EU and US will never back a Zanu PF anything - never back an illegitimate regime W Mukori

“WITH Zimbabwe's political and economic crises deepening, the United States of America (USA) and the European Union (EU) have once again implored authorities to engage the MDC to end the country's myriad challenges,” reported Daily News.

“This comes as the international spotlight is once again on the Zanu-PF government, after claims by three opposition youth leaders last week that they were abducted and tortured by unknown men following a demonstration in Harare.

“At the same time, local churches and rights groups have also called for a thorough and independent probe into the alleged abuses, which have further raised political temperatures in the country.”

I can understand the international community calling on Mnangagwa to thoroughly investigate the cases of human rights abuse. It is the responsibility of the government of the day legitimate or not to guarantee the safety of all the citizens.

I totally reject the argument that the Americans or anyone else out there with a working brain would be asking Zanu PF “to engage the MDC to end the country’s myriad challenges!” Zanu PF has 2/3 majority in parliament and senate and it has the presidency so why would the party still need to engage the opposition?

Chamisa has blamed the country’s economic meltdown on Mnangagwa’s “lack of legitimacy”. True enough the international community, investors and lenders have continued to shy away from Zimbabwe because the country is a pariah state ruled by corrupt, incompetent and vote rigging thugs. But the same international community will not be fooled into believing Zimbabwe was now a democracy just because Chamisa and a few MDC leaders have joined the Mnangagwa cabinet!

Mnangagwa and Zanu PF does not need to engage MDC, now or in the past, for him to implement the democratic reforms necessary to end the Zanu PF dictatorship. He has never implemented the reforms and has no intention of doing so because the dictatorship is keeping the party in power!

Those who think a Zanu PF and MDC government will implement the reforms have very short memory because that is exactly what we had in the 2008 to 2013 GNU and they failed to implement even one reform! Not one!

Zanu PF is a corrupt and incompetent regime and has been rigging elections to stay in power regardless of the people’s democratic wishes. There are Zimbabweans out there who are sold on the nonsense that Zanu PF has the right to rule on its own or in coalition with others. And so, any political solution that does not have Zanu PF is disregarded as unworkable. Worse still, they are now falsely claiming that is the view of the EU, USA, etc.

The EU, US, etc. are democratic nations who respect the democratic wish of the electorate and they accept that a corrupt and incompetent regime that rigged the elections has no right to remain in power. The suggestion that the international community would be backing an undemocratic and unworkable solution for Zimbabwe is simply absurd!

Zimbabwe has a golden opportunity to dismantle its failed political system of the last 40 years; we must keep our eyes and minds focused on this important task – To build a healthy and functioning democratic Zimbabwe.

  1. The British, at least during the former UK Ambassador to Zimbabwe Catriona Lang's tour of duty, backed this Mnangagwa regime to the hilt. The UK was negotiating with the IMF, WB and other international finance institutions to have Zimbabwe's debt burden reduced or cancelled. Zanu PF blatantly rigged the July 2018 elections and the British campaigned hard to have have this serious transgression glossed over.

If Mnangagwa had listened to Ambassador Lang's advice and appointed Chamisa "Leader of the opposition" complete with the ministerial limos and all the usual paraphernalia, which is all Chamisa has been after, Zimbabwe would be a member of the Commonwealth and welcomed in the commune of nations. Ambassador Lang would have seen to that!

The EU has since lifted all the sanctions imposed of the Zanu PF regime even though its own election observer mission condemned the July 2018 elections as farce. Indeed, the observers recommended that the sanctions against the regime must be maintained but the Foreign Ministers, who made the decision, ignored the recommendation and lifted the sanctions.

If it is in their selfish interest, the EU and many of these democratic nations out there have always acted to promote those interest regardless of the moral considerations and consequences. EU is already backing this Zanu PF regime knowing fully well that it is illegitimate!

    1. I totally agree with you there, the EU will back the Zanu PF government knowing fully well that it is illegitimate. However the point that is being made here is that it is the Daily News and other like minded Zimbabweans who are not just canvassing for the EU, USA and the rest to back a Zanu PF regime, they are putting words into the EU's mouth.

The EU, US and the western diplomats called for the protagonists, those fighting for free, fair and credible elections, to resolve Zimbabwe's crisis. If they had wanted Zanu PF and MDC to resolve the country's crisis then they would have called for the antagonists!

It is nonsensical that after 40 years of corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical Zanu PF misrule that anyone would still look to Zanu PF to get us out of the mess. It is insane, to be trying the same thing over and over again and expect a different result even after trying for 40 years!

  2. @ P Moyo

I have to agree with you there, Zimbabweans have become experts at crying for help. In this case, if we are counting on EU and the other democratic nations out there to stop Zanu PF imposing itself on the nation because "Zanu PF rigged the elections, it is illegitimate and they will not back an illegitimate regime" then we are wrong. The EU has already lifted the sanctions imposed on the regime and will back the regime because EU nations like Belgium are itching to join the wholesale looting of Zimbabwe's diamonds. Belgium does not give a damn Zanu PF rigged the elections!

  3. Mozambique Requests For Urgent South African Air Force Help As Islamist Militants Gain Ground.

Mozambique has failed to hold free, fair and credible elections and by denying the people a meaningful say in the governance of the country the government has sown the seed of discontent. The country is now ripping what it sowed, the militant uprising. Now the fire has been lit putting it out will be a costly affair!

  4. Chihuri, his wife Isobel Halima Khan Chihuri, daughter Samantha Hamadziripi Chihuri, and son Ethan Takudzwa Augustine Chihuri were listed as the respondents in the application along with relatives Aitken and Netsai Khan and six companies: Croxile Investments, Adamah Enterprises, Mastermedia (Pvt) Ltd, Mastaw Investments and Rash Marketing.
In an affidavit deposed by Hodzi, Chihuri is under investigation for criminal abuse of office, money laundering, theft and fraud. He accuses Chihuri of establishing a “syndicated criminal mafia” meant to siphon public funds for his personal benefit and that of his cronies. This would have entailed externalisation of money and money laundering abroad, he said.
Hodzi contends Chihuri established the companies in connivance with his relatives for the alleged purposes of siphoning funds from the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s revolving fund.
Isobel Chihuri, according to the State, is the managing director for Mastaw Investments, which received US$3 823 285 from ZRP General Headquarters after giving an allegedly fake business address.
A total of US$32 million was looted.
Besides the company dealings, the State is keen to have Chihuri to explain his property holdings.

The State wants Chihuri to explain how he acquired 11 listed properties:

Seven residential stands at Police Heights on Gletwin Farm in north-east Harare; 571 Zengeza Township; 9 hectares at Fishhponds in Lomagundi district; Stand 231 in Athlone in Greendale measuring 4 639 square metres; and 431 Quinnington in Borrowdale measuring 5 500 square metres.

Four vehicles are also listed under assets that need explanation. Two combine harvesters, six tractors, two planters, three motorbikes and a boom spray were found at Chihuri’s farms at Shamva and Darwendale.

Dr Chihuri’s doctorate thesis was entitled “Policing in post independent Zimbabwe” and, according to him, the greatest policing challenge was stopping those hell-bend on regime change. Chihuri identified the opposition parties and critics of Zanu PF as nothing more than puppets of the west whose primary task was regime change, the wishes of their masters. As the country’s Police Commissioner, he considered it his duty to do whatever he considered necessary to stop these puppets including false arrest, Police harassment, beating, raping, destroying property and even cold-blooded murder.

There is no doubt that in his whole thesis he never gave any details of even one case where one of these puppets had be charged and convicted of regime change charges. He was the accuser, investigator, judge and executioner all rolled up into one.

Now we can see why he was so ruthless in making sure there was no regime change in Zimbabwe – the Zanu PF regime was allowing him and his family and cronies to rob the nation blind!

  5. OPPOSITION MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa has slammed Africa's electoral system as a "big circus if not an embarrassment to the continent", hence the recurrence of disputed polls.

In his 50th Africa Day celebration statement yesterday, Chamisa said the continent was failing to go beyond leaders' rhetoric because of the "big brother" syndrome, corruption, governance crisis and what he termed "inability to think beyond subsistence and clientalism".

"With the latest electoral skulduggery and shenanigans on the African continent, electoral politics make Africa a big circus if not an embarrassment. On this day, many African countries celebrate the hard-fought achievement of freedom and independence," Chamisa, who lost to President Emmerson Mnangagwa in the disputed 2018 presidential poll, said.
The MDC Alliance leader said parasitic elites were in charge of racketeering activities for personal gain at the expense of the poor citizens.

"We have the twin evils of big men syndrome and neo-patrimonialism and corrupt kleptocracy. Parasitic elites are in charge of rent-seeking and racketeering activities for personal aggrandisement to the detriment of the common good and common citizen," he said

What a shameless hypocrite, he is condemning the “parasitic elite and the latest electoral skulduggery and shenanigans” when he is the man behind it all. Chamisa and his MDC friends have failed to implement even one meaningful democratic change even when they had the golden opportunities to do so during the 2008 to 2013 GNU.

MDC leaders have continued to participate in these “embarrassing elections” for selfish political gain knowing fully well the elections were being rigged. The party insisted it was going to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections.

“MDC has stringent measures to stop Zanu PF rigging elections!” boasted Chamisa before the July 2018 elections. Of course, MDC had no such measures.

When Chamisa realised the international community had condemned the elections as a farce, he tried to cash in on Mnangagwa’s discomfort by offering to endorse the flawed elections and declared Mnangagwa legitimate if Zanu PF offered him and his MDC friends cabinet positions.

Of course, the international community was not going to be fooled into believing the illegitimate Zanu PF regime was legitimate just because it had a few MDC manikins in cabinet!
