ZEC in election U-turn, covid-19 "new norm" - without reforms, why risk even one life over a farce N Garikai

“The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) has said it would withdraw its proposal to suspend electoral activities during the COVID-19 lockdown because the pandemic was likely to be long-term,” reported Newsday.

“Zec said the policy document, which was meant to provide guidance on procedures and conduct of electoral activities and processes in a COVID-19 environment, was borne out of the realisation that the pandemic would be with us for some time and was now the ‘new normal’."

Elections in which there is no something as basic as verified voters’ roll is an insult to every Zimbabwean with any common sense! We know why Zanu PF does not want free, fair and credible elections – it cannot risk losing the elections and with it the absolute power and the right to loot.

We know why MDC and the rest of the corrupt and incompetent opposition will participate in these flawed and illegal elections; they are after the few seats Zanu PF gives away as bait. MDC leaders have given up all hope of getting any meaningful reforms implemented ever since the 2008 GNU when they sold out and wasted the opportunity to implement reforms.

Since neither Zanu PF nor MDC gives a damn that the people are being denying their democratic right to a free, fair and credible election. The results of these flawed and illegal elections are farce and devoid of democratic validity.

So as far as the thinking Zimbabwean out there is concerned until the reforms are implemented to guarantee free, fair and credible elections; Zimbabwe should not be holding elections. Zanu PF and its surrogate opposition parties, all 130 of them at the last count, can do whatever they wish and spare the nation the antic of yet another election charade especially now when the threat of spreading corona virus at these rallies is a real and immediate danger.

“The electoral commission lacked full independence and appeared to not always act in an impartial manner. The final results as announced by the Electoral Commission contained numerous errors and lacked adequate traceability, transparency and verifiability,” stated the EU Zimbabwe 2018 Election Observer Mission final report.

“As such, many aspects of the 2018 elections in Zimbabwe failed to meet international standards.”

After 40 years of rigged elections we want the democratic reforms agreed in the 2008 Global Political Agreement finally implemented. Without implementing the reforms the planned by-elections and the 2023 elections will be a waste of time!

“According to the draft policy, voters will bring their pens to mark the ballot papers, inspect the voters roll online and a person whose temperature is lower or higher than the recommended national standard ranges would not be allowed into polling stations,” reported Newsday.

The July 2018 elections failed to produce a legitimate government because the whole electoral process was flawed and illegal. This Zanu PF regime is illegitimate whether or not the regime holds by-elections is academic, the regime will still be illegitimate.

  1. Jacob Ngarivhume is a man on a mission. His vision is to liberate Zimbabwe from its former liberators who have now become its captors.

He has stepped in to fill the leadership vacuum.

Zimbabwe has been on a knife edge for some time. The economy which has been on auto pilot has finally hit rock bottom. ED’s clueless government is scratching everywhere but can not find answers. Corruption has reached unprecedented levels, with the recent Covigate which implicated and embarrassed the First family, a case in point.

That is all very well but why did you participate in the 2018 elections when it was clear Zanu PF was rigging the elections. If you did not even have the common sense to demand that ZEC produce a verified voters roll where will you get the intellect to revive the economic mess? People like you should just shut up!

  2. What I cannot get my head round is Zimbabwe’s failure to hold free, fair and credible elections. 20 years ago, after two decades of agonising over the matter, the majority of Zimbabweans finally came to their sense and agreed on the need for democratic changes to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections. Morgan Tsvangirai and his friends founded the party on the promise that if elected into power they will bring about the democratic changes. They named their party Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) riding on the democratic change public mood!

They people risked life and limb to elect Tsvangirai and company into power and after 20 years, 5 of which in the GNU, on the political centre stage MDC have absolutely nothing to show for it. The have failed to implement even one token democratic reform. Not one!

Ever since the end of the GNU MDC leaders have completely abandoned all efforts to implement the democratic reforms and have participated in the 2013 elections and all other elections since on the pretext they can win rigged elections. “MDC has stringent measure to stop Zanu PF rigging elections!” boasted Chamisa before the 2018 elections.

The MDC and the rest of the braindead entourage in the opposition camp participated in July 2018 elections even when ZEC failed to produce something as basic as verified voters’ roll. Chamisa, Biti, Mahere, Coltart and the rest of the corrupt, incompetent, braindead and sell-out opposition politicians are participating in these flawed and illegal elections because they are after the few gravy train seats Zanu PF gives away as bait!

What I cannot fathom is why the hundreds of thousands of Zimbabweans (counting out those in the rural areas who are nothing more than medieval serfs under the present situation) continue to participate in this utterly meaningless charade. It is shocking that they have no clue what constitute free, fair and credible elections in this day and age.

Zimbabweans even have the chutzpah to boast about being one of the most literate nation in Africa! What value is it having a University Degree and PhD (if you throw a stone into an opposition rally, chances are you will hit a lawyer, Doctor or a Professor; they are everywhere) when you do not have even have the common sense to realise the sheer insanity of expecting to win rigged elections after 40 years! FCUK ME!

“I have no doubt you are the same Mukori just changed the name to wood wink us. Or you are both sell-out Madhuku followers.”

I know you and your bosses in Chibuku House are getting pretty desperate, you want these elections to be seen as credible and people like me are dismissing them as farce, flawed and illegal. To win this tassal you are having to find way to discredit me and you have hit on labelling me as a Madhuku bootlicker.

I have just castigated all those opposition politicians who have participated in these flawed and illegal elections “corrupt, incompetent, braindead and sell-outs”. For you own information Madhuku has participated in these elections, he was one of the 23 presidential candidates in the July 2018 elections. If I was a Madhuku bootlicker would I call him corrupt, incompetent, etc.?

You and your Chikubu House bosses are paid by us the ordinary Zimbabweans and I demand that you lot must be fired if you do not do better than this s***t. Damn it, I will have my money’s worth out of Mwembe! Either you put up or you shut up!

“You are exposed Madhuku puppet. Now you are panicking .Deny it this article was written by you and you used the name Nomsa to fool us so that we by Madhuku junk which you have tried unsuccessfully to sell here . Unfortunately, you write longoooooooooooo things which most pple like me find it boring to read through out as you try hard to paint Madhuku as a good person.”

It was Eleanor Roosevelt, the wife of USA President FD Roosevelt who said, “Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.” She was right.

This article is about how the nation can implement the democratic reforms to ensure free, fair and credible elections and thus finally end this curse of rigged elections and bad governance. After 40 years of rigged elections the country desperately needs a way out.

You have not said a single thing that is relevant to the challenge the nation is facing. You are clearly obsessed about proving that I am Lovemore Madhuku’s bootlicker, trying hard to paint him as a good person. I have already said and will say it again and again that all those opposition politicians who have been participating in these flawed and illegitimate elections are corrupt, incompetent, braindead and sell-out. Madhuku has participated in these elections and so is included above. How can I be painting him as a good man by calling him corrupt, incompetent, etc.?

The reason why you are obsessed about Madhuku, who Nomusa is, etc. is because you are a village idiot with a “small mind”, as Eleanor Roosevelt put it. You cannot discuss events much less ideas and so you discuss people regardless how idiotic and farfetched your contributions happen to be.

Zimbabwe is in this economic and political mess because the country has had the great misfortune of have corrupt, incompetent and braindead murderous thugs like Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF cronies as its liberators. The day the took power they have ridden roughshod of the people denying them their freedoms, rights and their very humanity for the sole purpose of consolidating the regime absolute power which the thugs then used to rob the nation blind. You are just a cog in the Zanu PF de facto one-party dictatorship wheel. Just because you have the whole Zanu PF juggernaut behind you does has not made you anything other than the simpleminded village idiot you are and will remain to your dying day!

You should confine yourself to sharing your foolish nonsense in The Herald, The Chronicle, ZBC Radio and TV, etc. You dare come on this site and you will be taken to task! You will never ever be allowed to get away with your foolish nonsense. Never!

Wilbert Mukori is Madhuku’s bootlicker, you have convinced yourself of that; now tell how are we going to make sure the next elections are free, fair and credible?

“You are so ignorant my friend I was part of the people who decided to form the workers ' s political party after a rounding success of the 1998 strike which shocked the govt . Up to this day I am a proudly MDC alliance member under the leadership of Chamisa woxolo ukuthula lokuzwisisana Chamisa uzuumina kutumwa abantu . 2023 ticha Tuma Chamisa chete chete.”

So you think there were no Zanu PF double-agents in the “1998 strike which shocked the govt” and they have remained MDC card holders to this day? Indeed, many of them are senior MDC leaders. How naïve!

The very reason Zanu PF has managed to get MDC leaders to do nothing about the reforms for five years is because, as I said, MDC leaders are breathtakingly corrupt and incompetent. The likes of Tsvangirai had no clue what the reforms were about.

Former US Ambassador to Zimbabwe 2004 to 2007, Chris Dell, said Tsvangirai “was a flawed and indecisive character who would become an albatross round the nation’s neck”. History has proven the ambassador was right.

A few MDC leaders know what the reforms are but they failed to implement even one reform because with the snouts in the feeding trough they could not think of anything else. And then there are others who know what reforms are but did not implement any reforms because, as Zanu PF double agents, they were there to make sure no reforms are implemented.

As for the MDC supporters, they are some of the most naïve and gullible people on earth. Of course, the MDC wildebeest herd have no clue what the reforms are and so have never questioned why not even one reform has been implemented by the party in 20 years.

You Mwembe have shown or pretended that you have no clue what the reforms are and have taken it upon yourself to keep the spirit of the MDC herd that the party will win the next rigged elections. So, you could be just one of the wildebeest or a Zanu PF double agent, the difference is academic, since the result is the same – to persuade the MDC herd to participate in yet another rigged elections!
“2023 ticha tuma Chamisa chete chete!” Yes, but to what end and purpose! Without reforms Zanu PF will rig the elections just as the party has rigged past elections?
I refuse to join the wildebeest herd, the insane, participating in flawed elections for 40 years and counting and expecting a different result. To be called “ignorant” by the insane is not an insult to one who knows the speaker is insane, a village idiot masquerading as an intellectual!

  3. I understand why MDC and the rest of the opposition are participating in these flawed elections, they know Zanu PF is giving away a few gravy-train seats as bait and that is good enough for them. As for why Zanu PF has rigged elections these last 40 years; they enjoy absolute power and the riches and good life it guarantees, they would not risk that by holding free, fair and credible elections. What I cannot comprehend is why Zimbabweans who have everything to lose and have lost everything in rigged elections continue to participate regardless.

Still, we certainly deserve this corrupt, incompetent and vote rigging Zanu PF dictatorship complete with its entourage of equally corrupt and useless opposition parties, all 130 of them at the last count. We will demand free, fair and credible elections when we have suffered enough. We have not suffered enough, not yet!

  4. This action is the first step toward the decimation of councils whose mandate comes from the will of the people.

We have noted that Zanu PF is stalling the holding of by-elections because the people will just vote back the recalled councilors. This sideshow will not in any way help service delivery or improve the plight of the ordinary Zimbabwean.

Frankly, the MDC Alliance’s narrative of portraying the recall of MDC elected officials as Zanu PF political shenanigans is just rubbing hot chilli into the ordinary Zimbabweans eyes, who are the real victims of this whole political fiasco. Zimbabwe is in this political and economic mess because, foremost, MDC leaders sold-out and failed to implement the democratic reforms to stop Zanu PF rigging elections. The root cause of the recall fiasco is none other than Nelson Chamisa himself who behaved like a Zanu PF thug and seized the party leadership after Tsvangirai’s death.

So, this charade of pretending MDC Alliance are totally innocent is an insult to every thinking Zimbabwean out there!

Zanu PF has its 2/3 majority in parliament and senate, the party gave away these opposition seat during the July 2018 elections as bait to entice the opposition to participate. Any suggestion that Zanu PF will be desperate to win these seats in a by-election is hogwash.

Indeed, it will come as no surprise that ZEC will produce spotlessly clean voters’ roll for these by-elections and run the whole process by the book!

The by-elections are going ahead and if Nelson Chamisa was to win back most of the recalled seats he will have cause to celebrate but so too would Mnangagwa – he will take this as proof he had nothing to do with the recalls but most important of all he will know that bruised Chamisa will not be as cocky as the Chamisa of a year ago.

This whole recall business, the by-elections, etc. these are distractions supping the nation’s energy away from the all-important business of getting Zanu PF to step down so we can implement the democratic reforms. If Zanu PF is still in power come the 2023 elections, the party will blatantly rig those elections and that is, at the end of the day, all that really matters!

In short, MDC leaders, across the MDC factional divide, are helping the Zanu PF agenda by drawing attention away from the only thing that matters, implementing the reforms to ensure next elections are free, fair and credible!

  5. Moyo who went to exile in 2017 after the November bloody coup that ended 37 years of the late President Robert Mugabe's iron rule is being accused of allegedly misappropriating US$244 575 from the Zimbabwe Manpower Development Fund (Zimdef).

According to the State-owned Herald, Chief Law officer Chris Mutangadura processed the papers based on a sworn affidavit by Acting Deputy Prosecutor-General Nelson Mutsonziwa.

The government is using the Extradition (Designated Countries) Order of 1990 to push for the extradition.

Mnangagwa is desperate to arrest a few corrupt Zanu PF officials to earn himself a few brownie points for stamping out corruption. He is going for the G40 members because they are a soft target and because he will be killing two birds with one stone. The likes of Professor Jonathan Moyo and other G40 members have very fat bank accounts from all their share of the looted wealth and they have made no secret their willingness to use the money to bankroll the opposition. Jonathan Moyo is a ruthless operator and Mnangagwa does not have the intellect to counter him.

Flushing out Moyo from his fox-hole will certainly be a big gain for Zanu PF. As far as the ordinary people are concerned, the arrest of G40 leaders is a good start in the recovery of the looted wealth.

Jonathan Moyo has everything to worry about, the crocodile is slow but it is relentless.
