"Lift sanctions to end poverty" AU insist - polo are poor but not stupid, know Blue Roof opulence is mother of poverty P Guramatunhu

There are many reasons why Africa has remained the dark continent, forever doomed to blunder from one crisis to the next.

Africa was at business-end of the slave trade, millions of Africans were sold like cattle at the market to suffer and die in damn anguish. All Africa got in payment for supplying the human cargo was a fist of shinny beards and a piece of calico cloth per head.

Within a few years of the abolish of the slave trade, there was the scramble for Africa. Africa was dolled out to the European, mostly, colonial powers for the explicit purpose of exploiting the continent’s resources for the benefit of the colonisers with scant regard for the wellbeing of the colonised people.

Many Africans celebrated as each African country gained her independence but little did they know they were jumping from the frying pan into the fire and brimstone of hell-on-earth. All most nations have ever done was to replace the white colonial oppressors, with the common sense not to kill the goose that lays the golden egg, with black nationalist oppressors who killed every goose on sight!

In Zimbabwe Mugabe and his fellow black nationalists leaders have ridden roughshod over the people denying them their freedoms and rights including the right to “One man, one vote!”, the clarion cry before independence, and even the right to life. Over 30 000 innocent Zimbabweans have been murdered in cold blood by Zanu PF for the purpose of imposing and retain the de facto one-party, Zanu PF, dictatorship that has ruled the nation with an iron fist these last 40 years and still counting.

Mugabe and his cronies’ insatiable greed for power and wealth have completely destroyed the country’s once vibrant and promising economy. Not only has Mugabe and his Zanu PF regime failed to build on what the white colonialist bequeath at independence they have failed to maintain what the got. The hospitals, railway network, power system, roads, etc. we inherited in 1980 are all in varying stages of rot and decay!

The people of Zimbabwe have often look to SADC, the regional body, and AU, the continental body for help to end the Zanu PF dictatorship - in the spirit of African solutions to African problems. Sadly this has been a complete waste of time as these regional and continental bodies are composed entirely and exclusively of corrupt, incompetent and murderous despots, one of his members is the subject of the complain. Here is one example.

The Deputy Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Kwesi Quartey, speaking at the ongoing sixth African Regional Forum on Sustainable Development, has called for the immediate removal of sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by the West and the US.

“For us to build the conducive conditions to achieve these lofty ambitions, the AU has called for all the sanctions on this country to be lifted immediately,” said Quartey.

“This is what will allow for more effective engagement of our women and our youth in the multifaceted process of accelerated development. It also means the recognition of the statistics and data, to enable evidence based policy making, based on facts on the ground.”

This is just another AU braindead bureaucrat repeating the vomit of his AU leaders. There is overwhelming evidence to prove gross mismanagement and rampant corruption - not the sanctions - are root causes of Zimbabwe’s, seemingly unending, economic and political crisis.

Ordinarily, the people of Zimbabwe would have remove the corrupt and incompetent Zanu PF regime from office long before mismanagement and corrupt grew and spread to the killer cancers they are today. The nation has been stuck with the Zanu PF regime for 40 years and counting because the party rigs elections!

Whilst Mugabe has never lost one opportunity to denounce “the British Imperialists and their allies for imposing the illegal sanctions on mine Zimbabwe”. Ironically the sanctions have had no effect in stopping him and his cronies building palatial mansions, amassing vast wealth in Zimbabwe and outside and living lifestyles of unparalleled luxury and leisure!

The people of Zimbabwe have seen with their own eyes Mugabe’s Palatial Blue Roof mansion and have compared it to the country’s dilapidated referral hospitals like Parerenyatwa and Mpilo where even routine operations have been cancelled for lack of something as basic as painkillers.

The people are poor but they are not that stupid not to see they are being short changed by the ruling elite! And it is nothing short of an insult for bureaucratic idiots like Kwesi Quartey to keep repeating the discredited lie of blaming the west and sanctions.

The AU is a club of despots and none of them will dare denounce, much less take decisive corrective action, against a fellow despot over such matters as denying the people their freedoms and rights when they are all equally guilty of the same tyrannical practices.

It is Africa’s leaders themselves who have being insisting on “African solution to African problem!” They know a fellow African despot will never condemn a fellow despot!

Countries like China and Russia, left out in the 19 th century scramble for Africa have become the continent’s post independent Africa’s new colonial masters, the real power behind the black nationalist despotic government. In Russia can interfere in the democratic process in the USA and Europe what chance does a country like Zimbabwe have of ever holding free, fair and credible elections!

The Chinese involvement in Zimbabwe’s electoral process is more insidious than in Hong Kong so much so that the Chinese are not only keeping Zanu PF in power but they are the ones deciding who is the party’s leader!

The EU has recently dropped its demands of Zanu PF to hold free, fair and credible elections. They have decided to join the Chinese, Russians, Indians, Israelis and many others nations who have turned a blind eye to Africa’s despotic rulers’ checked human rights records and join in the looting of the continent’s national resources.

With corrupt, incompetent and vote rigging national despots like Mnangagwa, backed by blind as a desert mole and utterly useless SADC and AU bureaucrats like Kwesi Quartey all willing tools in the hands of exploitative neo-colonialists like Chinese; Africa is in for yet another long spell of poverty, suffering and anguish!

  1. The AU is a club of despots and, of course, the despots support each other at the expense of justice and common good. Zanu PF has sang this stupid swan song of sanctions being the root cause of Zimbabwe's problems. The people are poor but they are not stupid, not that stupid not to see that the Blue Roof opulence is the mother of poverty.

“Part of the problem is we are dealing with subjective issues, who is to decide the issues are addressed, it is personal opinion at the end of the day, both sides can make claims to support their positions.
Besides there is no perfect gvt in the world, these western powers are some of the leaders in gross human rights violation on many fronts in the world, who is holding them to account? To me there is just to much hypocrisy.”

This is nonsense and you know it. Zanu PF denied 3 million Zimbabweans in the diaspora the vote for no better reason other than that the party feared most of them will vote for regime change. Mnangagwa promised the people in the diaspora will get the vote next time, proof this was a deliberate act.

ZEC failed to produce a verified voters’ roll, a legal and common sense requirement!

These were deliberate and calculated acts to blatantly rig the elections and there is nothing subjective in judging the elections as flawed and illegal!

“United States of America, Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Brian Nichols has been overstepping his ambassadorial mandate by involving himself in internal affairs of Zimbabwe,” you said.

“Whilst Nichols is busy attacking Tagwirei and his businesses, he prefers to have amnesia when it comes to how the Zimbabwean economy has been ravaged by his country illegally imposed sanctions.”

Well that is rich coming from someone who claims to know what other nations can and cannot do. America is a sovereign nation what is free to decide what trade relations it will have with any other country. So how can the sanctions be illegal?

Whilst we still talking about legality, ZEC was required by law to produce a verified voters’ roll and it did not. There were many other flaws and illegalities in the conduct of the July 2018 elections that have rendered the process and therefore the outcome illegal.

Zanu PF is illegitimate and thus Zimbabwe is a pariah state governed by corrupt and vote rigging thugs. As long as Zimbabwe remains a pariah state, there will be no meaningful economic recovery.

If you were a full shilling, you would be more concerned about this illegitimate Zanu PF dictatorship and the worsening economic situation than fighting a lost battle of having the sanctions lifted. The sanctions are serving a very useful purpose and they are staying.

“Of late, doomsayers have upped their ante claiming that it is all doom and gloom and the country is on the verge of a precipice. Notwithstanding the unfounded allegations, Zimbabwe has been given an opportunity to prove to cynics, that the country in on the recovery roadmap, amid the stifling economic sanctions imposed on the country,” you say.

“Zimbabwe is currently hosting the 6th African Regional Forum on Sustainable Development Goals (ARFSD) in the resort town of Victoria Falls. The event, which is being sponsored by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) has been oversubscribed with close to 3000 delegates across the continent in attendance. The Forum is being held under the theme, "2020-2030: A decade to deliver a Transformed and Prosperous Africa through the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063.”

Zimbabwe is a pariah state ruled by corrupt, incompetent and vote rigging tyrants. No one wants to do business within a pariah state for a myriad of reasons. With unemployment now at 90%, hyperinflation now past the four digit mark, basic services such as education and health all but collapsed, etc. of course Zimbabwe is standing on the edge of the precipice.

Ever since Zimbabwe gained her independence in 1980 the nation has been promised a better tomorrow as the country’s economy sunk deeper and deeper into the abyss. 2030 Agenda and 2063 Agenda are just new mirages for the nation to chase that will never ever be realised as long as the country remains a pariah state ruled by corrupt, incompetent and vote rigging tyrants!

The people of Zimbabwe must focus all their time, energy, sweat and blood on getting the democratic reforms implemented so there are free, fair and credible elections. Only with the curse of rigged elections finally exorcised can Zimbabwe ever hope to get a competent and accountable government and register economic recovery and growth!

  5. The National University of Science and Technology Educators' Association (NUSTEDA) today officially declared incapacitation on behalf of all NUST teaching staff.

In a letter addressed to Professor Mqhele Dlodlo, the Vice Chancellor at NUST, NUSTEDA President Alois Muzvuwe said Nust teaching staff will not be able to report for duty from the 26th of February 2020 until they been capacitated to do so. Nusteda claims that this i not as strike and pleads with Dlodlo not to victimise or punish people who are genuinely failing to attend to their duties due to this incapacitation.

Over the years Zanu PF has starved education and health sectors of funds, it started with cutting funding to buy basic necessities such as books and medicines and to maintain building and equipment. And soon government started to eating into staff wages.

The quality of our education and health care have all suffered greatly. One rural MP has recently revealed that the best school result for grade 7, “O” level and “A” level in his constituency was a 3% pass rate.

Zimbabwe used to boast of having the highest literacy rate in Africa; not any more, not with a 3% pass rate!

Zimbabwe is a pariah state ruled by corrupt, incompetent and vote rigging thugs. As long as the country remains a pariah state there will be no meaningful economic recovery and basic services such as education and health will all but disappear.

The only way to end the rot is for the country to implement the democratic reforms necessary for free, fair and credible elections. Lecturers can complain about being incapacitated, that will change nothing.

Buckle’s comments are backed up by a coruscating news report: ‘Factories grind to a halt as Zimbabwe's economy implodes'. The article notes: Zisco's once-imposing steelworks are a series of derelict buildings, rusting pipes and sheets of corrugated iron. As the natural bush encroaches, the buildings are increasingly home to ever-opportunistic monkeys and baboons.’

It is tempting to feel sorry for the country and the people but one has to accept the tough reality that feeling sorry for ourselves will not get us out of this hell-on-earth of our own making. Zanu PF thugs were the chief architects of the nation’s mess still it was us, the people, who allowed these tyrants to do as they pleased. Of course, we did!

These is no doubt that in the 40 years of Zanu PF rule there were many, many golden opportunities for us to end the dictatorship, notable during the 2008 to 2013 GNU, and we have wasted them all. There were many opportunities to break out of jail just as there were many times we got “get out of jail cards” and we wasted them all!

If we want to rebuild Zimbabwe to its former glory and better then we must get off our backsides and chase away the monkeys and baboons! No one is going to do that for us!

  7. "It's a legal minefield in the sense that it has not been done before, but nothing can stop the application if they can prove that there is new evidence that was not available at the time the first application was made, or could have been reasonably made available at the time. I am sure the courts can look at that evidence and could change their initial judgment," Chitsa said.

Chamisa confirmed that his lawyers were looking at the matter and already taking action, although he preferred not to comment on what had already been done.

Insiders said apart from mounting a fresh ConCourt appeal, Chamisa and his team, with the help of Mpofu, were coming up with a dossier which would be part of a fresh diplomatic onslaught in the region, continent and West to pressure Mnangagwa to the negotiating table.

The bottomline is that Chamisa knew Zimbabwe’s electoral process was full of flaws and illegalities, was warned against participating, and yet he still went ahead. He knew ZEC had failed to produce something as basic as a verified voters’ roll and this was not the first time this had happened.

“MDC has stringent measures to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections!” boasted Chamisa just a few weeks before the elections.

This is just another time wasting gimmick by the MDC and the nation must ignore the party and focus on the job in hand.

Zimbabwe cannot afford another rigged elections in 2023 and the only sure way to avoid it is to make sure the democratic reforms are implemented before the elections. Since Zanu PF and MDC cannot be trusted to implement the reforms, they failed to get even one reform implemented in the 2008 to 2013 GNU, the nation must get an independent body to carryout this task. Zanu PF must be pressure to step down to create the political spare for this body.

  8. SA President Cyril Ramaphosa has led SADC from the front in endorsing Zimbabwe's July 2018 as having "gone well" and demanding the lifting of the sanctions - Zanu PF's excuse for Zimbabwe's economic meltdown. Ambassador Mbete did not even mention sanctions as the cause of Zimbabwe's economic failures but harmed home the real cause - bad governance. This is a serious and very significant departure by President Ramaphosa from his original position.

SA and SADC’s position on sanctions as the root cause of Zimbabwe’s economic problems was simply unsustainable given all the mountain of evidence pointing to bad governance as the cause. Zimbabwe’s worsening economic situation demanded solutions and not gimmicks and hence the reason for SA’s volte face!

Zanu PF apologists on the social media platforms have been candescent with anger at the Ambassador’s statement. The Ambassador told Zanu PF a few home truths and the party thugs know it is the truth and hence the reason they are furious - they cannot stomach the truth!

  9. Zimbabwe is committed to implementing political, economic and legislative reforms as part of efforts to escalate sustainable socio-economic development initiatives, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said.

Officially opening the sixth Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development in Victoria Falls on Tuesday, President Mnangagwa said through the engagement and reengagement agenda, Zimbabwe is determined to see through the IMF Staff Monitored Program which supports the reform process, which is being done without the requisite external financial support as is the norm.

If President Mnangagwa was not such a dimwit then he would know how foolish and hollow his repeated promises to implement political and economic reforms must sound. The reforms he is wittering about would not even be necessary if Zanu PF had not spend the last 40 years systematically destroying the country’s democratic institutions.

Even if one gave Mnangagwa the benefit of the doubt and blame Mugabe for all the rot that took place whilst Mugabe was in power. Mnangagwa has been in power for nearly two and half years now and still he has done nothing to dismantle the Zanu PF dictatorship. Nothing!

What is clear is that Zanu PF will never implement any democratic reforms to restore the individual freedoms and rights including the right to free, fair and credible elections. Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF cronies believe they have the right to rule Zimbabwe and they would rather see the country burnt to ashes than allow anyone else to rule it.

Zanu PF is holding the nation to ransom and that is the political reality we must deal with. We will never ever deal with this problem by pretending it does not exist and that Zanu PF will, given time (party has had 40 years already), implement the reforms and hold free, fair and credible elections.

  10. ZACC chairperson, Justice Loice Matanda-Moyo, has just publicly admitted that Zimbabwe has lost a staggering US$ 7 billion looted and used to buy property and cash outside the country. For a country a mere US$10 billion GDP there is no doubt that the US$ 7 billion siphoned out of the country represents serious and economically damaging haemorrhage.

It beggars belief how the regime still continues to blame sanctions for Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown and yet does not even acknowledge the problem of corruption even with the regime’s own ZACC coming up with such damning reports!
