At exactly 12.01 EST 20/01/21 America will heave sigh of relief - government of the people was tested and survive N Garikai

Today, 20 January 2020, at exactly one minute past high noon Eastern Standard Time the whole of America will heave a huge sigh of relief. The four years of chaos, arrogance and down right lawlessness under Donald Trump rule are finally over.

On 19 November 1863 USA President Abraham Lincoln called upon all his fellow Americans to honour the many soldiers who had died in the civil war notably in the Gettysburg battle so that America’s democratic system government, “that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”

Four years of Trump had tested America’s democracy like never before since the end of the civil war!

One of the central tenet of a health and functioning democracy is the respect of the rule of law. The one thing that mark Trump out as different is contempt of the law. He considering playing by the rules as a weakness.

The events leading to his impeachment showed just how much Trump wanted to win the 2020 presidential elections and used his position as US President to pressure the Ukrainian leaders to dig up some dirty on his political challenger. The Senate did not convict him but only because the Republican, Trump’s party, had the majority in the House.

When the results of the 3rd November 2020 presidential elections started coming in and it was clear Trump was losing, he denounce the election as a fraud. He was given ample opportunity to present the evidence to support his allegations in the courts and one after another his challenges were dismissed for lack of evidence.

Trump was recorded arguing a Georgia State Official to find him the 11 000 votes or so he needed to win that State!

Trump crossed the double red-lines when he ordered his supporters to storm Capitol Hill to stop the Senators from confirming Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as President and Vice President Elect. Trump supporters caused mayhem and five people died and several were injured in the violence.

The sole purpose of storming Capitol Hill was to reverse the people’s democratic wish of the 3 rd November vote, the ultimate expression of “government of the people, by the people, for the people”. The mob failed to reverse the people’s vote.

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” With these words President Joe Biden will become the 46th President of USA.

America’s government of the people, by the people and for the people lives on!

  1. THE United States (US) yesterday said Harare should investigate and bring to book the perpetrators of the January 2019 killings, where soldiers and the police allegedly shot and killed at least 23 people, according to civic society organisations.

Harare and Washington have been embroiled in a diplomatic spat, with the US constantly calling the Zanu-PF government to order over gross human rights violations, as well as alleged use of State machinery to abduct and silence critics.

We welcome the new President Joe Biden Administration and please to see the chaotic Trump era ride into the sun-set of history. We will give the new Administration time to sort out the mess gripping America and then, in time, turn the screw on tyrannical regimes like the one in Harare.

To stop the country’s economic meltdown, the root cause of the tragic human suffering and deaths; Zimbabwe’s next elections must be free, fair and credible. All pressure must be brought to bear of the Zanu PF dictatorship and its coopted MDC acolytes to implement the reforms or else have the 2023 elections declared null and void.

  2. “America has been tested and come out stronger for it!” said President Joe Biden.

“We will lead not merely by the example of our power but the power of our example!”

A new dawn for America after four years of chaos, confusion, fear and blundering incompetence of those entrusted to lead.

I look forward to the day when Zimbabwe will finally have its dawn of freedom, liberty, justice and human dignity after 40 years and counting of corrupt and tyrannical rule.

What Zimbabwe needs to secure its dawn of freedom is clear - we must implement the democratic reforms and restore the freedoms and rights of all Zimbabweans including the right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country and even the right to life itself.

We have had many golden opportunities to guarantee our freedoms and rights and again and again those entrusted to carry out this task have been distracted by selfish greed. We can secure for ourselves, our children and posterity the blessing of freedoms and human rights and dignities; if we rededicate ourselves to the important task and finally, finally get it done!

  3. President Mnangagwa was visibly shaken by the demise of the minister of Foreign Affairs cde Sibusiso B Moyo. He has described Foreign Affairs Minister Sibusiso Moyo as a devoted public servant, friend and true hero, the man who was dedicated to his work and to his country. His death has created a hole which cannot be filled.

Cde SB Moyo succumbed to Covid-19 this morning at a local hospital. Minister Moyo became popular because of the role he played during Operation Restore Legacy.

He was the man behind the speech that heralded a new political dispensation in Zimbabwe. He became a household name for displaying unparalleled bravery.

In his condolence message on his Twitter handle, President Mnangagwa said Cde SB Moyo fought his entire life so Zimbabwe could be free.

"It is with a heavy heart that I announce Foreign Minister Dr SB Moyo has died.

"Zimbabwe has lost a devoted public servant and a true hero, and I have lost a friend. He fought his entire life so that Zimbabwe could be free. May he rest in peace," he said.

History will remember the 15 November 2017 military coup for what it was - a military coup and not the nonsensical “military assisted transition” announced by the sweaty S B Moyo!

History will know that it was the same military junta that had kept Mugabe in power all the 37 years against the democratic wishes of the oppressed people of Zimbabwe.

S B Moyo a “devoted public servant!” only a fellow corrupt, vote rigging and murderous tyrant would say that!

  4. The refusal by some of this Zanu PF apologists to accept facts and/or to compare like for like is shocking. We are being told here that whatever mistakes one can find in the American voters' roll are in any way comparable to the deliberate acts to deny people their vote perpetrated by Zanu PF such as refusing 3 million Zimbabweans in the diaspora the vote!

Robert Mugabe admitted that Zimbabwe was being swindled US$ 15 billion in diamonds alone. It should be remember Zimbabwe has a GDP of US$ 10 billion. Comrade Chido is arguing that there is corruption the world over. For a country like USA with a GPD of US$ 20 trillion will have to lose US$ 30 trillion for us to compare like for like! I for one would be very surprised in USA is losing even 1% of its GPD to looting because looting is the enemy of development hence the reason why Zimbabwe's economy has been in total meltdown for decades!

What is particularly obnoxious with these Zanu PF thugs and their acolytes, is their shocking indifference to the suffering and deaths of their own follow country men.

Robert Mugabe had no qualms building his US$2 billion Blue Roof sprawling mansion whilst even the country's biggest referral hospital 3 kilometres away was so starved of funds the hospital was running out of something as basic as pain killers. Of course, he did not care since he, his family and his fellow ruling elite had long stop using local health care, education, etc. Mugabe went to Singapore no few than 8 times for medical care in 2012 at a cost of US$3 million per trip, according to then Minister of Finance, Tendai Biti, who paid the bill!

Chido and his Zanu PF masters got into power and because blind to the plight of the masses. The people risked life and limb to vote MDC into power and they, in turn, were corrupted by power and failed to implement even one reform when they had the chance to do so.

And now the nation cannot even get the democratic reforms implemented because Zanu PF and MDC are resisting efforts to have the reforms implemented. Zanu PF is bribing MDC with a few gravy train seats to participate in flawed elections and Chamisa et al cannot resist the bait!
