MDC-T have forgotten "No reform, no election!" after night sleep like the baboon! By N Garikai

“We have suffered enough as youths and as Zimbabweans and we are now ready to map our future. We are not going to allow Zanu PF to rig the 2018 elections as we are going to protect our votes and defend them vigorously,” warned MDC-T youth leader, Happymore Chidziva.

MDC-T must have an echo-chamber in the Harvey House where the party’s hot-heads can get indoctrinated and brainwashed with the party’s unique idiosyncratic nonsense.

The party was warned that Zanu PF rigs elections and the solution is to implement the raft of democratic reforms designed to stop the vote rigging, the political violence and all the other election irregularities. Throughout the GNU, SADC leaders reminded Tsvangirai and his MDC friends to follow the 2008 GPA roadmap and implement the agreed reforms. MDC failed to get even one reform implemented in five years.

MDC took part in the 2013 elections confident the party will stop Zanu PF rigging the vote and go on to win the elections. Zanu PF went on to blatantly rig the vote and win the elections with a landslide victory!

Tsvangirai’s claim that Zanu PF “stole the elections” fell on deaf SADC leaders’ ears because they had warned him this would happened and he would not listen.

After the lesson of the rigged July 2013 elections, Tsvangirai and his MDC-T members vowed they will never again contest any elections until the reforms are implemented to stop Zanu PF rigging the vote! We should have never allowed Tsvangirai to sleep after that resolution because he forgot the vote rigging and the resolution; MDC is contesting the 2018 elections as if 2013 vote rigging never happen.
“We are now ready to defend our future. We cannot allow Zanu PF to do whatever it wants with us and in 2018 we are absolutely going to defend people from Zanu PF’s terror campaign,” promised the MDC-T youth leader.
“What (President Robert) Mugabe and his party did in the Bikita West by-election does not scare us, and we are warning them that this time around they must not press this violence button again. Enough is enough.”
Was MDC-T not ready to defend the vote and the people from Zanu PF abuse in 2013?

Yes! Yes! It is all very well MDC-T warning these Zanu PF thugs for the umpteenth time “not to press this violence button again”; what the nation wants to know is what MDC will do to stop these thugs pressing the bloody button?

The only thing MDC can do is to boycott elections they know will be rigged. The only reason MDC-T will not boycott the elections is they, like all the other politicians in the opposition camp cannot resist the bait Zanu PF is offering those who contest.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the elections,” explained Senator David Coltart in his book.

“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”

The Senator was commenting on why MDC leaders contested the 2013 elections but the same can be said about the 2018 elections.

We all know Zanu PF thugs will “push the violence button” again and again and many innocent Zimbabweans will suffer. MDC-T youths like Chidziva like Tsvangirai disappear in the Netherland Embassy or some such hide-out. We know the elections will be rigged and Tsvangirai will complain of “stolen elections” but a good night sleep will make him forget his “No reform, no election!” resolution and contest the next elections.

“Tsvangirai igudo rinokangamwa chezuro nehope!” (Tsvangirai is like the baboon that forget yesterday’s bad experience after a night’s sleep!) as the Shona would say. This is nothing like its favourite food to make the baboon forget the past mishaps; for Tsvangirai and his fellow opposition politicians lose their heads at the prospect of a gravity train seat!

The truth is Zimbabwe is in serious economic trouble, unemployment has been 80% plus for the past 15 years, millions now live in abject poverty and basic services such as education and health have all but collapsed. Millions have left the country in search of any job, just to survive. SA is threatening to send back 200 000 Zimbabweans end of the year, as if the country does not have enough problems!

The pressure on Zimbabwe to end the 37 years of Zanu PF misrule and start addressing the country’s underlying economic ills is now great; it is not just a matter of life and death but the stability of the nation is now at stake. Zimbabwe cannot afford yet another rigged election, period!

We must demand the implementation of the democratic reforms BEFORE an election. All promises by MDC-T to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections is just hot-air; they will do nothing to stop the rigging, as usual.

  1. The economy has halved in size since 2000, when militants backed by Mugabe seized white-owned farms, crippling agricultural output and exports. The government also deterred investment by enacting laws aimed at forcing some companies operating in the country to have majority black ownership and issuing conflicting messages on how they will be implemented.

The Zimbabwe government was being foolish when it decided to issue bond notes because there was never any doubt them not to hold their value against the US$. The regime has tried to help the bond notes hold their value by making sure they were not readily available but the meant people continuing to queue for cash at the bank. Even if the regime stop printing bond notes the continued haemorrhaging of foreign currency to pay for imports will increase pressure on US$ to rise compared to bond notes.

Bond notes experiment was doomed to end in tears whatever the regime tries to do!

  2. War veterans like Mahiya have completely failed to grasp the idea of good and competent government as the only guarantee of economic prosperity for us all. War veterans have foolishly propped up a corrupt and tyrannical regime, denying the ordinary people their freedom and basic rights, for selfish gain. Well the economic reward they expected from President Mugabe has not materialised and never will.

It is disheartening that instead of learning from their last mistake war veterans are off at a tangent again, this time supporting Mnangagwa, some Mujuru and others Tsvangirai! People like Mahiya did a good job fighting for independence but if the nation could turn back the clock this are some of the mercenaries one dreads letting them do anything for you because that is a debt impossible to pay back. The people of Zimbabwe have paid dearly for ruthless mercenaries like Hayiya, Mnangagwa, Mugabe, etc.!

  3. Joice Mujuru has fire the following from ZimPF with immediate effect.

    1. Rugare Enock Ngidi Gumbo
    2. Didymus N. E. Mutasa
    3. Margaret Dongo
    4. Kudakwashe Bhasikiti-Chuma
    5. Luckson Kandemiri
    6. Munacho Mutezo
    7. Cloudious Makova

There are more to follow, said the statement.

She is not call Teura Ropa (Spill Blood) for her good looks alone!

ZimPF is not even two years old and already it has started dividing like the amebae! Ah well, Gumbo and company are out in the cold again and can start another session of licking each other’s wounds!

Mugabe has managed to hold Zanu PF together for 34 years but only because he had the country’s wealth to dish out to his cronies. After giving away the land, he had nothing left to give away and Zanu PF started to fall apart like a sand-castle in the drying midday heat! Other like Tsvangirai and now Mujuru were not so lucky, they did not have anything to give away and so keeping their unruly opportunists in line have been impossible, the complete lack of any leadership qualities in all three has made the break up a certainty!

  4. No amount of jazzing up this opposition coalition project will change the reality on the ground - as long as Zanu PF have the license to rig the elections. The party will engineer ways to stop opposition supporters voting or force them to vote for Zanu PF whilst rolling out the red carpet to Zanu PF supporters to ensure they vote and even cast multiple votes - that is what voting rigging means!

Zimbabwe's opposition have known all along that Zanu PF has been rigging elections ever since they got into power soon after independence. Tsvangirai and his MDC friends Tendai Biti, Welshman Ncube, etc. had the best chance during the GNU to implement democratic reforms designed to stop Zanu PF rigging future elections. Sadly they failed to get even one reform implemented because Mugabe bribed them with the trappings of power and a $4 million Highlands mansion for Tsvangirai. They, in turn, kicked all reforms into the tall grass to please their benefactor, Mugabe.

SADC leaders tried their best to get the MDC leaders to implement the reforms but their advice fell on deaf ears.

MDC leaders took part in the 2013 elections with no reform in place only because they were after the few seats they knew Zanu PF would give away to encourage opposition parties to contest elections. It is for the same reason that MDC and everyone else in the opposition are set to contest next year's elections. They know the elections will be rigged, they are making a big song and dance about forming a coalition just to stop the people asking why contest an election you know is flawed!

So, Biti is going to join CODE tomorrow; big deal!

  5. The season of madness is early this time, usually the party members fight over seats and then after the elections when most of them have lost to Zanu PF the knives are out!

ZimPF are a new party with hardly enough members to fill all the available contested parliamentary, senatorial and local government posts.

Well the talk of opposition unity is a waste of time, I do not see Joice Mujuru and Rugare Gumbo kissing and making up some time soon; not after such a messy breakup. It is certainly messer than Tsvangirai vs Ncube, Tsvangirai vs Biti and Biti vs Mangoma!
