms before elections is more relevant now than ever before. Zanu PF will never stop the vote rigging and wanton violence as long as the party knows that the opposition will participate in the flawed elections giving them political legitimacy. The best advice SADC leaders can give Chamisa and company is don’t participate in the 2023 elections until all reforms are implemented. Indeed, that is self-evident!
Chamisa and company are hell bent on participating in the 2023 elections for the same reasons the participated in the past and failed to implement reforms during the GNU – greed and breath-taking incompetence! SADC leaders can repeat their 2013 advice but once again it will fall on deaf ears.

  7. A MASS Public Opinion Institute (MPOI) survey has predicted that President Emmerson Mnangagwa stands no chance against opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa if elections were to be held today.

According to the MPOI Afrobarometer round nine survey released yesterday, 33% of the respondents said they would vote for the CCC leader against 30% who vouched for Mnangagwa.

Zanu-PF, which has in the past applauded MPOI's surveys, yesterday dismissed the latest survey as "straw polls".

"I do not comment on straw polls," Zanu-PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa said.
Afrobarometer’s survey are bases on the assumption that Zimbabwe elections are free, fair and credible. The results are therefore meaningless since Zimbabwean elections are not free and fair. Zanu PF is blatantly rigging these elections. The regime has failed to produce something as basic as a verified voters’ roll for Pete’s. How the elections be free and fair when only the ruling party cherry picks who is on the voters’ roll, how many times they vote, etc. Why Afrobarometer has repeatedly chosen to ignore all the evidence that Zimbabwe elections are a farce beggars belief.
MDC has failed to implement even one reform to stop Zanu PF rigging elections in 22 years, 5 of which in the 2008 to 2013 GNU. Ever since the GNU debacle the party has participating in flawed elections claiming it has “winning in rigged elections strategies”! Needless to say none of the strategies have worked, it is all hot air.
It is heart-breaking that instead of demanding reforms and restore the rule of law and the individual freedoms and rights the nation has accept Zanu PF rigging as fait accompli and our new goal is to try to win rigged election! Meaningless poll results from bodies like Afrobarometer only blinds Chamisa and his naïve supporters to the reality Zanu PF is rigging the elections and that winning in rigged elections is an oxymoron!
Chamisa and co will not admit Zanu PF is rigging these elections to win with a landslide; they will do not the day after the voting when the damage is done since their participation will have secured Zanu PF's legitimacy. We are stuck with not just the corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF but also with the corrupt opposition which is giving the regime legitimacy!

  8. THE Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) has failed to release the 2018 provisional voters' roll to an independent think-tank, the Election Resource Centre (ERC), thereby flouting a High Court order, while betraying its insincerity in availing the voter register for audit.

The ERC has been continually writing to Zec, requesting the voters' roll, but in vain.

The 2018 High Court order read by The NewsHawks shows that Zec was directed to furnish the ERC with the provisional voters' roll that it used for the inspection exercise in the period of 19-29 May 2018.

"For the avoidance of doubt, the reasonable period within which the respondent should furnish the applicant with the copy of the Provisional Voters' Roll as per this order is hereby determined to be no more than five working days following payment of the prescribed fees," read part of the ruling on the High Court order dated 14 June 2018.
While chief elections officer Utloile Silaigwana said in a statement dated 28 May 2022 that the commission "will always make available copies of the voters' roll upon request in accordance with the Electoral Act", the ERC says efforts to get a copy have continually hit a brick wall.

"The voters' roll is also a public document which, in any case, should also be available," says Solomon Bobosibunu, the ERC programmes manager.
ZEC has never produced a verified voters’ roll since the country’s independence in 1980. Without a verified voters’ roll, the ruling party can cherry pick who is on the voters’ roll, who gets to vote and how many times, etc. Having total control over the whole voting process gives Zanu PF many opportunities to rig the elections and it is clear the party is not going to give up these powers.
Only by implementing the wide-ranging democratic reforms can the nation have a truly independent ZEC, Police, judiciary, etc. It tragic that it is none other than the corrupt and incompetent MDC/CCC leaders who not only sold out by failing to implement even one reform in 22 years but are the ones insisting on participating in flawed elections to give Zanu PF legitimacy! The situation is made worse by the fact that the ordinary people are ignorant and naïve to realise Chamisa and company are sell outs!

Ignorance is a curse worse than death especially when it is self inflicted. Decades, generations of mental inactivity has ossified our people's brain into fat; they are incapable of rational thinking!

  9. @ Nyoni Nyoni

It is worth noting that ZEC has never produced a verified voters' roll and will not produce one for the 2023 elections.

It is also worth noting that the opposition has known about ZEC's failure to produce a verified voters' roll and have still participated in the flawed elections regardless out of greed. Zanu PF has offered a few gravy train seats to entice the opposition to participate regardless how flawed and illegal the process got. Mnangagwa has since added POLAD to reward all those who contested in the 2018 presidential election and endorsed the process as free, fair and credible!
Chamisa and the rest in the opposition camp will contest the 2023 with no verified voters’ roll and knowing, as we already do, that Zanu PF is blatantly rigging these elections!

  10. The CiZC chairperson also articulated the Zimbabwean story through interviews with various media houses in the neighbouring country.

Beside emphasising on electoral and media reforms, Mutasa emphasised the need for inclusive dialogue and political will to implement governance reform to bring sanity to the socio-economic and political status of Zimbabwe.

There is need for the Southern African Development Community to intervene in the Zimbabwean crises before it goes out of hand.
The trouble with some people is they have a very poor memory. “Vanokanganwa chezuro nehope!” (They forget yesterday with sleep!) as one would say in Shona.
Peter Mutasa, like many other Zimbabweans it must be said, has clearly forgotten that it was SADC leaders who forced Mugabe and Zanu PF to agree to the 2008 Global Political Agreement’s reform agenda. It was Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends’ fault, not SADC, that not even one reform was implemented.
SADC leaders literally begged MDC leaders not to participate in Zimbabwe’s flawed elections without first implementing the reforms. MDC leaders have again and again ignored the advice. The advice is still valid now more than ever and we all know Chamisa and company are hell bent on participating in the 2023 elections.
It is not SADC you should be speaking to Mr Mutasa; speak to Chamisa and company, they are the ones whose greed and incompetence is fuelling Zimbabwe’s economic and political crisis!

  11. ZIMBABWE'S ruling party claims that its membership base is growing astronomically. A cursory glance at the Zimbabwe African National Union Patriotic Front (Zanu-PF)'s cell registers shows that its scope is high. It has presence across the national territory and society down to the village committee in rural areas or cell level in urban areas. A cell is the lowest organ of the party where membership is registered. Every member of the party including the President should belong to a cell structure and be recorded in a cell register. A cell structure has 21 position holders and a minimum of 50 members.

Zanu-PF's director of information, Tafadzwa Mugwadi, claimed on August 22, 2021 that the party had "quantifiable and verifiable membership of 3 624 050 from more than 72 752 cell structures across the country" in a context whereby the national voter register has about 5,6 million people.
Zanu PF can falsify the party membership figure because who is there to audit and in like fashion falsify the number of registered voters hence the reason ZEC will never produce a verified voters’ roll although this is a legal requirement!
Zanu PF is rigging these elections just as blatantly as the party has rigged elections in the past. Chamisa and company are participating under the pretext they will win rigged elections, a feeble excuse to cover the real reason they are participating - greed.
Zanu PF is letting the opposition win aa few gravy train seats to entice them to participate. Mnangagwa has created POLAD, a grouping to reward all opposition leaders contested the presidential race and publicly endorsed the flawed process as free and fair. The opposition leaders have found the bait irresistible. No doubt there will be even more presidential candidate in the 2023 race!
By participating in these flawed elections, the opposition is giving Zanu PF legitimacy. “Why are the opposition participating if the elections aare flawed aand illegal!” Zanu PF was rightly argued!

  12. Of 19 African countries are in the commonwealth, Botswana, Cameroon, The Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Kingdom of Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania and Zambia; 11 of them are also SADC member countries. Wearing their Commonwealth cap, the 11 countries endorsed 54 member organisation’s election observer team’s report led by by Ghana's former president John Dramani Mahama.

"We note that important gains were made in these elections. However, the acute bias of the state media in favour of the governing party, persistent allegations of intimidation reported to the group, and the unfair use of incumbency privileges tilted the playing field in favour of the governing party (Zanu-PF),” stated the Mahama report.

"The post-election violence, which resulted in fatalities, and the behaviour of security forces marred this phase of elections. For these reasons, we are unable to endorse all aspects of the process as credible, inclusive, and peaceful."
Wearing their SADC cap, the 11 joined the rest of the regional body in endorsing the same elections as “substantially free, fair and credible!”
Indeed, some of the Commonwealth observer members where from SADC and had compatriots serving in the SADC observer team and mixed in the same circles throughout their visit. How SADC could have judged the blatantly rigged elections free, fair and credible, giving Zanu PF political legitimacy beggars belief!
SADC has played a part propping up this corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF regime even when it is crystal clear the regime was rigging elections and riding roughshod over the ordinary Zimbabweans. It is a cry shame we cannot count on our own regional body to tell the truth much less help us get out of the mess we find ourselves in.

  13. It is a historic fact that the 2008 to 2013 was a golden opportunity for Zimbabwe implement the democratic reforms and dismantle its oppressive and dysfunctional Zanu PF autocracy. SADC leaders had broken with their old tradition of supporting the ruling elite in forcing Zanu PF to accept reforms.

It is great pity that Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends had sold out and failed to implement even one reform. A fact very rarely acknowledged especially by MDC/CCC leaders who prefer to blame SADC leaders for the GNU's failures. There are three reasons MDC leaders' corrupt and incompetence must be acknowledged from the roof tops:

    a) because it is a historic fact
    b) by acknowledging it proves we have learned from the past mistakes and thus ready to move on
    c) We must not give SADC leaders the excuse for judging 2023 elections "substantially free, fair and credible" by denouncing in no uncertain terms the MDC/CCC's participation in the flawed elections.

  14. Zimbabwean public servants have rejected an offer for a 100% pay increase from the government of the Southern African nation where inflation surged to 132% last month.

Workers "flatly rejected" the state's offer to double their pay, the Zimbabwe Confederation of Public Sector Trade Unions said in an emailed statement Friday. They demand that the lowest paid civil servant get $840 a month, compared with their current salary of 18 000 Zimbabwean dollars (R850). Alternatively they want a pay check that includes a mix of the greenback and the local currency.

Zimbabwe's annual inflation rate jumped to the highest level in a year in May as food prices almost tripled. This was partly due a sharp depreciation in the Zimbabwe dollar that spurred authorities to use a variety of strategies to stem its decline.
Former VP Mohadi promised to pay village heads and other traditional leaders generous salaries and allowances, better than those paid to teachers, nurses and other low rank civil servants. The party values the traditional leaders’ service of carolling rural voters to attend Zanu PF rallies and to vote for the party. Zimbabwe’s education and health care services have all but collapsed after decades of being starved of funds. Many teachers and nurses have left the country in search for greener pastures.
Zanu PF cares more about retaining its iron grip on power and even at the cost of tragic human suffering and the country sinking into the abyss!
Zimbabwe is a pariah state ruled by corrupt and vote rigging thugs and as long as that remains the case, there will be no meaningful economic recovery. The country had many golden opportunities to end the Zanu PF dictatorship, especially during the 2008 to 2013 GNU; the country’s corrupt and incompetent opposition wasted them all.

  15. If the Commonwealth was to readmit Zimbabwe knowing fully well that Zanu PF has not implemented even one token reform; it would be an insult to every thinking Zimbabwean. Zimbabwe will have no choice but to pull out of the Commonwealth at the earliest opportunity!

  16. The Commonwealth refused to readmit Zimbabwe back into the body of 53 nations because the country failed to hold free, fair and credible elections in 2018.
"We note that important gains were made in these elections. However, the acute bias of the state media in favour of the governing party, persistent allegations of intimidation reported to the group, and the unfair use of incumbency privileges tilted the playing field in favour of the governing party (Zanu-PF),” stated the Commonwealth Observer team report. The team was led by former President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama.

"The post-election violence, which resulted in fatalities, and the behaviour of security forces marred this phase of elections. For these reasons, we are unable to endorse all aspects of the process as credible, inclusive, and peaceful.”
The Commonwealth, the EU and many other observers have recommended the country implement reforms. Sadly, not even one token reform has been implemented. Zanu PF is rigging the 2023 elections as we speak, for Pete’s sake!
Why the country’s opposition continue to participate in these flawed and illegal elections just to give the process some modicum of credibility and Zanu PF legitimacy, is a mute but important question.
Readmitting vote rigging Zanu PF’s Zimbabwe into the Commonwealth will be patronising and insulting to very thinking Zimbabwean. Zimbabwe will leave the Commonwealth at the earliest opportunity – that is the measure of our anger!

Has it ever occurred to you that ordinary Zimbabweans also want the freedoms and rights including the right to free elections that other human beings out there take for granted!
It is interesting that Zanu PF has only acknowledge the call for free elections coming from the whites and completely ignored the blacks making the same call. This is nothing new, the whites before independence treated the blacks with the same dismissive contempt!
Zanu PF talked of one man one vote before independence but discarded the idea long before the nation’s first elections in 1980. The party made it clear if Zanu PF lost the elections the bush war would continue. The party has rigged elections ever since under the pretext it is foreigners seeking regime change who want free and fair elections.
The people of Zimbabwe will be having free and fair elections if MDC/CCC have not sold out on reforms. Trust me the reforms will be implemented; watch this space and learn!
