"Hold me to account for my pledge!" says ED - good, you pledged to hold free elections W Mukori

The more I listens to President Emerson Mnangagwa the more I dislike the man. He is a corrupt, incompetent, vote rigging and murderous thugs who is out to con everyone that he has changed when he has not changed one bit!

There is no questioning that Robert Mugabe was a corrupt, incompetent, vote rigging and murderous dictator and his Zanu PF regime was, per se, ruthless de facto one-party dictatorship. The central question the world, even more significantly the people of Zimbabwe, have asked since last November’s coup is: Did the coup end the Zanu PF dictatorship or did it merely removed one dictator, Mugabe, only to replace him with a new dictator, Emerson Mnangagwa?

President Mnangagwa has answered this question himself again and again every time he has opened his mouth!

“Addressing supporters on his Facebook page, Mnangagwa said in a "new Zimbabwe", leaders must be open, transparent and accountable to the people unlike under the last Robert Mugabe regime,” reported Bulawayo 24.

"I invite everyone to keep hold of these pledge cards and hold me accountable for these pledges.

"Anyone found guilty of corruption will be immediately fired and punished accordingly; no one is above the law," he said.

He claims that “no one is above the law” and yet that is exactly what he is claiming for himself in his diktat! He wants the nation to hold him to account but only for whatever he has done after last November’s coup beyond that he wants “bygones to be bygones!”

President Mnangagwa was more than Robert Mugabe’s right-hand man, he is the man the tyrant entrusted with most of his dirtiest jobs of looting, vote rigging and politically motivated brutal repression. The very suggestion that only Robert Mugabe was responsible for all the gross mismanagement, rampant corruption and political thuggery of the last 37 years is a mockery of justice and an insult to the victims.

The law and justice are about historic events; no one is ever charged, much less, convicted of a crime based on a prophecy of an event yet to happen. President Mnangagwa is behaving like a stereotypical dictator whose whim is the law.

Indeed, President Mnangagwa is making a big song and dance about how in the “new Zimbabwe” everyone to, including himself, accountable and yet is dishing out invalid “pledge cards”! He has pledged to hold free, fair and credible elections and yet has flatly refused to implement even one democratic reform to guarantee free and fair elections.

President Mnangagwa and his junta are an illegitimate regime; there was no legally and constitutional justification for staging a military coup, not even to remove a dictator. President Mnangagwa had no choice but to promise, to pledge, holding free, fair and credible elections as an admission of the regime’s unconstitutional seizure of power and willingness to return to legitimacy a.s.a.p. This is the one promise, the Zanu PF junta must be held to account over if it failures to deliver.

  1. MDC-T president Mr Nelson Chamisa has appointed Dr Nkululeko Sibanda as his spokesperson, replacing Mr Luke Tamborinyoka who has been ditched after indicating his intention to contest the Goromonzi West seat in the forthcoming Parliamentary elections.

In a statement, Mr Chamisa also made eight other appointments with Mr Jameson Timba coming in as his presidential Chief Elections Agent and Zec liaison officer.

He appointed Ms Grace Kwinjeh as the party's representative to Brussels and European Union, Mr Driden Kunaka as the party's envoy to Australia while Ms Yvonne Mahlunge was appointed to represent the party in the United Kingdom.

Mr Chamisa appointed Mr Elliot-PFebve as the party's Business Trade Attaché to Europe, Ireland and the United Kingdom.

All the MDC leaders accept that Zanu PF is rigging these elections and still the continue to trip over each other to contest these flawed elections. All they are after is the few gravy train seats Zanu PF gives away. They do not care that those few seat come at a heavy price to the majority of the ordinary people who gain nothing from these rigged elections but instead pay dearly the consequences of another five years of Zanu PF corrupt and tyrannical rule.

Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF thugs got into power on the back of promising to end white colonial oppression and restore the freedoms and rights of the masses including the right to free and fair elections. The people have risked life and limb to elect the MDC leaders into power on the promise they would end Zanu PF oppression only for these opposition leaders to betray the masses too as soon as they got into power. The sooner povo realise these corrupt and incompetent MDC leaders are sleeping with the enemy and no longer care about the people's freedoms and human rights, the sooner they can ditch MDC leaders and once again take up the fight to end the evil of tyrannical rule. Only this time the people must be a lot smarter and introspective in the election of future leaders

Zimbabwe is suffering the ill effects of yesterday's liberators becoming today's oppressors and today's liberators becoming tomorrow's oppressors; a scourge that has afflicted many other nations in human history. The only way to cure it is for the ordinary people to pay attention to who they select as today's liberators and be vigilant to ensure the elected leaders remain accountable to the people at all times. Giving leaders a blank cheque, as we have done with Zanu PF and now with MDC leaders is the root cause of our economic and political troubles.
